Restored Hope Network, the largest umbrella organization for Christian ministries, pastors, and counselors offering help to people with unwanted same-sex attraction, homosexuality, and gender identity confusion, was just censored and de-platformed from Facebook. This summer, Facebook and Instagram announced their plans to ban any content that promotes what they consider so-called "conversion therapy," a misleading label for any counseling, pastoral care, or even teaching that helps people change from LGBTQ identities or homosexual attractions and behaviors, as well as gender identity conflicts. Thanks to decades of well-funded propaganda by the LGBTQ lobby, most people have fallen for the myths that any counseling approach for these issues are harmful and unhelpful. I just finished watching the current two seasons of the Karate Kid spin-off show, Cobra Kai, and I was pleasantly surprised by its relevance to today. After my Theology of the Body (TOB) 1 Head and Heart Immersion Course, I have been doing reflections on currently relevant topics and applying what I'm learning from Pope John Paul II's teaching on the spiritual significance of the human body and the Image of God. I have been studying Theology of the Body (TOB) heavily during this Coronavirus period. I completed the TOB 1 Head & Heart Immersion Course online by the Theology of the Body Institute, taught by Christopher West. And I did the TOB Virtual Conference in May. My tribute to Sy Rogers, international speaker and pastoral minister in the area of sexuality. He was one of the early leaders of Exodus International, the former umbrella organization for ministries and counselors that worked with people leaving homosexuality. His life was a powerful story of pain, redemption, and perseverance. He leaves behind a legacy of others in this field--former LGBT individuals or just people inspired by his teaching and example, like myself. I got to meet Sy in 2012, and that one meeting played a part in my own story. On April 13, 2020, I got to chat with resilience educator Brooks Gibbs on his call-in Facebook Live show during the Coronavirus quarantine. Brooks is most known for some of his viral videos of his school assemblies, in which he teaches students in a very hands-on way how to handle bullying and conflict resolution. I called into his livestream and was fortunate to be his only caller that day, so we had a full conversation. He gave me some feedback on a case, and then we discussed things like emotions, psychodynamics, and Christian counseling! Such a fun conversation. Note: after watching the footage, I feel bad that I talked over him a few times.
