A huge landslide in the Savoie department. To most people, the word "drought" may not seem like something terrible. However, prolonged periods of drought can cause as much damage as the most severe natural disasters, causing crop failures, famine, and a water crisis. MAY – JULY 2023 ☀️ URUGUAY: For several months now, the capital of Uruguay has been experiencing its worst drought in at least 70 years. MONTEVIDEO and its surrounding areas, where more than half of the country's population resides, are gradually running out of drinking water. As a result, a state of emergency was declared in the regions on June 19. As of the end of June 2023, the Paso Severino reservoir, the main source of freshwater, reached a historic low and holds less than 3% of its normal capacity. At least 13 neighborhoods were left without electricity and traffic was completely stopped due to the accumulation of water.
