16 Arrests As Cops Dismantle Spanish Chapter Of Feared Latin Kings Gang
Police in Spain have seized members of an extremely violent chapter of the notorious Latin Kings street gang, including its leader.
The Spanish Civil Guard carried out its operation to dismantle the faction in the Madrid and Galicia regions last week.
Sixteen arrests were made, including of a minor and a woman. The chapter's leader, Eric Javier Velastegui, is among those detained.
The faction called itself the STAS (Sagrada Tribu [Sacred Tribe] American Spain).
Police say Velastegui was leading it from prison, where he has been serving a sentence for rape since the early 2000s.
The woman arrested is his partner, say police.
Officers also seized multiple large bladed weapons, firearms, cash, and other items in the raids.
The Civil Guard described the faction as "a perfectly organised group, with a clear purpose of committing crimes, and strict internal discipline".
Its members financed it through violent robberies, threats, and drug trafficking.
They reportedly recruited minors in schools in Galapagar, Madrid Region, and neighbouring municipalities.
Of the 16 arrested, 12 have been issued precautionary measures.
The Latin Kings gang - or Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation - is among the largest Hispanic and Latino street and prison gangs in the world.
It was founded by Puerto Ricans in Chicago, USA, in 1954 and its members are believed to number in the tens of thousands.
Its activities include drug trafficking, assault, burglary, homicide, identity theft, and money laundering.
The Spanish Civil Guard said in a statement: "Sixteen members of this criminal organisation, which carried out its criminal activity mainly in the Community of Madrid, and was based in the localities of Madrid and Galapagar, have been arrested.
"This chapter of the Latin Kings was part of a section called STAS (Sagrada Tribu American Spain), and included the most violent faction within this violent youth group.
"The chapter's leader, who was the founder of the Latin Kings in Spain in the early 2000s, led the organisation from prison, where he is serving a sentence for rape."

Police In Spain Recover Stolen Salvador Dali Pieces Worth EUR 300k
Police in Spain have returned two century-old charcoal drawings by renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dali to their rightful owners in Barcelona.
The artworks, worth around EUR 300,000 (GBP 266,000), were snatched from a flat in the upmarket Sarria-Sant Gervasi district in January last year.
The Mossos d'Esquadra - the Catalan police force - has now revealed that the drawings showing Catalan peasants and folk dances have been recovered.
In a series of related raids, they also seized five prints believed to be by Catalan painter Joan Miro.
They also recovered 55 watches, antique coins and banknotes, four long guns, and several other stolen items.
The raids were carried out in Granollers, Les Franqueses del Valles, and Berga, with police seizing three men aged 50, 53, and 55 in May last year.
Two others were also arrested for receiving stolen goods.
Police have linked the men to seven burglaries in upmarket areas across Barcelona Province.
They are currently released on bail and must abide by precautionary measures, while the two who allegedly received the stolen goods have been freed without charge.
Experts have since said the drawings were made by an 18-year-old Dali in 1922.
They were made, the experts said, to illustrate a book called 'Les Gracies de l'Emporda' (The Charms of the Emporda).
The Emporda is a natural and historical region of Catalonia where Dali himself hailed from.
Dali's notable works include 'The Persistence of Memory', which is famous for its 'melting clocks'.

Moment Cops And Police Dog Take Down Gang Of Armed Robbers Who Shot At Them
This is the moment police officers and a K9 arrest four members of a gang of armed robbers who opened fire on them.
The footage shows the cops and police dog pursuing the suspects after they fled in Oklahoma City, in the US state of Oklahoma, and arresting four of them. A fifth suspect managed to evade arrest.
The police had located a stolen vehicle they say was used in an armed robbery where the victims were held at gunpoint.
The vehicle was located in a residential area and contained five people with at least three guns, the police said.
The footage shows the five suspects attempting to flee after the police pulled up next to the vehicle.
Four can be seen immediately getting out of the car and running while a fifth suspect appears to wait a moment before getting out and running in the opposite direction.
The police said that they saw that several of the suspects were armed with guns and that they fired less-lethal rounds at the suspects.
One suspect can be seen lying on the ground with his hands spread, with the images then showing a second suspect being taken down by a police dog.
The police then said that a third suspect then fired his gun at one of the police officers, who returned fire but did not hit him.
The third suspect and a fourth robber then reportedly continued to flee over garden fences to a nearby creek.
The two suspects can then be seen lying face down in the shallow waters of the creek as they are arrested by the police officers.
One police officer can then be seen asking a colleague to pick up three firearms the suspects had allegedly thrown on the ground.
The police said that a fifth suspect was not apprehended at that time.
Newsflash also obtained a written statement from the Oklahoma City Police Department dated Thursday, 16th February, saying that the incident took place on 24th January.
The statement also said that the incident began after the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) "located a stolen vehicle related to an armed robbery. When officers arrived, five individuals fled from the vehicle.
"Several of the suspects were armed with guns. In pursuit of the suspects, one officer fired a less-lethal launcher.
"While pursuing a suspect, Sergeant Ronnie Waugh saw the suspect point what appeared to be a gun at him. Sergeant Waugh discharged his firearm at the suspect. The suspect was not struck by any bullets and continued to flee.
"Four of the five suspects were apprehended and three guns were recovered.
"Sergeant Waugh was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation."
The investigation is ongoing. It was unclear at the time of writing if the fifth suspect had been apprehended.

10-Month Jail Sentence And Four-Year Driving Ban For Man Who Led Police On Wild Chase
A man has been jailed for 10 months and banned from driving for four years after he led police on a wild chase in Wiltshire.
Darren Reed, 52, of Kingshill Road, Swindon, was sentenced at the Swindon Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, possession of an offensive weapon and a class A drug, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and without insurance.
Dashcam footage obtained by Newsflash from the Wiltshire Police shows Reed attempting to ditch the officers as he incited a dangerous police chase during morning rush hour across the town of Royal Wootton Bassett.
Wiltshire Police released footage of the incident on 13th February, a few days after Reed was given his prison sentence for the incident, which occurred on 9th November, 2021.
It all began at approximately 8.40am when an officer on duty spotted a BMW being driven on false number plates.
The officer attempted to pull over the driver on the A3102, but the vehicle made off at speed, ignoring multiple road signs and driving the wrong way around a roundabout.
Reed continued driving recklessly around town, forcing other motorists to evade his vehicle to avoid a car crash.
He was eventually lost to sight and the BMW was found dumped in Southbank Glen with a different number plate on.
A police dog handler attended the scene and the dog located the sunglasses Reed had been wearing and the ignition key near to the vehicle.
He was later arrested in Longleaze and taken into custody.
Inspector Will Ayres said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "Dash cam footage shows just how little regard Reed had for other road users.
"The incident happened during morning rush hour – as you can see the roads were busy with people making their way to work or taking children to school or nursery.
"However, this didn’t stop Reed from driving in an incredibly dangerous manner around the town before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to make off and evade police.
"Thankfully, he has now been given a lengthy disqualification from the roads, and a prison sentence.
"Hopefully this time is spent reflecting on his actions and just how incredibly lucky it was that nobody was injured, or worse killed, as a result of his mindless driving that day."

Moment Stolen Car Driver Is Taken Down By Police K9 Dog Jax
These images show a police K9 dog called Jax taking down the driver of a stolen vehicle in Florida.
The footage begins by showing the police tracking the vehicle in Marion County in the US state of Florida before the camera switches to the police dog handler and his trusty companion Jax.
Jax can be seen leading the way and searching for the suspect in a back garden before the suspect is located.
He tries to flee with Jax chasing after him and taking him down.
The police officer catches up with the dog and the suspect a few moments later and tells the suspect to "get off my dog!"
The 26-year-old suspect is then handcuffed and taken into custody.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Marion County Sheriff's Office dated 14th February, saying: "On February 12, 2023, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) received a report that a 2018 white Toyota Tundra had been stolen from Public Storage, located at 9275 S. Highway 441, in Ocala.
"Deputies responded to the area of Southeast 162nd Place Road, in Summerfield, based on information that the vehicle was nearby. While searching for the vehicle, Deputy Chad Haufler located a white Toyota Tundra on Southeast 49th Lane.
"As he confirmed that this was the stolen vehicle, the driver, Skylar Adkins, drove away at a high rate of speed."
The statement also said: "Adkins fled from deputies for several miles until deputies lost sight of the stolen vehicle. A short while later, additional information was received that Adkins drove to the 15000 block of SE 93rd Court, where he was observed by Lieutenant Donnie Medlin. K9 Corporal Calvin Batts and his partner, K9 Jax, responded to assist with the search for Adkins."
The police said that the suspect was apprehended by the K9 unit, of the statement saying: "While running from deputies, Adkins entered a home and asked the occupants to hide him from law enforcement.
"The homeowners refused and demanded that he leave. After Adkins left the residence, K9 Corporal Batts located him in between two fences, at which time Adkins continued to flee on foot. K9 Jax was released and apprehended Adkins a short distance away. Adkins was then placed under arrest.
"Adkins was charged with Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Grand Theft (of Property valued at USD 10,000 or more but less than USD 20,000), Burglary of a Conveyance, Driving with a Suspended License, Resisting an Officer without Violence, Trespassing in an Occupied Structure, and five (5) counts of Violation of Probation.
"Adkins also had active warrants for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary of a Conveyance, and Burglary of a Dwelling. He was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains held without bond."
The case is ongoing.

Two Dead In Mountain Peak Crash
A four-year-old boy has been left with his mother dead and his father injured after their helicopter slammed into a mountain peak.
The couple had been on a pleasure trip around Russia's Far East when the Robinson R44 they were on board inexplicably hit a rocky outcrop.
Russia's Emergencies Ministry told local media that the chopper had "hit a cliff and then descended abruptly".
The chopper crash-landed on Chekhov Peak on Sakhalin island on 17th February, killing pilot Dmitry P. and photographer Daria Martynenko, 34, instantly.
Her husband - 39-year-old Andrey Martynenko - was pulled alive from the wreckage by rescuers.
At the time of reporting, he remained in hospital in a "moderate" condition and was due to undergo surgery for a neck injury.
The helicopter had taken off from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk at 3.05pm but vanished from the radar at 4.02pm.
A short while later, a distress signal was received via satellite.
Investigators have since seized samples from the wreckage for analysis.
At the time of reporting, they were considering two lines of investigation - that of pilot error and that of a technical malfunction.
Local media reported that the couple had gone on holiday to the island of Sakhalin to celebrate Daria's birthday on 15th February.
The two were keen travellers and loved going on trips around Russia, particularly hiking trips in the mountains.
They had gone to Sakhalin with their four-year-old son, who did not join them for the ill-fated helicopter trip and remained in the hotel with a babysitter.
He is currently being looked after by a psychologist, local media reported.
The Far East Transport Prosecutor's Office has said that it will press charges if it finds evidence of non-compliance with flight safety legislation.
In a statement, it said: "On 17th February 2023, communication with a Robinson R44 helicopter belonging to an entrepreneur, following the route Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk - Chekhov Peak - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, was interrupted.
"According to preliminary data, a destroyed aircraft hull was discovered during the search and rescue operation.
"The Sakhalin Transport Prosecutor's Office is checking compliance with the requirements of the flight safety legislation.
"Based on its results, if there are grounds, exhaustive prosecutorial response measures will be taken."

Astronomers Hail Priceless Find Of Uncontaminated Meteorite That Landed On Balcony
Astronomers scouring the countryside in southern Italy after reports that an asteroid was big enough to hit the Earth were amazed when they got a call from two brothers after it landed on their balcony.
The meteorite was filmed by numerous people as it was seen burning through the sky at about 190 mph in the Puglia and Basilicata Regions.
Because it was spotted on 14th February, it is becoming known as “Valentine’s fireball”, and scientists hope to find the remains after working out that it was heavy enough to strike the Earth.
However, searches in the countryside were in vain, because it had actually hit the balcony of a house in Matera, a city in the region of Basilicata, in Southern Italy.
Also known as the stone city, because of the local cave dwellings carved into the stone, the property belongs to the parents of Gianfranco and Pino Lossignore, who had not realised what had happened because only their elderly mother was home at the time.
The unnamed woman reportedly admitted she heard a loud bang, but had not thought anything of it because of a storm going on outside at the time.
Gianfranco confirmed he had not been around at the time and that his mother was in the basement, where she heard a loud bang.
He said: "yes she was worried but because of the strong winds she just thought it was a tree branch. We would never have expected that it was a meteorite."
However, when the brothers went to check the solar panels, which were not working properly, they discovered they had been damaged by the stones, and then when they heard about the alert, they called the astrologers.
Scientists from the Italian Organisation for the Study of Meteors and Atmosphere (PRSMA) and the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) who rushed to the scene confirmed that it had struck the house.
A statement obtained by Newsflash from Prisma added that they have so far recovered 12 larger fragments weighing around 70 grammes and several smaller fragments.
Daniele Gardiol, INAF astronomer of Turin and national coordinator of the Prisma network, said: "The discovery took place just three days after the fall. That means it is very fresh and uncontaminated material because it had not landed in water or soil.
"Meteorites have gone through the 4.5 billion years since the formation of our Solar System almost unchanged, and finding one that has just fallen like the one found in Matera helps scientists a lot to reconstruct the stages that led to the formation of planets, including the Earth."
He added that in this case it was almost as if it had fallen from space because it had landed on the balcony and remained pure.
He said that although meteorites were often being found since 1959 when more data had been recorded, there had only been around 40 finds worldwide where the discoveries were fresh and uncontaminated.
He added that in Italy, it was also only the second time, after an early discovery of the Cavezzo meteorite found near Modena in January 2020.
The fragments of now-found meteorite have been handed over to PRISMA, run by the Italian institute of astrophysics.
The level mayor Domenico Bernardi said there was a lot of excitement about the discovery.
He said: "The meteorites will be named after the two brothers. Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world and has often been the site of exciting discoveries."

Brave Cop Busts Window Of Burning Home And Rescued Elderly Lady Trapped Inside
Cops from the USA have been praised by social media users after they broke through a window of a burning house and saved an elderly woman trapped inside.
Bodycam footage released by the Conyers Police Department, in Georgia State, USA, shows officers responding to a house fire call on Sunday morning, 11th February 2023.
But when officers Smith, Samuels, and Wright saw heavy smoke coming from the home and noticed a person trying to get their attention from a window, they immediately rushed to her aid.
When officer Smith realised that the only way to gain access to the person was to break the window, he yelled: "Back up! Back up!"
The video then shows Smith smashing the window and tearing out the blinds and asking: "Can you hear me?"
He then turned towards his colleagues and demanded: "Hey somebody give me a light over here!"
Thinking the person inside was a man, he said: "Where are you at? Where are you at, sir? Can you give me your hand?
"Give me your hand sir, reach out!"
But when he realised that the person inside was barely responsive, he decided to climb inside the smoke-filled room and take her out.
He then said: "Somebody come up to this window and stand by me."
Just seconds later the officer jumped inside and successfully brought the elderly resident to safety, as he carried her to the window and passed her through to officers outside.
Conveys Police Department said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "Every day Conyers Police Officers come to work to serve those that live and travel through our community.
"Officers never know when the next call will come or what that call will be but they are always prepared.
"Great work by all those involved with this rescue!"
The woman was reportedly treated at a hospital for smoke inhalations but has been released in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the officers received a great amount of praise after the Conyers Police Department posted the video on their Facebook page on Wednesday, 15th February.
Facebook user Lisa Nanette Allender said: "My goodness! Thank you to all of you for saving this life! We are grateful for you!"
User Patti Elrod Healy commented: "Thank you all for your brave service to our community!!"
Then another user, Eleanor Walker, added: "Great job Officer Smith. And the rest of the squad."

Boy, 3, Accidentally Shoots Himself After Finding Loaded Gun In Parents' Nightstand In Florida
A three-year-old boy has shot himself dead after finding a loaded gun in his parents' nightstand in Florida.
The incident took place in the city of DeLand, in Volusia County, in the US state of Florida, some 40 miles from Orlando, on Wednesday evening, 15th February.
The child's parents, who have not been named, were out grocery shopping at the time of the incident, with the three-year-old and his seven-year-old sibling being watched by their 16-year-old sister.
None of the family members have been named because one of the parents is a state corrections officer.
Police responding to the scene reportedly found that one gun had been in the nightstand and another was on top of the fridge. It later transpired that the locking mechanism on the parents' gun safe had stopped working.
The footage shows Sheriff Mike Chitwood during a press briefing about the fatal incident.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Volusia Sheriff's Office on Thursday, 16th February, saying: "Sheriff Mike Chitwood provided a media briefing on last night's tragic death of a 3-year-old boy who shot himself with a handgun found in his parents' bedroom.
"Deputies responded to a pair of frantic 911 calls around 6.22pm Wednesday reporting the shooting at a home on Nectarine Road in the Daytona Park Estates neighborhood of DeLand.
"The first deputy arrived on scene at 6:29 p.m. and attempted life-saving measures. Sadly the boy's injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the nearest hospital at 7:03 p.m.
"The initial investigation indicates the 3-year-old was home with his 16-year-old sister and 7-year-old brother while their parents were at Publix [supermarket].
"The 3-year-old went into the parents' bedroom and was able to remove a handgun from his father's nightstand. He discharged the firearm once resulting in the fatal injury.
"The father is a Florida state corrections officer who indicated his firearms were normally kept in a safe in the bedroom. The safe's electronic lock function had stopped working, and the firearms were instead placed (1) on top of the refrigerator in the kitchen, and (2) in his nightstand.
"At this morning's briefing, Sheriff Chitwood stated that the case will be fully investigated and submitted to the State Attorney's Office for review."
The sheriff said: "I cannot imagine there's anything in the law books that can punish that family more than what happened last night."
The statement continued: "Florida law (FSS 784.05) states that following the accidental shooting of a child, 'no arrest shall be made prior to 7 days after the date of the shooting. With respect to any parent or guardian of any deceased minor, the investigating officers shall file all findings and evidence with the state attorney's office with respect to violations of this subsection. The state attorney shall evaluate such evidence and shall take such action as he or she deems appropriate under the circumstances and may file an information against the appropriate parties.'
"The state Department of Children and Families responded to the scene and is continuing to dedicate resources and supervision to the family. The first responders involved will also be receiving services in light of the trauma of the incident.
"Asked what he would say to other families about storage of firearms at home, Sheriff Chitwood responded: 'I would like them to listen to that 911 call. I would like to have them hear the 16-year-old say, 'My brother shot himself and he's not breathing.' I think if you heard that, you would run out right now, and buy a gun safe.'"
The investigation is ongoing.

Illegal Hunters Arrested After Killing Two Roe Deer A Month After End Of Hunting Season
Russian cops have arrested two illegal hunters who shot two roe deer dead outside of hunting season and loaded them in the truck of their car.
Traffic police reportedly found the poor animals when they pulled a vehicle on Lenin Street, in the village of Yershichi, Smolensk Oblast, Russia, in February.
The two men, a driver, aged 49, and his pal in the passenger seat, aged 48, were reportedly heading back to the city of Moscow with the prey they caught over a month after the end of the season.
Police revealed that the deer's carcasses were placed in the trunk, where they reportedly also found a hunting carbine, a pair of night vision rifle scopes, a thermal imaging device and a knife.
Both the driver and the passenger, who have not been named, were arrested and escorted to the police station.
When questioned, both revealed that they went to the forest with their registered weapons and shot the deer, despite the hunting season having ended on Friday, 10th January.
Experts estimated the material damage to around RUB 260,000 (GBP 2,904).
The public prosecutor filed for a criminal investigation against the two men for illegal hunting, according to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
If found guilty, they face up to five years in jail.

Woman Shaman Seized Over Mind-Bending Rituals
A self-styled shaman who held mind-bending rituals with psychoactive drugs and hallucinogenic frogs has been seized by police.
The woman - seen in the footage wearing a feathered headdress in front of an altar - advertised her druggy ceremonies on social media networks.
Spanish national police raided her home in San Bartolome de Tirajana, in the Canary Islands, in Spain, as part of a crackdown on ritualist drug taking called Operation Ruchka on 15th February.
Footage of the raid, obtained from the Spanish police, shows officers searching the property for illegal substances in front of the shocked shamed and her clients who were about to start a ritual.
Police with sniffer dogs found hallucinogenics like bufo toad and kambo frog, said to be 40 times more powerful than morphine, according to local media.
They also found psychoactive ayahuasca tea known as 'little death' and once taken by Prince Harry.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Spanish National Police on Wednesday, 15 February, saying: "The National Police detains a person who organised neo-shamanic rituals with the consumption of prohibited and dangerous psychoactive substances.
"The detainee advertised through social networks and websites the celebration of these rituals in which the consumption of different psychoactive substances was offered, such as ayahuasca, bufo toad, kambo frog and San Pedro cactus."
The police said that after getting tip-offs over the rituals they opened an investigation into the shaman.
They explained: "National Police agents have arrested a woman in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana (Gran Canaria) who organised neo-shamanic rituals where prohibited and dangerous psychoactive substances were supplied.
"The arrested woman is charged as allegedly responsible for crimes against public health and professional intrusion.
"The organiser publicised these rituals through social networks and websites, as well as the psychoactive substances that were provided, such as ayahuasca, bufo toad, kambo frog, San Pedro cactus and other similar ones.
"During the development of the investigation, it has been possible to verify that minors participated in these rituals on some occasions.
"In the search carried out on the occasion of the police operation in which this woman was arrested, numerous containers with various kinds of substances, utensils used for their consumption and dosage, and a large number of elements and beads habitually used by native shamans of the Amazon basin during the celebration of this kind of rituals were seized."
The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Marine Patrol Unit Rescues Five Boaters Stranded At Sea
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit jumped into action after receiving a radio call from a boat operator roughly three miles east of the Hillsboro Inlet, off-coast Florida, USA.
The distress call reportedly came in around 10am on 7th January, but footage of the drama was released by the Broward Sheriff's Office on 13th February.
The boater reportedly stated that the vessel was taking on water and was located a few miles offshore near the Hillsboro Inlet.
The information was passed to a number of entities, who then joined the quest.
While they were on their way, dispatch informed the two-person unit of a 911 hang-up received by the contact centre from a boater in difficulty.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the call records provided latitude and longitude data, which Deputy Rocha translated to degrees and decimal minutes using a GPS coordinates converter software.
The fresh information showed that the stranded boats were farther out than predicted.
Deputies from the Marine Patrol Unit acted quickly, notifying the US Coast Guard and making contact with the five individuals.
The footage, which was obtained by Newsflash, shows the boaters holding onto a floating raft as they were being carried by the waves and awaiting rescue.
They were escorted one by one into the Marine Patrol Unit boat and given life jackets and water.
Deputies also investigated if any of the men required medical assistance.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue was called to the dock but had to cancel due to the rescued boaters' request.
The rescued men expressed their thanks to the deputies on board.
They stated that they did not believe they would have survived if the deputies had not discovered them when they did.

Satellites Are Saving Lives In Battle Against Chile's Wildfires
Satellites are saving lives in Chile where wildfires caused by record-hot weather are breaking out in the Southern Hemisphere.
Summer temperatures in the Southern Hemisphere of more than 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) are affecting attempts to combat a massive wildfire outbreak involving at least 231 distinct flames in central Chile.
At least 26 people have been killed, 1,182 have been wounded, 1,100 dwellings have been demolished, and three regions have declared a state of emergency.
These wildfires are burning in three sparsely inhabited central districts - Araucana, Biobo, and Nuble - which are home to many grape, apple, and berry farms, as well as large areas of forest land.
The Nuble area has maintained a preventative early warning system owing to the possibility of forest fires caused by high temperatures since 30th January.
The flames are occurring in the midst of a 13-year-long drought and an extraordinary heat wave in the country's south.
The wildfires have already made 2023 the second worst year in terms of hectares burned, following the so-called "firestorm" that ravaged the nation in 2017.
Twenty-eight of the hundreds of fires have burnt the amount of forest and woodland that the country normally loses in a year.
Temperature forecasts from Santiago to the southern areas have sparked worries about the existing 81 active flames.
Authorities have warned that continued hot and dry weather might aggravate what are already the worst fires in the country's recent history.
Carolina Toha, Chile's interior minister, claimed 76 new flames erupted on 3rd February alone, and that record temperatures were making it impossible to contain the blazes.
"The temperature has reached levels we've never known before," Toha remarked on Saturday.
She also urged that the flames act as a wake-up call to the consequences of the climate disaster. "Chile is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, and this is based on genuine experience, not theory."
In a dynamic fire environment, NOAA's geostationary satellites offer immediate and potentially life-saving information.
Fires are regularly detected by GOES-16 and GOES-18 before they are seen on the ground, which is especially crucial in isolated places.
The satellites also detect fires in real-time, identify and track smoke, and assist in determining the magnitude and temperature of a fire.
The NOAA-20 and Suomi NPP polar satellites of the Joint Polar Satellite System serve a significant role in identifying and tracking wildfires, particularly in remote areas.
Their high spatial resolution imager identifies smaller, lower-temperature flames and also detects fires at night.
These satellites' data is also crucial for smoke models used by fire departments, first responders, and air traffic controllers.

TURKEY EARTHQUAKE: Incredible Phone Call Of Man Unearthed After 261 Hours Buried Alive
A man pulled alive from rubble 261 hours after the Turkey earthquake astonished recscuers by chatting on the phone as he was carried to safety.
Survivor Mustafa Avci had just been pulled from the wreckage of a hospital that had collapsed on top of him in the devastating double quake.
But this incredible footage shows him wrapped in a thermal blanket and wearing a neck brace as he chats excitedly on a mobile phone to his relative Kadir.
With heart monitor sensors stuck to his chest, Mustafa looks astonishingly healthy as a rescuer holds the phone for him.
Mustafa, 34, is heard asking his relative about their other family members. Kadir then assures him they are all safe and sound.
Mustafa asks: "Is everyone rescued? Nazli?" Kadir then replies: "They are all fine, they are all fine. They are waiting for you."
Heart-warmingly, Mustafa kisses the hand of the rescuer holding the phone and says: "May God bless you a thousand times, brother! May God always help you in need!"
Search and rescue workers also pulled 26-year-old Mehmet Ali Sakiroglu from the collapsed health facility in Antakya, Hatay Province, on 16th February.
Both survivors were given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
Mehmet's son Aziz Yusuf, his wife Necla, and his father Mustafa Boyraz had been visiting him when the quake struck.
All three were pulled alive from the rubble before Mehmet himself was found.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the district of Pazarcik in Kahramanmaras Province at 4.17am on 6th February. It was felt in nine more Turkish provinces.
Later that day, at 1.24pm, a 7.6-magnitude quake hit the district of Elbistan in Kahramanmaras Province and was followed by 4,323 aftershocks.
As per the latest update by the Disaster And Emergency Management Presidency, 38,044 have died and more than 108,068 are injured in Turkey.
Along with more than 5,814 casualties in Syria, 43,858 people are confirmed dead.

Military Tests Robodog Soldiers Can Command By Thought
Military commanders in Australia are testing astonishing new technology that allows soldiers to simply think telepathic commands to robot dogs.
Previous generations of robotic dogs relied on operators with video game-style hand controllers or pre-programmed commands.
Now - say scientists - a new brain interface allows their handlers to issue commands just by thinking them.
At the same time, images and other data gathered by the robot can be sent back to the soldier's virtual headset.
In this video, Sergeant Damian Robinson, from 5th Combat Service Support Battalion, and Sergeant Chandan Rana, from 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers are seen putting the new tech through its paces.
Before a group of invited experts, they can be seen using only thought to move a robodog around a series of courses Majura Training Area, Canberra, on 11th May.
Video footage shows officers marching down the road in formation with the robot dog ahead of them and then working on a makeshift battlefield linked telepathically to its operator.
The robot can be seen going over difficult terrain, and also performing in rain and mud.
Later in the video, the robodog can be seen working with a search squad as they check out a series of containers.
During testing, several white squares corresponding to waypoints flickered on Sergeant Robinson’s augmented reality lens at varying frequencies.
The commands from Sgt Robinson were passed on from a biosensor at the back of his head to detect brainwaves from his visual cortex.
When concentrated on a particular flicker, the biosensor detected the change in brainwaves and signalled an amplification circuit.
An artificial intelligence decoder then translated the signal into commands, which the robodog followed.
The HoloLens technology has been developed by University of Technology Sydney (UTS) researchers to command a Ghost Robotics quadruped robot.
Sgt Robinson explained: “The whole process is not difficult to master. It’s very intuitive. It only took a couple of sessions.
“You don’t have to think anything specific to operate the robot, but you do need to focus on that flicker."
“It’s more of a visual concentration thing.”
The purpose of the demonstration was to get soldiers thinking about how Army might integrate this technology into the tactical environment.
Researchers at UTS and the army’s Robotic and Autonomous Implementation and Coordination Office (RICO) have worked together for nearly three years to develop brain-computer interfaces.
Professor Chin-Teng Lin and Professor Francesca Iacopi, from UTS, have made key breakthroughs in technology.
Professor Lin figured out how to minimise noise from the body and environment to get a clearer signal from an operator’s brain.
Another advance was increasing the number of commands the decoder can deliver in a fixed period.
Professor Lin said: “We have nine different kinds of commands and the operator can select one from those nine within that time period.”
Professor Iacopi developed a new graphene-based biosens to improve brainwave detection.
He said: “We’ve been able to combine the best of graphene, which is very biocompatible and very conductive, with the best of silicon technology, which makes our biosensor very resilient and robust to use."
Military chiefs have provided USD 1.2 million in research funding to UTS to support robodog development.

Fleeing Drug Dealer Tosses Cocaine Parcel And Tackles Officer
This is the moment a cocaine-carrying suspect attacks police officers after ditching the drugs and attempting to escape.
He was reportedly carrying a package of cocaine worth GBP 12,300 then he threw onto a roof as he fled.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Support Team were on routine patrol in the Lincoln Road area of Millfield when they came across a red Audi A3 causing an obstruction, on the 2nd September, 2021.
But body-worn footage of the incident that was obtained by Newsflash was just released by the Cambridgeshire Police on 15th February, 2023.
It reportedly began as one officer was speaking to Soran Abdullah, 34, who had parked his car on double yellow lines and obstructing traffic.
As the two talked, the officer reportedly noticed what seemed to cling film wraps of narcotics in the footwell.
That was when the passenger, Shaxawan Beker, 26, rushed towards Lincoln Road and was pursued by another officer.
The officer yelled out at Beker, asking him to stop running and informed him he had a Taser.
Beker was spotted throwing a package, subsequently proven to contain up to GBR 12,300 of cocaine, into the front lawn of a neighbouring house before the police apprehended him.
The Cambridgeshire Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "The pair struggled with each other and despite the officer using his Pava – an incapacitant spray – Beker repeatedly punched the officer in the face and attempted to grab hold of his Taser but was unsuccessful so grabbed the Pava and sprayed it directly in the officer’s eyes."
Other officers arrived to apprehend Beker and assist the police officer who had been attacked by him, as well as to collect the item he had thrown nearby.
Beker, of Essendyke, Bretton, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after previously admitting possession with intent to supply cocaine, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of an offensive weapon (the officer's CS spray), and possession of cannabis at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, 10th February, 2023.
Abdullah, of Robert Rayner Close, Orton Longueville, was given a two-year conditional discharge and had to pay GBR 1,000 in costs after admitting to two offences of cocaine possession and obtaining illicit property, particularly a significant amount of cigarettes on which tax had not been paid.
Detective Constable Gordon Logan, who investigated, said: “Beker knew he was in trouble as he had a substantial amount of class A drugs on him, and it was clear he wanted to do anything he could to avoid arrest.
“Thankfully, the officer did not sustain any serious injuries, however, this was an incredibly frightening incident.
“As police officers, we accept there is an increased level of risk each day we come into work – it is our duty to protect the public from people like Beker.
"However, it is not acceptable to be assaulted in the line of duty.
“The incident drew a large crowd and while many people stood and filmed, there were a few people who came to the officers’ aid and helped – I would like to thank those people for the compassion they showed and assistance.”

Car Theft Gang That Stole Top-End Motors From Canada Busted In Malta
Police have smashed a massive fraud ring in Malta targeting Canadian cars worth more than GBP 6 millions in the last two years.
As part of Project Majestic, the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit seized 64 automobiles worth USD 3.5 million (GBP 2.9 million) in the Republic of Malta in southern Europe and returned them to Canada.
Investigators determined the whereabouts of the stolen automobiles, which were inside shipping containers, ready to be sold illegally, in collaboration with the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA), the Malta Port Authority, and the Customs and Equite Association.
Members of the Auto Cargo Theft Unit began working on Project Majestic in early 2021, in partnership with the Toronto Police Auto Theft Suppression Project, the Peel Regional Police Commercial Auto Crime Unit, and the Peel Regional Police Criminal Investigations Bureaus.
Investigators have discovered a criminal ring responsible for stealing high-end automobiles from home driveways around the Greater Toronto Area, including Lexus, Toyota, and Honda sport utility vehicles.
The suspects got into the cars and reprogrammed the ignition systems, allowing them to drive away with a new key.
The automobiles were either driven directly to the Port of Montreal or placed into shipping containers in Toronto and sent by rail to Montreal.
The containers were then loaded onto ships and sent to customers in Africa and the UAE.
More than 70 stolen automobiles were taken between March 2021 and December 2022, with a total value of more than USD 4.5 million (GBP 3.7 million), in addition to the recently recovered vehicles in Malta, bringing the total number of recovered vehicles to more than 130, with a total value of USD 8 million (GBP 6.6 million).
Eighteen persons have been charged with over 170 crimes, including conspiracy, trafficking in stolen property, and theft of a motor vehicle.
