The American Express Gold Card is a fantastic travel credit card that can help you earn travel rewards while at home due to its rewards categories of 4X points at U.S. Supermarkets (up to $25K spend) and Dining Worldwide. Plus, getting a 90K Membership Rewards points welcome offer makes it even better in that first year (worth at least $900 towards flights)! Amex points are extremely valuable in the travel credit card game, especially because the Amex transfer partners give you so many awesome ways to get creative when putting together an itinerary.
However, the Amex Gold 90K offer is usually TARGETED, meaning not everyone will see it all the time.
So, here are 5 TRICKS you can use to increase your odds of getting that 90K offer to show up before you apply.
1. CardMatch - this is a great tool to check for higher credit card signup bonuses, targeted offers, and elevated signup bonuses that may not be available to the public. The Amex Gold 90K may show up in here (and there’s no hard inquiry on your credit report).
2. Referral Links, especially via private / incognito browser windows. There’s an insane offer for the Amex Gold Card that is to earn 90K Membership Rewards points PLUS a $200 statement credit after meeting spending requirements, and it’s only available right now via referral links (see above) through 6.07.2023.
3. Private / Incognito Browser Window, directly via Amex’s website. When you clear your browser history, cookies, etc., it makes it look like it’s your first time going to the American Express website to apply for an Amex credit card. This may increase your chances of seeing higher welcome offers for the Amex Gold Card, Amex Platinum Card, and others.
4. Targeted Offers In Your Amex Account. Log into your American Express account and look around the dashboard, keeping an eye out for banners at the top or side, as well as browsing through the Amex Offers & Benefits section a bit further down.
5. Targeted Mailers. Before throwing out your junk mail, look for physical mailers from Amex with the 90K welcome offer!

You’ll also get a 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months (then a variable 18.74% - 29.74% variable APR to follow). Additionally, you’ll receive $0 Buy Now Pay Later Plan It fees for the first 15 months, then up to a 1.33% monthly fee after that.
Annual Fee: $0
Rewards - Earning: Here’s how the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card earns cash back…
- 3% Groceries at U.S. Supermarkets (up to $6K spent per year)
- 3% Online Retail Purchases at U.S. Online Retailers (up to $6K spent per year)

Benefits: The Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card offers an $84 ‘The Disney Bundle’ Credit (issued as $7 per month) and a $180 Home Chef Credit (issued as up to $15 per month). Terms apply to both. You also get access to Amex Offers and a complimentary Shoprunner membership.
Insurance & Protections: Both Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance and Purchase Protection come with this card.
How I Earned Over 19% Cash Back!
- I combined the standard earning rate of 3% on U.S. Online Retail Purchases with an Amex Offer that was offering an additional 20% back (up to $10 max) for Under Armour purchases. That alone put me over 19%, but then I also went through Rakuten for an additional 10% AND used Shoprunner for free 2-day shipping and returns!
Is the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card Worth It?
YES if you…
- Want 1 of the BEST credit cards for online retail
- Want 1 card to cover 3 useful categories: Online Retail (3%) | Gas (3%) | Groceries (3%)
- Prefer cash back over travel rewards
- Are ok with statement credit redemptions
NO if you…
- Buy groceries at Target, Walmart, Costco, etc.
- Buy gas at supermarkets, warehouse clubs, etc.
- Spend internationally in the 3% categories.
- Spend a lot more than $6,000/yr. in the 3% categories & don’t want to switch cards.
- Prefer travel rewards over cash back.

5 Things KILLING Chase Credit Cards (Nobody Talks About...)

00:00 Introduction
00:42 Problem #1 – Chase Has Very Few Unique Transfer Partners. Of the 14 total Chase Transfer Partners, only 4 of them are unique when compared against Amex Transfer Partners, Citi Transfer Partners, and Capital One Transfer Partners. However, that drops down to only ONE UNIQUE PARTNER if you also add in Bilt Transfer Partners.
5:07 Problem #2 – One of Chase’s Best Transfer Partners (Hyatt) Is a Very Small Program. Hyatt hotels are fantastic, but they’ve got a very small footprint worldwide. Currently, there are around 1,600 hotels in the World of Hyatt program, yet the likes of IHG One Rewards and Hilton Honors have around 7,000 properties participating in their programs (and Marriott Bonvoy has over 8,000)!
6:30 - Problem #3 – Chase Offers Zero Personal Core Cards With a Dedicated Gas Category. Crazy! Neither the Chase Sapphire Reserve nor the Chase Sapphire Preferred have a rewards category for gas stations. The same holds true for the Chase Freedom Unlimited and the Chase Freedom Flex (although the Flex typically earns 5% at gas stations for one quarter of the year).
9:02 Problem #4 – Chase Offers Zero Core Cards With a Dedicated, Traditional Grocery Category. Crazy again! There are a bunch of co-branded credit cards issued by Chase that offer a grocery rewards category year round. Yet, the Chase Sapphire Preferred offers 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points ONLY on ONLINE grocery purchases, and again, the Chase Freedom Flex typically has groceries as part of its quarterly categories for 3 months.
11:57 Problem #5 – Chase Has a Lot of Rules. We all know the Chase 5/24 Rule, but there are a handful of other Chase rules to be aware of that make applying for Chase credit cards a bit difficult. Watch the video below to learn more about them:

🔗 Doctor of Credit Wells Fargo To Release 5 New Rewards Credit Cards
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rumor-wells-fargo-to-release-5-new-rewards-credit-card/
00:00 – Intro
00:26 – Citi Strata Premier – This could be a rebranding of the existing Citi Premier Card, which is an excellent all-in-one credit card for earning rewards (tons of 3X categories) but not so great for travel protections (it doesn’t have any). It could also be an all-new credit card product to fully replace the Citi Premier Card (perhaps new rewards categories, benefits, protections, etc.)
2:58 – Citi Strata Elite – This sounds like a full replacement of the older Citi Prestige Card, which hasn’t been available to new applicants for awhile now. The new Citi Travel Portal with Booking.com was recently launched, which makes it plausible that Citi would wait until later to release additional card products (assuming those cards would offer higher reward multipliers when booking via the portal). It also seems unlikely that Citi would let its competitors rule the premium credit card space without trying to compete (Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum Card, U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Card, Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite Card, etc.). It’s time for Citi to reenter the premium travel rewards credit card world with a strong product!
3:36 – Hilton Honors Aspire American Express Card – This is arguably the best hotel credit card ever launched (so far), and there are some BIG changes that could come to it. This includes an increase to the annual fee and a drastic change to the current $250 Hilton Resort Credit and $250 Airline Fee Credit (hint: both may be decreased, turn into quarterly credits, but gain a ton of flexibility in what you can use them for).
8:31 – Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard –American Airlines and Citi have been circulating surveys to select cardholders with 3 different possible versions of the card. One has a $550 annual fee, another has a $595 annual fee, and the third has a $645 annual fee. Each one offers slight additions to the reward multipliers, along with annual credits with partner companies.
15:23 – Chase Freedom Rise – Nothing is known about this potential new Chase credit card yet, but it sounds like it may be a beginner credit card, a secured credit card, or even a rebranding of the Chase Slate Edge Card.
17:29 – Wells Fargo – There’ve been rumors that Wells Fargo has yet to launch additional rewards credit cards. In recent history, they launched the Wells Fargo Autograph and Wells Fargo Reflect cards. Only time will tell if they add additional products to their portfolio.

If you’re looking to build business credit and/or simply want to keep your business expenses separate from your personal expenses, then getting a business credit card for small business is an excellent way to accomplish this. Here are my top 10 choices…
00:00 - Intro
00:56 - Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Secured credit Card
This is a great option if you have no credit history or if you’re repairing / rebuilding past credit history. As a secured credit card, it requires putting down a deposit; you’ll then receive a credit limit equal to that deposit. Over time, Bank of America will do account reviews to see if you’re eligible to graduate to a regular unsecured credit card and get your deposit back.
2:44 - American Express Business Platinum Card
The Amex Business Platinum Card is designed for those of you who have a lot of spend and/or have travel as a big focus of your business. It comes with a lot of elite travel perks like airport lounge access (Amex Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, and more), elite status with Marriott and Hilton, rental car upgrade opportunities, and TONS of credits that span both travel and business categories. It earns Amex Membership Rewards points, which are best used for flights and other select travel redemptions.
4:55 - American Express Business Gold Card
The Amex Business Gold Card makes a lot of sense for those of you who have big spend in the 4X-point categories. The cool thing is that the card automatically awards you 4X points in the top 2 spend categories each billing cycle from an eligible list. In other words, wherever you SPENT the most is where you’ll EARN the most! Consider this card if you spend on travel, advertising, gas, and dining.
6:40 - American Express Blue Business Plus Credit Card
The Amex Blue Business Plus earns 2X Membership Rewards points on all purchases, up to $50K per year. It’s a great card if you value simplicity and don’t want to worry about rewards categories.
8:03 - American Express Blue Business Cash Card
The Amex Blue Business Cash earns 2% cash back on all purchases, up to $50K per year. Another excellent choice for simplicity. It even automatically redeems your cash back each month!
9:38 - Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card
This business credit card has some fantastic 3X rewards categories and earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points (among the best travel points available). Consider this card if you spend on travel, advertising, shipping and dining.
11:12 - Chase Ink Business Cash credit card
One of the best business credit cards with no annual fee. It earns cash back in the form of Chase Ultimate Rewards points (1 point = 1¢ for cash back). Consider it if you spend a lot at office supply stores and/or on internet, cable, and phone services (5% cash back in those categories on up to $25K spend per year).
12:53 - Costco Anywhere Visa Business Credit Card by Citi
It goes without saying this card is awesome if you spend a lot at Costco (2% cash back), though it offers even higher rewards rates on gas (4%), restaurants (3%) and travel (3%).
14:34 - Bank of America Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card
You might like this card for its ability to change your top rewards category (3% cash back) every month. Flexibility is the focus with this card!
16:26 - Amazon Business Prime Card
Spend a lot on Amazon for your business? Consider this card to earn 5% cash back on those purchases with no annual fee!

The American Express Platinum Card is a fantastic travel credit card, and getting a 150K Membership Rewards points welcome offer makes it even better in that first year! Amex points are extremely valuable in the travel credit card game, especially because the Amex transfer partners give you so many awesome ways to get creative when putting together an itinerary.
However, the Amex Platinum 150K offer is usually TARGETED, meaning not everyone will see it all the time.
So, here are 5 TRICKS you can use to increase your odds of getting that 150K offer to show up before you apply.
1. CardMatch™ - this is a great tool to check for higher credit card signup bonuses, targeted offers, and elevated signup bonuses that may not be available to the public. The Amex Platinum 150K offer has been known to show up here.
2. Referral Links, especially via private / incognito browser windows. There’s an insane offer for the Amex Platinum Card that is to earn 150K Membership Rewards points PLUS a $200 statement credit after meeting spending requirements, and it’s only available right now via referral links (see above) through 6.07.2023.
3. Private / Incognito Browser Window, directly via Amex’s website. When you clear your browser history, cookies, etc., it makes it look like it’s your first time going to the American Express website to apply for an Amex credit card. This may increase your chances of seeing higher welcome offers for the Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, and others.
4. Targeted Offers In Your Amex Account. Log into your American Express account and look around the dashboard, keeping an eye out for banners at the top or side, as well as browsing through the Amex Offers & Benefits section a bit further down.
5. Targeted Mailers. Before throwing out your junk mail, look for physical mailers from Amex with the 150K welcome offer!

When it comes to the best travel credit cards, there are MANY. From bank cards like the Amex Platinum Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve, to hotel credit cards like the Hilton Honors American Express and Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, to airline credit cards like the Delta credit cards and American Airlines credit cards, the choices are seemingly endless.
But where do hotel credit cards fit in as part of an overall credit card strategy? Are they even worth getting?
The answer may surprise you, as it’s both YES and NO depending on the situation.
In this video, I’ll explain when hotel credit cards are worth it and how to best use them. I’ll also compare them to some of the best travel credit cards from Chase, American Express, Citi, and Capital One. That way you can see which credit card rewards are best used for everyday spending vs. travel (i.e. when staying at hotels, per the focus of this video).
To put it simply…
Hotel credit cards are usually BAD for:
1. Earning rewards on everyday spend.
2. Saving rewards long term.
3. Flexibility.
Hotel credit cards are usually GREAT for
1. Earning hotel points fast via welcome offers (i.e. signup bonuses).
2. Obtaining hotel elite status by default and via spending.
3. Paying for nights directly at hotels.
4. Free night award certificates!
Here are some of the best hotel credit cards available right now:
- Hilton Honors American Express Card (also called the Hilton Honors Card)
- Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card (Hilton Honors Surpass Card)
- Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card (Hilton Aspire Card)
- Hilton Honors Business Card
- Marriott Bonvoy Bold credit card
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card
- Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful credit card
- Marriott Bonvoy Business Card
- Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card
- Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card
- IHG Rewards Traveler Credit Card
- IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card
- IHG Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
- World of Hyatt Credit Card
- World of Hyatt Business Credit Card
- Wyndham Rewards Earner Card
- Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus Card
- Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card
- Choice Privileges Mastercard (new version coming in Spring 2023, issued by Wells Fargo)

The American Express Platinum Card has been updated a number of times over the years, going from a plastic card to a metal card, experiencing various increases to the annual fee, and a bunch of changes to the benefits.
I recently upgraded my second Amex Gold Card (the Rose Gold Card version) to a second Amex Platinum Card. Normally, having 2 of the same credit cards doesn’t serve much of a purpose for most people, but I did have my reasons…
1. I wanted to make a video about the 18 Amex Platinum Card benefits guide to show others how they work. To do that, I wanted a ‘new’ Platinum Card to work with so the benefits dashboard would be fresh. That way I could make a better tutorial video. You can watch that video here: https://youtu.be/oqd5OthPJzE
2. I could still (more than) break even on a second American Express Platinum Card by using just a few benefits. Namely…
(a) The $300 Equinox Credit now works on all membership types. Since I have a Single-Club Membership, this was great news.
(b) The $200 Uber Cash benefit and $200 Airline Fee Credit are both easy for me to use every year for food delivery and/or pickup as well as incidental charges I make on 1 selected airline each year. Historically, I've enjoyed using this benefit on Southwest Airlines and American Airlines.
(c) I also make good use of the $100 Saks Credit when buying gifts for other people.
(d) Amex gave me a targeted upgrade offer to earn 25,000 Amex Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 in the first 6 months.
I should also note that since this is a metal credit card (actually a 'charge card'), it also has a flex factor for some people. However, make sure the card benefits make sense for you before getting it. With a $695 annual fee, you don't want it to cause you to waste your money.
So, now it’s time for an American Express Platinum Card unboxing video given that my new one has arrived!

The American Express Platinum Card benefits seem like they never end! This card has long been positioned as one of the best travel credit cards on the market and probably THE best credit card for lounge access.
However, with all of the travel and lifestyle benefits that come with the Amex Platinum Card, there also comes a lot of terms and restrictions that you need to be aware of.
In fact, many of the credits and benefits require enrollment or activation (and if you forget that step, they won’t work…at all)!

What is the Credit Card Ladder?
Simply put, it’s a step-by-step method to begin & grow your credit journey, achieving higher scores, better cards, and better rewards along the way. Climbing the Credit Card Ladder is designed to help people build credit for the first time or rebuild credit from lower scores.
Frankly, it’s a good system and it can definitely lead you to have success.
But here’s the thing…
It’s NOT necessary.
Why?
Because it’s possible to build your credit score with ONE credit card (or an optional second) and still achieve high scores. It’s also possible to jump from that first beginner credit card all the way up to mid-tier or even top-tier premium travel credit cards WITHOUT passing through the lower tiers of the credit card ladder.
Want the Amex Platinum Card? Great! You DON’T need to get an Amex credit card with no annual fee first…and then get the Amex Green Card…and then get the Amex Gold Card all before you submit an application for the Amex Platinum Card. Why not start with a student credit card, build for a year, and then go straight for that Amex Platinum when you graduate?
Want the Chase Sapphire Reserve? Great! You DON’T need to get a Freedom-branded card first (like the Chase Freedom Flex or the Chase Freedom Unlimited), and then get the Chase Sapphire Preferred, and then upgrade to the Reserve. Why not start with a Capital One secured credit card, build for a year, and then go straight for that Chase Sapphire Preferred, Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, or World of Hyatt credit card?
The important thing is that you start your credit card journey (usually on Tier 1 of the Credit Card Ladder), use it responsibly by paying your bill on time, avoiding interest and debt, not using a high percentage of your credit limit, etc. From there, you’ll have a lot more credit card options than you think.
The Credit Card Ladder is GREAT for those of you who want structure…a blueprint…step by step instructions to follow to keep you on track and focused.
But for those of you who simply want to get into the credit card game as quickly as possible to start saving money on travel, you can truly pave your own path once you’ve gotten that first year of credit history built (or potentially in even less time with certain cards, like Amex charge cards). The reason why this is possible is because you can go from a starter credit card and build a credit score into the 700s within a matter of months. And although many banks that issue travel credit cards may want to see 1 full year of credit history built up first, in reality, that’s still very short term (and it doesn’t require any sort of Credit Ladder process to make it happen).
More importantly, however, is that you build smart financial habits along the way. Credit cards are awesome tools when used to your advantage, and a crucial step to that is making sure you can pay the bill ;-)

Of all the best travel credit cards on the market, the American Express Platinum Card usually comes to mind first. Although its earning power is not great for everyday spending, where it really stands out is with all of the premium travel benefits (and more recently, lifestyle benefits). Here's my full Amex Platinum Card review...
For the initial public welcome offer, you can earn 80,000 Amex Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 in the first 6 months (worth $800+ for flights). However, there may also be Amex Platinum 150K offers on a targeted basis. The Amex Platinum Resy offers tend to be good as well.
The Amex Platinum annual fee is now $695.
To earn Amex Membership Rewards points long term, the Amex Platinum Card offers the following earning categories:
- 5X Flights - booked directly with the airlines or via the Amex Travel portal on up to $500K spend per year.
- 5X Hotels when they’re prepaid and booked via the Amex Travel portal.
- 1X Other Purchases.
What are Amex points worth?
- 1 point = 1.7¢ on average when redeemed via Amex Transfer partners.
- 1 point = 1.0¢ for flights and Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts bookings via the Amex Travel portal.
- 1 point = 0.7¢ for hotels, car rentals, cruises, and vacations.
- 1 point = 0.6¢ for cash back as a statement credit.
Amex Transfer Partners
Airlines
- Aer Lingus AerClub
- Aeromexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France KLM Flying Blue
- ANA Mileage Club
- Avianca LifeMiles
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
- Iberia Plus
- JetBlue TrueBlue
- Qantas Frequent Flier
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
Hotels
- Choice Privileges
- Hilton Honors
- Marriott Bonvoy
Regarding the Amex Platinum Card Benefits, there are TONS of them outlined in the video. They range from travel to lifestyle to retail benefits (plus insurance protections) and can bring a lot of value provided they fit into your spending and travel habits.
Here are a few of the updates that have occurred over the past year or so…
1. The Amex Centurion Lounge guest policy has changed.
- Guests ages 18+: $50 each
- Guests ages 2-17: $30 each
- Guests under 2 years old: free
- WAIVER: By spending $75K per calendar year on the Platinum Card, you can bring 2 guests per visit for free.
2. The $300 Equinox credit can now be used annually. It will run on a calendar year and ALL membership types will be eligible.
3. The Hertz elite status has been upgraded to Hertz President's Circle.
4. The CLEAR Credit is now $189 (up from $179).
5. The $240 Digital Entertainment credit has expanded and now includes: Audible, Disney+, The Disney Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, Peacock, SiriusXM, and the New York Times.

The Amex Green Card is actually a great travel credit card. It earns Amex Membership Rewards points which are among the best rewards to redeem for flights, and it has some excellent 3X rewards categories that cover a lot of areas. However, since having the card since 2018, the value proposition has decreased for me and it no longer fits into my overall credit card strategy. Here are my reasons for canceling the American Express Green Card…
Reason #1: I have no use for the $189 CLEAR Credit. CLEAR is great for expedited security at the airport and other participating locations (like stadiums). However, I also have the Amex Platinum Card which offers the exact same credit. Since I have no need for a second, this has no value for me.
Reason #2: I have no use for the $100 LoungeBuddy Credit. LoungeBuddy was acquired by Amex in 2019 and it allows you to buy day passes to airport lounges around the world. However, many of those lounges also participate in Priority Pass and/or the Plaza Premium programs. I have access to those networks through the American Express Platinum Card, too, so this is another overlap in benefits that doesn’t make sense for me.
Reason #3: I only use the Amex Green Card for a few rewards categories, like rideshares, parking, tolls, and non-chain hotels. But…I also have other credit cards to cover those categories. This could mean using my Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card, my U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve card, or my Wells Fargo Propel card (which has since been replaced by the newer Wells Fargo Autograph card, offering virtually the same 3X categories with no annual fee).
Reason #4: My annual spend is too small. Since I cannot use the 2 credits mentioned above, I’d have to earn enough Amex Membership Rewards points each year to break even with the $150 annual fee and then get into profit. However, my spend isn’t large enough to make that happen.
Reason #5: I didn’t get an Amex retention offer this year.
So, while I do think the Amex Green Card is an excellent product, it’s just not right for me at the moment. For the reasons listed, I decided to cancel the card.

I finally got my hands on one of the most unique credit cards to be launched in a long time (and currently the best credit card to pay rent)!
It’s called the Bilt World Elite Mastercard (or Bilt Mastercard for short … or more casually just the Bilt Credit Card).
What makes it so unique is that you can pay rent with a credit card AND earn rewards (1 point per dollar) WITHOUT fees (i.e. the typical 2% - 3% transaction fee you’d normally have to pay when using a credit card). That’s a game changer because normally paying additional fees cancels out the value of the rewards you’d earn on regular travel credit cards or cash back credit cards. That’s why up until now I’ve always paid my rent via cash / ACH from a checking account OR on a new credit card with a signup bonus that was large enough to justify any fees and still leave me with hundreds in profit.
Beyond rent, you can still use the Bilt Mastercard to earn points in other spend categories. It earns 3X points on dining, 2X points on travel, and 1X points on all other purchases (as long as you make at least 5 total transactions per billing cycle on purchases). Those rates are doubled on the 1st of each month (i.e. Bilt Rent Day) so you can earn 6X, 4X, and 2X (except for rent, which still earns 1X).
I plan to cover all the details on how to redeem Bilt points as well as the Bilt Credit Card benefits in a future Bilt Credit Card review video.
Meanwhile, here are the main reasons why I applied for the Bilt Mastercard:
1. I could finally understand the rewards program. It used to be overly complicated when it first launched. Fortunately, the rewards program has been simplified since then. Here's a link to a post by NerdWallet about the old rewards structure in case you'd like to see what it was like: https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/credit-cards/bilt-mastercard-earn-rewards-on-rent-payments
2. Earn rewards by paying rent without fees. This means that the value of the rewards I earn is now actual profit that I can redeem to save money on travel.
3. Competitive travel credit card with no annual fee. The Bilt transfer partners are very strong and the card has some excellent travel protections, too. Here’s the current list of Bilt transfer partners, which may change over time:
- American Airlines AAdvantage
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- United MileagePlus
- Emirates Skywards
- Air France KLM Flying Blue
- Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
- Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
- Virgin Red
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- British Airways Avios
- Iberia Airlines Avios
- Aer Lingus AerClub
- IHG Hotels & Resorts
- World of Hyatt
4. Get first-hand experience using it. There are a lot of unique features of the Bilt Mastercard that I wanted to better understand by actually using the card product.
5. YouTube content / educate others. Many others have questions about this card, so once I learn how to use it myself, I’m eager to share what I learn with others so they too can earn rewards by paying rent with a credit card!
What did you think of the Bilt Credit Card Unboxing? I've gotta say, it's probably the coolest I've seen in years! (perhaps ever?)

If you’re a frequent flier on United Airlines and enjoy lounge access and VIP / elite perks, then the United Club Infinite Card should definitely be on your radar!
On the whole, airline credit cards are typically best for their benefits and less so for ongoing spend (a good exception to that is using the card to spend towards earning higher levels of elite status).
To help you decide if you should apply, here’s a detailed review of the United Club Infinite Card benefits and how they work.

American Express credit cards are some of the BEST travel credit cards available. Whether you’ve got the top-tier Amex Platinum Card, mi-tier Amex Gold Card, entry-level Amex Green Card, or any other Amex card that earns Amex Membership Rewards points, you’ve got a really powerful rewards currency in your hands.
Here are 5 ways to redeem Amex Membership Rewards points for travel:
1. Amex Travel Portal: Here you can redeem your Amex points for flights, hotels, flight and hotel packages, rental cars, and cruises. It operates in a similar way to other 3rd party travel portals like Expedia, Kayak, Travelocity, and others. You Amex point value will be 1¢ per point for flights and 0.7¢ per point for the other options.
2. Amex The Hotel Collection: Here you can redeem American Express Membership Rewards points for upscale and luxury hotels at a rate of 0.7¢ per point. You’ll need to have the American Express Platinum Card or the American Express Gold Card to access this special portal. It requires booking 2 consecutive nights, though you’ll receive a $100 property credit and a room upgrade if available. Plus, you can use your Amex Platinum Card's $200 Hotel Credit to cover all or part of your stay!
3. Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts: Redeeming your Amex points through this option gives you special VIP / elite-like perks at 5-star hotels around the world. Amex FHR benefits may include a room upgrade when available, daily breakfast for 2, guaranteed 4 PM late checkout, 12 noon check in when available, complimentary wi-fi, and an experience credit to use at the spa or on food and beverages. Additional benefits may include a 3rd or 4th night free. Only 1 night is required for this. Plus, you can use your Amex Platinum Card’s $200 Hotel Credit to cover all or part of your stay! Your point value will be 1 point = 1¢.
4. Amex Transfer Partners: With this feature, you’re literally transferring your Amex Membership Rewards points into another a different airline or hotel program (i.e. in the end, you’ll end up with airline miles or hotel points, not Amex points). This is the BEST way to redeem Amex points for MAXIMUM value, but it requires strategy to make it work.

Since its initial release, the Apple Card has gotten a lot of attention. Although there is not an Apple Card signup bonus at the moment, you may see limited-time offers come & go to earn Daily Cash with select partners (and sometimes straight Daily Cash, usually via Credit Karma or referral links).
That said, the Apple Card is decent for ongoing cash back rewards. It earns 3% cash back at Apple, 3% at select partner retailers when you pay with Apple Pay, 2% on other purchases when you pay with Apple Pay, and 1% back on all other purchases.
It’s a good cash back credit card with no annual fee, though likely not for an all-around card. In the areas where it earns 2% cash back or better, it’s a good choice. But for nearly everything else, there are other cash back credit cards out there that can do better (for example, the Citi Custom Cash Card and the Citi Double Cash Card are excellent ones to look into, as well as the Wells Fargo Active Cash and even the PayPal credit card). Furthermore, even higher rewards can be realized with travel credit cards, even ones that work well for travel or cash back like the Chase Freedom Flex or Chase Freedom Unlimited).
The card is light on benefits, too. You can finance Apple purchases when you pay with the Apple Card and choose Apple Card Monthly Installments at checkout. You’ll still be awarded the 3% Daily Cash up front!
Perhaps the best overall feature of the card is its ease of use and transparency. You can manage everything from the Wallet app on iPhone, and the card makes it really easy to identify how much interest you’d pay if you are not able to pay off the full credit card balance (definitely strive to make full payments your goal to avoid interest, though).
There’s also a newer feature called Apple Card Family, allowing you to create a Family Sharing group to share the card and help others build credit. This feature alone makes the Apple Card one of the best credit cards for beginners. However, if you plan to apply directly rather than being added as an authorized user, it may be difficult to get as your first credit card. So, consider it as your second or third card while you’re in the earlier stages of building your credit score.

The Bilt Mastercard is a VERY unique credit card. It allows you to pay rent without the typical transaction fees while earning awards along the way (plus, even if your property only accepts checks, you can still pay with the credit card via the Bilt app; they’ll send a paper check on your behalf)!
Although it does not have a signup bonus right now, it’s power is to earn points long term that you can redeem in a lot of ways, including travel!
REGULAR REWARDS STRUCTURE
3X Dining*
2X Travel*
1X Rent Payments*
1X Other Purchases*
*Requires you to use your Bilt Credit Card at least 5 times each statement period to earn points.
However, on the 1st of each month, you can earn at an even greater rate…
- 6X Dining
- 4X Travel
- 2X Other Purchases
- 1X Rent
There are also a handful of other benefits. I plan to do a Bilt Credit Card Review video in the future to go over all the details!

https://youtu.be/Mi7xPcjDWDQ
If you have the Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card, or any other Amex credit card that has been closed, you might be surprised that it could be still open…to some extent.
While data points are still scarce, it seems that if you have an Amex credit card on file with a merchant, they might still be able to charge it even if you previously closed the account.
This could have big implications if not dealt with properly. Here are some of the red flags I see…
1. NO REWARDS get earned. Amex Membership Rewards points? Hilton Honors points? Marriott Bonvoy points? If a merchant charges your closed Amex card account for something, you will not earn any rewards. While not the end of the world, that’s definitely far from great.
2. PAPER STATEMENTS. If a closed credit card has a balance on it, it appears that American Express will only communicate that to you via paper statements. This makes you question things like mail getting lost, accidentally throwing the statement in the trash thinking it was something else (like a credit card balance transfer offer), going out of town for an extended period of time, or even having moved to a new address and not getting the mail forwarded.
3. LATE FEES. If don’t submit a credit card payment by the due date, you could be charged late fees by the bank. However, if you’re not aware of a balance due, that’s a problem.
4. ACCOUNT GOES INTO COLLECTIONS. If you have an outstanding credit card balance on a ‘closed’ account that you’re unaware of, that account could become delinquent and go into collections. From there, a negative mark on your credit report could appear, and that could affect your credit score for 7 years!
5. SECURITY. Although credit cards do come with $0 fraud liability insurance, I still think about what could happen if someone were able to use a closed Amex card account. Could they somehow use it to access an active account, and then get additional info about the cardholder?
RECOMMENDATIONS…
1. Review your prior 30-day transaction history for any monthly recurring charges before closing the Amex card in question. Move them to a different card.
2. Review your prior statements for quarterly, semi-annually, or annually recurring charges before closing the Amex card in question. Move them to a different card.
3. Review account profiles that might have the Amex card on file (hotels, airlines, online retail, etc.) and remove it.
4. Make sure Amex always has your current address.
5. Close your Amex card.
6. Consider leaving closed Amex card connected to your login.
7. Always get receipts for purchases (incl. folio statements at hotels). Check which card was used.
8. After closing the card, call Amex and request that ALL new charges be declined.

Best Travel Credit Card: I chose the Chase Sapphire Reserve because it has very strong rewards categories (at least 3X points = 4.5% return) that cover ALL travel (flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, parking, tolls, and more!). It also earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, meaning it participates in the best overall credit card rewards program available right now. It’s an extremely well-rounded card product that adds additional benefits like lounge access via Priority Pass, travel and purchase protections, high value redemptions (it can also make points earned from the Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited worth more, too), and the list goes on from there!
Best Credit Card for Lounge Access: This one was an easy win for the American Express Platinum Card. It offers the most comprehensive airport lounge access program of any credit card for which you can apply directly right now. It gets you into the Amex Centurion Lounge, Delta SkyClub, Priority Pass Lounges, Escape Lounges, Airspace Lounges, Plaza Premium Lounges, Lufthansa Lounges, and others. It also earns Amex Membership Rewards points, one of the best currencies for travel redemptions! Note: you can also combine your points with other Amex credit cards like the Amex Gold Card and the Amex Green Card.
Best Credit Card for Dining: The U.S. Bank Altitude Go card earns 4X on dining (equal to 4% cash back). That alone is incredible, and it’s also one of the best credit cards with no annual fee (which means nothing to cut into the cashback you earn)! In terms of redemption value for cash back and select travel, the 4X points on this card are more valuable than the ones earned on the Amex Gold Card!
Best Credit Card for Groceries: This category goes to the Citi Custom Cash Card. It earns 5X Citi ThankYou points (worth 5% cash back) in your Top Eligible Spend Category each billing cycle, and grocery stores is one of the eligible options (of 10 total). It also has no annual fee. You can also combine points with the likes of the Citi Premier Card and the Citi Double Cash credit card to make for a really powerful setup! Yes, the Amex Gold Card and the Amex Blue Cash Preferred Cards are also excellent, but based on how much you spend per month on groceries (and what your redemption preferences are like & your ability to use credits with some partner merchants), those may not be the best choices. So, run the numbers.
Best Credit Card for Gas: This again goes to the Citi Custom Cash card.
Best Credit Card for Online Shopping: The winner this time is the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card, which now earns 3% cash back on U.S. Online Retail Purchases, up to $6K spent per year (then 1%). It has a $0 annual fee and comes with a couple credits to use towards The Disney Bundle and Home Chef, too!
Best Credit Card for Everything Else (Best Catch All Credit Card): The Citi Double Cash card takes the trophy. It awards you 2% cash back on all purchases (1% when you buy, 1% when you pay for those purchases) without categories to keep track of, activations or enrollments, minimum redemption requirements, or minimum redemption increments. It also has no annual fee.
