Ford Airport to Build New Traffic Control Tower, Among Other Renovations
The airport's priority is to rebuild and relocate the air traffic control tower, which is over 60 years old, according to WoodTV. Moving the tower to a different location would also allow for a new parking garage to be built, to accommodate the influx of passengers. The renovations come with a hefty price tag, though: they are estimated to total $600 million all together.

Teacher salaries in Michigan are now under the national average.
A new report finds the average salary of a teacher in the state is 64-thousand-884-dollars, which is about the same as neighboring Great Lakes states. The average starting salary for a teacher in Michigan is just under 39-thousand-dollars. The state does not have a minimum salary requirement for teachers.

Gas prices are eleven-cents a gallon higher than last week in the state.
Triple-A Michigan says the average is now three-dollars-66-cents, down six-cents from last month and four-cents higher than last year. A 15-gallon fill up costs 54-dollars on average. Michigan's highest price is three-70 in Jackson and Lansing, and the lowest price is three-57 in Traverse City and Marquette.

The Southfield Veterans Commission recognizes a 101-year-old Marine for Memorial Day.
The commission awarded Butler Martin a plaque for "dedicated service to his country". The award was part of the city's annual Memorial Day ceremony which celebrated the Montford Point Marines, the first group of African Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mayor Ken Siver ran the ceremony featuring a keynote speech from veteran Ramon Rogers.

The study finds the share in the state of ALICE households; which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed; has grown by 20-percent from 2010 to 2022. The number of households that are in poverty, however, dropped by six-percent in the same time period. Twenty-percent of all of Michigan's ALICE households received SNAP benefits from the state in 2022.

Triple-A is again launching its Tow to Go program
Starting at 6 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Tuesday, free and confidential rides are provided for anyone who needs one. The auto club says it has removed nearly 30-thousand impaired drivers from the roads in the United States over the past 25-plus years of the program. Triple-A says Tow to Go should be a last resort and people need to make plans to get home safely.

Ingham County Animal Control has removed 58 cats from an Okemos home.
They received a call from Adult Protection Services about the home after APS workers were called by neighbors of the woman who lived in the home. She voluntarily gave up the animals and the cats are going through medical evaluations. Foster homes are being sought for the cats.
Hotels in Detroit will have to post signs in their lobbies
Councilwoman Angela Whitfield-Calloway introduced the ordinance proposal in March and it passed this week. At least two human trafficking operations were busted when the NFL Draft was in Detroit last month in two suburbs.

Customers looking to order Jeep's first all-electric vehicle
The new Wagoneer S is expected to be available in the fall ahead of the all-electric Jeep Recon SUV. The Wagoneer S will feature an estimated range of 300 miles on a charge and have 600 horsepower. Jeep is comparing its performance to the discontinued Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk which was powered by a supercharged gasoline-powered Hemi engine producing over 700 horsepower. Pricing for the Wagoneer S has not been announced.

A Massive solar farm being built in Muskegon County could power 40,000 homes.
Construction has already begun for the 1,900-acre solar farm development by Consumers Energy at the Muskegon County Resource Recovery Center, the county’s wastewater plant in Moorland Township. The project is expected to cost approximately $350 million and will employ about 200 construction jobs over the next two years, with the solar facility officially operating in 2026.

He had asked for access to James and Jennifer Crumbley's pre-sentencing reports which are relevant in his appeal. The reports allegedly contain details about Ethan's home life growing up. The attorney for James Crumbley wrote Ethan could provide his legal team with those details without the reports. James and Jennifer Crumbley were sentenced to ten to 15-years in prison in separate trials on involuntary manslaughter charges. Four students were killed in the 2021 shooting at the high school north of Detroit.

The policy by Ford Motor Company requiring dealers to meet certain guidelines
The automaker is now reviewing their previous requirements for dealers to qualify for their Model E Certification program. Ford modified the requirements in November but has now recommended dealers stop any investments related to the program while they review information gathered from over one-thousand dealers. Ford has delayed a 12-billion dollar investment in EV's and expects their Model E business division to lose five-point-five billion dollars this year.

The Michigan Strategic Fund board also approved bringing people from Israel to Michigan four times instead of one this year as part of the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator program. The program was founded in 2017 to facilitate business connections between the state and Israel. The goal this year is to create four-million-dollars in economic impact.

The cyber attack on the computer system of Ascension Hospitals
Officials say some ambulances are being diverted to other hospitals for certain medical needs. Also affected are diagnostic imaging procedures and filling prescription orders. The attack was discovered on May 8th and the hospital system has switched to using manual paperwork. Ascension emergency rooms are open and accepting walk-ins but officials say they are working with EMS providers to make certain incoming patients are treated effectively.

Superintendent David Faber, who has served as superintendent since 2010, says he is retiring at the end of the 2024 to 2025 school year. Perrinton Woman Pleads Not Guilty to a Hit and Run Involving 16 People
According to ABC12, Monroe was driving while under the influence of alcohol, and pleads not guilty to the charges against her, which include two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death; two counts of failure to stop at the scene of the accident when at fault, causing death; six counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious injury; and one count of failure to stop at the scene of the accident resulting in serious impairment or death. The crash killed two individuals, left one in critical condition, and injured the other thirteen in a non-life-threatening capacity.

A Bay City Pastor has taken to living on the roof of the Great Lakes Dream Center
According to WNEM, Pastor Mary Johnson is surviving on the roof with only supplies that have been donated to the pantry of Bay City's dream center. Her goal is to draw the attention of Michiganders to the problem of homelessness, and to raise funds for the dream center "to help those that are struggling."

Police across the state are beginning their "Click It or Ticket"
The campaign is designed to save lives by reminding drivers and passengers about the importance of wearing a seatbelt in a vehicle. Statistics show that nearly 50-percent of those who died in a vehicle crash in 2022 were not wearing a seatbelt. Michigan State Police reported nearly two dozen fatal accidents over the Memorial Day weekend last year. The Click It or Ticket campaign runs through June 2nd.
