Motor Scooter Crash Hospitalizes Livingston Woman, LIVINGSTON, August 9, 2022 - At approximately 6:30 pm on August 9, 2022, a Vespa motor scooter, driven by Kimberly Burden, 38, of Livingston, was north-bound on FM-350 South when she lost control of her scooter and left the pavement to the right. The scooter turned over and Burden was ejected (she was wearing a helmet). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Trooper Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol. Burden was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with a possible broken collar bone. No citations were issued. Her motor scooter was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.

FIRE PLANE SINKS IN LAKE LIVINGSTON, ONALASKA TEXAS, 08/09/22...
Fire Fighter Plane Sinks in Lake Livingston, ONALASKA, August 9, 2022 - At approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 9, 2022, a Fire Boss Single Engine Air Tanker/Scooper was scooping water off Lake Livingston (south side of the big brige) when there was some type of malfunction. The plane crashed into the water. The pilot was able to get out of the plane as it sank. A boat with good samaritans on board spotted the accident, and went by and rescued the pilot from the water. The pilot had no injuries. Part of the plane (a pontoon) was the only thing that didn't sink.
Due to the aircraft incident that occurred the Trinity River Authority (TRA) is enacting its Ordinance 020AAAA and prohibiting access to the immediate area on Lake Livingston surrounding the US HWY 190 W causeway, as well as several boat ramps, for a period of 24 hours. Closed boat ramps will have traffic cones restricting access. Do not remove cones to gain access. This action is for public protection as well as reservation of the accident area for investigation.
TRA is taking this action at the direction of County and State Emergency Management officials.

Strange Wreck, 4 Hospitalized, LIVINGSTON, August 5, 2022 - At approximately 2:43 pm on August 5, 2022, a gray 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by Adrian Royce Meredith, 42, of Pottsville, Arkansas, was north-bound on US-59 just south of the Livingston City Limits. Meredith struck a black 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup that pulled in front of him from the crossover (directly across from the entrance of Lakeside Village). The Chevy pickup was driven by James Hilliard Wright, 79, of Moscow. Meredith slid to the right shoulder of 59 while Hilliard, somehow, was spun around, possibly disoriented, and drove southward and veered off the pavement and into an open field at the entrance of Lakeside Village and came to rest near a tree nearly 100 yards into the field. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, and Troopers Kevin Burman and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Both Meredith and his female passenger, and Wright and his wife were all transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries (3 by ambulance, 1 by private vehicle). Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Wright was cited for failure to yield right-of-way. Meredith's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston. Wright's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.

Pickups Collide, 3 Hospitalized, INDIAN SPRINGS, August 4, 2022 - At approximately 4:10 pm on August 4, 2022, a silver 2013 Ford F-250, driven by Angela Vanek, 45, of Livingston, was east-bound on US-190 East. Vanek had stopped and was waiting to make a left turn (opposite side of the road from the entrance of Indians Springs) when a white 2014 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by Jessica Haygood, 35, of Woodville side swiped Vanek's pickup on the passenger's side. The impact caused Vanek's vehicle to roll as it came to rest upside down on the pavement while Haygood's vehicle left the pavement to the left and came to rest at the woodline. Haygood was aslo east-bound and initially left the pavement to the right, then she overcorrected left and swerved back up onto the pavement and impacted Vanek's pickup. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Alabama Coushatta Police Department, and Troopers Johnny Wilkerson and Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol. Both drivers and Vanek's minor son were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. A contributing factor in this accident may be a medical condition for Haygood. Traffic on 190 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Vanek's vehicle was recovered by Kwik Tow out of Livingston while Haygood's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Towing, also out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED, GOODRICH TEXAS, 08/01/22...
SUV Strikes and Kills Pedestrian, GOODRICH, August 1, 2022 - At approximately 8:50 pm on August 1, 2022, the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call from a driver who stated that he had just struck someone or something. The driver, Anthony Davis, 28, of Porter was south-bound on US-59 in a white 2016 Range Rover when his vehicle struck a pedestrian that appeared to be crossing the road from the south-bound side of 59. According to Davis, it happened so fast, that he didn't know what he hit. Davis pulled to the right shoulder of the south-bound side of 59. Davis' windshield was caved in, and the front end on the passenger's side was heavily damaged. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Livingston Fire Chief, Corky Cochran, and Trooper Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol. Akers was assisted by Sergeant Sam Lattner (also Highway Patrol), and Deputy Cedric McDuffy with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The men searched the vicinity and located the victim (name being withheld pending notification of relatives). The victim was killed on impact. Justice of the Peace, Robert "Dooley" Johnson performed an inquest at the scene. A first call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported the victim from the scene. Anthony Davis was physically okay. His vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing and will be stored in Livingston. When we receive the victim's name, we'll update the story. This accident remains under investigation by The Texas Highway Patrol.

Sleepy Driver Turns Over Box Truck, 2 Hospitalized, LIVINGSTON, July 18, 2022 - At approximately 7:25 am on July 18, 2022, a box truck transporting large appliances, driven by Luis Arnulfo Navarrete Orellana, 26, of Houston, was north-bound on US-59. Orellana allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. His box truck left the pavement to the left and entered the center median where it turned over on its passenger's side. The impact ruptured the cargo portion of the truck as a washing machine and refrigerator partially spilled out. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Kevin Burman and Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. Both Orellana and his passenger appeared to be in pain. Both were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No citations were issued. A heavy-duty wrecker was summoned to clean up the mess.

Head On Collision, 1 Driver Flown, 1 Deceased, LIVINGSTON, July 17, 2022 - Shortly after 1 pm on July 17, 2022, the driver of a silver 2006 Dodge Caravan was north-bound on US-59 (across from American Legion Hall) when the driver of a black Chevy HHR, for some reason, turned onto the exit ramp and drove into the oncoming traffic, and slammed head on into the Dodge Caravan. The Dodge came to rest in the middle of the road while the Chevy HHR came to rest on the shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Sergeant Dallas Early, Chris Simmons, Chad Lilley, and Detective Leon Middleton with the Livingston Police Department. Additionally, Troopers Nick Hatton and Johnny Wilkerson and Deputy Terri Mayer with the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrived to assist. The driver of the Chevy HHR was allegedly killed on impact. The driver of the Dodge was flown from the scene by Air Life Air Medical. The Chevy had two dog passengers, 1 dog was killed. All traffic on the north-bound side was blocked during flight operations and partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. The names of the drivers have not yet been released. Both vehicles were recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston (Ken's was assisted by Dan's Towing). This accident remains under investigation by the Livingston Police Department.

CORRIGAN POLICE PURSUIT, 3 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY, NEW WILLARD TEXAS, 07/16/22...
Corrigan Police Pursuit, 3 Suspects in Custody, NEW WILLARD, July 16, 2022 - At approximately 9:30 am on July 16, 2022, Officer Bobby Goynes, with the Corrigan Police Department stopped a south-bound gray 2015 Mercedes Benz S550 on US-59 for speeding (85 mph in a 55). Goynes had the driver exit the vehicle. During this time, Officer Michael McDuffie (also with Corrigan PD) arrived to assist Officer Goynes. While Goynes was questioning the driver, one of the two passengers jumped into the driver's seat and took off. Officer McDuffie gave chase, Goynes loaded the suspect into his unit, and pursuit was established. The pursuit exceed 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and State Troopers Johnny Wilkerson and Kevin Burman all joined in the effort to stop the fleeing vehicle. As the vehicle was approaching the south end of Loop 116, by a stroke of luck for the police, the suspect vehicle blew a rear tire. The vehicle turned onto Loop 116 as the police followed. The vehicle finally stopped on Loop 116. The two remaining suspects jumped out and fled on foot, only to be caught by Officer Goynes and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson. At time of press, we do not yet have the names of the suspects. During a vehicle search, police found a zip lock back with marijuana, a container with concentrated THC, and the trunk was full of catalytic converters that were allegedly stolen out of Lufkin. The suspects' ages are 19, 17, and 16 years of age.

Volunteer Fire Departments from Corrigan, Livingston, Alabama Coushatta, and Indian Springs were dispatched to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames before the flames could consume a house. Additionally, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a State Trooper, and the Texas Forest Service were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Approximately 7 Acres Burn North of Livingston, LIVINGSTON, July 13, 2022 - Shortly after 3 pm on July 13, 2022, Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to property directly behind Gray's Landing RV Park located in the 4174 block of US-59 (just north of the Livingston City Limits). Firemen arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire in about fourty minutes. Livingston Fire Chief, Corky Cochran, stated that "fires don't just start themselves". Cochran stated to PolkCountyToday.com that "...a burn pile is likely the cause". Fortunately there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation The Texas Forest Service.

Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Nick Hatton and Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. Cuherpin was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure, but is suspected of being intoxicated. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered the pickup and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Cuherpin may be facing the charge of driving while intoxicated. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Car Slammed by Logging Truck, No Injuries, LIVINGSTON, July 6, 2022 - Shortly before 12 noon on July 6, 2022, the driver of a red Hyundai Elantra was north-bound on Business 59 (north end of Livingston next to Z-Mart). The driver was pulled into the left turning lane, then suddenly decided to cut back right, apparently not realizing there was a logging truck coming in that lane. The logging truck impacted the passenger's side of the Hyundai, knocking it back into it's turning lane where it came to rest. The driver of the logging truck pulled to the right shoulder of Business 59. Officers with Livingston Police Department were dispatched to the scene and were assisted by Trooper Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. There were no injuries in the accident. The driver of the Hyundai was cited for causing the accident. The car was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.

Fire Totals Pickup, LIVINGSTON, July 2, 2022 - At approximately 4:30 pm on July 2, 2022, the driver of a Dodge pickup had his truck parked near the entrance of Lakeside Village (subdivision just south of Livingston City Limits). An apparent electrical problem caused the engine compartment to ignite. Within minutes the engine compartment and cab was engulfed in flames. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies Terri Mayer and Corporal Rey Davalos with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol. Firemen extinguished the fire, but the truck was totaled. There were no injuries in this incident.

Glancing Head On Collision, 2 Hospitalized, BEACH CREEK, June 30, 2022 - At approximately 7:16 am on June 30, 2022, a maroon 2017 Buick Enclave, driven by Sharon Phelps, 57, of Manvel, was south-bound on FM-3126. Phelps was slowing to make a left turn when a north-bound white 2020 Chevy Colorado pickup, driven by Alek Collins, 24, of Livingston, crossed the center line and impacted Phelps' vehicle (glancing head on collision next to Cedar Lake Drive). The impact caused Phelps' vehicle to leave the pavement to the right and slide backwards down an embankment facing her opposite direction of travel, while Collins' vehicle spun around facing north (his opposite direction of travel). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Trooper Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Phelps was trapped in her vehicle. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut her door off and carefully remove her from her vehicle. Collins walked out of his vehicle and laid down in the grass on the north-bound side of 3126. Both Phelps and Collins were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on 3126 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Collins was cited for failure to control speed. The vehicles were recovered by LakeView Wrecker and Kwik Tow, both out of Livingston.

The driver was waiting to make a left turn onto FM-943. At that moment, the driver of a white 2012 Dodge pickup was north-bound on 146. As the Dodge was about to pass the Chrysler, the Dodge allegedly crossed the center line causing a glancing head on collision. The Dodge slid to the shoulder on the south-bound side of 146. The Chrysler remained on the pavement spun around facing east. Fire Totals Car, LIVINGSTON, June 26, 2022 - Shortly before 2 pm on June 26, 2022, Trooper Nick Hatton, with the Texas Highway Patrol was alerted that there was a car fire near the location where he was on patrol. Trooper Hatton was on US-59 north of Livingston. Hatton turned his vehicle around and headed south towards Livingston. He found a black late model Acura sedan with the engine compartment on fire. The driver had pulled to the right shoulder just before the north end overpass. The driver safely exited his vehicle. Hatton notified Polk County Dispatch who, in turn dispatched Livingston Volunteer Fire Department to the scene. The firemen safely extinguished the fire with no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown, other than it originated in the engine compartment. The totaled vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and was stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.

The Nissan left the pavement to the right and came to rest in the grass on the west-bound side of 190. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Nick Hatton and Kevin Burman with the Texas Highway Patrol. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The driver of the Nissan was cited for failure to control speed. George White & Sons Wrecker Service was summoned to clean up the mess.

Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department, Constable Darwon Evans, and Troopers Kevin Burman and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Pady and Franks were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Franks was flown by medical helicopter to Houston. Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Pady's motorcycle and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
