Synopsis:
Back-to-school season is apparently also back-to-charging season because we’ve seen a real uptick in EV charging brands reaching out to our channel. Over the next few weeks (maybe months?!) we’ll be sprinkling in various installation & review videos to hopefully educate consumers regarding the 3rd party market. Check out our EV Charging playlist to see if any of the brands show up on your wish list.
AutoBot peaked our interest for a few reasons: 1) The brand name is not a string of random capitalized letters on Amazon, 2) Customer support is well-reviewed, 3) the unit advertised over-the-air updates, 4) low price @ $300, 5) a non-app version is available, and 6) the unit advertises a full 48-amp charging rate. For those looking for a cheap, simple, reliable charging option without your phone, we think this could be a great option for you.
Installation was straightforward and the components seem to be quality. We'll keep you posted if anything goes awry! Laced within the technical instruction are recommendations and points of professionalism employed daily by Jefferson Electric masters, journeymen, & apprentices.

Joel (and the whole crew at Jefferson Electric) has fallen in love with Leviton’s electrical panel… almost romantically. And what’s not to love: Top-of-market breakers, knockouts EVERYWHERE, compatible as a standard or smart panel, and the list could go on.
Today we get to install the beastly 66-space version in a home with very overdue, very dicey previous conditions. To say it was “over-crowded” would be an understatement, and we’ll show you why! If you’re thinking about a service upgrade, we’d love to show you how it ought to be done.

Any ground issues here?... Ah, yeah. Improper connections, wire path, and color-coding make this a 100% bonafide HACKJOB! For those attempting their own electrical work, remember to:
1. Keep wire behind the finished surface
2. Use 1 continuous length of wire whenever possible
3. Use wire nuts or lever nuts whenever securing 2 or more wires together
4. Use green-insulated or bare copper wires for grounding purposes

How many code violations can you spot in this disconnect? We found:
Upside-Down Breaker [NEC 240.33 & 240.81]
Missing Bonding Bushing On The Lower Conduit Entry [NEC 250.92 & 408.3(C)]
No Interior Dead Front [NEC 110.27(A)]
Improper Termination Labels [NEC 200.6 & 210.5(C)]
Indiana is only responsible for NEC 2008, but we’re always working to keep ourselves educated on the latest edition as well! Let us know if you notice any others!

Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
What is this and why might an electrician need it? Expansion fittings are critical for electrical conduit work in a temperate climate. Wide temperature fluctuations cause PVC to expand and contract to the degree of 1” per 10’. To keep joints from disconnecting or breaking completely, expansion fittings use telescoping lengths of PVC and an O-ring to allow conduit movement without breakage.

Our 1st SPAN Panel Install - Part 3
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
Out with the old, in with the new! The SPAN panel is taller and (significantly) heavier than a normal panel, and has a thorough software commissioning stage of installation that is (obviously) not standard for other panels, so this made things a challenge. Thankfully, SPAN has excellent training and customer service to tap into, which allowed us to get this project wrapped up (mostly). Here’s what went smoothly and not so smoothly in our maiden install.

Our 1st SPAN Panel Install - Part 2
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
With testing and pre-fab complete, we can now turn our attention to labeling and unlanding circuits from the old panel, unmounting it, and making room for the taller SPAN panel. This part of the job always requires patience, as retaining labels is a much better use of time than figuring them out after losing them! Stay tuned for the final installation and commissioning.

Our 1st SPAN Panel Install - Part 1
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
Through our partnership with Tesla we’ve also been introduced to SPAN. SPAN is a smart panel company founded by former Tesla execs with well-designed features in the realm of secondary & off-grid power systems. While a SPAN panel is not for everyone, we would highly recommend it for anyone investing in solar and/or battery storage.
While the SPAN panel is a beautiful and well-planned piece of hardware, it does have some quirks that we’ll point out in this video as we open it up and prepare to swap it in for a previously installed “dumb” panel.
Laced within the technical instruction are recommendations and points of professionalism employed daily by Jefferson Electric masters, journeymen, & apprentices.
