NYPD Cops Shoot Suspect After Pointing Gun at Them
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Bronx, NY — On Sunday, February 5, 2023, Police Officer Accordino, Police Officer Arias, Police Officer Brown, and Police Officer Keys were assigned to a detail in the vicinity of 730 Concourse Village West, Bronx. At approximately 2:15 p.m., a civilian victim was walking on the west sidewalk of Concourse Vilage West, approaching 153rd Street, when 49-year-old Kwame Garnett approached her from behind and kicked her, causing her pain. Garneft continued to walk on Concourse Village West, and approached another civilian victim and shoved her. The first civilian victim then approached Police Officers, on foot, reported that she was assaulted, and informed them that the subject was walking south on Concourse Vilage West, toward 153rd Street.
The five officers began to walk south on Concourse Village West in search of Garnett. At this point, Garnett reached the intersection of Grand Concourse and East 153rd Street, where he removed a firearm from his person and pointed it at a third civilian victim. As Garnett pointed the firearm at the civilian victim, the five officers caught up to him and began to shout verbal commands for him to drop the weapon. Garnett instead turned his attention away from the civilian victim and began to walk away, still in possession of the firearm in his left hand. As he walked away, Garnett pointed the firearm at his own head before again lowering it and continuing to walk.
Shortly thereafter, Garnett stopped walking, and in a rapid motion, turned towards the officers while brandishing the firearm and pointed it in their direction. In response, Police Officer Accordino discharged two rounds from his service firearm, Police Officer Arias discharged 16 rounds from his service firearm, Police Officer Brown discharged 16 rounds from his service firearm, and Police Officer Keys discharged five rounds from his service firearm. Garnett was struck by the gunfire and fell to the ground. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Lincoln Hospital Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries. Subsequent to this incident, Garnett was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Menacing 2nd, Menacing of a Police Officer, Assault 3rd, and related charges.

2 IMPD Officer Shot After Police Pursuit Leads To Shootout
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Indianapolis, Indiana — On April 20, 2023, around 12:40 p.m. IMPD officers involved were conducting a firearms investigation with the Lawrence Police Department. They were conducting surveillance on a house in the 9100 block of East 36th Street. According to the Police, the target of the investigation was 46-year-old Daniel Ghebrehiwet. Officers claim when Ghebrehiwet left the house, he was spotted carrying a soft rifle case as he got into the driver's seat of a black Toyota Sienna. A second person was seen getting into the passenger seat. Police said they followed the suspect south on N. Post Road and attempted a traffic stop in the area of 30th Street and N. Post Road. The suspect did not stop, which led to a pursuit, according to police. The suspect drove into a grassy area behind homes and was blocked by terrain, which caused him to stop.
Police said the suspect then began firing a rifle at the officers with an AR-style rifle. Security footage from the business, shows Ghebrehiwet driving past the parking lot and into a grassy area. He is soon followed by two fully-marked IMPD cars. Gunfire can be heard as officers step out of their cars. Investigators say Ghebrehiwet began open firing on the four officers with a rifle before the cars even stopped. Over 15 shots can be heard coming from where Ghebrehiwet’s car is parked. Footage shows Detective De Leon being wounded by gunfire to his leg. Body-worn camera footage from Detective De Leon begins before the pursuit was initiated. In the video, shot can be heard firing before De Leon exits his vehicle. Moments later, De Leon can be heard saying "I'm hit, I'm hit," as he falls to the ground.
In body-worn camera footage from Detective Phelps, you can hear multiple gunshot being fired after De Leon was hit and and see a police car riddled with bullets. Phelps is heard yelling "Police! Drop the gun." Phelps also states that he was also hit by gunfire. "I got hit in the stomach," Phelps says. Phelps, Harris and Wallace move toward the suspect after gunfire ceases. Bodycam footage show officers slowly approaching Ghebrehiwet’s van, which has its back window shot out. A passenger they said was riding with Ghebrehiwet had fled on foot. The passenger was later apprehended and was arrested for an unrelated narcotics warrant out of Marion County for possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and a narcotic drug. Both Detectives De Leon and Phelps were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Phelps was released the same day and De Leon was released the next day.

Avondale Police Officer Shoots Shoplifting Suspect After Confrontation
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Avondale, Arizona — On February 21, 2023, around 12:30 p.m. police were called to a Family Dollar store near Dysart Road and Riley Drive for a reported shoplifting. A description of the man was given to police. Employees told officers that the same person had shoplifted from the store twice that day. Police said that a man matching the description was seen by an officer at the Agua Fria River bottom near 10th Street and Riley Drive. After activating his body camera, the video shows the officer approaching the suspect and telling him to keep his hands where he can see them. Police say the officer saw what appeared to be a “sharp tool” in the suspect’s waistband. He then attempts to put the suspect in handcuffs, getting one of the cuffs around his left hand before a struggle ensues.
The body cam is obscured during the first few seconds before showing the officer on his back on the ground and the suspect standing over him. According to police, he was trying to choke the officer and attempted to reach for his duty weapon, which was still holstered. The officer was able to press the emergency button on his radio during the confrontation, but other officers had not yet arrived. The video then shows the officer get back on his feet, break away from the suspect and draw his gun. The officer then fired five shots as the suspect turned to run away. Paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene, where police also recovered three knives. The Avondale officer, a six-year veteran of the department, was taken to the hospital for injuries on his neck and left hand.

Farmington Officer Gets Shot During Intense Shootout With 18-year-old Mass Shooter
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Farmington, New Mexico — On Monday, May 15, 2023, at about 11:00 a.m. 18-year-old Beau Wilson stepped out of his home and opened fire on neighboring houses and passing cars, police said. He was supposed to graduate from Farmington High School the next day. The sound of the 18-year-old gunman’s rapid-fire shots was captured on a Farmington resident’s Ring camera before Wilson can clearly be heard calling for punishment. At least 150 shots from an AR-15 rifle were fired at the scene, according to police. The front door video showed 79-year-old Shirley Voita's vehicle coming down a roadway with the driver's door opened. Vehicles could be seen reversing away from the shooting scene. Voita was killed in the shooting, along with two other victims identified as Gwendolyn Dean Schofield, 97, her 73-year-old daughter, Melody Ivie. Audio from the neighbor's camera heard Wilson yell, "Kill Me."
Police body camera footage shows Sgt. Rachel Discenza and other officers rushing toward the Farmington High School senior, who had ripped off his modified protective vest with steel plates for the final confrontation. “Farmington police! Let’s see your hands!“ a male officer shouts at Wilson. An explosion of fire can be heard moments before Discenza is shot in the pelvic region. She fell to her knees after being shot, but still attempted to stand and continue toward the shooter before falling again. Officers on scene rendered initial aid. Discenza is recovering at home after being wounded. Police rushed to handcuff Wilson, but he was dead at the scene. A note was later found in the pocket of his discarded vest that said, “If your (sic) reading this I’m the end of the chapter.” It is not yet clear how many gunshot wounds Wilson had sustained. The six people wounded include Discenza and New Mexico State Police officer Andreas Stamatiadis, who was shot while driving to the scene. Both officers have been released from the hospital, along with the four other wounded victims. In total, Wilson fired at 11 vehicles and seven houses, though none of the people shot was in a residence.

Connecticut State Police Trooper Shoots Knife-Wielding Man During Court-Ordered Eviction
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Brooklyn, Connecticut — On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a State Marshal went to at 29 Tiffany Street, Apartment 5, Brooklyn, Connecticut, to evict the tenant, 59-year-old Byron Harvey, pursuant to an order issued by the Housing Court. The State Marshal had information that Harvey had a large canine at the residence and arranged for two Animal Control Officers to be present during the planned eviction. When no one answered the door, the State Marshal contacted the Connecticut State Police for assistance. Connecticut State Trooper Yeung arrived on scene. Using a key provided by the landlord, the State Marshal, Trooper Yeung, and the Animal Control Officers entered the apartment. Once inside, Trooper Yeung observed Harvey who was holding a large knife in his right hand.
Trooper Yeung requested backup and other Troopers, including Trooper Romello Lumpkin, arrived on scene. The Troopers attempted to start a dialog with Harvey and repeatedly asked him to drop the knife. Harvey sat in a chair that was approximately fifteen feet away from the Troopers who were at the end of a galley kitchen. Harvey refused to drop the knife and made several suicidal remarks. At one point he said, “You’re going to have to shoot me ... If you don’t, I’m going to get at least one of you.” When Harvey stood up from the chair and advanced toward the Troopers still holding the knife in a raised position, one Trooper discharged his TASER and Trooper Lumpkin fired one round from his handgun striking Harvey in the abdomen. State Troopers and EMS treated Harvey on scene and he was transported to Day Kimball Hospital. From there he was flown via Lifestar to UMass Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. He remains there under treatment.

Fresno Cops Shoot Suspect Armed With a Knife in Front of Police Station
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fresno, California — On Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:06 pm, a Fresno Police sergeant and officer parked their patrol cars in the south parking lot of the Southwest District patrol station. While parked, they observed a man, later identified as 33-year-old Coy Jackson, near the south vehicle entrance gate to the patrol station. When the sergeant and officer exited their patrol cars, they walked over to speak with Jackson. Jackson had his hands in his pockets. Oxnard Police Officer Shoots Man Who Charged at Him With a Knife
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Oxnard, California — On Friday, April 28, 2023, at approximately 12:15 a.m. Oxnard police officers responded to 235 East Seventh Street to assist the Oxnard Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel with an uncooperative subject requiring medical attention. It was initially reported that the subject had been drinking and was hallucinating. Fire Department personnel requested assistance because the subject was in possession of a knife and was actively cutting his wrists. The subject of the call has been identified as 24 year-old Oxnard resident Michael Owens. Due to the reported circumstances, officers responded “Code 3” to the location. A “Code 3” response is when officers drive with their vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens activated. Officer Manuel Garcia was the first officer to arrive at the scene. Officer Garcia is a 5-year veteran of the Oxnard Police Department and is currently assigned to our Patrol Division. He has not previously been involved in a shooting.
Officer Garcia parked in the alley and approached from the north side of the apartment building. He contacted fire personnel and they told him Owens had barricaded himself in a room that was later determined to be a single communal bathroom. Officer Garcia proceeded up the apartment building’s south stairway, and took a position at the top of the staircase. This position was approximately 45 feet south of the communal bathroom Owens had gone into. Officer Garcia made efforts to communicate with Owens and gain his cooperation. Owens emerged from the bathroom, retreated back inside, and then re-emerged with a knife in his hand. Owens then began walking directly toward Officer Garcia. Officer Garcia gave commands to Owens, and Owens did not comply. As Owens continued to move towards the officer, Officer Garcia fired his handgun. Emergency Medical Services personnel, who were still on scene, engaged in life saving efforts after the shooting. An ambulance transported Owens to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. He remained in critical condition until the afternoon of Saturday, April 29, when medical authorities declared him deceased at approximately 2:30 p.m.

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Hyde Park, N.Y. — On Friday, April 29, 2022, around 3:30 p.m., New York State Police and the Hyde Park Police responded to a physical domestic at a residence on North Cross Road. Police said Hyde Park officers Johsua Kemlage and Bryan Sweeney with Trooper Christopher Miller of SP Rhinebeck were initially successful in deescalating a dispute between, 34-year-old Jamie Feith and her partner at the home. As the officers interviewed Feith, she armed herself with a knife and attempted to stab the officers. An officer deployed a Taser before Hyde Park Officer Kemlage fires two shots, knocking Feith to the floor. The partner, being held back just feet away, yells, "Don't (expletive) shoot her" twice as Kemlage fires a third shot and then a fourth. "No, No, No. No. What the (expletive)," the partner yells as Sweeney straddles Feith to pull the knife from her. "Get off of her. Get off of her." The video ends just after he yells at Kemlage not to kill him as well. Feith was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York State Attorney General’s Office responded to the scene and is now the lead investigative agency.

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Phoenix, Arizona — On April 24th, 2023, Phoenix Police received a call about a man attempting to steal an item at a business in the area of 33rd Avenue and Bell Road. While the caller was on the phone with dispatchers, the man assaulted the caller. Later in the 911 call, the caller stated that the man was leaving the area. A number of officers and a sergeant were dispatched to the call. The sergeant located a man matching the description given, riding a bicycle in the area of 31st Avenue and Bell Road. The sergeant gave commands to the man to stop riding his bike, the man refused the commands and rode his bike into an apartment complex near 33rd Avenue and Bell Road. The sergeant lost site of the man at this point. The sergeant drove to the apartment complex and got out of his patrol car to search the complex on foot.
While inside the complex, he saw the man and order him to stop. The man refused the command and took off running. The sergeant, and ultimately another officer on scene, ran after the man. During the foot chase the sergeant noticed the man had a knife in his hand and the sergeant gave multiple commands to drop the knife. The subject turned around facing the sergeant and the officer. He was again given commands to drop the knife, but he did not and instead charged at the sergeant with the knife still in his hand. The sergeant fired his firearm multiple times and the officer discharged his taser. The man was struck with gunfire and fell to the ground. Officers provided medical aid to the man until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on scene. The man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The knife that man had during the incident was found on scene.

Bodycam Shows Suspect Shot After Charging at Deputies With a Metal Bed Frame
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
San Diego, California — On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 7:23 p.m., the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a call from a male reporting that his roommate had picked up a bedframe and threatened to kill another roommate at a residence in the 3600 block of South Barcelona Street. The caller also mentioned that the suspect may be experiencing mental issues. Deputies from the Rancho San Diego substation were dispatched to the call. Upon arriving, they evacuated three residents of the home and spoke with them. They confirmed that the suspect, who lives at the residence, had brandished the metal bedframe at two of them and threatened to kill everyone in the house. Deputies determined there was probable cause to arrest the suspect for brandishing a weapon and criminal threats.
Deputies located the suspect in a bathroom in the residence. He was still armed with the metal bedframe and held it in front of him pointed at the deputies. He refused to exit the bathroom and made rambling statements including telling deputies to “shoot.” Deputies brought less lethal resources to the scene including a canine officer and a taser. The Psychiatric Emergency Response Team was also on scene to assist. Deputies negotiated with the suspect for approximately fifteen minutes repeatedly asking him to drop the metal bedframe. At that point, deputies moved closer to the bathroom where a deputy deployed his taser. The taser struck the suspect but was ineffective.
The suspect then quickly ran out of the bathroom, charging towards the deputies in the hallway with the metal bedframe held over his head in both hands. One of the deputies shot multiple rounds from his department-issued firearm. The rounds struck the suspect, who fell to the ground. Deputies immediately began rendering life- saving aid. Paramedics responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was taken to a hospital and is in stable but serious condition. No deputies were injured in the shooting. The suspect in this case has been identified as 45-year-old Santo Marac. On May 1, 2023, he was arraigned in the hospital for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal threats, and resisting arrest with violence.

Suspect Shoots His Brother And Wounds His Brother's Wife Before Dying in a Shootout With Cops
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
North Ogden, Utah — On Thursday, April 27, 2023, 66-year-old Jeffrey Roberts from Long Beach, CA, drove to his brother's house in North Ogden, UT, parking his van in the driveway. At approximately 7:11 p.m., he approached the front door and rang the doorbell. The occupants of the home, Scott Roberts and his wife, were eating dinner alone when Jeffrey Roberts arrived. In the doorbell video, Jeffrey is seen walking to the front door and ringing the doorbell before Scott answers and asks what he is doing at the home. The brothers are heard exchanging conversation about where another family member is before Jeffrey reaches into his jacket, pulls out a gun and shoots his brother, killing him. After fatally shooting his brother, Jeffrey Scott went into the home and also shot his brother's wife, Jodi Roberts, who survived and is recovering in the hospital. Neighbors who heard the gunshots began calling 911.
A man who lives next door to the Roberts is heard in a in a distressed state in 911 audio telling a dispatcher that he heard what he thought were gunshots, but, "I'm not sure about that." Over the span of about 13 minutes, the doorbell camera was triggered by motion several times as Jeffrey Roberts entered and exited the home and as police responded. The video kicked on again at 7:13 p.m., showing Jeffrey Roberts leaving through the front door and out of site of the camera momentarily. He can then be seen returning with a large bag in his left hand that appears to contain heavy items, and a shotgun in his right hand. At 7:14 p.m., at least one more shot can be heard, and possibly another before the camera cuts out for a span of about 5 minutes. When it retriggers again at 7:19 p.m., Jeffrey Roberts can be seen frantically pacing in and out of the front walkway while talking with someone on the phone.
The short portion of the conversation that was captured by surveillance is difficult to decipher due to blaring smoke alarms inside the home that were drowning out multiple words. Police later said that the suspect set the home on fire using road flares. He can be heard telling the person on the phone about his "turtles" and his "bank account" before the camera goes dark again. Preliminary investigation shows that Jeffrey Roberts began to fire on police as they arrive on scene. This was not captured by the doorbell camera. When the Ring cam kicks back on at 7:20 p.m., police vehicles can be seen on the street beyond two pillars at the home's entrance, which are pocked with bullet holes. Jeffrey Roberts then re-enters the camera's view as he runs out of the front door and toward the street while firing multiple rounds at officers. Officers returned fire, and the man was shot and killed. None of the officers were injured.
Simultaneous to the confrontation between the man and police Thursday evening, the home was ablaze and firefighters from North View Fire District and other agencies subsequently doused it. The home appears to have suffered extensive fire damage. The county attorney stated Jeffrey Roberts was armed with a 9mm handgun. Included in the bag he was seen bringing into the home was apparently 23 fully-loaded magazines. An evidence photo from the scene showed 19 of the unused clips. It wasn't immediately clear if the remaining four had been emptied during the shooting, though the video contained photos of the bullet hole-ridden objects around the home - including a mailbox behind which an officer hid during the shootout, the police vehicle in front of the home, and at least 13 or more bullet holes in the garage door of the home across the street. He was also carrying 150 shotgun shells, in addition to the 12-guage weapon he retrieved after the first shots were fired. There have been no reports of any neighbors being struck by bullets during the shootout.

Driver Intentionally Crashes Into Police Cars, Injuring Officers And a Police K9
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Evesham Township, New Jersey — On Sunday, April 30, 2023, around 1:00 a.m., Evesham Township Police Department (ETPD) officers were at the scene of a car crash in Evesham Township, New Jersey, when they spotted a white Hyundai Genesis speeding west on Taunton Lake Road, according to police. Investigators said the vehicle was traveling 80 mph in a 45 mph zone and it appeared to increase in speed as it passed the officers. When an officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the Genesis, identified as 24-year-old Marc Ferraiolo, failed to pull over and ran the red light. The officers stopped pursuing Ferraiolo due to the risk it posed to them and the public, investigators said. Police broke off a pursuit due to the risk it posed to them and the public and went to the couple's home after recognizing Ferraiolo as the driver. Police body camera videos show the moments when officers pulled up to the home where Ferraiolo and his wife, 42-year-old Ruth Patton live with Ferraiolo’s mother.
Officers then located Ferraiolo and Patton at their residence, where Patton exited the car after it pulled into the driveway of their home. Ferraiolo backed the vehicle into a police car, then drove across lawns in efforts to run down two police officers. Officers were able to jump out of the way and were not struck by the vehicle. Ferraiolo continued driving in reverse, hitting a police vehicle with a K9 named Tango inside. Ferraiolo then drove across his own property, a neighbor's property and down the street. He attempted to make a U-turn and then drove at a high rate of speed toward the police and crashed again into the police K9 vehicle. He backed up his vehicle several more times and continued to ram the police vehicle with the police K9 inside the vehicle, the police chief said. He continued down the street, striking two additional Evesham police vehicles that were parked on the side of the road, unattended, and ultimately crashed into a police vehicle down the road that was also unoccupied.
Ferraiolo's vehicle was inoperable by the last crash. Because his doors were locked, police had to break into his windows to unlock the vehicle and apprehend the suspect, who was transported to a hospital, where he received treatment before being moved to jail. Ferraiolo is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault on police, eluding, criminal mischief and injuring a police canine. Patton is charged with terroristic threats and obstruction of justice. The incident caused damage of about $45,000 to each of three police vehicles and a neighbor's parked car, according to a probable cause statement. Ferraiolo and Patton are no strangers to local police, according to neighbors. People who live on their street say they’ve been the “neighbors from hell” for at least the last two years of the six years they’ve lived there. Neighbors said the couple lived in a poorly kept home with bright lights and multiple cameras. Police reports of the complaints go back at least a year.

Bodycam Footage Shows Shootout Between Tucson SWAT Officers And Armed Suspect
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Tucson, Arizona — On March 3rd, 2023, just before 11:30 p.m., Tucson Police Department officers from the Operations Division Midtown Community Response Team (ODM CRT) located an aggravated assault suspect. Detectives had previously established probable cause to arrest the male, identified as 28-year-old Aaron Martinka, for two counts of aggravated assault, one count of a prohibited possessor, and one count of discharging a firearm within city limits. He also had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a probation violation. ODM CRT located Martinka driving in a vehicle. ODM CRT coordinated with members of the Tucson Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to take him into custody. SWAT officers attempted to stop Martinka’s vehicle near the intersection of East Grant Road and North Park Avenue by utilizing an immobilization device to safely bring the suspect’s vehicle to a stop. The device failed and Martinka accelerated, fleeing at a high rate of speed.
As officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, Martinka caused a multiple-vehicle collision, resulting in his vehicle becoming disabled, stopping just west of East Grant Road and North Campbell Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle, Martinka produced a handgun and fired at officers. Officers returned fire and struck Martinka. Officers medically evaluated Martinka; however, a SWAT medic from the Tucson Fire Department declared him deceased at the scene. Officers identified an adult female 29-year-old Ashley Mendibles, who was wanted in the same aggravated assault incident as Martinka was located inside the vehicle. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the collision and was transported to Banner University Medical Center. No bystanders or department members were injured in this incident. The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Officer Bradley Kush, an 11-year veteran, Officer Adam Smith, a 15-year veteran, and Officer Joe Buck, a 10-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department.

Bodycam Shows The Moment a Dallas Officer and His K-9 Partner Were Injured in a Gun Battle
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Dallas, Texas — On April 27, 2023, at 9:45 PM, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 2900 block of Cypress Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect, 20-year-old Bryan Casillas shot two people inside the home after being confronted for loud music. The two victims locked themselves inside a room and called for police. Casillas ran from the scene. Officers provided first aid to the victims and Dallas Fire Rescue was called and took the two people to a local hospital. While the home was being processed for evidence, officers started the search for Casillas. Southeast patrol officers searched on the ground and a DPS helicopter was called in to help for a short time, while the DPD Canine Unit also responded to help in the search. At 12:27 AM, a 9-1-1 call was received for a male knocking on the door in the 9400 block of Briggs Street. Shortly before 2:00 am, officers located a shoe and a blood trail in the area of 9300 Briggs Street.
Canine Officer, Senior Corporal Scott Jay and his K9 partner, Figor, responded and met with patrol officers. Senior Corporal Jay started a canine track with patrol officers and made their way through the trees to a creek where they found Casillas near a bridge. At around 2:30 am, K9 Figor moved in and engaged Casillas. Casillas then shot at K9 Figor, hitting him in the chest. Casillas then fired at Senior Corporal Jay, hitting him in the leg, and in the chest. Senior Corporal Jay returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times. Dallas Fire Rescue responded, and Casillas died at the scene. Senior Corporal Jay and K9 Figor then made their way out of the creek to the yard of a home, where Jay secured Figor to a tree for his, and other officers’ safety. An officer applied a tourniquet and others administered first aid to Senior Corporal Jay. Senior Corporal Jay was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was later released. K9 Figor was taken to a local emergency veterinary hospital for treatment and released. The two were reunited with each other over the weekend.
