What businesses should do versus what they do.
Shots fired… 🧨
Not taking anything about from companies who have done extremely well to raise capital as mentioned here, but I want to live in a world where we simply do better.
The user experience needs to be here are the targets, here are the compelling reasons why, here are the channels, here is the creative that will sell that customised story and make it real for them.
NOT, what we currently have which is here is the data that you need a team to pull through and make likely assumptions, then sit with a creative team, then action.
BUT, go further IF we utilised top down targeting as a complete unit, even without push button recommendations -> outcomes, we could also mitigate downstream churn from the outside and decipher best and worst fits in advance, without sales, marketing, and customer success running in opposite directions.
I wanna live in a world, where we have streamlined approaches that set the business for success.. and do so with simplicity.. don’t you?

This is exactly what happened.

Here is how.
Once you get your head around that, as stated in part 1, it doesn’t matter if its B2B or B2C.
Commercialisation for all, just tilt snd shift where the #CommercialAccessGates are to get you one to many.

Instead of having perfect top down targeting revenue plans for end to end service delivery for one persona at Company B, one at a time. (Good but not great)
How about, selling to more of those Company B’s personas in one go… (Let’s try operate from great)

It doesn’t need to be.

For those of your that unequivocally recognise the ease of use I am suggesting here, YES this is co-dependent on being in an organisation, where you CAN play outside the box. Aka, marketing and bid, either help you with this, or you are ALLOWED to do this.
MANY that know my story, know I found it easier to ask for forgiveness after I had the contracts than it was to ask for permission to change a large wheel turning ship’s Go To Market strategy (in whole).
BUT, what did this indirectly show me? = Marketing weren’t creating the right targeting, revenue top down plan, or educational content to service demand. Bid were making proposals, that were being rejected as they were lost in translation.

Marketing is, what sales isn't
The markets perception, ties marketing actions to sales led growth, and No intent lead gen as the only form of marketing...
As we know, thats fundamentally flawed, as that is exactly what marketing should NOT be doing.
It comes down to positional awareness, and I hate to say it, but business acumen...
But getting the targeting right, the channels right, the compelling reason right, the content thats going to make it real for them... is marketing.
Closing the educated - created demand, is sales.
And then leading them through a buyer centric motion is sales.
Upselling, cross selling, opportunity spotting is sales.
We can probably dig out my posts and videos from 2016, 2017 where I was saying, the future of business will be a hybrid more senior person between demand marketing, at account level, with new business actions, to meet in the buying cycle, and then mutually tied agreeables for fruitful relationships for customer success.
But unfortunately as we know most of the time, that isn't what takes place in today's world.
But it should.
