Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the recent arrest of a Massachusetts man who ATF claims had 42 machine gun components. While 38 of them were illegal Glock switches, 4 of them, according to the ATF, were forced reset triggers. Three of those triggers were the Rare Breed FRT-15. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses House Resolution 95, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Duncan, R. South Carolina. If enacted into law, HR 95 would remove suppressors/silencers from the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934. Suppressors were added to the NFA in 1986. Under current law, a person who wishes to acquire and possess a silencer, must jump through several ATF channels and pay a $200 tax stamp for each NFA item. This bill would remove these items from these requirements and FFLs would treat them much the same way as they do with any other firearm you complete a Form 4473 for. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the implementation of HR 2417, an appropriations act which provided additional funding to the ATF, FBI and DOJ to significantly upgrade their NICS system AND to require the ATF to notify all local law enforcement agencies in the event that a person is either denied a purchase or is delayed. While this is not a significant change in laws for Washington residents, as RCW 9.41.114 required all Washington state FFLs to immediately notify local police in the event of a denial, this is a seismic shift for many other lawful and responsible gun owners nationwide.
