Deputy Injured in Accident, Flown From Scene, LIVINGSTON, May 13, 2023 - At approximately 11:30 pm on May 12, 2023, Deputy Caleb Boyer with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was west-bound on US-190 West. Boyer was responding to an urgent call near Onalaska. Deputy Boyer came up behind a trailer (pulled by pickup) that possibly had no lights and nearly struck it. Boyer cut right to avoid a collision. His patrol unit left the pavement to the right, jumped a culvert, landed and rolled. During the rollover, Boyer was ejected around fifty feet from his vehicle that came to rest upside down next to Pueblo Viejo Restaurant. During the ejection, Boyer landed in the grass (front lawn area of Pueblo Viejo). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Trooper Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol, and other Polk County Deputies, Constables, and Officers with Livingston Police Department. An Air Life medical helicopter landed in the middle of 190 West. Deputy Boyer was flown to Kingwood Hospital. Sheriff Byron Lyons led his men in prayer for Deputy Boyer. The totaled patrol unit was recovered by Ken's Towing. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

LIBERTY COUNTY PURSUIT ENDS NORTH OF LIVINGSTON, OAKDALE LOOP TEXAS, 05/12/23...
Pursuit from Liberty County ends North of Livingston, OAKDALE LOOP, May 12, 2023 - Shortly before 4 pm on May 12, 2023, Deputies from Liberty County attempted to stop a car and a high speed pursuit ensued. The pursuit made its way up US-59 North. The Deputies allegedly lost site of the suspect vehicle around Shepherd. Polk County was notified. Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle in the vicinity of Goodrich. The driver refused to stop and the pursuit continued north of 59 at 110 miles per hour. With other law enforcement joining in to stop the silver Ford Focus, the chase passed through Livingston on the 59 bypass. Detective Byron Dunaway with the Polk County Sheriff's Office successfully spiked the front driver's side tire, but the vehicle didn't stop. After all the rubber came off, and the driver was on the bare rim, he finally stopped near Oakdale Loop. The driver, 35 year old Jacob McCreary, of Lufkin was taken into custody without further incident. McCreary is likely facing a list of charges in Polk and Liberty Counties. Additionally, McCreary had an open, half empty bottle of vodka in his center console.

Driver Passes Out, Rolls Pickup, OAKDALE LOOP, May 12, 2023 - At approximately 1:25 pm on May 12, 2023, a 2013 maroon Chevy pickup, driven by Sandra Chaplin, 76, of Livingston, was east-bound on Oakdale when she allegedly passed out at the wheel. Chaplin's vehilce left the pavement to the left and turned over. Chaplin's vehicle came to rest on its passenger's side. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Corporal Ramey Bass and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. Chaplin was pinned in here vehicle. Firemen cut out the windshield of her pickup and were able to safely get Chaplin out of her vehicle. Chaplin was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Chaplin's vehicle was recovered by Country Boy Towing out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Driver Rolls Vehicle, 1 Hospitalized, BOLD SPRINGS, May 10, 2023 - At approxmately 7:35 am on May 10, 2023, a black 2003 Chevy Suburban was north-bound on FM-350 North when when the driver left the pavement to the left and rolled her vehicle. The vehicle rolled back onto the pavemen and came to rest upside down. The driver, Teal Hartman, 31, of Livingston, crawled from the wreckage. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Onlaska Volunteer Fire Department and Troopers Johnny Wilkerson, Corporal Ramey Bass, and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway Patrol. Hartman was transported by ambulance to a hosptial in Lufkin with serious injuries (due to weather, no medical helicopter). All traffic on 350 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Hartman's vehicle was recovered by Countrty Boy Towing out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Collision Gets One Flown, EAST TEMPE, April 20, 2023 - At approximately 12 pm on April 20, 2023, the driver of a Red Honda sedan was south-bound on FM-350 South. The driver attempted a left turn into Lake Area Mobile Home Park but failed to yield to a west-bound blue Nissan Versa. The red Honda (driven by Dustin Charles Vaughn, 31, of Eustace) was knocked backwards onto the south-bound shoulder. The blue Nissan (driven by Brian Lee Cunningham, 41, of Onalaska) left the pavement to the right and slid out into the lawn of the mobile home park. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Trooper Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Vaughn was in serious pain as he sustained a major leg injury. Cunningham refused treatment. Vaughn was transported by ambulance to Livingston Municipal Airport where a medical helicopter landed and transported him to Conroe Regional Hospital with serious injuries. All traffic on 350 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Vaughn was cited for failure to yield. Cunningham was cited for driving while license invalid. Vaughn's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston. Cunningham's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.

Truck Slams Into Bridge Column, LIVINGSTON, April 20, 2023 - At approximately 10:15 am on April 20, 2023, the driver of a 2007 Chevy Avalanche was south-bound and curving left going under the US-59 U-Turn underpass (next to Boot Barn). The driver allegedly had brake failure as his truck left the pavement to the right and slammed into a bridge column. Allegiance and Texas EMS service were dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Officers with Livingston Police Department including investigating officer, Scott Paske. The driver, Robert L. Habisch, Jr., 45, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, was allegedly thrown from his truck and landed on the ground next to his truck. His passenger, Crystal Dawn Hinden, 41, of Conroe, was pinned in the vehicle (passenger's side). Volunteer Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the door off and gain access to Hinden. Habisch was transported by ambulance to a landing zone and flown to Conroe Regional Hospital with serious injurie. Hinden was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. This accident remains under investigation by the Livingston Police Department. Habisch's vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing and will be stored in Livingston.

Pickup Rolls, Driver Ejected, GOODRICH, April 15, 2023 - At approximately 8:25 am on April 15, 2023, a brown 2002 Chevy pickup, driven by a 16 year old Livingston Youth, was east-bound on FM-2665 when he came out of a curve too fast and left the pavement to the right. His pickup rolled and came to rest on a barbed wire fence at a tree near Copeland Creek. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway. During the rollover, the 16 year old was ejected but survived. He was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic on 2665 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. The youth was cited for unsafe speed. The pickup was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.

2 Vehicle Accident, 6 Kids Flown (ages 6 months to 6 years), WEST TEMPE, April 8, 2023 - At approximately 12:48 pm on April 8, 2023, a white 1999 Ford F-550 (pulling a trailer loaded with timber), driven by Arlo Dumas, 50, of Point Blank, was west-bound on US-190 West. Dumas suddenly impacted a navy blue 2023 Toyota Highlander driven by Brittany Bryant, 42, of Livingston. Bryant was east-bound and attempted a left turn onto Walding Road directly in front of Dumas. Dumas' pickup struck the back end passenger's side of Bryant's vehicle. The impact caused Bryant to spin around (about 360 degrees) and come to rest in the grass of the left side of Walden Road entrance. Dumas pulled to the shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, an Officer with Livingston Police Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Kevin Burman and Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol. There were six kids in Bryant's vehicle (some weren't in child car seats). All six kids (ages 6 months to 6 years of age) were flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. Two medical helicopters landed on 190 West, others landed at Livingston Municipal Airport. Bryant and another passenger (adult female) were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation, flight operations, and cleanup. Bryant was cited for failing to yield and for unrestrained children. Dumas was cited for expired vehicle registration. Dumas' vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing while Bryant's vehicle was recovered by Harwood Wrecker Service.

Pickup VS 18 Wheeler, MIDWAY, April 3, 2023 - At approximately 11:50 pm on April 2, 2023, an 18 wheeler driven by Israel Mederos Pulido, 40, of Katy, was east-bound on US-190 East. As Pulido was passing WA Holder Road, a west-bound silver 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Nathan Remedies, 40, of Zwollie, Louisiana, crossed the center line and grazed the 18 wheeler. The 18 wheeler came to rest right there, the pickup swerved right and slid to the side of 190 (west-bound side). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office including Sergeant John Carter, Deputy Adam McDowell, and Deputy Justin Murdock and Trooper Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Remedies was allegedly found under his pickup. He crawled out, got up, walked around and stated that he was physically fine. Pulido was physically okay. Remedies refused medical treatment. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Remedies was cited for causing the accident. A heavy-duty wrecker was sent for, for Pulido's 18 wheeler, and a wrecker was sent for to recover Remedies pickup.

Fire at Rail Car Services Plant, GOODRICH, March 31, 2023 - Shortly after 10 pm on March 31, 2023, Sergeant Adrian Ontiveros with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to AITX Rail Car Services plant in Goodrich regarding a possible fire. Ontiveros arrived on the scene and immediately notified dispatch to summon fire departments. Fire departments from Goodrich, Livingston, Scenic Loop, Alabama Coushatta and others arrived to find the south end of the huge industrial building on fire. The fire was doused, and there were no reported injuries. It is not yet known what caused the fire, but the cause is under investigation. That's all the information we have at this time.

Logging Truck Rollover, BARNES, March 24, 2023 - At approximately 10:05 am on March 24, 2023, an 18 wheeler logging truck was east-bound on FM-942 East. For some reason, the 18 wheeler, driven by Curtis Broom, 60, of Woodville, left the pavement to the right and turned over losing it's load of logs (just east of FM-1745). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Michael McDuffie with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Sean Barnes and David Morris with the Texas Highway Patrol. Broom was pinned in his rig when a witness to the wreck ran over and helped him get out. Broom had a bump on his head, but was otherwise okay and refused medical treatment. Traffic on 942 was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. Broom was cited for failure to maintain a single land of traffic. A heavy duty wrecker was sent for to clean up the mess.

Vehicles Collide on 190 West, LIVINGSTON, March 21, 2023 - At approximately 7:30 pm on March 23, 2023, a black Ford F-350 was east-bound on US-190 West. As the truck was passing through the intersection of 350 South at 190, the driver of a silver Honda Accord pulled directly in front of the Ford pickup. The pickup (which had a modified lift kit with large tires) struck and drove over the hood of the Honda. The pickup then continued east and turned over, coming to rest upside down in the road. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene, along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Sergeant Chris Simmons, and Officers Taryn Lopez, and Jordi Lebouef with Livingston Police Department. It is not yet clear which vehicle ran a red light. Fortunately, there were no injuries. All traffic on the east-bound side of 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Both vehicles were recovered by Smith Towing and was assisted by Country Boy Towing. This accident is still under investigation by the Livingston Police Department.

TDC Transport Van Crashes and Rolls 3 Times, GOODRICH, March 19, 2023 - At approximately 8:15 am on March 19, 2023, a Texas Department of Corrections transport van was north-bound on US-59. For some reason, the driver, Jatavion Rigsby, 26, of San Augustine, abruptly cut left, then overcorrected right, left the pavement to the right, and rolled three times striking several hack berry trees. The van cam to rest upside down on a barbed wire fence in Goodrich less than two miles from the Trinity River Bridge. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Sean Barnes, David Morris and another Trooper from San Jacinto County. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life and other extraction equipment to free Rigsby, his co-worker, Zachery Young, 30, of Jasper, and the one inmate that was being transported, Louis Matthews, 61, being transported from the Gib Lewis Unit. Officials from TDC also arrived on the scene including Polunsky Unit Senior Warden, Daniel Dickerson. The driver, Rigsby, was flown to Kingwood Hospital, his co-worker, Young, was transported by ambulance to Kingwood Hospital, and the inmate, Matthews, was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. Matthews was entrapped in the van. Firemen used extraction equipment to open the van and a ladder truck to lower a rope into the van, and lift Matthews (Matthews is a wheel chair bound inmate) out of the van cradled in a special device. All traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during rescue operations, flight operations, investigation, and cleanup. It is not yet knows what caused Rigsby to suddenly swerve causing the accident. The van was recovered by Country Boy Towing and was assisted by Smith Towing. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
