Mistakes on the Carnivore Diet
Caffeine: Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea and energy drinks. It can also be present in some supplements that you may take while on the carnivore diet.
Alcohol: Alcohol is another beverage that should be avoided at all costs while on the carnivore diet. The reason for this is simple—alcohol inhibits ketosis, which means it prevents you from burning fat as fuel and instead forces your body to use glucose (sugar) for energy production. While alcohol isn’t necessarily harmful to your health, it does have some negative effects on people who are trying to lose weight or build muscle mass on an intermittent fasting schedule such as the carnivore diet since it prevents the body from burning fat effectively.
Dairy Products: Dairy products are another food group that needs to be eliminated from your diet when following a strict Carnivore Diet protocol because they contain lactose (which is converted into sugar).
Can you eat dairy?
While it may be tempting to eat dairy, especially if you're craving that creamy goodness, it's not worth the health risks.
Dairy products are high in lactose, a sugar that many people can’t digest well. If you have trouble digesting lactose, eating dairy products will cause bloating and gas—not exactly what you want to do when trying to impress someone at dinner. Dairy also contains hormones that can increase inflammation throughout your body and even affect how your body stores fat (and no one wants to be an angry blob).
Can you have coffee on a zero-carb diet?
Coffee is a stimulant, which means it can increase your heart rate, blood pressure, and alertness. This makes it a bad choice for the carnivore diet because you want to keep your body calm and alert.
So how do we replace our morning cup o’ joe? Black tea! Black tea contains polyphenols that have been shown to have antioxidant properties (antioxidants reduce free radicals in our bodies). Plus black tea has less caffeine than coffee – about half as much – so this swap shouldn't disrupt your sleep cycle too much
Can you have alcohol on a meat-only diet?
Alcohol can cause inflammation and liver damage. And alcohol consumption has been linked to weight gain, especially when consumed with sugary mixers such as soda or juice. Alcohol also contains calories that can hinder your progress toward fat loss goals if you drink too much of it on a regular basis.

Dr Anthony Chaffee is a strict carnivore and avoids plant toxins and all fruit. He is not a fan of the ketogenic diet and prefers to eat high-fat foods that he believes are more easily digestible.

If you're interested in trying coffee as an alternative to soda or other sugary drinks, we recommend drinking it with some heavy cream.—this can make the taste much smoother for those who aren't used to strong flavours like black coffee.
What is raw milk?
Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurized. Pasteurization is a process to kill bacteria and make milk safer to drink, but it can leave some nutrients behind. Raw milk contains probiotics, which are beneficial for your immune system. The FDA has recently relaxed its policy on raw milk sales in states like California where people are able to buy unprocessed milk from local farmers directly from the farm through a vending machine or stand on site. This makes it easier for those who want to consume raw milk because now they don't have to go through a middleman—you can simply visit the farm directly!
Drink spirits on Carnivore
On Carnivore, you should use alcohol sparingly. It can lead to dehydration (which is dangerous on the diet) and is high in sugar. Avoid sweet drinks like soda pop or fruit juices; these are also very high in carbohydrates, which will make it harder for your body to burn fat.
If you do decide to drink alcohol while on Carnivore, stick with vodka & soda with no lime juice (this at least lowers the carb count). You may also want to consider low-carb beer if we’re talking about a night out with friends.
The benefit of electrolytes when starting Carnivore
The main benefit of electrolytes is they help with hydration and loss of minerals, but they also work as a natural diuretic and have many other benefits. Sea salt, for example, contains potassium and magnesium—two minerals that help with muscle contraction and relaxation. The recommended daily dose for these two minerals is 2-4g per day each; sea salt has about 2-3g per teaspoon!
I believe that starting the Carnivore Diet with a drink, such as coffee or tea, is a great way to get started on this lifestyle. Remember that you don’t need to follow the rules of someone else's diet; everyone has different needs and preferences when it comes to eating. If you prefer coffee or tea over water, then go for it! Make sure your drink contains no sugar though because this will cause insulin spikes which could disrupt ketosis if done regularly enough.

Inflammation is one of the most common health problems, but it's also one of the most misunderstood. Chronic pain and inflammation are caused by a build-up of toxins from the environment and also from what we eat.
In this interview with Sally Norton, we discussed how a certain chemical compound called Oxalates can be extremely damaging to your health and cause neurotoxicity, anxiety, arthritis and chronic pain.
Oxalates cause inflammation
Oxalates are naturally occurring compounds found in plants, including wheat and beans. They can cause inflammation, pain and kidney stones by forming crystals in the kidneys.
In addition to being a major source of oxalate for many people, legumes also contain lectins that can aggravate inflammation caused by food sensitivities or leaky gut syndrome.
Oxalates are also present in many vegetables that are believed to be healthy for us, like spinach and beets.
The only way to eliminate oxalates is to follow a low oxalate diet, or even better a Carnivore Diet. As you remove all these chemicals and nasties from your diet, your body can heal.
Why Carnivore cures pain
The carnivore diet is a zero-carb high-fat diet that has been used to cure autoimmune diseases. The carnivore diet can also cure inflammation, as well as pain and other symptoms of autoimmune disease.
Carnivores are people who eat only animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy products. They don’t eat any plant matter at all. Plants contain anti-nutrients that can be toxic to the body over time, that's why as we age we start to suffer from chronic illness and fatigue.
The carnivore diet is an effective way to treat chronic pain caused by inflammation because it eliminates all sources of carbohydrate intake that would otherwise contribute to systemic inflammation in your body. Therefore removing them from your diet will help reduce inflammation caused by autoimmunity or injury because there won't be any excess glucose floating around in your bloodstream causing distress signals on demand.
How to cure inflammation & pain
Stop eating gluten-containing grains and foods like bread, pasta, and cereal.
Stop eating sugar in any form (honey, agave nectar, etc.).
Eat lots of meat and eggs (preferably from organic sources).
Cook with butter instead of vegetable oils; this has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties as well because it's high in saturated fat, vitamin E and CLA.
If you suffer from inflammation, it is important to know what triggers it and how to cope with it. Inflammation can be dangerous if left untreated, so make sure that you do something about it before the condition worsens. Also beware of oxalate-rich foods like spinach and chard which are high in oxalic acid, which has been identified as one of the main causes of this condition.

The carnivore diet is a meat-based diet that eliminates all carbohydrates from your food intake. This means it's recommended you eat meat, poultry, fish and eggs with no vegetables, fruits or starchy carbohydrates.
This approach is similar to the ketogenic diet in that it also relies on fats for fuel, but there are some key differences: no sugar or fruit allowed! The carnivore diet was popularized by Shawn Baker and Steve Phinney in 2016 when they published their research paper “Atherosclerosis: A Potential Risk Factor For Obesity” which highlighted many benefits of this type of eating pattern.

Dr Kevin Stock wanted to know if a meat-only diet would help him build lean muscle and improve mental clarity. Kevin had done the research, and it seemed like this approach could be the best way to get lean. A lot of people have started doing it because they feel like they’re not getting results from other diets.
He also wanted to see if I could lose weight and gain muscle simultaneously. Kevin had focused on a modified keto diet focusing on lean proteins with some results - but it wasn't what he wanted to achieve.
There are several reasons you might want to try this diet. If you're looking to lose stubborn fat, gain muscle mass, or just feel more energized throughout the day, then this is definitely a good choice for you.
Another reason it's great for building muscle is that protein from animal sources like meat and eggs can help build your muscles. You also get vitamins and minerals that don't come from plants—like B12—in animal products.
You may be able to lose and gain muscle simultaneously, or ‘body recomposition’.
You can gain muscle while losing fat by increasing your calorie intake, just as you can lose fat while gaining muscle by reducing your calories.
You could have more energy throughout the day
When you are on a carnivore diet, your body is not getting any carbohydrates. As a result, your body no longer has to process carbs and can focus more on fat burning. This means that you can potentially have more energy throughout the day than you did before going zero carb.

The quality of your sleep is one of the most critical factors in overall health and well-being. It's also one of the easiest things to improve if you know what to do. Sleep hygiene refers to the habits and behaviours that help promote better sleep.
1. Get proper light exposure.
Light exposure is important for circadian rhythm, hormone regulation and melatonin production. Unfortunately, most of us don’t get enough light during the day. When your body doesn't have enough light (for example, in winter or if you're working night shifts), your circadian rhythm can become disrupted and your hormones won't be regulated properly. This can lead to poor sleep quality because melatonin levels aren't being produced as they should be at night time.
2. Create a sleep ritual.
A routine that helps you unwind before bed is called a sleep ritual. This can include taking a warm bath, reading or listening to relaxing music. If you do watch TV or use your phone before bed, try to avoid doing so within an hour of going to sleep.
- If you still cannot fall asleep after 20 minutes, get up and do something relaxing until you feel tired again.
3. Exercise regularly.
Regular exercise is a great way to improve your sleep quality and quantity. When you exercise regularly, you can have better control over stress levels and reduce the amount of time spent tossing and turning in bed. Exercise also helps keep your body healthy, which means that it will be easier for you to fall asleep at night, and stay asleep through the night as well.
4. Adjust your room temperature to a cool setting - around 65 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended for optimal sleep.
The temperature of the room you sleep in is extremely important. Ideally, the temperature should be around 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius). This is optimal for sleep and has been shown to decrease wakefulness and improve overall sleep quality. This is because when we’re sleeping, our body temperatures drop slightly—a process called “temperature homeostasis” or “thermal neutrality." If you have a temperature that doesn't match your body's needs, you'll have an increased likelihood of waking up during the night and not feeling very rested in the morning.
5. Black out the windows if possible or wear an eye mask.
If you live in a house and are not able to black out your windows, try using an eye mask. Using an eye mask will help block out the light and allow you to sleep better.
If you do not have blackout curtains, consider buying them! Blackout curtains are cheap, easy to use and can make all of the difference when trying to fall asleep at night.
6. Follow a carnivore diet or keto to promote optimal sleep patterns
Following a zero-carb or close to zero-carb diet will help with hormonal regulation, regulate blood sugars and improve insulin sensitivity. Most commonly the carnivore diet improves sleep as well as a host of other benefits including reversing autoimmune diseases, eliminating anxiety and depression and weight loss.
Sleep hygiene is a simple, useful concept that actually works for better sleep! Follow these tips, and you'll be sleeping well tonight!

How can you follow a carnivore diet on a budget?
The carnivore diet is an optimal lifestyle whether you want to detoxify, reverse autoimmune disease or achieve a fat loss goal. In our modern day, meat can be quite expensive. So I have provided you with a complete budget grocery haul for your family.
I have listed the top 10 most affordable grocery items to feed your family for cheap!
The most affordable will be ground beef. Now, especially if you are shopping at Costco or Aldi, you can find very affordable 80/20 ground beef, typically for under $5.99 per kilo. Remember to always prioritise fatty cuts of meat on the carnivore diet, as this is most satisfying.

Also, you can add eggs, bacon or even sprinkle some cheese on top of ground beef to make it extra delicious and to satisfy your family (even the fussy ones!)
Next on the list are eggs. I found 2 dozen eggs at Costco for $12.99. A pro tip with eggs is always to prioritise eating the yolks (you can even toss the whites). The egg yolks have all the nutrients including vitamins A, E, D and K.
You can make eggs in so many ways including poached, scrambled with smoked salmon, fried in butter and of course softly boiled.
Another great budget carnivore food is beef brisket. I also have a family-friendly beef brisket recipe prepared in the Sous Vide. Beef brisket can be as cheap as $10.99 per kilo. I made this for my family in Canada and it was a hit!
A pro tip with the beef brisket is to choose a cut with fat on top. This ensures when it is seared the outside is crispy with a tender pink on the inside.
Pork back ribs are another great budget option. They have a 1:1 protein ratio - very satisfying and tasty cooked in the oven.
Beef flank ribs are an alternative if you don't like pork ribs.
You can also opt for chicken on a carnivore diet. Always pick the fatty cuts like chicken thighs and drumsticks. Or even better choose the whole bird, you will have delicious leftovers for the family.
Now don't forget sausages, a staple for any carnivore breakfast. Super cheap and easy to add to beef - just read the ingredients list to avoid dextrose and fillers.
Apart from meat, you can also include dairy. Hard cheeses will be your best friend like brie cheese and blue cheese.
Finally, we can't pass up bacon, a cult favourite on the carnivore diet. The middle rasher cooks perfectly with eggs, beef, and chicken.
