Neocon Hate For Russia Makes A European Settlement With Moscow Impossible Dr. Anatol Lieven (1/2)
If there was no Russia, you would have to invent it, even just for the US to try to destroy it. There is something deeply rooted in neocons that makes them crave for a good enemy, preferably someone to demonise as a primordial evil that fits into their manichean world view.
Anatol's Essay on Europe and Sarkozy's proposal: https://responsiblestatecraft.org/2023/08/31/sarkozy-vilified-for-speaking-uncomfortable-truths-about-ukraine/
Anatol Lieven is Director of the Eurasia Program at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. He was formerly a professor at Georgetown University in Qatar and in the War Studies Department of King’s College London.
Last week he published a wonderful article with the title “Sarkozy vilified for speaking uncomfortable truths about Ukraine” in which he argues that our beloved mass media is ignoring what sarkozy said and instead just condemms him for saying the obvious.

On Stupidity | By Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Von der Dummheit: https://de.wikisource.org/wiki/Von_der_Dummheit
Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease.
Against stupidity we are defenseless.
Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed — in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical — and when facts are irrefutable, they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack.
For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.
If we want to know how to get the better of stupidity, we must seek to understand its nature. This much is certain, that it is in essence not an intellectual defect but a human one. There are human beings who are of remarkably agile intellect yet stupid, and others who are intellectually quite dull yet anything but stupid.
We discover this to our surprise in particular situations. The impression one gains is not so much that stupidity is a congenital defect, but that, under certain circumstances, people are made stupid or that they allow this to happen to them.
We note further that people who have isolated themselves from others or who live in solitude manifest this defect less frequently than individuals or groups of people inclined or condemned to sociability. And so it would seem that stupidity is perhaps less a psychological than a sociological problem.
It is a particular form of the impact of historical circumstances on human beings, a psychological concomitant of certain external conditions. Upon closer observation, it becomes apparent that every strong upsurge of power in the public sphere, be it of a political or of a religious nature, infects a large part of humankind with stupidity.
It would even seem that this is virtually a sociological-psychological law. The power of the one needs the stupidity of the other.
The process at work here is not that particular human capacities, for instance, the intellect, suddenly atrophy or fail. Instead, it seems that under the overwhelming impact of rising power, humans are deprived of their inner independence, and, more or less consciously, give up establishing an autonomous position toward the emerging circumstances.
The fact that the stupid person is often stubborn must not blind us to the fact that he is not independent. In conversation with him, one virtually feels that one is dealing not at all with a person, but with slogans, catchwords and the like that have taken possession of him. He is under a spell, blinded, misused, and abused in his very being. Having thus become a mindless tool, the stupid person will also be capable of any evil and at the same time incapable of seeing that it is evil. This is where the danger of diabolical misuse lurks, for it is this that can once and for all destroy human beings.
Yet at this very point it becomes quite clear that only an act of liberation, not instruction, can overcome stupidity.
Here we must come to terms with the fact that in most cases a genuine internal liberation becomes possible only when external liberation has preceded it. Until then we must abandon all attempts to convince the stupid person.
This state of affairs explains why in such circumstances our attempts to know what ‘the people’ really think are in vain and why, under these circumstances, this question is so irrelevant for the person who is thinking and acting responsibly. The word of the Bible that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom declares that the internal liberation of human beings to live the responsible life before God is the only genuine way to overcome stupidity.
But these thoughts about stupidity also offer consolation in that they utterly forbid us to consider the majority of people to be stupid in every circumstance. It really will depend on whether those in power expect more from people’s stupidity than from their inner independence and wisdom.

BRICS Will Empower Africa To Finally Break With Neocolonial Apartheid | Rutendo Matinyarare
While apartheid in South Africa was officially ended as a political creed, its institutions were never dismantled. What's worse, the regional dominance of South Africa assures that other countries on the continent are suffering from "tickle down apartheid" with their banking and industrial sectors stifled by the Bretton Woods neoliberal consensus and western debt trap policies.
Rutendo Matinyarare is a Zimbabwean anti-sanctions activist and political analyst on African Affairs. Today we want to talk about the recent BRICS summit, what it means for Africa, and finally also about the African Banking System that is being weaponised by western states to implement neo-colonial projects.

How War Mentality is Driving Ukraine and Europe to Suicide Pascals Rant in the Alps
Europe's love for war is showing its ugly face again, driven by the apostles of western values. The spiral of death that Europe and Russia are engaged in and over which Ukraine is being slaughtered is a deeply European mental flaw, believing in their superior morals, justice, and virtue. Coupled with relentless propaganda and a willing money-elite, the Europeans would rather see Ukraine destroyed than in an "unjust peace". Pascal talks through the logic of war and why all sides of this conflict are willing to let the working class bleed than opting for a compromise.
Europe needs help. Please, someone, force them back into reason. Ideology eats brain.

Neocons and Neolibs are Destroying Sri Lanka while Blaming China Dr Asoka Bandarage
Sri Lanka is a model case for the sick neocolonialism the West is implementing in developing countries. Even worse, the US and Europe even have the gall to accuse China of exactly the malevolent practices that they have been implementing forever. Hypocrisy is reaching a new fever pitch.
To prevent Sri Lanka from pivoting anywhere else but into the US security fold, the West has tapped into local grievances and is with its unforgiving posture on Sri Lankan debt causing immense pain and regime change.
Dr. Asoka Bandarage is a Sri Lankan academic specialising in international development, political economy, conflict analysis and more. She taught at Yale, Mount Holyoke, Georgetown, and other universities in the US and abroad.
Her latest book is “Crisis in Sri Lanka and the World” in which she analyses colonial and neoliberal origins of Sri Lanka’s woes, arguing that the same mechanisms keep much of the developing world in a state of poverty and constant internal struggle. Dr. Bandarage also wrote an excellent short article for neutralitystudies.com, in which she summarises the issues of her book. The link will be below.

West Beware Russian Foreign Policy Just Got A Big Upgrade Alexander Konkov and Matthew Crosston
Western media is obsessed with portraying Russian actions on the world stage either as crazy or as erratic. Neither is the case. Russia has constantly been communicating its foreign policy priorities and objectives, and it has been following the strategies it proclaimed closely. In this episode Alexander Konkov and Matthew Crosston help analyse the newest itineration of Russia's "Foreign Policy Concept," making the point that Russia is getting bolder and more proactive.
Dr. Alexander E. Konkov is an Associate Professor at Moscow State University where he works at the Department of Political Analysis. And Dr. Matthew Crosston is an expert in Russian foreign policy at Bowie State University where he serves as the director of the Academic Transformation Devision.
Earlier this year, Alexander wrote an interesting analysis with the title “Rules for a Game whiteout Rules” in which he breaks down Russias new Foreign Policy Concept that was approved by the Kremlin on March 31. Matthew shared this paper on his social media so I thought I would invite both of them to discuss the new document, how to interpret it, and what it means for the future of Russian Foreign Policy.

Europeans Cant Believe BRICS Summit Success | Heinz Gartner | Neutrality Studies
Professor Heinz Gärtner and Pascal discuss the 2023 Brics Summit meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa and the stunning successes it brought about. Especially the inclusion of Saudi Arabia and Iran—two arch enemies—in this emerging bloc is a stunning success. Meanwhile, Europe mostly ignores the tectonic shifts in international relations. Let's see how long they can turn a cold shoulder to this challenge.

Its Not Just A Proxy War Its Worse | Dr Friedrich Glasl | Neutrality Studies
The war in Ukraine consists of at least three interlinking conflicts and can not be resolved without de-escalating all of them says the 'father' of modern conflict theory, Dr. Dr. Friedrich Glasl. In his analysis he shows how to best conceptualise the intricate net of conflicts that are raging in and around Ukraine.
Dr. Glasl was born in Vienna, in 1941. He dedicated his academic work to researching conflicts and organisational systems getting his PhD in international conflict prevention in 1967. Later he ventured into the field of economics and management theory, building up his own management consultancy in which he applied his theory to improve companies and help them manage conflicts.
One of the keys to his work is understanding that conflicts themselves are not bad, but that they need to be managed and resolved responsibly instead of through strategies of violence.

Violence Explained | Scientifically Father Of Conflict Theory Speaks | Dr Friedrich Glasl
Dr. Friedrich Glasl, father of modern conflict theory, explains why even after 100 years of trying to outlaw and study international relations we still end in inter-state conflicts that spiral into all-out warfare.
Dr. Glasl was born in Vienna, in 1941. He dedicated his academic work to researching conflicts and organisational systems getting his PhD in international conflict prevention in 1967. "Our Hemisphere" (!!!) Trump and Carlson's Imperial Mindset #foreignpolicy #2024elections #trump
It doesn't matter who rules the US, the imperial mindset is backed deep, deep into the US. Carlson and Trump want to get out of Ukraine for the US to get tough on China and they have no problem whatsoever of just calling dips on an entire hemisphere and call for US control over Panama, the Caribbean, etc. Even after 200 years, the Monroe Doctrine reigns supreme.

Truthophobia: How The Boomers Broke Journalism | Dr. Graham Majin
Why is the majority of Mainstream News, especially “respectable” news in TV and Newspapers today so utterly riddled with ideology, hit-pieces, falsehoods and outright lies. From the New York Times to BBC’s Evening News, were we should find reporting about what happened, we find spin and opinions that tell us what to think rather than what is going on. How did it all happen? On this channel, I have attributed a lot of blame on ideological schools, especially the neocons and culture war leftism but my guest today has a different theory. It’s a actually a generational issue.
This is neutrality studies and I’m joined today by Dr. Graham Majin, a senior lecturer in Documentary Journalsim at Bournemouth University and the author of “Truthphobia - How the Boomers Broke Journalism”
Dr Graham Majin has more than 20 years experience working in TV news, factual filmmaking and media production. He has been an on-screen reporter, news editor and senior producer – including 14 years at BBC News, during which time he regularly edited the evening news for London and the South East.

Woke Wars And Gay Bombs. The Latest Iteration Of U.S. Ideological Militarism | Christopher Mott
The US military went from “don’t ask don’t tell” to celebrating Pride Month. And that is just one of countless changes by which the national security state is adopting with the intend to co-opd social norms to justify militarism, foreign intervention, and empire building. In this talk, Christopher Mott talks about his seminal paper on “The Woke Imperium” which lays out some of the social mechanisms through which this latest itineration of believe in the messianic duties of the US is taking shape.

Ex-Agent: US Ignores Its Own Intel And Uses Spy Agencies For Internal Propaganda | Graham Fuller
Just as Seymour Hersh wrote in his latest piece on Substack, US politicians ignore information from their own intelligence agencies. Former CIA Agent, Graham Fuller, talks about his 25 years at the agency, the job of a spy, and the many shortcomings of the way intelligence is used in today's political environment. Politicians cherry pick intelligence and disregard most of the insights the agency produces while some politicians and news papers like to dress up any propaganda as "intelligence" from "secret" sources. This is not what the CIA is supposed to be.
Ambassador Chas Freeman recommended Graham Fuller, for a talk about the link between intelligence agencies and foreign policy. Mr. Fuller is uniquely qualified to talk about it not only because he used to work for the CIA, but he did so during the hight of the cold war, mostly in the middle east, or as Ambassador Freeman recommends calling it, West Asia.
Graham Fuller was born in 1937 and, in his own words, always expected to become an academic, but his draft board deemed otherwise. He was drafted and sent into intelligence work as a CIA operations officer in Turkey, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Hong Kong, after which he became an analyst at the agency and later joined the RAND corporation, the famous conservative West-Coast think tank.

It's Worse Than Apartheid In South Africa for Palestine | U.N. Judge John Dugard
U.N. Judge John Dugard, a South African national, explains how the Palestinians are living in conditions even worse than those suffered by his black compatriots in South Africa before the horrible apartheid regime fell. He also talks about why for the case of Palestine, international law makes everything worse. The fact that the Israeli Government simply ignores any and all provisions of international law takes away the last instrument that suppressed peoples have to appeal to a law beyond the nation. The inhumane treatment of the Palestinians is unbearable but as long as international pressure dose not arise, there is nothing international law can do to help this poor, colonised community.
John Dugard was a professor and the Dean of the Law Faculty at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannisburg and later a full Professor at the University of Leiden. He served 3 times as a judge for the International Court of Justice and was for 14 years a member of the United Nation’s International Law Commission, which is the UN’s main body responsible for codifying new international law. He was also working on many other international law assignments.
Professor Dugard is also a long-standing advocate for equal rights in his home South Africa and in Palestine where he has several times worked and spoken-out for the rights of the Palestinians.

U.N. Judge Explains: The "Rules Based Order" Is A Con-Job | John Dugard
International law doesn't know any "Rules Based International Order" as the Biden administration keeps repeating over and over again. Listen to the highly experienced Judge Christopher John Robert Dugard, one of the most knowledgable people on this planet when it comes to international law addressing this problem.
In fact, anyone who cares about International law should be deeply worried about the US trying to establish a new rivalling concept to the established norms of regular IL. If this takes hold, it will free up states to adhere even less to the regulations set out in the UN charter. The US is already one of the biggest spoilers of international law making by not signing on to basic multilateral treaties like the 1977 Protocols to the Geneva convention or the UN Convention on the Law of The Sea (UNCLOS), or even the Rome Statute that is the founding document of the International Criminal Court. However, the US is very happy to wag its finger at anyone it percieves as braking the rules it invents out of the blue when ever needed and "un-invents" them (in the words of Chas Freeman) when ever inconvenient.

Ukraine Is The Latest Victim Of US Imperialism Because Neocons Want Total Dominance | Jeffrey Sachs
Neocons are not interested in peace or stability, only full-spectrum dominance and total control over global politics can satisfy them. And those are the people at the helm of US foreign policy, Victoria Nuland, Anthony Blinken, Joe Biden. Their relentless and unforgiving push for total control has pushed Ukraine into becoming NATO's bloody spearhead and they are trying to pull-off the same trick again with Taiwan right now. Don't fall for it. Even neutral and nonaligned nations are in the crosshairs of US warmongers.

Dr. Jeffrey Sachs is one of the United States’ most outstanding and humanistic public intellectuals. He is a professor and the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University. He is a man who researches and then actually speaks out about the things others barely dare to contemplate, be that about the corona craziness or about the war-path his country is on.

The Origins Of The Neocons And Their Lunatic World View | A History With Professor Michael Brenner
Neocons are about the most dangerous species in international relations today. They are the kind of people who would rather see a million dead than chose a cooperative framework to resolve a (perceived) problem. Let's remember the memorable words of Ultra-Neocon Madeleine Albright: When asked in 1992 at an interview if half a million dead Iraqi Children which the US sanctions on the country had caused was worth it, Albright replied: “I think that is a very hard choice, but the price, we think, the price is worth it.” (https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2022/3/25/lets-remember-madeleine-albright-as-who-she-really-was). If Hitler came back, he'd be a neocon.
In this talk, professor emeritus Michael Brenner gives a comprehensive overview of the genesis and development of US neocons and the damage they are causing in international relations.

Neocons Will Blame Anyone But Themselves For Losing Ukraine | With James W. Carden
James' Article: https://www.theamericanconservative.com/the-coming-battle-who-lost-ukraine
James Carden is a Journalist whose writings have appeared in many newspaper and magazines, including The Nation, UnHeard, and the LA Times.
James once was an adviser to the US-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission under President Obama and he is currently a board member of the American Committee for US Russia Accord.
James recently wrote a fantastic article entitled “The Coming Battle for ‘Who Lost Ukraine?’” in which he lays out that the same people who caused the Ukraine war in the first place will go to great lengths to justify why loosing it will be the fault of those of us who opposed this proxy-war in the first place.

Ukrainian Pacifist Investigated By Zelenskyy Gov For Peace Activism | Messg From Yurii Sheliazhenko
I'm sharing a video message from Yurii Sheliazhenko. His official channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/@UCrCgqN5Nhic-gwjgJK_P9ng
Pacifism, like neutralism, is always hated by everyone who would rather see a solution to their (imagined) conflicts emerge from a bloody battle with as many dead "enemies" as possible. That's why warmongers on both side will tell you that pacifism and neutralism is idealistic, can't work, is stupid, and unrealistic. Please note that academic realists will never argue that but tell you that there are very good and sound arguments for both concepts. First and foremost, pacifist policies (which are different from personal pacifism) deescalate the security dilemma because it makes a state non-threatening. Just ask yourself: who is afraid of Switzerland? No one. Although Switzerland has a large conscript army and is anything but pacifist on a personal level, it uses pacific military doctrines and military foreign policies which make sure Switzerland is never ever seen as a threat. That's why tiny little Lichtenstein has no problem with big Switzerland being a highly militaristic neighbour. It's just not a problem. Pacific foreign policies are not a sign of weakness, they are a sign of sanity.

US Hegemony In The Middle East Is Over | West Asia Will Define Its Own Future | US Amb. Chas Freeman
Essay available here: https://chasfreeman.net/the-middle-east-is-once-again-west-asia
Many thanks to the Middle East Forum of Falmouth (MEFF) for the fantastic talk! Check out their talks at http://www.meff.world
Beginning of Ambassador Freeman's Essay:
Title: The Middle East is Once Again West Asia
Date: August 6, 2023
Names make a difference. Those who confer them reveal their perspectives on the places and peoples they are naming.
Over the course of the 16th to the 19th centuries, Europeans conquered and colonized the world, imposing their self-centered perspectives on its geography. For them, the Ottoman Empire was “the Near East,” a region encompassing West Asia, Southeast Europe, and Northeast Africa. Then, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the United States became the preeminent component of the self-styled “West,” a trans-Atlantic perspective supplanted the European one. From the point of view of Americans, the lands within the collapsing Ottoman Empire were an intermediate zone between Europe – the Eurasian subcontinent to the East of the United States – and the Indian subcontinent.[1] That’s why Alfred Thayer Mahan decided they should be called the “Middle East,” not the “Near East.” In time, even the people who lived there began to use this American-minted term. The largest newspaper in the Arab world is الشرق الأوسط – which means “the Middle East.”
The Birth of the Nation-State in West Asia
The name persists, but the people living in the region no longer acquiesce in foreign definitions of their homelands’ place in world affairs. Ottoman cosmopolitanism disappeared when the Ottoman Empire and the Caliphate expired. After flirting with a variety of transnational ideological identities – including pan-Arabism, Ba`athism, Judaism, Sunni, and Shi`ite Islamism – the region’s peoples have redefined themselves as “nation states.” Türkiye[2] and the fragments of the Ottoman Sultanate’s Levantine territories carved into semi-independent, neo-colonially administered countries by British and French bureaucrats have acquired well-defined international personalities. Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria have come to embrace strong national identities that have survived multiple external and internal challenges to their existence.
Iran has broken with its neocolonialist patrons, installed a defiantly independent Shi`ite government, and asserted its own sphere of influence in West Asia. In this century alone, Iraq has experienced a period of governance as a “thugdom,” an anarchy imposed by a botched American effort at hit-and-run democratization, and the slaughter by foreign and domestic forces of at least half a million of its population. Israel has degenerated from the vaguely humanistic vision of early Jewish nationalism to today’s Zionist negation of universal Jewish values. The indigenous people of Palestine have been the continuous object of relentless genocidal dispossession and brutal oppression by the Zionist settler state. Lebanon, once the playground of French confessional politics and Arab hedonism, has become ungovernable. Syria has been isolated, vivisected, and devastated by coalitions of domestic forces supported by external actors, including the Gulf Arabs, Israel, Türkiye, and the United States. Syria continues to be the locus of a variety of proxy wars, including between Israel and Iran, Russia and the United States, and Türkiye and Kurdish separatists.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, once proudly pan-Islamist rather than pan-Arabist or nationalist, has embraced nationalism. It celebrates its official founding as a state in 1932 and employs the international – not the Hijra – calendar to do so. Egypt retains its distinctive character and cultural identity under a comprehensive military dictatorship. Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) practice independent foreign policies and exercise influence not just regionally but globally. Kuwait – which is surrounded by Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia – is appropriately cautious. Bahrain defers to Saudi Arabia and serves it as a useful proxy in contacts with Israel and the United States military.
Geopolitical Centrality
What has not changed is West Asia’s geopolitical centrality. It is where Africa, Asia, and Europe and the routes that connect them meet. The region’s cultures cast a deep shadow across northern Africa, Central, South and Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. It is the epicenter of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the three “Abrahamic religions” that together shape the faiths and moral standards of over three-fifths of humankind. This gives the region global reach......

Clare Daly Is NOT Having It! | An Insult Goes Wrong | The Monthly Daly - May 2023
See what happens when a EU parliamentarian thinks he can insult Clare Daly as a "Putin Puppet". Clare will not have this kind of insults. Beyond that, in May there were several discussions in the EU parliament about foreign affars and human rights, and Clare, as always, calls out the hypocrisy when the EU tries to brandmark some countries as offenders of the good order while leaving others untouched and unmentioned.
1) 5/8 Act in support of ammunition production
Corks must be popping in Europe’s arms industry. Ukraine is the global opportunity for profit
2) 5/9 Report on Kosovo
Pretending all is fluffy and rosy in Kosovo a huge mistake and deeply undemocratic.
3) 5/9 - Report on Serbia
Serbia is entitled to have good relations with Russia
4) 5/9 Situation in Sudan
This isn’t about what we must do, but what we have to stop doing. The EU has to stop paying warlords to improve the situation in Sudan.
5) 5/10 Weaponisation of Human Rights for Foreign Policy
Belarus is not the only country with political prisoners. Why is the EU blind on all the human rights abuses by the US and by its own member states? The weaponisation of human rights discourse has to stop. Human rights need to be upheld everywhere and not selectively!
6) 5/10 Algeria
The way the EU deals with Algeria as a cheap source of oil despite a horrible human rights and press freedom record shows the hypocrisy of the EU.
7) 5/10 EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework
The US creates problems and gasslights the EU into accepting them. This is an abusive relationship.
8) 5/10 Corruption in Ireland
Ireland is ripe with corruption. The EU should do something about it.
9) 5/31 Clare is not having it!
Clare Daly is not having these slanders and accusations
10) 5/31 Threat to Democracy by Polish Government
Counter intelligence paranoia erodes democratic values and the rule of law!

Forget NATO, Do Your Own Thing. Alliances Make The World Unsafe | Alexander Mercouris from the Duran
Welcome to the last part of the interview with Alexander Mercouris (@AlexMercouris) from @TheDuran, where we talk about the future of neutrality and how important it is not only to have intermediaries but a global system build on states that pursue their own interest instead of succumbing to the will of a megalomaniac hegemon. The US has become what the USSR used to be: an ideologically charged block that breaks all norms and respects nothing.

US/NATO Maniacs Killed The Post-Cold War Peace On Purpose | Alexander Mercouris from The Duran
This is the second segment of the interview with Alexander Mercouris (@AlexMercouris ) from @TheDuran. We talk about how and why NATO elites decided to kill the Post-Cold War peace in Europe that had set in after 1989. The poisonous idea that the US had "won" the Cold War completely distorted all decision-making, leading to some of the worst and most provocative geostrategic blunders in history. Peace was killed by those who thought they could rain with impunity and Ukraine is now paying the price of the zero-sum thinking.

Only Trust Yourself | All Governments Lie and The Media Too | Alexander Mercouris from The Duran
It's my pleasure to talk to Alexander Mercouris (@AlexMercouris ) from the Duran Youtube Channel: @TheDuran. In this first segment we talk about his work at his channels, how he does his research, and what kind of news he trusts. Spoiler alert: reasonable people vet every piece of information, trust nothing, and think for themselves.
