In this video, I will show you how to build a beehive stand out of one board. A 2x6x8 board can be purchased for about $8.00 from any building supply store and turned into this nice hive stand in about 30 minutes with nothing more than a saw, some glue, and a couple of screws. This is a quick project that can be completed in 30 minutes and save a bunch of money. This stand is modeled after the stand sold by Better Bee which costs 57.00 plus shipping.
I hope you enjoy this video and build one for yourself.
If you are considering installing a sustainable or edible landscape or becoming a beekeeper or starting beekeeping as a hobby this is the channel for you. I will show you everything I learned in my first years of beekeeping and you can learn with me as I experience and overcome the challenges I encounter in my second year and beyond. I will also feature some how-to videos because I am perpetually curious and creative and am always building something.
Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.

This video is not one I wanted to release but felt it necessary. I am a new beekeeper and will show my failures as well as successes. This is a huge failure, I mean a HUGE FAIL! I accidentally added two entrance reducers to my Orange hive when I was honey harvesting and effectively sealed my hive. This left the hive to bake in the Georgia sun for seven days with internal hive temperatures running over 111F. This was a terrible mistake which almost cost me the hive. The only thing that saved the hive was the exhaust fans which managed to vent the hive a little even though the screened bottom board was blocked with 2 inches of dead bees. I am feeling bad but feel like I need to show this video. Maybe it will prevent someone from making the same mistake or doing something equally as dumb.
Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.

Here we grow again! The bees have a new pad! In this video, we will be building a new pad for the expanding bee yard. Two new hives, Pink, and Resource Hive are added to the mix and we were running out of room. This is a quick afternoon project to create more space for the bees while maintaining the feel of the bee yard.

RED DAWN - Bees Attack. Following a string of bad decisions the RED hive delivers a warning.
For hi-res versions of my videos please see my YouTube channel, Most videos offered in 4K and 8K.

This is a funny FAIL video where the Red Hive (RED DAWN) is filled with angry bees which deiced to attack when I open the hive in early spring. The bees were later determined to contain Africanized bees (killer bees) in their lineage and had to be eliminated. This video was filmed in February of 2020.
RED DAWN - The RED Queen is EVIL! -- A string of bad decisions lead to the ultimate payback. The red hive has been an issue since last year but all of the bees in the hive this year are direct descendants for the RED queen. This video contains a lot of bad decisions starting with a quick heater check first thing in the morning. A couple of lessons to take away is if you have a hot hive and you need to do an inspection of your hives; inspect the HOT hive last. Secondly, do not open feed the bees prior to doing a hive inspection. You would think I would have learned hat lesson last year when the open feeding and hive inspections led to a robbing situation. I didn't follow these simple rules and the red hive attacks leaving me with several bee stings.

In this video, we will be going through the boxes and looking for frames of honey to harvest and extract. During the hunt, I am lit up by the Green hive and I provide a little more context than the clip I released earlier. I also split the Yellow beehive and bring the Red hive back into the mix. The Red beehive will get a new queen soon. I hope you enjoy the honey harvest, stings, and splits.

My Hive Pillow -- Control beehive moisture - canvas beehive pillows. Beekeeping Innovation.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
Well, I may not BEE the next Mike Lindell but I have created a beehive pillow to control the moisture created by the honeybee respiration and condensation inside of a winter beehive. These Bee hive pillows are simple to make and should be very effective in collecting internal bee hive moisture. Ideally I would have made these with cedar shavings instead of pine shavings but all of the pet stores and tractor supply stores were out so pine it is. Feel free to create your own winter bee hive moisture control beehive pillows. Please credit Bug Farmer if you are a YouTuber and use it them in a video.
You can find the Burlap needed to create these beehive pillows on Amazon.

About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this channel as well as videos from creators I have listed below. This is my third season as a beekeeper and everything I have learned came from YouTube and mostly from the channels listed below.
Although this channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than bees with this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
A little about you:
Please reach out in the comments and tell me what you're up too and how I could do things better. You may have experience doing what it is I am attempting to do and you knowledge and experience could be very helpful to me. Remember, I try all sorts of thing but I am not always successful. ...but I still try. :-)
I hope you find my videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

Moving a Beehive 3 feet or 3 miles? - Moving honeybee colony in preparation for winter.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
Continuing with the winter preparation we will be checking in on the White hive after the smash-up with the green hive and condensing he brood chamber down to one deep and one medium. We will also provide more food if necessary. In addition to the continued winter beehive prep we will be moving the White hive to he pad that the Green hive sat on before its demise. How to move a beehive? Not exactly, but I have always heard three feet or three miles so I guess we can put it to the test.

In this video, I am filling honey jars and labeling my honey jars for sale. This the payoff for all of the hard work. I will need more jars because I still have 11 and a half gallons in half-gallon jars and buckets. and 5 more mediums finishing up on the hives. I hope you enjoy this quick honey video. It is oddly satisfying to watch honey flow into jars. I may make a whole video just to watch it pour. :-)

Neglected Beehives -- Pine and Teal Finally Get a Pre-Winter Inspection ; Winter prep continues.

We finally inspect the Pine and Teal hives after neglecting them for a couple of months. It is important to get them fed and cleaned of hive beetles or anything else we may find. Inside the beehive we find a huge cockroach and a spider that has taken over the feeder box.

DEADOUT HIVE - Why did my bee hive die? The bees are gone, the queen is gone, now the hive is gone.
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video:
Why did my beehive die? When checking the bees I discovered that 99% of the bees in the colony were gone. Worse yet, there was no queen and no attempt by the bees to make a new queen. Ultimately we may find out what killed the bees but for now I have a decision I have to make. What to do with the few bees that have survived? Fold them into another one of my hives or dispatch them to the wind.

About this video:
The Cupboards Are Bare : Small hives will starve without intervention. Time to feed White and Sage.
The White and Sage hives are the two smallest hives and they have been struggling to build up their populations and food storage for winter. The goal today is to find the queen or evidence of laying and measure the food stores. It is a safe bet I will be doing a feeding video pretty soon.

This is a quick video. Time to make a decision on the Yellow hive. If I can't find a queen I will have to fold the white queen (boomerang hive) into the yellow hive so everyone can survive winter. We are on the hunt again. Find the Yellow queen or bust! Also, we will be looking for resources and checking on the fall flow. It may be time to start feeding the bees if the girls are not finding anything in the wild.

For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
Tis the season to keep the bees warm. In this video we will be installing the heat boxes on the climate control beehives. These heat boxes should keep the bees from clustering over the winter and make for a strong hive in the springtime. And as we all know a strong spring hive equals a strong summer harvest. I hope you like the video. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments. If you are interested in building your own beehive heater I have a four part four video series in the "Things I Build" playlist. Happy beekeeping.

How To Use Johnos Easy Vap Pro Oxalic Acid Treatment for Varroa Mites. Treating Varroa mites with OA.
After researching numerous methods for treating my beehive for varroa mites I settled on a solution I have seen in use by both Jim, at Vino Farm and Frederick Dunn. (No secret, they are my virtual mentors for beekeeping). I did not do a sugar shake nor did I do a alcohol wash before deciding to treat. I figured if I saw a significant mite drop I would continue the treatment. That way I wouldn't have to sacrifice any bees to determine if I had a problem. Guess what...? I had a problem. In several of the hives I have a significant mite load. I will be finishing the treatment with two more treatments over the next two weeks. If you are interested in getting your own Johnos Easy Vap you can reach out to John Oliver and have him build you one.
