* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Vancouver, Washington — On May 30, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a detective from the Vancouver Police Department Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) spotted a subject driving westbound in the 6700 block of E. Mill Plain Blvd who he recognized as a suspect who was wanted for multiple, recent robberies. The suspect was later identified as 43-year-old Joshua James Wilson, of Vancouver. Two additional NRT detectives arrived in the area and Wilson was seen parking his vehicle and entering the Safeway at Mill Plain Blvd./Andresen Rd.
Several minutes later, he was seen exiting the store. After Wilson fell, officers could be heard asking if anyone else was hit. In response, an officer said, “He shot towards me. I’m not — I’m good.” Three Vancouver Police Detectives and one Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged their weapons, striking Wilson. Medical aid was rendered to the Wilson, however he was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers were physically injured.

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Perris, California — On April 14, 2023, deputies were in the unincorporated area of Perris known as Meadowbrook searching for 35-year-old Johnny Ray Llamas. At approximately 4:47 p.m., a concerned citizen advised an unknown male and female were on their property, located near the 22200 block of River Road. When deputies arrived, they confirmed the male was the wanted felon and established a perimeter. A Sheriff’s K9 handler and his K9 partner, “Rudy,” responded to assist with the search. During the search, K9 Rudy alerted to where Llamas was hiding. Llamas fired a handgun at deputies, striking K9 Rudy.
Deputies gave commands to Llamas to surrender, however, they refused to comply. The Sheriff’s Aviation Unit observed Llamas and female running toward an occupied residence and could see Llamas was still armed with a handgun. As deputies approached Llamas, he pointed the firearm at deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Deputies rendered medical aid to Llamas, but he was later pronounced deceased at the scene. K9 Rudy was transported to a local veterinary hospital where he later died. No deputies were injured during this incident and there are no outstanding suspects. The female was detained pending further investigation. The firearm used by Llamas was a Ruger P89 semiautomatic handgun.

California Police Officer Shot During Gunfight With Burglary Suspect
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
San Luis Obispo, California — On May 10, 2021, at approximately 5 p.m., six SLOPD officers were serving a search warrant to 35-year-old Edward Giron for possible stolen property related to a series of late-night commercial burglaries that have taken place over the week. As the officers approached the apartment, they provided “knock and notice” identifying themselves as law enforcement as required by California Penal Code 844. After an extended period of time and having received no response, they forced open the front door. Giron was laying in wait and began to fire shots at the officers from inside the apartment. The first shot hit and killed Detective Luca Benedetti. In the video, the department redacted the moment using a black square. It’s followed by several ensuing shots, but Giron is not seen.
The surrounding officers quickly ran down the stairs to safety as Giron fired more shots, and the officer behind the body-cam footage radioed to the department "Shots fired, shots fired, he's got a gun, he's shooting at us, all units, all units." After killing Benedetti, Giron came out on the stairwell and continued shooting at officers. One of those shots injured Detective Steve Orozco, who was shot in the arm and head. He did survive his injuries but according to police, he sustained long-term effects from that day. Giron took Benedetti's rifle from his body and continued shooting at the officers from his elevated position outside his apartment. Two officers, including the one wearing the body camera, returned fire at Giron, striking him, and Giron retreated back inside his apartment. Shortly after, a single shot was heard. Giron shot and killed himself with the officer’s service rifle. Through the investigation, more stolen items were located inside Giron’s home.

Armed Suspect Holds Driver Hostage Before Cops Fatally Shoot Him
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Broomfield, Colorado — On September 29, 2022, the Denver Police Department Fugitive Unit sought 25-year-old Anthony Lainez in connection with the investigation of a homicide in Denver. Lainez had outstanding warrants for his arrest, and the Fugitive Unit was engaged in physical and electronic surveillance to locate and apprehend him. The DA’s office said detectives watched Lainez leave the home with a woman, and drive off in a white Ford Edge with temporary New Mexico tags. The woman was identified as Sky Toya. Broomfield Police Department officers, who had been called in for backup and tried to stop Lainez but he drove around them and took off.
Lainez was heading south on Sheridan in a white Ford Edge when he turned left and got into a crash with a blue Ford Explorer, police said. Lainez got out of his car after it spun out. He tried to get into the car of another driver who had stopped after witnessing the crash. Lainez got in the front passenger’s seat and Toya hopped in the back passenger’s side. Lainez held a gun to the driver’s ribs and told him to “go” but the driver pulled the keys out of the ignition and tried to escape. Lainez grabbed the driver and pulled him back into the car. Undercover Denver detectives in police tactical gear. Detective James Waidler ran up to the Corolla while yelling at Lainez to show his hands. He described that Lainez appeared to be holding the victim as a shield.
Denver Detective Jay Lopez arrived moments after Detective Waidler. Lopez drove his truck near the Corolla to distract Lainez, got out, and ran up to the front quarter panel of the Corolla to break the windshield with the muzzle of his rifle. Lainez pulled out a gun and shot Lopez in the neck. Lopez shot at Lainez while dropping to the ground. During that shootout, Waidler pulled the hostage to safety and returned fire at Lainez, seated in the driver’s seat. The carjacking victim fell to the ground. Detective Waidler stepped backwards and fell to the ground. Lainez got out of the driver’s door while holding the gun and advanced on Detective Waidler. Detective Waidler fired his gun at Lainez several more times, striking him and causing him to fall to the ground.
Denver Detective Cole Connors heard the report of the crash and attempted carjacking. He was the third officer on scene. Detective Connors saw Lainez on the ground reaching for the handgun that lay next to him. Detective Connors yelled, “Don’t grab the gun!” Lainez ignored the command and reached for the handgun. Detective Connors fired his handgun at Lainez until he stopped moving and was no longer a threat to anyone. Immediately after the shooting incident, the Denver Detectives were joined by their fellow Fugitive Unit officers and Broomfield police officers. The officers tended to Detective Lopez and Toya was taken into custody without incident. Lainez was pronounced dead on scene. Detective Lopez survived and spent nearly a month and a half in the hospital.
Criminalists assigned to the CIRT gathered evidence and processed the scene. A loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun was located.Evidence collected from the scene confirmed that Lainez fired two rounds from this gun. The weapon was later discovered to have been reported stolen. Lainez tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine and a 9mm semiautomatic handgun was found near his body at the scene. Additional guns and ammunition, drugs and $1,000 in cash were found inside the Corolla. Toya, the female participant who was arrested on scene, was charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and first degree criminal trespass. Toya pled guilty to aggravated robbery in Broomfield County District Court and, on April 27, 2023, was sentenced to twelve years in the Department of Corrections.

Murder Suspect Gets Shot by Officers Following Attempted Arrest
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Orange Park, Florida — On May 12, 2023, the Broward County Sheriff's Office began investigating a murder that occurred in their County. As part of that investigation, JSO, assisted by serving search warrants on a residence and a vehicle located within Duval County. On May 18, 2023, the Broward County Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant for 39-year-old Zonchez Delarfette Prince, arrest for First Degree Murder with a Firearm. Prince and his brother planned to murder an individual named Jazzy Johnson. On May 12, 2023, Prince, who is armed with a firearm, approached Johnson and the deceased victim. Johnson and the victim fled in separate directions. Prince and another suspect chased and shot at the victim, striking and killing him.
Once the warrant was issued, the Broward County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of JSO in locating Prince, a Duval County resident, to serve the arrest warrant on him. On Friday, May 19, 2023, shortly before 6 p.m., members of the JSO SWAT team located Prince and followed him to a parking lot in the 1100 block of Park Avenue, just beyond the Duval County Line in Clay County, Florida. Due to an interagency agreement in place, JSO officers can travel into neighboring counties, such as Clay County, in pursuit of a Suspect with an act of arrest warrant. After Prince pulled his vehicle into a parking space, members of the SWAT team parked their truck behind his car to prevent him from fleeing. With Prince's car being blocked in, officers surrounded his vehicle with their service weapons drawn and announced to Prince that there was a warrant for his arrest.
He was given numerous verbal commands to exit his vehicle, but Prince refused to comply and instead told them that they would have to kill him. While officers continue to order Prince to exit his vehicle, Prince pulled a firearm and pointed it at one of the officers through his open driver's seat window. At that time, two of the officers fired their weapons at Prince. Officers then approached the vehicle, removed Prince's firearm from the immediate vicinity, and provided initial medical care to him. Due to the extent of his injuries, Prince died at the scene. Prince's firearm was recovered and photographed by crime scene detectives. A 10mm handgun was loaded with one round in the Firearm's chamber and seven rounds in the magazine. Due to Marsy's Law, which prevents law enforcement agencies from disclosing the identity of victims, JSO is not identifying the officers involved.

Houston Police Fire at Man Threatening to Shoot Officers
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Houston, Texas — On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Houston police patrol officers responded to a check on welfare call at a residence at 413 Rouse Street and were told by a family member the suspect was having issues with alcohol and using narcotics. The family member also stated the suspect had threatened him and the neighbors. The suspect was later identified as 46-year-old Edgar DeLeon. As the officers made contact with DeLeon, he became aggressive and then went into the residence, threatening to assault his family member, neighbors and officers.
DeLeon then threated to retrieve a pistol and shoot officers. At that time, officers discharged their CED (Conducted Energy Device) at DeLeon at least twice with no effect. After making the threat, DeLeon moved quickly toward the kitchen and behind a counter, which obstructed the officers’ view of his hands. Officer Alvarez discharged his duty weapon at DeLeon, striking him multiple times. Officers immediately provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced DeLeon deceased. HPD Officer A. Alvarez, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Alvarez was sworn in as an officer in March 2019 and is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

Sacramento Police Shoot Woman Pointing Pellet Gun at Officers
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Sacramento, California — On May 20, 2023, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to a business in the 1100 block of 24th Street regarding reports of an individual saying they had a gun. The complainant provided a detailed description of the individual. Officers responded to the location and checked the area. About twenty minutes later, while officers were checking the area of the first call, the Sacramento Police Department received a report of an individual waving around a gun near the intersection of 28th Street and N Street. A third caller stated an individual was pointing a gun at the customers of a business in the N Street and 28th Street area. Detailed descriptions of the armed individual were provided to dispatch, similar to those provided on the 24th Street call.
Following the initial 9-1-1 calls, the Sacramento Police Department received four additional 9-1-1 calls over the next four minutes, two in the 1400 block of 28th Street and two in the 2700 block of N Street. In one of those calls, an employee at an area business related that an individual with a gun came into the establishment while waving it around and stealing money. The other calls all related an armed individual was either pointing a gun at someone or waving one around. Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 28th Street and N Street area. A uniformed Sacramento Police Department K9 handler (Officer #1) observed an individual near 29th Street and Q Street matching the description provided by the callers. Officer #1 attempted to contact the individual, but the individual ran from the officer. As the individual was running from Officer #1, the officer issued numerous commands that were ignored.
An additional uniformed K9 handler (Officer #2) arrived in his patrol vehicle. The individual stopped running, turned toward Officer #1 and #2, and produced what appeared to be a silver handgun. Officer #1 and #2 confronted the individual, who continued to ignore the officers’ orders to comply and pointed the silver handgun at the K9 handlers. An officer-involved shooting occurred shortly thereafter. Officer #1 and #2 discharged their weapons, and neither was injured. Two witnesses were seated in a vehicle in the immediate area of the incident. Officers rendered emergency medical aid to the individual. She was transported to an area hospital by the Sacramento Fire Department, where she received medical treatment for her injuries. Officers recovered a silver pellet handgun in the immediate area where the suspect was taken into custody. 43-year-old Chio Saeteurn was arrested on robbery charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

South City Police Chase Ends in Shootout With Robbery Suspect
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
St. Louis, Missouri — On Friday, May 28, 2021, St. Louis Metropolitan police officers were trying to pull over 32-year-old Darne Ricks, on Pennsylvania Avenue near Cherokee Street, in relation to an armed robbery investigation. Ricks drove erratically through streets where children were present as he escaped at more than 100 mph. The vehicle eventually crashed in the 3700 block of Nebraska. Ricks came to a stop on Nebraska Avenue. He stepped out of the car and fired at the officers who were pursuing him. An officer leapt out of his truck and returned fire. As Ricks ran away, the officer fired four shots before lowering his arms briefly, running, and firing eight more times.
Ricks was apprehended by police in a nearby alley following a brief foot chase. One of the officers was taken to the hospital with a graze wound above his right eye. It was not immediately clear if the wound was from shattered glass or the result of a bullet. The Officer was released later that day. Ricks was not injured in the altercation. A weapon was recovered at the scene. On March 28, 2023, Ricks pleaded guilty to firing at police officers in 2021, calling a halt to his circuit court trial on the second day of the proceeding. He was then sentenced to 21 years in prison. In addition, Ricks received a 10-year term for his involvement in a robbery that happened three days prior to the shootout with police.

Dashcam Footage Shows Wild End to Police Pursuit in Little Rock, Arkansas
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Little Rock, Arkansas — On May 20, 2023, at 3:21 p.m. Arkansas State Police Trooper Jackson Shumate initiated a traffic stop on a black GMC Sierra, at US Highway 67 South at the 3 mile marker along with Trooper T. Van Schoyck and Trooper A. Escamilla. The vehicle was known to be driven by 42-year-old Christopher Monroe. Arkansas State Police said before this chase, Monroe was already wanted for drug traffic charges out of Sherwood, Arkansas. On May 4th, 2023 he fled from ASP before doing the same on the 19th. Ten days prior, police in Rockwell County, Texas put out a warrant for his arrest for evading in a motor vehicle.
Police attempted to box him in, bur failed and the chase was on. At one point early in the interaction Trooper T. Van Schoyck attempts to PIT the vehicle but ends up failing and sliding into a concrete barrier instead. Despite that failure to stop the vehicle, the police continue to chase Monroe as speeds climb. Monroe and the police cars following him cross over the Arkansas River going around 120 mph (193 km/h). Monroe then turns around and makes it only a few blocks before being hit from behind by police, which causes him to roll his truck. The GMC eventually hits a brick wall and comes to a stop on its wheels.
Because of how forceful the crash is, the police car itself almost flips. Later, Monroe is removed from the car by police who had surrounded it. Police found 64 grams of ecstasy, 100 grams of meth, 436 grams of cocaine, 89 grams of fentanyl pills, 182 grams of marijuana, 12 grams of heroin, and 46 grams of Xanax. Along with a Taurus handgun and numerous drug paraphernalia, Monroe also had $8,612 in cash in the car. He was charged with trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, possession of narcotics and methamphetamine with intent to deliver, felony fleeing, simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, aggravated assault of law enforcement and criminal mischief.

Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the armed suspect who had refused to comply with officers for approximately 3 and a half hours. Additional SFPD resources and SFFD medics were on scene to assist with the incident.
Police say Barrios threw his gun down at one point but remained close to the weapon. Authorities say he held SFPD Ingleside and tactical officers at bay while drinking wine and vodka. Police say he ignored or could not hear officers' commands because he was wearing headphones. Authorities say he became more animated after snorting cocaine. As officers were attempting to negotiate with Barrios, he picked up the firearm and that's when an officer-involved shooting occurred. One officer fired his rifle, three other fired less-lethal weapons. Barrios was transported to the hospital. Despite the life-saving efforts of the emergency responders and medical staff Barrios succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.

Bodycam Shows Suspect Being Shot by Fresno Police Officer After Shooting in Alleyway
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fresno, California — On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, shortly before 7:00 P.M., Fresno police received reports of a gunshot heard in the alley parallel to the 2600 Block of North Fresno Street. Multiple 9-1-1 callers said they heard the shot and screaming from a group of people in the alley. Investigators later learned that a family disturbance escalated, and one family member shot another. One of the family members told dispatch that her son had been shot by her son-in-law. When officers arrived, the scene was chaotic. Officers contacted the gunshot victim, whose face, neck, and chest were covered in blood. Officers were told the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Richard Castrillo, was further down the alley, and he still had a gun in his possession.
As officers approached Castrillo, they saw him struggling on the ground with another male and a female standing next to them. The male was later identified as the gunshot victim’s father and the female was later identified as the gunshot victim’s sister. An officer told the male and female to “move out of the way” multiple times and they eventually complied. The officer told Castrillo to “drop the gun,” which he was holding in his right hand. Castrillo raised the gun and pointed it at the officers and other bystanders in the alley. The officer discharged his service weapon, striking Castrillo. Officers then approached Castrillo, removed the handgun, and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. Castrillo was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable but critical condition. Castrillo is facing several felony charges including assault with a firearm and a felon possessing a firearm.

Fort Worth Officer Shoots Woman Armed With Knife
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fort Worth, Texas — On May 22, 2023, shortly after 11:30 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 5900 block of Greenspoint Drive, near Boca Raton Boulevard and Oakland Hills Drive. The caller, 20-year-old Kaitlyn Balogun, told dispatchers she was “bleeding out” and that she wanted to harm herself, police said. The officer is seen knocking on the door before yelling “Police, open the door” twice. After the second time, Balogun opens the door and says “hello,” to which the officer responds “What’s going on? Talk to me.” Balogun then ran to pick up a knife that was on the floor, the video shows.
The officer yells “Drop the knife — do it now” and the woman, crying, repeatedly pleads “Shoot me” and “please.” “I don’t want to shoot you, drop the knife,” the officer says. According to Fort Worth PD, Balogun had the knife in a tight grip pointed at the officer, but the officer was at the edge of the staircase with no room to retreat further. The video shows the officer fire her gun, striking Balogun once in the hip. Balogun dropped the knife and fell backward in the apartment. The officer went into the apartment to provide aid. A second officer arrived just after the shooting. Balogun was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and was released from the hospital later that night. She was booked into the Tarrant County jail on a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant, and has since been released, court records show.

Tucson Police Officer Shoots Suspect Who Pointed Gun at Him
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Tucson, Arizona — On March 14, 2023, the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team was activated for a Tucson Police Department Officer involved shooting near East Grant Road and North Treat Avenue. Shortly before 3:30 p.m. the Tucson Public Safety Communications Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls from a dispensary, reporting an armed robbery with a firearm in progress. Dispatchers were also told by a caller, that the suspect was last seen fleeing westbound armed with a firearm. Surveillance video from the business shows the suspect jumping over the counter and pointing a firearm at an employee. Officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to the 2700 block of East Grant Road. The officers were provided with a description of the adult male suspect.
Officers began searching the area on foot for the suspect. Shortly after, a Sergeant located the suspect inside an occupied restaurant, in the vicinity of the initial robbery. During the encounter with the suspect, the Sergeant gave the male multiple commands to get on the ground. The suspect refused to comply and pointed a handgun at the officers. The Sergeant discharged his rifle and retreated to an area of cover. Additional officers from Tucson Police Department were dispatched to the incident including the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and Hostage Negotiations Unit. Officers believe the suspect continued to pose in an immediate threat to the community and the reports of community members hiding inside the restaurant.
Officers later learned that the community members were able to escape from the restaurant uninjured. Numerous attempts were made to establish communication with the suspect. After there was no response from the suspect, SWAT personnel entered the restaurant and located the suspect with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No community members or officers were injured in this incident. The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Nicholas Mauro Sosa. The Tucson Police Sergeant who discharged his rifle has been identified as Sgt. Jesse Chlopowicz, a 14-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department.
