When is it TOO HOT to work your bees? | HEAT STROKE #beekeeping #insects #bees #honey
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video: In this video we will fight the heat and quickly remove surplus honey and supers from the hives to prepare for the fall OA treatment. The bees don't like inspection in during dearth and they hate having their hives opened when it is this hot and humid outside. As I take out the honey supers the heat nearly takes me out.
About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy beekeeping and this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this beekeeping channel as well as videos from beekeeping creators I have listed below. This is my third season as a beekeeper and everything I have learned came from YouTube and mostly from the channels listed below.
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
A little about you:
If you are new to beekeeping or are interested in becoming a beekeeper this channel might be for you. In my beekeeping adventures I show everything from my beekeeping successes to my beekeeping failures. I hide nothing and am never afraid to admit to a mistake.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn beekeeping and to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

Best Defense Against Hive Beetles. The benefit of strong hives. #8K #bees #beekeeping
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video: Best Defense Against Hive Beetles | The benefit of keeping strong Hives.
In this video we will look at the best defense against small hive beetles (SHB). In this case the best defense is a strong offense which means keeping a healthy strong hive. When the bees have strong numbers they can easily keep the small hive beetle out of the brood nest. No beetles mean no larva, and no slime. Please note my bees were not chasing Beatles, they we chasing beetles. :-)

The Great Honeybee Die Off | Supply Chain Crisis Hits Bees | famine | food shortage | #beekeeping
For more frequent updates in between videos please visit the Bug Farmer Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/thebugfarmer/
About this video: The Great Honeybee Die-Off | Supply Chain Crisis Hits Bees | famine | food shortage | Sugar shortage = Bee Crisis
In this video we will discuss the sugar shortage that is starting to materialize nationwide and its affect on beekeepers. If you are like me and usually take all honey from your hives and supplement your honeybees with 1:1 or 2:1 sugar syrup to get them through dearth and the winter months you may want to consider buying and stockpiling sugar. The worst thing that can happen is to realize this fall that sugar is no longer available and your bees will die. It is important to remember if we take all that the bees forage we are responsible to forage for them. If we cannot fine adequate sugar to supplement their diet then we all lose. Do your part to "Save Your Bees" and we will all be doing our part to "Save The Bees". Don't be a victim of the Sugar Famine.
Special thanks to Kaylee @TheHoneystead for the inspiration.

About this video: Guardian Beehive Entrance Results | Watch Before You Buy
In this video I will share the results of my 3 years testing the Guardian Entrance. Does it stop SHB or doesn't it? Small hive beetles and the beehive. The best thing you can do to control small hive beetles in my opinion is control the larva drop from any small hive beetle that finds its way into your hive. It seems to me the Guardian Entrance is a gimmick. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe.

About this video:Combining Beehives | Two into one #beekeeping
In this video we will be combining two beehives into one to insure the survival of both hives. I will move an entire resource hive into the the existing queen-less bee-barns to make each one queen-right.

In this video I will be inspecting the hives that swarmed or were split in search of the queens. Last season I had serious queen issues which I believe were caused by the guardian Entrances. I may be experiencing the same thing this year.

About this video: In this video I do my first bee barn honey harvest and the results are amazing. The honey harvest produced more honey than I could have imagined. The honey supers were spun out and placed back on the hives to capture the rest of the nectar flow. The bee barns have exceeded my expectations. I guess more brood = more foragers = more honey!

About this video:
This is just a quick video to reduce congestion in a few of my hives before work. The afternoon temps will reach the 90'sF with high humidity here in the south and the girls need to reduce their nectar into honey in a very humid environment. The hive temp is only 91F but humidity is crazy. The fans have been set to exhaust at 80F today to help keep the bees cool.

Stop the laying worker in the red hive. This is the solution I have settled on to correct the problem with the laying worker bees in the red hive. After considering all of the suggestions from all of the comments this is the solution I felt was right for me, this hive, and my bees. You may choose to solve your laying worker situation differently than I have here and that is OK. We all have to do what we feel is correct in our situation. All situations are different. This is the last thing I wanted to do but honestly, the hive was dying with a population consisting of nearly 60% drones and growing daily as more drones hatched and workers died off. Thank you for watching.
If you are considering installing a sustainable or edible landscape or becoming a beekeeper or starting beekeeping as a hobby this is the channel for you. I will show you everything I learned in my first years of beekeeping and you can learn with me as I experience and overcome the challenges I encounter in my second year and beyond. I will also feature some how-to videos because I am perpetually curious and creative and am always building something.
Thank you for visiting my channel and I really hope you like, subscribe, and ring the bell.

How to stop Small Hive Beetles? Installing the Guardian small hive beetle entrance on all hives.
The battle between beekeepers and small hive beetles continues year after year, but this year someone invented a solution. I will be installing Guardian small hive beetle deterrent in my entrance reducers in an effort to prevent small hive beetles from getting into the hive. If I can keep the small hive beetles out of the hive I can stop using the beetle blaster and not risk spilling oil in the hive which would result in killing my bees. I learned about the Guardian small hive beetle deterrent from Michael Fike and Barnyard Bees so I thought I would give it a try.
We will check back in a few weeks to see how they have done and see if they were worth the money. If you are interested in obtaining these Guardian beetle preventers you can purchase them at Barnyard Bees. https://barnyardbees.com/
