4K CABVIEW: Northern Lights over the Mountain pass
The Northern Lights over the mountain pass was pretty strong this night.
Was lucky enough to get this trip over the mountain pass with the Northern Lights showing itself in all it's glory on the trip.
Weather permitted, the chance of having perfect weather on both sides of the Mountain pass is like winning the lottery, but I would say this night was one of the better. I really can't wait until the pass is covered in white snow so the northern lights becomes even more visible as the light will reflect in the snow as well.
Thanks again to Youtube for being able to botch a upload two weeks after release... Good going...

4K CABVIEW: Northern Lights seen from the train 😮😍
First time I've seen the Northern Lights from the cab in August!
Seeing the Northern lights in August is quite rare this far south in Norway. But lately the activity has been pretty crazy with the "the lights" being visible almost every day.
On this trip we start off in Bergen where I have to pic up the train at an unusual location and move it to the terminal so it can be loaded with freight. Since this is a Sunday the freight volume is quite low. Bergen is undergoing massive changes these days as they are getting ready to couple the old, and refurbished, Ulriken tunnel to the network. At the same time they are making huge changes to the freight terminal with longer tracks, parking areas for trains and, the most important point, the possibility to depart directly from the terminal track. This will make it so much more easier and more effective. But we will still have to do the go-around on arrival so we get the loco in the correct end. Hehe.
Other moments in this video is the signalling failure between Voss and Reimegrend causing massive delays throught the network. Those delays changes where we meet trains in the opposite direction. In this case I used this chance to fill up my thermos with Covfefe at Voss.
This trip also show a really close call with a beautiful stag just after Geilo.
ENJOY!

4K CABVIEW: Aurora borealis, northern lights, visible in August! 🤩
I've never seen the Aurora Borealis in an August sky.
Sometimes nature serves you with all the majestic sights of the northern lights and wild life in just one shift.
This video consist of several parts from my latest shift where the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) was visible. A stag dodged the train with a fraction of a second to go, and there was a hare crossing the tracks at Hol Station (not part of this "short").
The best part was the Northern Lights being visible. It was like the sky was on fire, and I'm so glad my Sony FX3 was able to catch it!

4K CABVIEW: Sunny spring afternoon on the Bergen Line hauling freight
It's a sunny spring afternoon on the Bergen Line and today I'm hauling a freight train from the Terminal in Bergen to Ål, where it will be a crew change. The train will continue to Alnabru freight terminal in Oslo. Composition of the train is:
2x Bombardier TRAXX F160 AC3, 17 cars totalling 616m and 1343 tonns. Maximum speed allowed with this composition is 100km/h.
The shift starts at 5pm at the Terminal in Bergen where we assemble the tran and do the break testing before heading off. Departure time is 7:12pm and arrival at Ål is 11:08pm. This time of year it never gets really dark in Norway.
The big difference in this video compared to others I have done, is that you get to see the coupling between loco and cars and not to mention that I've swapped out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K for a Sony FX3. A huge difference when it comes to noise and visibility in the tunnels. There shalt never be darkness again.

4K CABVIEW: Nightmare conditions on the mountain!
Complete nightmare conditions on the mountain! This trip portrays some of the worst conditions I've ever faced on the mountain pass. It is on trips like this Line knowledge really comes to mean something, when you don't see anything and the signals are all covered in snow or pops out of "no where".
Arriving Geilo meeting the delayed passenger train 602 bound for Oslo kind of told me what kind of conditions I would be facing on the mountain. By the time I got there, the weather had turned worse! Faulty signalling system at Ustaoset, zero visibility and snow flying in all directions, this video surpass "Stormy winter conditions on the mountain pass (https://youtu.be/MLJQKaoPHGs)" by far!

4K CABVIEW: Sneaking my train through the neighborhood
Sneaking my train through the neighborhood in Oslo in the pale moon light.
This is the second part of my shift from the previous video: https://youtu.be/EUcS7c8YiNU
After arriving at Alnabru in the last video I have a couple of hours before I start on the trip back to Ål. This train goes via the Alna freight track between Alna and Grefsen where it joins the Gjøvik Line heading into Maridalen and Nordmarka.
When we arrive at Roa station we spur off to the Gjøvik Line and onto the Roa - Hønefoss Line where you'll se a bunch of new signals being put up. These signals are for the new signalling system called ERTMS where all optical signals will be replaced with in cab visual systems. The Roa - Hønefoss line is the test line for the new ERTMS Level 2 Baseline 3 release 2 by Alstom.
The true start of the Bergen Line is at Hønefoss where we'll be running through Hallingdalen to Ål which is at 436m above sea level.
We'll be running with the moon behind us shining up the landscape and you'll see the flashes from the overhead wire because of frost.

4K CABVIEW: Going to the freight terminal in Oslo
Today we're going to the freight terminal in Oslo, Alnabru. This is more or less a continuation of the same train as in the last video https://youtu.be/YM2sYLSMeQo
We're heading off to Alnabru freight terminal through a beautiful snowy landscape. When we're getting closer to our destination we'll be pulled over to the sides more often to date due to a problem with a critical switch point at Alnabru. Combine this with the rush of commuter trains out of Oslo, and you have the waiting game going.

4K CABVIEW: Plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass!
Finally the plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass! For each year there is less snow on the mountain pass and therefore there is less chance of videos like "Extreme winter conditions on the mountain pass" (https://youtu.be/MLJQKaoPHGs), but this year it looks like we're getting there! Finally!
We're going from sea level in Bergen over the mountain pass through Finse at 1222m above sea level. The highest point of the Bergen Line is in the Finse tunnel at 1237m above sea level. You can hear me honk like a monkey there.Finse is also the threshold for two weather systems and it’s usually here you’ll see the stark difference in the weather between western Norway and eastern Norway.I’ve added some photos to this video of the train at Mjølfjell and at Geilo. Mjølfjell and Geilo is considered the beginning and the end of the mountain pass.
And sorry about the whiteouts exiting the tunnels, it seems that the latest update to the camera has slowed it's exposure adjustment.

A short from a upcoming video it’s going to be an extremely interesting weekend on the Bergen Line mountain pass!
1
view
4K CABVIEW: Howling winds and HEAVY snow! 🌨️🌨️❄️🌬️
The roads are closed due to the howling winds and heavy snow over the mountain pass, the trains, for us it's normal service as usual. One of the huge benefits of trains are the ability to traverse areas with horrendous winds and snow due to our weight and mass.
Starting off at Ål I will run a freight train to the freight terminal in Bergen.
The moon is right behind us and it will light up the mountain landscape on our way over.
The trip traverses the mountain pass on the Bergen Line which is one of the most inhospitable environment during winter. It's cold, it's snowy and the weather can turn on you within minutes. You'll even see the stark difference from one side of the Finse tunnel to the other.
Interesting points on the trip has been marked with a ❗ in the chapters section.
Enjoy!

4K CABVIEW: From Ål to Alnabru Freight Terminal in Oslo
Today we're heading from Ål to Alnabru Freight Terminal in Oslo. This terminal is the main hub for all freight on rails in the Oslo Area. This is a particular long trip from Ål due to heaps of waiting on passing loops for westbound trains. Interesting moments in the Drammen area as I'm diverted through Sundland Depot, getting permission ot pass signals that are faulty. Later I'm diverted over the old Drammen Line between Asker and Sandvika! Yes, that means we're going OUTSIDE the tunnels this time! I'm also passing through Oslo S going up to Bryn via the Kværner loop. All of these moments has been marked in the CHAPTERS & TIMESTAMPS below with an ❗

4K CABVIEW: FREIGHT NIGHT on the Bergen Line
It's finally freight night on the Bergen Line! We're going from Ål to Bergen on this trip. In Bergen we'll be going around with Locomotive and pulling out on the Kronstad track which was part of the original Vossa Line. The Vossa Line opened in 1883 and Bergen station opened in 1913. The line was first a narrow gauge but was converted to normal gauge in 1909 with the completion of the Bergen Line. After pulling out on the Kronstad track we'll be slipping back into the freight terminal.

4K CABVIEW: The last passenger train I will drive?
The last passenger train I will drive? Maybe, it will atleast be the last one for quite some time as I after 14 years in NSB and VY decided that there was a need for change of scenery.
This video was recorded on my very last trip, but fear not, I have more recordings from earlier this year and winter that will be edited and and uploaded for you guys to see. Not only that, I'm not stopping driving trains and I will not stop recording the majestic views I see everyday at work.
This trip goes from Bergen to Voss with the last service of the day departing Bergen 3 minutes past midnight and arriving at Voss at 1:25am. It's a midsummer night and after a very dry and warm period we finally had some solid showers. The sudden change in temperature makes the tunnels warm and damp, which again means we get the piston effect. We basically make CLOUDS in the tunnels due to the pressure change when a train is in the tunnel.
