Operating the Afternoon Express Train over autumn colored mountain pass. The colors has now shifted dramaticly in the mountain pass compared to the lower parts of the country. Starting off at Voss with a slightly delayed departure due to track work between Bergen and Voss. We will pass the freight train you see leaving Voss in front of us at Mjølfjell station. This is truly my favorite time of year, it's like beeing in love all over again. Taking the Afternoon Commuter train from Bergen to Voss and Pointing out the old track layout on this trip. It's been raining for almost three weeks and the Vosso River is going over the banks at places and has swallowed the island at Seimsgrend. The pointers I've added are callouts showing where the old track layout used to be before all the smaller and larger changes of the layout was done between the opening in 1883 and present time. Today I'm taking you on a trip on the morning commuter train to Bergen with flooding. Filmed with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K equipped with a Canon 24mm 1.4 L USM II. This lense is of course wider than the 35mm catching more of the surroundings, but at the same time it will still maintain most of the "true to eye" feel of the line. The Season is over but I spotted the Nordic Hulder on the Flåm Railway before she went into hiding for the winter. The hulder is a mythical being in the Norwegian and Scandinavian folklore. She is a seductive humanoid female with a tail. The myth is pretty different from area to area, but in this part of Norway she was known to lure hunters into the ground. During the off season the Flåm Railway mainly transport cabin owners, skiers and hikers into the mountain with connection to the Bergen Line at Myrdal with four departures from Flåm each day. The last dance of the Huldra at Kjosfossen was on September 1st and I managed film that performance. From City to Suburb to the Nordic Countryside via the diverted route out of Oslo. Starting off at the hotell and going to Lodalen Depot to get the locomotive. The loco is located at Track 3 in the workshop, just where I left it off after the video "Chasing Rainbows" (https://youtu.be/e_KKKIppcyQ). There is something mysterious about this loco since it seems that there is some electronic disturbance that affects the sound quality. Anyways, going out from the Workshop and into the blind tunnel and connecting to the carriages. Push back down to Oslo S and from there we push through the City going east, through the suburb of the north-west of Oslo passing Maridalen lake and into the nordic countryside before joining back on the Bergen Line at Hønefoss. First I want to thank you guys for being so awesome as the channel reached 100K subscribers last night. I'm more or less completely speechless. I never imagine something like this when I started the channel, and yet, here we are. Thank you! Today I'm taking you guys on a trip to Oslo with the Afternoon Express from Bergen. The train is diverted over Roa on the Gjøvik line due to heavy track work between Drammen and Oslo. We divert over the Hønefoss - Roa line where we'll join in on the Gjøvik Line at Roa. Heading to Oslo and coming into the station in the opposite direction before backing the train up into the Depot in Lodalen, and parking the Loco on Track 3 in the workshop. From about Gulsvik Station you can clearly see the system we're about to enter with pretty massive and high clouds. from there and all the way to Roa we're basically chasing rainbows and trying to find that end and the pot of gold. Starting off at Esso gas station at Nyborg following E16 east and turning off at Stanghelle to drive on the old road between Stanghelle and Voss. The Voss line was moved on several places to the give space for E16, which is the main road transport belt between Oslo and Bergen. It's also considered one of the most hazardous roads in Norway due to the danger of avalanches and rock slides. A common joke is that it's safer to jump out of plane than commuting on that road. Thankfully the railway goes clear of the hazards because of the tunnels and other technical installations like warning systems. After dale we head off up into the mountains on FV314, now called FV5400 after the merging of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane into Vestland, through Bergsdalen and Hamlagrø before coming back down at Bulken. After Bulken I follow Rekvesvegen and Honvesvegen before joining back onto E16 at Kvåle before driving through Voss center. The GoPro can capture great images, but it will never be able to show the the true to eye view due do the extreme wideangle/fisheye lense it uses. I've always wanted to show how everything truly looks from the cab and now I'm finally able to do that. Here is a true to eye view of the Flåm Railway going up to Myrdal. From sea level to 866m above. It's like going through three seasons in less than an hour. Recorded on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera @ ISO 1250 with a Canon 35mm 1.4 @ f/4 the perspective of the Voss Line is very different compared to a GoPro. With this you get to see how it truly looks from the drivers cab. How steep and close those cliffs really are, and how curvy the track really is. The maximum speed between Voss and Bergen is 130kmh, which can be achieved in the tunnels only. Outside the tunnels the speed varies between 50 to 110kmh where 75 - 80kmh being covering most of the line. A GoPro can show you vast and beautiful sceneries because of it's super wide lense, but it can never show you how truly spectacular some view really are in real life. This will give you the true to eye view of the scenic Flåm Railway from Myrdal to Flåm. The mountains are so much steeper, so much closer and so much more detailed. The curves are so much tighter and the gradient looks so much steeper compared to what you can get out of a GoPro. Weather on this run is beautiful and spring is starting to really settle in the low lands. There are still huge amounts of snow in the mountains and the authorities has issued warning of potential devastating floods if weather gets really warm and rainy. The amount of snow in the mountains is the largest in sixty years. (No Narration) A deer crossing the track in front of the morning commuter train whilst the mother is on the other side. This is the time of year where we really start to see the deer all over the place. You can see the mother of last years calf in the bushes to the right as she sharply changes direction when her calf crosses the tracks. Last years calf will be shunned by the mother when she gives birth around this time. Mating season for the deer is during fall and the mother carries the calf for about 7 - 8 months before. So much of deer and so little about the train ride it self. The morning commuter trains still have very few people onboard, but we need to get those essentials to work. Narrated. A deer crossing the track in front of the morning commuter train whilst the mother is on the other side. This is the time of year where we really start to see the deer all over the place. You can see the mother of last years calf in the bushes to the right as she sharply changes direction when her calf crosses the tracks. Last years calf will be shunned by the mother when she gives birth around this time. Mating season for the deer is during fall and the mother carries the calf for about 7 - 8 months before. So much of deer and so little about the train ride it self. The morning commuter trains still have very few people onboard, but we need to get those essentials to work.
