An Electrical Panel Installation, But Sexier
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
The new Leviton smart panel is a beauty. Not only is it a clean white, but it offers financial flexibility through the standard or smart package, a metal or glass cover (classy & necessary for wifi signals), plug-on neutral bars, and one-time breaker terminations for simple replacement.
This installation is sponsored by…integrity. When our solar projections didn’t pan out for a customer, we had to find a way to make things right. This is a video of technical instruction as well as recommendations and points of professionalism employed daily by Jefferson Electric masters, journeymen, & apprentices.

What do you get when you put 2 jumbo batteries, 5 solar panels, an inverter, and a charge controller on wheels? This RV, that’s what! Can I Install An Outlet Outside?
#Shorts
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Can I install an electrical outlet outside? Yes, but with some key inclusions: Be sure the outlet receptacle (or breaker) is GFCI-protected, weather-resistant, & tamper-resistant. Finally, be sure that the electrical box and its cover are rain-tight. Here’s what we’d recommend:

Can You Replace A 2-Prong Outlet With A 3-Prong?
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
GFCI Protection emerged in the NEC in 1971 and has steadily increased in prevalence every update since. Did you know that a GFCI receptacle can be used where a ground is not present? Though this is not technically “grounding” the receptacle, it is adding a different & significant degree of safety while also improving convenience of accessibility for 3-pronged appliances in the home. In fact, this is the only time when a 2-prong receptacle is allowed to be replaced with a 3-prong. Joel needs to perform this update on his own home, so he figured he’d bring y’all along. Enjoy!

This Metal Block Fixes A Common Electrical Panel Problem
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
If you’re a homeowner looking to sell, or a beginner electrician finishing a job, a very common place to fail the electrical portion of an inspection is in “separation of grounds and neutrals after the 1st disconnecting means”. This video will simply and practically show what’s wrong and how to make it right. While we don't recommend homeowners correct this themselves, we hope this video provides a thorough overview with which to understand a quality electrician's work.

This Pool House Has More Power Than Your House
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
Your house probably has a 100- or 200-amp service. This one has 600 amps…and it’s just the pool house! Our work on this particular day was a culmination of many months of energy and neighborhood bureaucracy. Who knew electrical work could be so dramatic!?
With most (but not all) of the drama behind us, our job today was simply to install 3 200-amp, fused disconnects to the back of the structure. Enjoy!

What if I break something on the job? The trades are notorious for having an unpredictable work day; sometimes because of what we find, sometimes because of what we create. At EPRO we believe that integrity before a customer can include an uncomfortable conversation from time to time. Here’s how to handle honest mistakes the best way.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) For Our New ONWOTE 4K Security Camera System
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
The new EPRO HQ is definitely in a safer part of town, but we’re not just going to rest on our laurels just yet! In our hour of need, ONWOTE (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZCLZT8D?maas=maas_adg_CF16A2253137FD52116004FBCB5EE02C_afap_abs&ref_=aa_maas&tag=maas) gave us a security camera system so that we could monitor the warehouse and the parking lot when we’re out.
This also offered us an excellent opportunity to share the process for PoE, or Power Over Ethernet, systems. Given the fact that a video camera system already needs to share information (and a lot of it, at that!) an ethernet wire run is the best option UNLESS we would need to run more wire for power. Thanks to PoE, our Network Video Recorder (NVR) can send power out to the cameras and they can send data back with just one wire run.
While our install will have some commercial add-ons, starting with thousands more feet of Cat5 cable, this should show you what you need to see if you’d like a robust security system at your home. Laced within the technical instruction are recommendations and points of professionalism employed daily by Jefferson Electric masters, journeymen, & apprentices.
If the instruction in this video is unclear or skew to what you are searching for, feel free to comment below for additional assistance.

What Does "High Voltage" Make You Think Of?
#Shorts
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Electricians consider “high voltage” anything greater than 120V, but lineman have a bit of a different scale... These guys literally can’t work on a dead power line because it will electrocute them anyway! Check out what this lineman shared with us on a job site recently.

Live Off-Grid 4X Longer
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
We’re very excited to share an Off-Grid project with you all!
Automotive electrical & electrical storage are both fairly new to Jefferson Electric. If that’s true for you too, here’s some helpful background: While you probably know that the automotive tasks of an RV run on a lead-acid battery, like any ICE car, you may not know that another lead-acid battery system is responsible for the living tasks, such as operating lights, AC, or the microwave while parked in the wilderness.
Lead-acid batteries, however, have major limitations, including environmental-unfriendliness, limited power capacity & output, & temperature & lifetime issues. So just like electric cars and consumer electronics, a lithium ion upgrade is in order. This video has the “why” and “how”.

Basement Transformation: Dungeon To De-Light
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
The two main reasons why basements tend to have an unpleasant atmosphere are 1) too much water or 2) not enough light. While we’re only specialists in the latter option, we’d like to show you how far a couple more lights can go to making a basement an inviting place without breaking the bank, compromising headroom, or cluttering a space. On top of all that, electricians celebrate a job like this: Great customer relationships, cool indoor working space on a hot summer day, straightforward scope of work, and no crawl-space!

When An Electrical Job Goes Sideways
Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
Synopsis:
We received a word-of-mouth request that a friend of a friend was facing tough times financially and needed some pretty serious home electrical remediation. We didn’t realize HOW serious that remediation was until we showed up to help several days later. What we assumed was going to be a light whole-home inspect-&-correct quickly turned into an electrical panel resuscitation! In the face of a rat’s nest of electrical madness, here’s how Joel prioritized the problems and tackled solutions.
Laced within the technical instruction are recommendations and points of professionalism employed daily by Jefferson Electric masters, journeymen, & apprentices.

I Hate Being Called The CEO

Electric Pro Academy - Real skills to make real money.
I hate being called the CEO. Yes, it is my title and my role at Jefferson Electric, and yes, I do enjoy many of the big-picture, visionary, high-paced tasks associated with my role, but for all those electricians out there who are wondering what it’s like to go off on your own, please do the work well while remembering your roots fondly.
