About this video: ABSCOND: Where Are My Bees? Green NUC makes break for it!
I guess I finally chased them off with my poor beekeeping. The new Queen and the girls in the green hove made a break for it and absconded. The good news however is that after three days they all flew back to the BugFarmewr and moved right back in to the little Green NUC. What and adventure!
About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this channel as well as videos from creators I have listed below. This is my third season as a beekeeper and everything I have learned came from YouTube and mostly from the channels listed below.
Although this channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than bees with this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
A little about you:
Please reach out in the comments and tell me what you're up too and how I could do things better. You may have experience doing what it is I am attempting to do and you knowledge and experience could be very helpful to me. Remember, I try all sorts of thing but I am not always successful. ...but I still try. :-)
I hope you find my videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!
Here are a couple of the people who I follow and consider virtual mentors. These channels will help you in your beekeeping journey and show you many ways to make your beekeeping adventure an exciting one.

A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

Red Surprise - The red hive throws me a curve ball while resolving the issue once and for all.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In this video the Red beehive throws me a curve ball as I perform the final inspection before implementing my solution to the laying worker bees in the hive.; The laying workers have been plaguing this hive for over a month and the Navy queen we put in this box disappeared after just a week. If today's inspection goes well the goal is to move the entire 8 frames from the Teal resource hive into the bottom of the read hive and then move the remaining red bees to the back bench. This should allow only the active worker bees back into the hive. Fingers are crossed! I will also be sizing up the hives for the harvest. I may leave a lot of honey on the hives this year for the upcoming dearth.

Flow Hive Laying Worker - It is happening again but I may have caught it just in time.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In this video we will check a few of the boxes that were queen-less last week and check the status of the flow hive where I will get an unwanted surprise. This has been the year of queen-less hives and laying workers for me. Whatever the reason, it has impacted my honey harvest and hive growth. Is 2021 over yet?

Is Pesticide Killing My Bees? The White hive may have been poisoned.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In this video we will look at the White hive. There are thousands of dead bees on the ground in front of the hive and the bees seem to be shaking. The one big fear I have always had is that my bees would get into a crop that has been sprayed and I think it may have happened. I am loosing thousands of bees. We will dig into the hive and try to determine if the hive looks healthy or if it is too late for the white hive.

About this video:
In this video I will share a story of mishap, things gone wrong, and creative solutions. I thought my spring splits all went well and the only beehives with issues lived on the back bench. In this video we discover the beehives on the front row have issues of their own. The Little Green NUC - The bad luck blue NUC has been retired.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
This week will will be inspecting the Little Blue (green) NUC to look for the queen, or, to look for evidence of the bees in the little Green NUC making a new queen. After we determine the status if the little green NUC we will be rotating the boxes of the yellow hive to get the queen in the bottom box.
Please take a moment to visit Sweetest Stings Apiary( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCznza3CnSMUnIo8n0mLiAtw ) and Pine City Apiary ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWJx2QNx9ZTb3KsP2RcDm6Q ) . They have been a great help to me this week.

Beekeeping is about problem solving. Bees do what bees do and beekeepers just assist.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In this video we will be checking on the status of the split hives. We will look for the queen in the resource hives, the little Blue NUC, and the Navy hive with the missing queen. I hope all works out and we find the missing Navy queen. We will also look closely at the Little Blue NUC to check the status of the JUNO bees that we added to the Blue NUC last week. It would be wonderful if the queen started laying or if the bees chose to replace her with the JUNO eggs. This is backyard beekeeping. Problems and solutions. It is always about problems and solutions. Thank you for taking time to join our journey.

BAD DECISIONS | One hive, One Split, Two Swarms, and NO QUEEN - My bad decisions catch up with me.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
it all started with a split, then a swarm, then another swarm. In this video a string of bad decisions catch up with me as I try to find my way through a crisis of my own making.
This video is an exercise in chaos beekeeping. In this video I'm faced with some first time decisions as the blue hive decides to swarm for the second time in a week after being split into the green hive two weeks ago. I also face a dilemma with the walk-away split I did last week. It seems that the queen cells I put in the box from the teal hive and carried to the pine resource hive had been stabbed by the virgin queen and the queens inside killed. Which means I essentially brought a queen-less box of bees to the bee yard. A lot of lessons to be learned in this one.

About this video:
In today's video we will be adding the queen excluders to all of the hives and preparing for the spring nectar flow. The hives are all packed due to overwintering with beehive heaters and the bees are ready to forage. The nectar flow has started and the girls are actually finding nectar and bringing it back to the hives. My memory stick ran out of space so the last three hives were not filmed but they got the same treatment as the other hives. Have a great day and welcome to springtime beekeeping.

Is the Flow Hive / Flow Hive 2 worth it? My opinion on the Flow Hive vs. Langstroth
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In this video I will be answering the most common question I receive in the comments: What is your opinion on the Flow Hive or the Flow Hive 2? This is a tricky question but I will try to answer it honestly and give new beekeepers some insight to the pros and cons of starting beekeeping with the flow hive. The flow hive, created by Stewart and Ceder Anderson is the most innovative thing to happen in beekeeping since Langstroth invented the hive with his name on it 150 years ago. I hope this video answers your questions and helps you decide to become a beekeeper with or without the Flow Hive. The Flow Hive and Flow Hive 2 are expensive and a very costly way to begin beekeeping (trust me I know) but if this is what it takes to make you become a bee keeper then by all means have at it and buy a flow hive. If you are dead set on getting one but you don't want to spend 1,000.00 then watch my "6 Flow Hive Hacks" video where I will show you how to build a Flow Hive 2 for under 400.00. I hope you fins this information useful.

About this video:
Walk-away Split | Time to split the Teal hive and close the loop on the Chicken coop. Today we will be doing a walk-away split on the Teal hive to prevent her from swarming. If you listen closely during the split you can hear the new Teal queen piping as she looks for a rival queen to remove from the hive. Walk away splits don't usually include finding a queen but this walk-away split did. After the split we will have a look at the chicken coop and the new chicken additions to the Bug Farmer homestead.

April Splits | Splitting my hives before they swarm. Sorry for the editing error at the end.
About this video:
In this video we will be splitting beehives before we get to deep into swarm season. This year I want to keep as many of my bees as possible bringing in nectar and proactively prevent swarming. The best way to do that is to split the beehives before they have the opportunity to split themselves. At least that way I can control how many bees I remove from each hive. Unfortunately, we run into problems along the way and face unexpected challenges.

Split a hive to stop a swarm. - The hunt for the Teal Queen results in a change of plans.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
After moving the queen into the bottom box last week all I can think about is the Teal hive swarming. There were a lot of bees in the teal hive and I saw several queen cups in the medium super but I never went down into the brood chamber. Today, I will be going into the brood chamber on the hunt for the queen. If I find her I will move her to the primary bee yard into the blue NUC and let the Teal hive make a new queen.

Queen Excluder -- Adding the queen excluder to the hive and stacking supers. Springtime beekeeping.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
In today's video we will be adding the queen excluders to all of the hives and preparing for the spring nectar flow. The hives are all packed due to overwintering with beehive heaters and the bees are ready to forage. The nectar flow has started and the girls are actually finding nectar and bringing it back to the hives. My memory stick ran out of space so the last three hives were not filmed but they got the same treatment as the other hives. Have a great day and welcome to springtime beekeeping.

About this video: Brood Space - Is a single 8 frame deep hive enough space to use as a brood chamber? Let's do the math.
In this video I do the math to see if it is possible to use only an 8 frame deep hive body as a brood chamber instead of using a deep and a medium or two deeps. I have seen this done in the 10 frame world but never really knew if it would be possible in the 8 frame world. I hope this doesn't lead to a massive swarm season like last year but there is only one way to find out. After all, I have done the math so it should work.
