The island was actually pretty cool, it had a spring with fresh water, plenty of coconuts and some tide pools so you could catch a fish or two. So you’re living there for a couple weeks and one day as you are walking along the beach you notice a bible that had washed up on the shore. You don’t really care about religion or the Bible however it’s the only thing you have to read, so you open it and begin to read. You don’t know anything about God, nothing, and with no one to explain it to you what would you get as you read it? No opinions, no outside influence, nothing, just You, that Bible, and God. First thing you learn is that God created everything that exists, period. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Next thing you learn is that external forces, Satan, ruined everything and God wiped it all out. You also learn about the first cruise ship, Noah’s Ark. Then you learn that God created a nation, Israel and these people had some serious issues. God saves them and then they blow it, over and over again. Next you read about poor Job, then the Psalms and you start to realize this book is reading you as you read it, what’s up with that. You start to see a pattern that God is going to come visit the earth and set everything straight again, what’s up with that? You finally arrive at the New Testament and start reading about Jesus, you notice all the prophecies he fulfilled that you read about previously. You learn that this Jesus is no ordinary man as he was born of a virgin. By the time you get to John you realize Jesus was The Son of God, this same Jesus appeared several times in the Old Testament? By the time you get finished with Paul’s letters and the letters from John, Peter, James, and Jude you realize several absolute facts about Jesus. 1. Jesus is the Son of God, He and His Father are one. Jesus is God Almighty. Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 2. Jesus is the only way to Heaven, period. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 3. You are saved by faith in Jesus and faith alone, works don’t matter. All you have to do to be forgiven is ask? 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 5. All you have to do to go to heaven is recognize who Jesus is, who you are, that you desperately need a savior. Let Us Reason Together I want to talk to you about bargaining with God. Have you ever made a deal with God, God if you’ll rescue me I’ll never do it again? The drunk hurling into the toilet. You guys ever think about the two second sin? Those sins that are so short in duration you never give them a second thought? Ever wonder what you’re going to remember and what you’re not when you pass through the doors of death? Music by Send Rain Will all the happy memories be there but all the sad ones gone? What about all those friends and relatives who don’t make heaven and wind up in hell, will you remember the ones who didn’t make it? It would not be heaven if you were able to recall sad memories. However, those in hell will remember everything. Every person They ever knew saved or unsaved, every day of their life, every word they ever spoke, every sin they ever committed. That in itself would be Hell. This used to bother me as I always thought that I want to remember everything, it all makes up who I am. I wanted to remember every person that was close to me. I finally came to the conclusion that I need to trust God on this one, He knows what’s best for me far better than I do.
