Quick And Easy Paper Mache Easter Bunny
This Easter bunny only took a few hours, so it was a fast and easy project. Because the shapes are based on stuffed toy rabbits, there's really no way to get anything wrong. The hardest part for my old hands was getting the masking tape off the roll. 😊

DIY Art Therapy - Have Fun Sculpting a Giant's Portrait
When I get frustrated with a project that isn't going well (or just get stressed out by watching the news) I grab some clay and start playing around with it. If you promise yourself that you aren't trying to create anything that's perfect - or if you don't even intend to keep it after it's done - you can just take advantage of the therapeutic effect of messing around with clay.
I used my sculpting form to get started, but if you're looking for even easier ideas be sure to check out my book called Fast Faces: Unleash Your Creativity With a Friendly Lump of Clay, available on Amazon.com here: https://amzn.to/2DSNXfG

Painting Lady Peppy - Yes, I finished my Downton Abbey Shih Tzu 🙂
Lady Peppy, the 'Downton Abbey' version of my stepmother's Shih Tzu, is finally done.
I wasn't sure I'd finish her, but maybe I didn't like the sculpt just because I don't normally put animals in clothes. It just isn't 'me' somehow. I love the idea, and there are some wonderful examples of that type of sculpture done by other artists. But it takes time to get used to the idea...
I did change Lady Peppy before I painted her - I got rid of the silly bow on her hat and fixed her eyebrows and muzzle. Let me know what you think after you watch the video.
If I made something like this again I'd bring the collar all the way up to her chin. I think it would have been much nicer that way.
It was so much fun trying to figure out how to paint her that I ordered some new detail brushes. They aren't here yet, but I hope to learn how to use them, with some help from a few fellow YouTubers, before it's time to paint the moose I'm currently working on. He's really big, so I might not be able to get away with just splashing on a coat of moose-colored paint. :)

Painting The Hippo Wall Sculpture
I thought I would use my original hippo sculpture as the model when I painted my new hippo, but I changed my mind halfway through. The new one has more realistic eyes, and the skin around his eyes is closer to the right color. The right color matches my own hand. 😊

New Hippo Pattern for Paper Mache
I finally made a pattern for the hippo wall sculpture that you've seen behind me in many of my older YouTube videos. Most of the pieces are pretty big so it goes together fast. Don't try to leave out the back and braces, though - this pattern really needs them. It is designed as a wall sculpture, not a mask.

Lady Peppy Shih Tzu Sculpture - Lessons Learned 🐶
My mixed media sculpture of a Shih Tzu wearing a winter outfit from Downton Abbey is done (as much as it will be). 😊
I learned a lot with this project. I'm not excited about how it turned out, and I probably won't paint it, but it was still really fun to do and there are some things I learned that I'll be using in future sculptures. For instance, I'm anxious to sculpt more fur the way I did it on her ears. I don't usually spend much time sculpting the fur on my critters, but this really has me excited about it.
I'm also watching some videos for painting fur on the StudioWildlife YouTube channel. (Amazing tutorials - you have to check him out!)
To see how the basic shapes on Peppy were built, click here: https://youtu.be/tWGcllH-msE
😄 I just have to tell you that my daughter, Jessie Rasche, was featured in this month's Southwest Art Magazine. Go check it out at https://www.southwestart.com/featured/artists-to-watch-jessie-rasche
If you're interested in the string idea that worked for the horse's mane, but not for Peppy's long silky hair, watch this video: https://youtu.be/zwqaFoMmvxo

Sculpt A Shih Tzu With Clothes from Downton Abbey, Part 1
The real Peppy would never allow me to dress her in a hat and fancy blouse like Lady Edith from Downton Abbey, but I don't think she'll mind if we use her for a model. When the sculpture done she may be a tough critic, though... :)
In this, I started the portrait of Peppy, my step-mother's Shih Tzu, using my sculpting form. Of course, I altered it quite a lot to make the skull look like a dog.
Then I sculpted Peppy's face with foil, and used Magic Sculpt for the only parts of her face that will actually show after she gets her fur and clothes.
Finally, I covered her with paper mache clay, and she's now drying in front of a furnace vent.
In the next video, I'll use the crochet thread that was left over from making the mane on the horse, and give Peppy those crazy eyebrows, a mustache, and lots of fur. Then I'll dress her up like Lady Edith in a winter coat and hat.
Or should she get her clothes first, and then her fur? I haven't decided yet. 😀

New Face and Bust Sculpting Form [DIY Pattern for Mannequin Head]
Now it's even easier to sculpt portraits and characters. I added some new pieces to my face-sculpting form (mannequin head) to make it easier to sculpt a face or mask that's flat on the back, and I created new pattern pieces for the neck and shoulders. With the new pieces, you can get started even faster on your next sculpture.

Fast Panda - an Easy-Peasy Paper Mache Project
I started this easy Panda portrait at around 10 am yesterday morning, and it was done by 7 pm last night. Most of the time was spent waiting for the little panda to dry. It dried faster than usual for two reasons: There's only one layer of paper strips and paste on the paper mache panda - and it's winter so the furnace was turned on. After just a few hours in front of the furnace vent, it was dry.

Painting The Horse Sculpture
My horse now has his final coat of paint, and I'm totally in love with him. I went with a very simple way of painting him, with layers of paint from dark to light. Sculpting The Mane on the Horse Head Sculpture
I got a little carried away when I sculpted this wind-blown mane on my new horse pattern. It's a little wild and crazy, but I love the way it came out. New Pattern for a Horse Head Sculpture
I just finished this pattern for a horse head sculpture. It's made by printing the pattern pieces on paper or full-sheet labels, sticking them to cardboard, cutting out the pieces and taping them together. After that, a layer of paper mache gives you a nice surface to paint on, the mane can be added, and the horse gets some paint.

Make a Lantern Eyed "Fish Alien" Mask - With Paper Mache
My alien mask is a little weird, but the 12-year old kid next door says it's pretty cool, too. 👽🐟😄
This was a fun, easy project, and the lanternfish eyes on the mask would make it impossible to ignore, either on the street or at a party.
In the past I made a cicada mask: https://youtu.be/PYQibiUe__s
And a murder hornet mask: https://youtu.be/qW-zawMf-fo
Don't tell anyone, but I intended to make a mask of that deep-sea fish with a mouth full of needle-like teeth and a lighted thingy dangling on a pole in front of him. It would have been a very scary mask, but for an older crowd into all things weird, it would be a lot of fun. They're also called lanternfish occasionally, but their real name is anglerfish.
Then I saw photos of the lanternfish, with his huge lighted eyes, and I knew I had to make a mask like that, instead.

Lighted Halloween Skulls - Easy Paper Mache Project
I really didn't like the 'clown skulls' I made in the last video, so I repainted them and put tiny LED lights in the skull's eye sockets. I saw a lot of people doing this when I searched for decorated Halloween skulls, and I thought it would be a great way to use up the extra LED lights I had on hand.
Painting them as Day of the Dead skulls would have worked great, too - but I just don't have enough patience to paint those decorations on my skulls. I keep telling you guys I'm lazy!

Halloween Clown Skulls - Cute, or Total Fail?
😜 OK, these clown skulls weren't my greatest idea, but maybe you can think of a way to make them work a little better. I have to admit that I was pretty impressed by how well the crackle effect worked - with just a coat of white acrylic paint brushed over wet Elmer's glue. I might end up using that again, someday.
And I did like the skulls before painting the clown faces on them, and I can paint them again so they weren't a total loss. :)
If you want to make more realistic skulls, you might be able to find some Styrofoam skulls at Walmart or your local craft store, and cover them with a thin layer of paper mache clay. If you'd like to use my skull-shaped face sculpting form, you can find the pattern and videos here: https://www.ultimatepapermache.com/face-sculpting-form

Turn a Drawing into a Paper Mache Sculpture
My daughter recently made a fast watercolor painting of a green alien for her YouTube channel. She agreed to let me use it to show you how much fun it can be to turn a drawing into a paper mache sculpture.
This would be a perfect project for a child's drawing, if the shapes are simple enough, and it would be a wonderful gift for grandma and grandpa next Christmas. 😀

How To Make A Paper Mache Mouse
This little mouse was easy and fast to make. My little mouse gave me an excuse to use the "bun foot" that I found in the closet. It's also a great project for showing you how to use a cardboard pattern inside a really small sculpture.
I think it may be faster to make an armature with a pattern inside, like I did this time, instead of with wire. Try making it this way and let me know what you think. (I used wire armatures inside all the tiny dogs in my tiny dog book, so that method works, too. :) )

How To Make Paper Mache Feathers
In the video above I show how I did some experiments to learn how to make paper mache feathers.
One of the experiments worked beautifully, but the other one didn't. The video shows you why.
I can think of tons of different ways to use these feathers in addition to paper mache bird sculptures. Perhaps a copy of an ancient warrior helmet with hawk or eagle feathers on top. If the quill is made extra-long, they could be used in dried flower arrangements. One of them might make a nice bookmark. Tiny ones would make interesting ear rings, although I'm not sure how long they'd last.
If you're thinking of using the feathers in a costume of some kind, remember that those wires will really hurt if someone trips, so don't put them anywhere near your eyes.

Self-Published Authors - Has Your Book Been Stolen? [Pirated Books On Amazon]
Yes, it's true - there are a lot of pirated books on Amazon.com. The copyright infringement form can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/report/infringement
The form asks if you bought the stolen work to make sure it's a pirated work, and I did that the first time. But since then I just say I didn't buy it, because you can tell that it's stolen content by using their search inside the book feature.
And they do take the stolen books off their site within a few days of receiving the form. Unfortunately, the bad guys will just put it back on Amazon in a week or two, so you have to keep checking, and filling out the form.
In case you'd like to know what the covers of my actual, real books look like, here are the links to them on amazon:

Fox Mask Pattern for Paper Mache [Make a Fox Mask]
I just finished the instructions to go with my new Fox Mask pattern. I'm really happy with this one, because the pattern goes together really fast, and it's easy to paint.
The pattern comes with pieces for the cap that turns it into a helmet mask, or use the pattern pieces that create a flat back so you can put him on your wall. There are over 50 photos that go with the instructions, including directions for adding Styrofoam balls for eyes if you're making a wall sculpture.
You can find the pattern at https://www.UltimatePaperMache.com/fox-mask

How to Make a Silicone Mold for Paper Mache [For Etsy Sellers and Plays]
Costume designers and Etsy sellers - Do you may need multiple copies of your paper mache sculptures and masks? It's easy to make silicone molds for paper mache with Rebound 25.
In the video above I go through everything you need to do: getting your clay model ready for the mold, brushing on the silicone, and then creating your first copy with paper strips and Titebond II wood glue.
I have some screen shots on my website if you prefer to read the instructions for making the silicone molds instead of watching the video. You can find that post here: https://www.ultimatepapermache.com/how-to-make-a-silicone-mold-for-paper-mache
I made this video especially for folks who need to make a lot of paper mache copies of a clay model, and they want to use products that are especially made for creating silicone molds.
There are videos online that show how to make cheaper molds using silicone caulking, but I've tried all those recipes and none of them come close to the quality you can get with the Rebound 25.
I buy the product in the larger size because I create clay models for all of the patterns I make for the masks and wall sculptures behind me in the video. The silicone will last for a very long time if you keep the lids on tight.
But if you only need one mold, they sell the product in smaller quantities, too. It isn't cheap, but I never use anything else for my molds.
BTW, if you're looking for Lion King mask patterns, or just want to check out the critters behind me in the video, go to https://www.ultimatepapermache.com/patterns

Sculpt a Grinning Baby Bonobo with WED Clay
My WED clay model of a baby bonobo is almost done. I'll make a few corrections before the next video (that nose really is crooked!) and then I'll finish him so I can display the final version on my bathroom wall. I just did some major work in my little bathroom, and this cheerful little fellow is my way to celebrate getting it done. (I should have done the work six years ago, but better late than never, right? 😄 )
BTW, my dad thinks it's a little rude to put a grinning ape in the bathroom. Is that a guy thing? 😄
If I make the final sculpture of the grinning bonobo the same way the Gorilla mask was made, I won't put any fine details into the clay model of the baby bonobo. It would just be covered up by the plaster cloth and paper mache that goes on top of the clay.
On the other hand, if I make a silicone mold instead, I'll go ahead and add the teeth and other details in the clay itself, because the details will be captured in the casting.
Let me know how you'd like to see me finish the sculpture in the comment section below. I'll read your comments and make my decision before I post the next video.
