Once A Grand Institution, Today Loew’s Poli Theater Is But A Shadow
There are so many abandoned buildings in this world, relics of a different past who resist the passing of time, only to witness their story. Rotting, disintegrating, or completely invaded by nature, abandoned buildings can be as eerie as they are captivating. Every such building has a lot to tell about how it got in such a condition, regardless of whether it is just an urban legend or the honest truth.
This beautiful old-school theater has been abandoned for forty years. If you love movies, you would love its classic theater holding 3,600 seats. It is a real shame no latest Hollywood smashing hits can be premiered here anymore. The reason for this is that the theater has been abandoned since 1975.
The Loew’s Poli Theatre opened in 1922 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It has multiple balconies, a grand foyer and a snack bar. It looks like a place where you might have watched a stage play. But it screened movies, and it is still one of the biggest theatres in Connecticut to this day.
Declining ticket sales forced the owners to sell the theater in 1964. It screened adult films for several years after that. It finally closed its doors permanently in 1975. The city of Bridgeport then took possession of the theater. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It has been diligently waiting for its classic splendor to be on public display again. For now, we offer a dusty look at its past.
However, at last, there are plans to revive the theater. Developers have plans in place to renovate the building. So, even though you won’t be able to see the next blockbuster there, hopefully, one day they will be screening Star Wars: Episode XV.

These Historical Villains Weren’t That Bad After All
Any history buff will tell you that history has been densely dotted with figures that are portrayed as the bad boy and gals. History has a long list of infamous villains, but as it turns out some of them may not have been as evil as they’ve been made out to be.
There’s a saying that goes “time heals all wounds”, but in this case, time has only inflated the treachery of some historical figures who textbooks have labelled as generally bad people.
We will take Benedict Arnold as an example. The man whose family helped found Rhode Island fought long and hard for the Americans leading up to and throughout the Revolutionary War as a leader in the Continental Army. His efforts foiling the British during the Battle of Lake Champlain were vital to the American side, and he was a key component in the British army’s surrender in the Battle of Saratoga.
But Benedict Arnold did have his faults, and those faults, mixed together with what he perceived to be unforgivable slights on the part of the American top brass, led to his jumping into the arms of the British. He might be what some people today call a narcissist – he was impatient, short-tempered, demanding of respect and often took to belittling those who he felt were beneath him.
Those traits, despite the many successes he had in the war effort, made him an easy character to dislike. In turn, that may have lead to his being passed over for promotions within the army and not being given the credit he actually deserved.
The moral of this story? Just don’t be a prick. And definitely don’t switch teams unless you want to be branded a ‘Benedict Arnold’.

Top 10 Outlandish Aircraft That Actually Flew
The original story behind airplanes is to make getting from point A to point B easier and more practical. The invention of airplanes is considered as one of the greater human inventions. The possibility to be able to board as many as 500 people and take them across great distances is quite the miraculous invention. Over time people have found many ways to evolve the air travelling, make it better and even Chance it so it could be used for several occasions.
Life today isn't that much different from life back in the 1980s. There is no teleportation or interstellar space travel. There are no flying cars . There are no floating cloud cities. But what we do have in abundance are those little inventions that make our lives just a bit easier: cell phones most of us can afford, longer-lasting batteries, GPS systems, high-speed internet, debit and credit cards etc.
However, every time has its own trends, technologies and inventions. Back in the ‘80 while most people were too busy putting their lipstick or blow waving their hair, a few were developing some really cool ideas. At least, they were cool in that time. Looking from this time distance, some of us might say "What a load of crap they were!"
These bizarre aircraft offered a glimpse into an unbelievable future for aviation, even if some could barely make it off the ground. If anything, these early inventions have broadened our horizons for future generations to learn from and further more build on. Quite the remarkable evolution human kind has gone through as to how far we've come today.

Ten Facts You Didn’t Know About The Deepest Place On Earth
There's a place on Earth so deep underwater it's an environment of extremes no human could survive yet other life forms manage to thrive. It is called the Challenger Deep!
It is the home to the deepest points in all the Earth’s oceans. It is located at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The Challenger Deep is 36,070 feet deep. If you put Mount Everest in it, the peak would still be 1.2 miles below sea level. The Mariana Trench was formed around 180 million years ago. The Challenger Deep was only discovered in 1875 with the use of sounding equipment. Only three people have ventured to its depths. Two of the six expeditions to the Mariana Trench used unmanned vessels.
The pressure at the bottom is over 1,000 times greater than on land. It would feel as if you were being crushed by 50 jumbo jets. The water temperature hovers between 34’ F and 39’ F. Water this cold would be unbearable for you. Vents on the floor of the trench emit highly acidic fluids. The fluids are rich in minerals and help sustain life in the area.
Hot water coming from the vents can reach 842’ F. The water doesn’t boil because of the very high pressure. The hot acidic fluids and cold water create a near toxic environment, but they also allow some new forms to thrive. It has deep-sea volcanoes seen nowhere else on Earth. These mud volcanoes could be the same as those where life on Earth first developed. These harsh conditions have surprisingly diverse life. Xenophyophores, amphipods and small sea cucumbers can all be found there.

This Village In Kenya Banned Men From Entering It
The world is full of polar opposites. We have a south vs. north, hot vs. cold, young vs. old, male vs. female. The everlasting battle between them rages on and it doesn’t look like it might end anytime soon.
The process of globalization paints a picture of a uniform world, where there is a balance between everything, but the real world is far from it. Women all over the world are still fighting for their rights to have access to education, to earn the same amount of salary, and even in some parts of the world - to get through life and not be treated like someone’s property.
There is a village in the north of Kenya in Africa where a group of women in 1990 decided to up the game by creating an all-female village where they can seek protection from the men in the surrounding areas. All of them have at least once in their lives fallen victim to men’s unwanted advances and/or their local communities’ rituals. The beliefs in these areas are that the women should be treated as property, and Umoja allows for these practices to stop.
The land is owned by the women and it’s refuge to up to 50 women and around 200 children. They are protected by a wall of thorns and their main income is the beaded jewelry they make and sell to tourists. The surrounding tribes try to sabotage their little haven but it has always been unsuccessful. This safe environment has spurred the creation of other communities like this one throughout Kenya.

Top Ten Hardest Prisons To Escape From
Criminals sometimes find themselves where they do not want to be. Some of the prisons in this country are known for being the hardest prisons to escape from. Number ten is a prison in China that has the tallest watch area in the world and sits three thousand feet above sea level. The China prison was built to hold the most dangerous criminals of the Chinese Democracy Movement.
Number nine is a prison in Syria known for prisoners not having the chance to escape and the survival is very slim. The Syria prison is located in the middle of a desert and even scary, there is only one way in and one way out. You have to crawl through an underground tunnel to enter and exit.
Number eight is the prison in Indiana with the minimal number of guards but is one of the worst prisons to try to escape from in the U.S. The prison boasts high security through fingerprint detection - there are 360 degree cameras and facial recognition, and biometric locks on each cell.
Number seven is in Japan and it houses the most dangerous criminals in Japan. No one has ever been able to escape from this Japan prison. The prison is so locked down that the details of the prison have always been kept secret.
Number six is in Massachusetts which has the most technologically enhanced security system. The security system was designed by MIT, one of the technologically advanced schools in U.S. Cameras are everywhere and monitor every move inside all day long.
Number five is Alcatraz in the U.S. which has been known for its attempt escapes. Some of the most noticeable celebrities and criminals of the U.S. such as Al Capone, Whitney Bulgar, and Rafael Miranda. There have been fourteen attempts with five escapees unaccounted for and they are presumed dead by drowning. Some escapes from Alcatraz have been investigated for decades.
Number four is in India, the oldest, largest, and most overpopulated prison in India which is known for its inhumane conditions. The cells and walls are surprisingly bomb proof, no one coming in or out.
Number three is in France which is known for its brutal and secure levels of security. It looks like a brick with carved out holes for prisons. Prisoners have attempts to escape through the sewage pipes and the pipes were closed off leading to the prisoners being suffocated.
Number two is in Cuba, known for being near impossible to escape. It is one of the most unique prisoners in the world as it sits in the middle of an American Military Base. The highest profiles criminals live here and one prisoner is watched by twelve guards.
Number one is in Colorado, known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies and is considered the most secure supermax prison in the world. Prisoners are locked into their cells for twenty three hours a day. One hour is given for leisure time.
It is a wonder why anyone would commit a crime to live in such places as the hardest prisons to escape from.

We Never Expected These Things To Be Made In China
When you hear the term “Made in China”, you probably don’t think of something high-quality, luscious and long-lasting, right? Experience has taught us that the mass produced items that come from one of the most densely populated countries in the world usually look obviously fake and don’t last long enough.
But the places in this clip look amazingly European. The bad news is they are all Chinese fakes! In an attempt to subdue their already colorful culture in order to accommodate their own tourists better, China has reproduced all sorts of landmarks from all over the world, right in her own backyard.
There is more to this architectural mimicry than one might think. At the beginning on the 90’s, China’s economy skyrocketed and her people no longer wanted to live in those dull cubes made of concrete they liked to call apartment buildings. So, they started adopting the Western style, which they associated with power and wealth.
But China didn’t just stop at copying styles and cultural landmarks, oh no. China has outdone herself by copying entire cities! Now, you can take a gondola ride along a canal in fake Venice, or make a phone call out of a red phone booth in a fake London.
All these buildings may look tres European on the outside, there is one thing that the Chinese didn’t give up for the sake of Western living. Each replica must contain a Chinese tearoom and the interiors must follow the principles of Feng Shui.
Think of it as a western hardware with a Chinese software!

Imagine Getting Stuck In The Longest Traffic Jam In The World On Your Drive Back Home
Your regular traffic jam happens to be one thing, but a gridlock of 50 lanes bumper-to-bumper, stretching ahead for 62 miles (100 kilometers) is something quite different. Such are the commuting-related risks when taking the highway in China, one of the largest and most populated countries in the world. Here congestion of traffic is not happening on highways only but reoccurs everywhere a road exists.
The worst of them all happened in 2010, on the National Highway 110. It lasted an unbelievable 12 days. Cars crawled along barely moving 0.6 miles (1km) a day. Some of the drivers literally lived in their vehicles for up to 5 days. Local people with an entrepreneurial bent sold them food and drinks at inflated prices, of course. The massive traffic jam was due to construction works on the road, compounded by a transportation network that has been over capacity for years.
To avoid the gridlock, many Chinese prefer the use of bicycles and public means of transportation. 30 minutes in a packed subway is time much better spent than three days in a crawling car, don't you agree? We can't even imagine how it feels to be stuck in a gridlock of such proportions.

These Former Olympic Venues Were Left To Unceremoniously Decay
The Olympic Games are definitely a spectacle, but the cost of hosting an event the entire world will watch comes at a huge price.
A Swiss athlete introduced a new style of jumping on this tower during the 1956 Winter Olympics The Daschler technique dominated the sport for 40 years. The tower was retired in 1990.
Built for the 1984 Winter Olympics, the Bobsleigh and Luge Track in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina was later used for World Cup competitions. When the Yugoslav wars started in 1991 the venue was turned into an artillery position. All that is left from the 1984 Winter Olympics Olympic Sports Complex in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina is one damaged Olympic symbol. This part of the sports complex even became a real graveyard.
During the 1936 Summer Olympics the Olympic village, in Berlin, Germany housed over 4,000 athletes. Shortly afterwards it was turned into barracks, first for the Germany army, later for Russian officers. Olympic swimming stadium in Berlin, Germany is one of the 1936 Summer Olympics venues that is left to rot after the Soviets withdrew from East Germany. For almost 50 years the swimming pool served as a training facility for the KGB until the fall of communism.
Not so long ago the Hellinikon Baseball Centre, in Athens Greece was a baseball diamond covered with green grass and chairs were vibrant blue, but since the 2004 Summer Olympics the venue has deteriorated into another Greek ruin. Greece spent around $9 billion to build the Olympic venues, including the Athens Olympic Aquatic Centre, in Greece. After the 2004 games the money dried up, but the pool didn’t. In 2004, for the first time in the Games’ history Greece filled the Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre, in Athens, Greece with walt water, and then abandoned it, just like the other venues of the 2004 Summer Olympics.
The 2008 Summer Olympics were the first to feature BMX racing in the Olympic program in Laoshan BMX Field, in Beijing China, but once the bikes left the venue was left to rot.
The Olympic Aquatics Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was supposed to evolve into two community swimming centers after the 2016 Summer Olympics. The plan never came to life leaving the pool to slowly decay both inside and out.

This Is The Coldest Permanently Inhabited Place On Earth
This video is incredibly interesting, especially for those who enjoy and are interested with geography and/ or weather. The video depicts what is referred to as the “coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth.” The video features Oymyakon, Russia.
The ground in this region is permanently frozen, and snow covers everything in sight. Most Americans say that they enjoy the sight of immense snow, and it is considered one of the most beautiful natural sights on the planet. However, those who do not have to live in these kinds of conditions often do not realize how taxing and how difficult it can be. Think about trying to hang your clothing out to dry if you do not own an electric dryer. What would happen? Your clothes would just freeze!
It can also be very easy to get disoriented and “turned around” in these conditions. This is because the snow coats every single surface that exists, so there are no visual landmarks for people to go on to figure out where they are. This makes these regions extremely dangerous to live in. The people who live in extreme weather conditions like these are most of the time families whose ancestors have lived there for generations. Children grow up here, and they learn how to intelligently work the land and thrive here.
Oymyakon, Russia, is a remote village located in Siberia. It is 927 km away from the nearest city. Its name comes from the Oymyakon River. This name translated means “unfrozen patch of water.” The village has endured record breaking temperatures of negative 71.2 degrees Celsius. When regions like this are located where they are on the globe, and they have these extreme weather and climates, they do not have a great deal of sunlight. In the winter, the days can even be just three hours long. That means that 21 hours of the day are spent in pitch black darkness.
It is so cold here that most electronics are actually rendered useless. This can be a major issue if you were to get lost in this region because you would not have access to any kind of GPS device.
Car engines need to be kept running at all times to keep them from freezing, but that does not prevent a population of 500 residents from living here. The grozen ground makes it difficult to grow crops for food. Because of this problem, the people here survive on a diet of mainly meat from horses, reindeer, and fish.
Tourists flock to this region, surprisingly. They are met with beautiful landscapes and hand crafted ice sculptures.

Ten Deep Sea Creatures That Seem To Come From Another World
The ocean can be a very scary place. Many people fear the ocean because of how big it is and how much about it we do not know. There can be some scary creatures down there that we have never heard of. If you are someone who is scared of the ocean, watching this video will not help you. Most people are aware of lots of ocean animals. The ones we know are usually close to the surface level and others can be seen at the beach, movies, or an aquarium. These sea animals can be jellyfish, fish, sharks, whales, dolphins, stingrays, and many more.
They can be scary, such as sharks, but most would consider them scary because they can be dangerous. The real creepy looking creatures live in the depths of the sea where there is no light. Most people do not know what is down there because we have never been down there and these creatures aren’t in aquariums. This video discusses 10 deep sea creatures that look like they come from another world. Be prepared to be creeped out and amazed!
One of the crazy creatures that live in the oceans is Chauliodus sloani. It is also known as Sloane’s viperfish. Just the name alone sounds pretty terrifying, a viperfish. Viper is a popular deadly snake and this fish looks like it can be deadly as well. It looks like it has the body of a common long fish but once its face is shown, it looks different. It has big beady eyes and giant sharp teeth. It is sure to scare anyone that comes in contact with it. Another scary fish is bathysaurus ferox, better known as deep-sea lizardfish. This actually does look like a big lizard that swims on the bottom of the ocean. It has a long thick body and some seriously sharp teeth. You would not expect these creatures to be from our world, but from a fantasy horror movie. It is amazing that they actually belong to our oceans, but in reality, we have never seen them.
One of the interesting creatures on this list is the Kiwaidae. These creatures look like crabs, but are much scarier and usually have characteristics that are different from crabs. The ones shown in this video look like a crab but with long spikes all over it. It looks as if a child wanted to draw a crab but made it much “cooler” by adding spikes to it. It looks pretty frightening and it must hurt to step on one of those! Another is the Psychrolutidae or better known as the blobfish. This is a very creepy fish because it looks like it has the face of a cartoon character. It kind of looks like the face of Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants. It looks funny but at the same time, very creepy. There are many more fish and creatures on this list. The oceans are very interesting places and these deep sea creatures definitely prove that!

We Are About To Discover Thousands Of Alien Life Forms
Did you know that the world's deepest well has been drilled 13,000 feet beneath the Antarctic ice and why? What's being found will help in the search for life in space!
Russian scientists have drilled the world’s deepest well into Lake Vostok Antarctica. They expect to discover new life forms living 13,000 feet beneath the Antarctic ice. They have already identified a new form of bacteria. A bacteria whose DNA bears no resemblance to anything else on Earth. Vostok the sixth largest lake on Earth has been covered in ice for 15 million years. Any life living there would be totally independent from the rest of the planet. And would have evolved with all sorts of adaptations we can only imagine.
Scientists originally reached the surface of Lake Vostok in 2012 but a leak of freon and kerosene contaminated the drill hole. Samples taken from the surface of the lake showed hundreds of life forms, but they couldn’t be guaranteed to be free of contamination. This forced the team to re-drill the last 1600 feet through a parallel borehole.
Vostok’s 1,300 cubic miles of freshwater is twice as pure as double distilled mineral water. The water has a temperature of 26 F but doesn’t freeze due to the pressure of the ice. Studying the lake will give us clues on how and where to look for life on other planets.
Scientists believe the most promising life forms exist where water is present. Places like Marks and Jupiter’s moon, Europa. However, space will have to wait while we continue to discover alien life on planet Earth.
