The Sudanese RSF (Rapid Support Forces) have been fighting the Sudanese Army for control for quite some time now. This is the first time that they have shot down a jet. There was a rumor that the Wagner Group has been training the RSF and supplied them with MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense's). The "shootdown" of a Sudanese Air Force plane (Possibly a Chinese FTC-2000 or K-8 due to the two parachutes) indicates that the RSF has a new capability and it is possible that the rumor about Wagner is true. If you can't gain fire superiority over the enemy, then it would be wise to "Break Contact." This is usually done by throwing smoke to obscure the retreat and then leapfrogging back with one team covering and firing, and the other team running back. Then the team that ran sets up and covers the first team. The unit keeps leapfrogging back until the unit is no longer in contact. So there should me more deformation than a little hole. The common arguments about the effectiveness of the Patriot are twofold. The first is that the Patriot performed poorly during Operation Desert Storm. There is some truth to this, but it has more to do with the nature of first-generation Patriot missiles having proximity warheads than the effectiveness of the system. The Patriots were hitting, but they just weren't killing because at Mach 10, even explosions take time to form, and the incoming SCUD missile often passed the code of Patriot shrapnel by the time it fully expanded. The second argument is that Patriots can't shoot down Hypersonic Missiles - but the problem with that line of thinking is that TMBs (Theater Ballistic Missiles) are already hypersonic - meaning that they travel over Mach 5. So killing Hypersonic Cruise missiles may not be that difficult for the Patriot, although it is made harder if the cruise missile his hypersonic and maneuvering. Phase 2: Preparation - Front line trenches will get serviced with mortars and artillery. Fallback trenches, reserves and headquarters elements will likely get hit with long range artillery. Rear line supply and combat service support will likely get hit with precision artillery. Phase 3: Breaching - An engineering vehicle will likely fire a MICLIC or Mine Clearing Line Charge over top of the Russian protective defensive minefield. It is also likely that RAAM artillery delivered anti-armor mines will be dropped on the flanks of the breach to disrupt or delay counterattack. Phase 4: Assault - Infantry and engineers will advance into the breach with drones as ISR support. It is likely that units engaged in the breach may suffer up to 50% casualties. Phase 5: Consolidate and Reorganize - Breaching forces are likely "red" or "below 50%" on personnel, ammunition and water. Casualties are collected and prisoners of war are searched. Phase 6: The engineering vehicle is likely to bulldoze the trench in, creating a bridge for follow-on forces to continue the attack. The wounded and prisoners are evacuated. Developing an all-electric tactical vehicle fleet would not be feasible by 2030, although GSA Vehicles (vans/busses/light duty pickup trucks) may benefit from electrification and some tactical hybrids such as the Abrams X could save on fuel.
