So, I chose to do a teaching based on a handout I made several years ago about the purpose of emotions. I include moments to pause and do brief group discussions. In this video, I teach the two main purposes of emotions: communication and motivation. If you're trying to sort through all the many voices in the Christian world when it comes to homosexuality and transgenderism, this video is for you! Jason Thompson from the Restored Hope Network member ministry Portland Fellowship made a very helpful chart that breaks the different views in the church into four categories: Revel (full LGBT-affirmation), Resist (LGBT identified but adherence to the historic Christian sexual ethic), Renounce (rejection of the LGBT identity and behaviors, with a focus on repentance and submission to God's will), and Rebuild (repentance identity and behavior as well as openness/pursuit of transformation). On May 23rd 2020 (I accidentally say June in the intro), I was invited to speak at the inaugural webinar for Strong Support, a UK-based organization for Muslims around the world who struggle with unwanted same-sex lust/same-sex attraction. The founder and director. Ali Asad Jaffery, asked me to speak about the trends in therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction/behavior. Due to the length, I am splitting this webinar into separate videos. Please note: if you are new to my channel, I am a Christian psychotherapist, but I work with individuals of various faiths, including Muslim men working through unwanted same-sex eroticization. As Ali mentioned, there are far too few Muslims trained in effective and ethical therapeutic approaches to sexual struggles. So, I appreciate Strong Support seeking to partner with non-Muslims to help equip their community to better support their members that face great distress and stigma over their sexual attractions. On 12/1/20, a high court in the UK ruled in favor of Keira Bell (and another claimant) in her lawsuit against the Tavistock Center, the NHS' sole gender reassignment clinic. Something I'm thankful for: on Nov. 20, 2020, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Boca Raton and Palm Beach County, FL's ban on therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction and gender confusion for minors was unconstitutional! The plaintiffs were Robert Otto and Julie Hamilton. The two judges that ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, Britt Grant and Barbara Lagoa, were appointed by President Trump. And the dissenting judge, Beverly Martin, was appointed by President Obama. The ruling shows the difference in the way the two types of judges honor the Constitution. Restored Hope Network, the largest umbrella organization for Christian ministries, pastors, and counselors offering help to people with unwanted same-sex attraction, homosexuality, and gender identity confusion, was just censored and de-platformed from Facebook.
