It's spring and our after noon express is being diverted via the Gjøvik Line. The reason of this diversion on the Bergen Line today is due to trackwork between Asker and Drammen. The whole section is almost completely renewed and will increase regularity and reduce the chance of signal failures etc. This trip is a much welcome change in the usual workdays consisting of only Local service between Voss and Bergen. The massive drop in passenger due to the pandemic has us running on a minimum service where the noon and night train departures being cancelled. In this video I have included the names and length of every tunnel we go trough, as well as adding other pieces of information on curiosities along the line. I think this must be the first time I've ever operated this train during a full moon. This commute is the train most commuters take in the morning to get to Bergen. Returning from Flåm to Voss and showing you drone shots from Flåm and Driver's view to Voss. The Flåm Line is running with only 50% of it's usual departures due to the pandemic. It has affected the local businesses very hard, and the impact in an area that is based on tourism is very, very hardt. Truly hope that things will start to go back to "normal" as the vaccine is rolled out. Taking the train from Voss to Bergen through the New Tunnel on this January afternoon. The train arrived 15 minutes late to Voss. Since the load on the line is high in the afternoons the chance of making up for the lost time was virtually 0. Atleast I'm able to make sure that I don't delay the other trains further. We'll be going though the New Ulriken tunnel three times on this tirp, and I've added information at each run. If you see an increased image quality that might be because I'm testing out a Canon CN-E 24mm T1.5 cinema lens. On December 13th 2020 BaneNor opened the new Ulriken Tunnel between Bergen and Arna. This marks a new era with it being the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) drilled railway tunnel in Norway in operation to day. The track in the TBM part of the tunnel is "mounted straight into the tunnel floor". You can really hear the difference between the part that has normal ballast and the one with the solid track. The maximum speed in the tunnel is 160KM/h (100MPH). Signal wise Arna is also the first station on the Bergen Line (Hønefoss - Bergen) that is now equipped with Secondary Main Entry and Exit signals. It's also the first station on the line that has switch points equipped with swingnose crosses (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swingnose_crossing). In the tunnel itself we also now have a new block post called Skare. By installing this block post the trains can now run closer to each other in the tunnel. As well as the new "passing loop" called Arna Vest makes everything so much for flexible. It's going to get even better when the whole project is complete. The old tunnel will be closed for upgrades the next two years to get it up to par with the new standards, new track foundations, installing smoke fans and other technical equipment. When completed the "bottle neck" will finally be lifted and we can run more trains and delayed trains will not affect the other trains the same way anymore. This December afternoon we're going from Voss to Flåm. First with the Class75H and before switching to EL18 + B3 carriages at Myrdal to go down the valley to Flåm. On our way up Raundalen we do several stops on request on those small stations, these I've marked out in the chapters section. I've also named every single tunnel no matter the length, and also added names on the placing of two old halts that used to be between Reimgrend and Mjølfjell. The Flåm Railway has reduced it's departures because of the pandemic and lack of travelers. A cut of 50% going from four to two departures from Flåm each day. Limited service between Voss and Bergen, and I added dron shots from Vaksdal in the this video. The Service terminates at Vaksdal until December 13th 2020 due ot major track works between Trengereid and Bergen. Mainly they are working on connecting the new Ulriken Tunnel to the main network at Arna and in Bergen. At the same time they are also converting the train protection from D-ATC to F-ATC between Trengereid and Arna. That means we'll be survailed on all speeds as well as having the maxium line speed presented to us in the ATC-panel. YAY! Since we have some really good breaks at Vaksdal on some of the trains, I was able to fly the drone to get some shots of the train and area at Vaksdal station. Part 1 Today, Friday 13th, I'm blasting over the mountain pass with a double Stadler FLIRT Class75 Double consist. The Bergen line is was closed between Bergen and Voss on November 11th to connect the new tunnel between Bergen and Arna to the main line. With that they need to some extensive trackwork in Bergen and infrastructure changes between Trengereid and Arna. At the same time they are doing other maintenance and construction work, like new access and platforms at Evanger and Dale. The Line will open again and the old tunnel closed for upgrades on December 13th. After arriving Bergen we now return to Voss experiencing the Nordic November Sunrise with the 6:51am departure. Clouds are moving fast and you can see the mist in the hills and mountains. The weather has been very cloudy and wet for some weeks. In the state of Washington, under a near constant cover of clouds and rain is a town name... Oh, yeah, this is not Forks. And almost forgot, we're making a stop at Seimsgrend on this trip, I was like "whaaaaaaat?", someone really wants to get on here. You'll notice that I reduce the speed significantly before the stop, and this is to make sure that I'm able to stop if someone is waiting for the train. For me the Sunrise is probably the best part of this job. It's November and this is the 5am nordic dark season commuter train to Bergen. November is what I consider the darkest month of the year since we have no snow reflecting any light. Trees are stripped of leaves, and it's raining, raining and raining. A dismal time of the year west of the Mountain Pass on the Bergen Line. The famous Flåm Railway in Autumn colors and afternoon sun. October is on us and the autumn colors are everywhere. Today we're going down from Myrdal to Flåm on the afternoon departure leaving at 1545. The Flåm Railway is a 20.4km long line that goes from Flåm at sea level by the Aurland fjord and up the mountain to Myrdal station at 866m above sea level. Myrdal is the connection station for the Flåm Railway and the Bergen Line. The Flåm Railway is the steepest adhesion normal gauge railway in Northern Europe with it's gradient of 55‰ (1:18/5.5%) gradient. Because of the steep gradient and sharp curves with a readious of 130m the speed is limted to 30km/h down and 40km/h up. Some sections are even limited to 20km/h. Putting much effort into the flow and increasing the brake path and accellerating slower making sure that no one wakes up og fall out of their beds. There is just a calm over the whole thing.
