Finding Profitable Products to Sell on Amazon, Getting Ungated, Shipping
Do gated products remain a mystery to you? Do you want to ship products directly to Amazon? What if no products on a product list look profitable? Today we're answering all of your questions in a special Q & A episode. If you're searching for answers to your own Amazon questions, submit your question and be featured on the next Q & A episode. Ungate Products
There are some products that Amazon deems risky. Maybe they're too difficult to sell or maybe Amazon has seen one too many knockoffs. As a result, Amazon gates products such as watches, DVDs, and groceries. So how do you open the gates? To begin with, prove yourself a strong seller. Also consider testing a small unit of products and sending Amazon a paid invoice from the reputable brand or distributor that sells that product.
Shipping Straight to Amazon
While it's always great to ship test orders directly to your house to inspect them and ensure everything is in order for shipment, shipping directly to Amazon is certainly more convenient once you're farther down the line. Unfortunately, some brands won't allow this. But if you build strong relationships and position your ask as a request to print the shipping labels yourself, you'll be surprised at the number of brands willing to change their standard shipping practices for you.
Where's The Profit?
Are you plugging product after product into an analyzer and seeing dismal ROIs? Welcome to Amazon Wholesale! While this may feel discouraging, it's important to remember that your relationships with brands will unlock key discounts and these discounts are the basis of your profitability. And remember, it's a numbers game. You should be opening 50 accounts per week to find enough products to generate a profit. Yet another reason to outsource parts of the account opening process with VAs! Don’t Jump The Gun
When do you stay the course and when do you plunge head-first into a new venture? Todd took a full-time position in order to reinvest the profits from Amazon back into his business and still pay day-to-day expenses. When it comes to selling on Amazon, wait until your sales reach double your day job’s salary before quitting the 9-5 and making Amazon your full-time gig.
Remain Goal-Oriented
Todd breaks down several of his financial goals – reaching $100,000 in monthly sales and investing business profits into rental real estate. As you start a business venture and that venture begins to grow, it’s important to develop definitive goals. Making dough is great, but setting specific financial goals and long-term milestones will keep you on track and remind you of your future financial priorities, not just what’s in your wallet today.
Success Is Out There...Take It!
Do you feel guilty chasing your professional aspirations? As if the piece of pie you’ve earned is inevitably snatching a slice from someone else? Cut this mentality and remember that there’s plenty to go around, the pie is ever expanding. Fight for what’s yours!
Not to mention, the percentage of shopping done through e-commerce is expected to grow over the next several years. While there may be many others beginning an online venture as a result, only a small percentage will stick with it. Be the one who follows through!

Because of the small investment required, selling Amazon Wholesale is a low-risk option. Amazon has plenty of tools to help new sellers determine what will be profitable, eliminating risk and helping you navigate the first few steps.

EA3 : Amazon Wholesale Category Selection, Order Quantities and Cash Flow
As a new Amazon wholesaler, it’s difficult to get started selecting an Amazon category to sell in, deciding on order quantities, and managing cash flow. These skills primarily comes with experience and involve a lot of moving parts. When compared to finding new products to sell and showing off your products it isn’t the most exciting task on your to-do list. But if you don’t get it right, it’s going to impact your business from top to bottom. Thankfully, it is not as difficult as you might think if you know the right things to look at.
Always Keep Learning
When I myself got started, it was a kind of learning curve for me as I failed often and failed forward. But most importantly, I learned from my mistakes and made the most out of them. At first you may find it a little difficult, too. To overcome this and to know the challenges that you are going to face listen to this episode.
From my experience as a coach the primary challenges faced by beginners who are trying to explore the world of Amazon wholesale are: category selection, order quantity, and, above all, cash flow. You don’t need to be an expert on them; but having the basic ideas will help you grow without making those widespread mistakes that could hamper your growth in the first place. This episode is entirely concentrated on those basics.
Know Your Categories
For instance, having the proper knowledge of your product categories will give you the boost to deal with your suppliers or distributors. It will give you the confidence to answer relevant questions. So, knowing something about a specific category could really help making things easier for you when just getting started. Knowing the ins and outs of the categories will give you a much needed edge.
Be Sure Of Your Order Quantities
Determining the right order quantities is another tricky part of the Amazon wholesale deal. People often shy away from considering it as a crucial part of their business strategy. Before placing a bulk order on the basis of a rough estimate, it is always wiser to do some small scale orders which will save you both time and money. Instead of making big orders, you can try out some small purchases to see what works for you the best.
Cash Flow Management
A huge cash flow doesn’t necessarily mean that your business is doing well. There are many hidden costs and risk factors that might cut down your profit. This podcast pays special focus on this segment, while including factors that play a pivotal role, too. Besides ROI, inventory management is something that you can’t overlook. There are some common mistakes that all Amazon wholesalers make. The problem is when you repeat them and fail to learn from them. Private Label
Although many swear by it, private label is a tough gig – and even more so now. What is private label? Simply put, it's the process of choosing a category (i.e. dog products) and creating products within that category to sell on Amazon. Essentially, you must create your own brand from the ground up, a venture many are unprepared to tackle. Especially given the flux of Chinese sellers entering the marketplace with unbeatable prices and knockoff products popping up left and right.
Nevertheless, if you're sold on private label, check out Scott Voelker for some top-notch advice.
Bottom Line? Despite the success stories, private label remains the toughest avenue on Amazon to pursue.
Retail Arbitrage
Arbitrage is a great place to learn the ropes. What is arbitrage? Retail or online arbitrage involves buying products from local stores like Goodwill and Walmart (or online) and reselling them on Amazon. While it's a simple process, if you're caught in a liability rut, Amazon won't accept a receipt from Target as bail. While a great place to learn, Arbitrage is hard to scale and therefore tough to sustain.
Bottom Line? Arbitrage is a great place to start out, but don't stay for too long.
Wholesale
Out of the three entrances to Amazon, wholesale has the most opportunity. As private label and retail arbitrage get harder, wholesale stands above the rest. What is wholesale? In short, wholesale means buying established products from suppliers to resell on Amazon. Luckily you can find ways to predict a product's profitability. Not to mention, Amazon will always take receipts from brands and distributors if your account is ever flagged.
Selling wholesale requires a smaller investment and because you're typically buying products from your own country or the country you're selling in, you can get products in just two weeks.
Bottom Line? While not an "easy" path by any means, wholesale presents the least risk with a high return on investment.
