What does the Army Term “Break Contact” mean?

"Contact" happens when you encounter the enemy. If you can't gain fire superiority over the enemy, then it would be wise to "Break Contact."

This is usually done by throwing smoke to obscure the retreat and then leapfrogging back with one team covering and firing, and the other team running back. Then the team that ran sets up and covers the first team. The unit keeps leapfrogging back until the unit is no longer in contact.
