Nike have dominated the performance running shoe game since the dawn of supershoes half a decade ago. However, in recent years most top running brands have been catching up. In fact, some areas I would argue other running brands are ahead in terms of shoes they have to offer. Especially in the training category, with the Adidas Prime x outclasses any training shoe Nike has to offer. Which after the Pegasus turbo 2 was discontinued are the Nike Tempo next% and the Nike Zoomfly 4. Although these shoes are good, I wouldn’t say they’re up to the standard of Nike’s racing shoes or other brands training shoes. Comment your thoughts on training shoes and what brand you think currently has the best training shoes and why.
But! This could be where things change. Nike’s biggest strength is Zoom x foam and what does the Nike zoom fly 5 have. Zoomx foam.
Insert photo of the specs:
So, what does this feature and why is this good?
Full length Zoomx Scrap. This is new to the zoomfly because in the past it has been react foam. In my eyes this is a drastic upgrade. Zoomx is Nike’s superfoam and every single shoe it was been featured in it provides the cutting edge of what makes that shoe great. It’s biggest strength in my eyes is the impact reduction it causes causing less damage to your legs. This is ideal for a training shoe. One thing to note is that the zoomx scrap is recycled from leftover recycled material or previous foams and although we haven’t tried it there is reports it’s slightly firmer.
SR-02 carrier foam has been used in the Nike Vomero 15/16 before and it is a firmer foam that provides more durability, which is what you want for a training shoe because you’ll be doing more miles than a racing shoe.
The full-length carbon plate. In an industry that Is now dominated by carbon shoes, I don’t think we really need to explain the benefits of a carbon plate. But for anyone who doesn’t know as the foam compresses the force on the carbon plate is what causes the push forward you feel in super shoes.
Updated silhouette that’s connected to the Vaporfly and Alphafly. This includes a wider forefoot and heel to provide stability and transition. This is good because it just ensures a more comfortable ride and creates a more versatile shoe. That you would be able to take more a wider variety of training paces. Because most supershoes feel uncomfortable at slower paces.
Major difference between the previous zoom fly model.
The most important difference is the zoomx foam compared to react. In my opinion that will be the difference between me choosing to buy the shoe and not buying the shoe. I’m not a fan of react foam, so the zoomx foam is a very welcoming feature in the new model.
The zoom fly 5 is not the only new model we are expecting from Nike. There is also the Pegasus turbo nature? Also featuring the zoomx scrap. So this seems to be a theme Nike like using. Truthfully for both shoes we haven’t seen any athletes testing them yet, so it is unclear on how they perform, and we haven’t seen a definitive release date for either.
Whilst we’re on the subjecting of shoes, we did a video on the best shoe rotation in 2022, so check that out here and please like, comment and subscribe on this video.

THRESHOLD WORKOUT AT ALTITUDE
This video is a threshold workout at altitude in a popular training camp destination of Font Romeu. It is 6000 feet above sea level. And for anyone who doesn't know training at altitude makes it harder due to lower oxygen concentration.
This workout features Darragh McElihinney who is a multiple Irish record holder in middle distance running, as well as the European u23 Cross Country silver medalist, behind Stanford Athletes Charles Hicks.

BOSTON MARATHON RACE REVIEW 2022
BOSTON MARATHON RACE REVIEW 2022
This is a roundup of what was a very eventful 2022 Boston marathon.
Written Boston Marathon 2022 report:
The Boston marathon is always one of the most iconic marathon majors and it’s traditionally where we get to see new team kits and some new shoes (Shalane’s Alphafly from last year). This year was no different. As we saw the major debut of the extremely underwhelming Nike kit… (Show kit) and some new super shoes! (Puma and saucony) That’s always somewhat exciting and more of a reason for me to justify spending even more money on running things I certainly don’t need.
One thing Boston always promises is extremely high calibre fields. This year was no different with; 23 runners’ sub 2:10 and 13 runners with 2:06 or under. In the Women’s race this theme continued with 7 runners 2:20 or under and Olympic gold medallist Peres Jepchirchir and Olympic bronze medallist Molly Seidel both in the field.
There’s also some outstanding prize money with consideration to running as a whole; $353,000 for both the Men’s and Women’s races.
Cj Albertson did what he is becoming known to do. Take the race from the gun, with an opening 5K of 14:55. Setting himself up for sub 2:06. With most runners not quite committing that early on.
Firstly the coverage was horrendous, I was trying to keep track of the women’s race but pretty much had to follow the live tracking on the website throughout, which to my surprise Molly Seidel wasn’t on. The Women’s first 5K was much more conservative of 17:40, which is just under 2:30 Pace
Going through 10K CJ Albertson had really set his stall out at the front, going through in 29:38, which is pretty much 2:05 flat pace…
The women went through through 10K in 34:21, Which put them closer to mid 2:20 pace rather than the slower start. From there Jepchirchir and Jepkosegei started to push the pace a lot which soon began to filter out the field.
At the half marathon point a group of 20 men went through in 63:24. With Scott Fauble going through in 64:26.
In the Women’s it was a different story with Jepkosgei, Jepchirchir and Yeshaneh breaking the field apart with 1:09:41, 39 seconds ahead of the chase group.
Between 35K and 40K Chebet won the race after dropping a staggering 13:55?! This gave Chebet a straightforward road to victory with a finishing time of 2:06:51, 30 seconds ahead of second Cherono. The fastest American on the day was Scott Fauble who actually evenly split his race running 2:08:52 the exact first and 2nd half
At some point in the 2nd Half of the race, one of the pre podium favourites Molly Seidel pulled out. However, we don’t have information for the reason of that yet.
Last 1.5 mile Yesaneh took to the front with the two leading women seeming to clip eachothers heels. But Jepchirchir decided to go with around 1500m and Yesaneh instantly started glancing behind to see what she had to do in order to maintain second. But some Bizarre turn of events Jepchirchir suddenly fatigued where the gap then closed again and Yesaneh took the lead yet again. Then Yesaneh missed her turn and was dropped 10m. Then Yesaneh caught up and went to the front. And then Jepchirchir kicked again, and then Yesaneh went into the lead again. Then Jepchirchir somehow put in another kick to pull away. This is honestly the strangest end to a race I have ever seen.
So that’s 353,000 dollars each for Chebet and Jepchirchir. Also shoutout to reed fischer on running sub 2:11. You can follow his full story on Tinman Elite’s youtube channel.
Also a Huge congratulations to Edna Kiplagat who shattered her own master’s World record running 2:21:40 at 42 years old.

THE SECRET TO GET FASTER AT RUNNING
This video is on the revolution training method Threshold training. Which is becoming a lot more common, as we see an improvement in times. It is prominent in Jakob Ingebrigtsen's training and the popular method devised by Marius Bakken can be credited to countless personal bests.
This method is extremely popular in:
Jakob Ingebrigtsens training,
kristian blummenfelts training,
and Sandre Moen's training

Longest Day Of Training *Canova Special Block*
Renato Canova is a World famous coach, who's athletes have won over 50 Olympic and World championship medals.
Canova's coaching methodology has inspired many World class coaches today, including influencing some of the training the Ingebrigtsen's do today.
I would say the special block is best for half marathon training and marathon training. But you can incorporate this training method if you're a shorter distance runner. There's even an adaptation for 800m training. For more information check out Sweat Elite training sessions workout video of this:
