Mayor Mike Duggan says it "is the news we've been waiting for ten years." The bureau's annual population estimate puts Detroit at 633-thousand-218 residents, up from 631-thousand-366 in 2022. Duggan says over ten-thousand vacant homes have been renovated and families moved in over the past several years.

The four were pro-Palestinian protestors who were there for a November 17th protest. Their names have not been released. One is 59, two are 22, and the fourth is 25. Three were alumni and one was expected to graduate from the University of Michigan earlier this month.

The supermarket chain announced the recall on Thursday, in cooperation with Schreiber Foods, Inc., "out of an abundance of caution" due to potential salmonella contamination. Impacted products include Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread, and Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread.

The 350-acre site is called the Paw Paw River State Game Area and includes one-point-two-miles of frontage on the river. The area is mostly a floodplain forest, which the DNR says is a crucial habitat that forms where land and water ecosystems meet.

Utility work associated with a University of Michigan construction project will lead to months of lane restrictions on Huron Street near downtown Ann Arbor. Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 20, East Huron Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Glen Avenue and Fletcher Street. The university is currently constructing a new College of Pharmacy building at the corner of Huron and Glen.

Georgia-Pacific notified the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity on May 6 that it will close the plant at 951 County St. by July 6, and will lay off all employees at the location by July. The decision “ultimately came down to economics and the ability of the facility to be competitive in the long term. The company has three Michigan facilities in Albion, Owosso and Milan, with a combined 330 direct employees

They open up hosting the Rams on Sunday Night Football on September 8th. Three of their first four games are at home before an early bye in Week Five. The Lions' Thanksgiving Day matchup this year will be against the rival Chicago Bears. A Thursday Night showdown with the Packers will follow in Week 14. The Lions will close out the season hosting the Vikings.

Lauren Thompson is with Michigan State Police.(SFX) Four tornadoes hit Kalamazoo, Branch, St. Joseph, and Cass counties last Tuesday, with the largest two being EF-2 tornadoes. One that hit Portage destroyed at least 60 buildings.

The Allegan City Manager says eventually they want to remove the dam and restore the rapids that used to wash through the city but can't yet. The reason for that is the dam stops PCBs from flowing further downstream toward Lake Michigan. The million-dollars from the state is less than the city requested, so they are going back to the plans for what they will do with the money to make needed repairs.

Smith was reported missing in action on August 2, 1950 and he was declared dead on December 31, 1953. Remains were recovered in late 1950 but were unidentifiable with the technology at the time and were buried in 1956 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency disinterred the remains in 2019 to try to identify them again. Smith will be buried in Grant.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard says they are entering the United States using the Visa Waiver Program and have hit homes in several states. Authorities have arrested two crews, but several others are still operating in metro Detroit. Bouchard is telling people to not post vacation pictures until they return home and have alarms tethered to a landline.

He says another 129 buildings have major damage, meaning they will require extensive repairs or need to be demolished. Corfman says over 400 buildings had minor damage and says they don't yet have a dollar figure for the damage left by the storm. FEMA officials will be in the area starting today.

It's the second consecutive year the season tickets have sold out early. The team says they have created a waitlist for season ticket sales for 2025 and beyond. There is a 100-dollar non-refundable deposit per ticket to join the waitlist and the money will be applied to the purchase of a package. The success of the Lions meant large ticket price increases with some packages for season tickets doubling in cost. Single game tickets are scheduled to go on sale Wednesday evening.

They are needing to get several dogs adopted as soon as possible as they are preparing to move to a new facility. The Detroit General Services Department director says the Bissell Pet Foundation is covering the adoption fees. Adoptable dogs will also be at Meadowbrook Amphitheater in Rochester Hills from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 18.

Seventy-eight-year-old Isiah Williams was convicted last week according to Attorney General Dana Nessel's office. They received a request from Ann Arbor police to review the case in early 2021 and charges were brought against Williams in October 2021. The family lived in Ohio when the baby was killed and had friends and family in Michigan.

The hospital system says the network continues to be disrupted and they do not have a timeframe for when it will be restored. Many of the hospitals are diverting ambulances to other health care facilities.

The National Highway Safety Administration wants detailed information from Ford on results from a March 8th recall of Bronco Sport and Escape SUV's from 2022 and 2023 with one-point-five liter engines. Fuel injectors have cracked which allows gasoline and gas vapors near hot engine parts that could cause fires. The federal government wrote to Ford saying they want the automaker to replace defective injectors.

Prosecutor Chris Becker says the officer was seen on video entering the bathroom at 3:01 p.m. with the gun in his holster and was seen leaving the bathroom nine-minutes later and the gun was not in his holster. Two students found the gun on the toilet paper dispenser just before 4 p.m. and went to the office to report what they had found. The officer served with the sheriff's office Marine Unit and will be reassigned to an unarmed position.

Michigan’s attorney general announced charges Wednesday against a former township clerk and a lawyer who had supported attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, alleging they accessed voting systems without authorization in a search of fraud. Former Adams Township Clerk Stephanie Scott and her attorney, Stefanie Lambert, were charged with multiple felonies, including unauthorized access to a computer and using a computer to commit a crime.

Lucy’s, 1747 Plainfield Ave. NE in the Creston neighborhood, has recently placed No. 12 in a Yelp survey of the top brunch spots in America, and it was the only one in Michigan to make the list. The local restaurant was originally built as Daane’s Market, co-founded in 1959 , and later in 2016, the Vanderkooy family transformed the space into Brighton Graye’s Bistro and Little Lucy’s Cafe.

The event will be a qualifier for Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. Other qualifying events will be held in California, Cleveland, Connecticut, New York, and Washington, DC.

The district has a 25-million-dollar hole in the budget and has approved layoffs but has not said who will lose their jobs or when. Teachers, students, and community members protested and chanted "we are not the problem" last night at Ann Arbor Huron High School.

The company operates 140 health facilities and senior living centers in 19 states. In a statement the company said they immediately took action after detecting the suspicious activity, but are not certain how much information was compromised. Ascension has hired a third party expert to help in the investigation. Some of the health care systems have been interrupted as officials work to secure their information and programs. The extent of the breach on patient information is not yet known.

She was at the shelter starting in October 2022 as a stray and was adopted about a month ago. The shelter says Toffee had been adopted once before but had been returned. They thanked Toffee's new family for taking her in.
