DS-7: Learn to perform tactical reloads
LEARN TO SHOOT — LEARN TO PERFORM TACTICAL RELOADS
If you find yourself in a defensive shooting situation, it’s important not to run out of ammunition. Performing a tactical reload lets you continue the shooting activity with a fully loaded gun.
In this video:
— We’ll help you learn the steps involved in performing a tactical reload.
— When you perform a tactical reload, you’re exchanging a partially empty magazine that’s in your gun, for another full magazine that you’re carrying on your person.
— The time to perform a tactical reload is when there is a lull in the shooting activity, and you’re protected behind cover.
— When practicing this skill, your objective is to get good at changing magazines quickly.

DS-6: Learn to shoot on the move without tripping
LEARN TO SHOOT — LEARN TO SHOOT ON THE MOVE WITHOUT TRIPPING
In many defensive shooting situations you’ll be moving from one position to another, and often shooting while you’re doing it. You don’t want to trip and fall down. That’s a position you don’t want to be in.
In this video:
— We’re going to show you two ways to shoot on the move without tripping.
— These methods work in many shooting situations where you need to move from one position to another, without running.
— When practicing these methods, your objective is to avoid crossing your feet over one another, which can lead to tripping.

DS-5: Learn to assess for additional threats
LEARN TO SHOOT — LEARN TO ASSESS FOR ADDITIONAL THREATS
Bad guys often work in pairs or even groups. Just because you’ve stopped your immediate threat, doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. The time to assess for additional threats is whenever there’s a lull in the shooting activity. Your objective is to sweep the entire 360-degree environment around you, without missing any area.
In this video:
— We’ll help you learn how to assess for additional threats in the 360-degree environment around you.
— Even though you’ve stopped an immediate threat, there may be other threats behind you.
— Identifying these threats prevents being surprised by them.

DS-4: Learn the difference between concealment and cover
LEARN TO SHOOT — LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONCEALMENT AND COVER
Cover prevents you from being seen AND stops bullets. Concealment prevents you from being seen but DOES NOT stop bullets. If a bad guy is shooting your direction, you want to get behind something like a concrete pillar, which will serve as cover.
In this video:
— We demonstrate the difference between concealment and cover.
— One of them will stop bullets. The other won’t.
— If you’re ever in a shooting situation, knowing the difference may save your life.

Live-Fire Training: Get your heart pumping, then quickly engage threats
If you are ever in a shooting situation, it is likely you would be under stress with your heart pounding. In this scenario our instructor simulates this by placing the trainees under stress before confronting a threat. The trainees begin by striking against a martial arts paddle. You will see in the video that they are in a rotational sequence. This means each one has been striking for perhaps a couple of minutes before moving downrange to shoot.

Experienced Shooters: Why Train Beginners?
We get many students in our classes who have never handled a gun. Now many of them are shooting with us in open bay tactical events. So what makes us want to train beginners? Here are two reasons.
First, there is a big demand for beginners training, driven by record sales to new gun owners. Our beginners classes fill up quickly, and many come back later for more training.
The second reason we want to train beginners is out of a sense of civic duty. Our founders guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms for a reason. They were fresh off a fight against tyranny, and understood it could happen again. By training beginners, we feel like we’re helping out in our own small way.

When you see a gun always assume it is loaded and will fire if you pull the trigger
WHEN YOU SEE A GUN — ALWAYS ASSUME IT IS LOADED AND WILL FIRE IF YOU PULL THE TRIGGER
—If it has a Safety, assume the Safety is off and in the Firing Position.
—Do not touch the Trigger until you have unloaded the gun.
—For semi-auto pistols, assume there are Rounds in the Magazine.
—Also assume there is one in the Chamber.
—For revolvers, assume there are Rounds in the Cylinder.
Always follow these assumptions, regardless of what anyone else tells you…
