World War II - Ray Loyd: Part 1
This Throwback Thursday is a special one. It is Part - 1, the start of a short series of my Grandfather Ray, retelling the story of his time in the Navy during World War II. He was initially stationed aboard the USS Portland. Having joined the Navy on the 4th of July, 1942.

TILO-3Z+ Thermal Imager
Awhile ago I had the opportunity to spend some time with the TILO-3Z+ Thermal Imaging Device by Andres Industries. To be honest, it wasn't what I thought it would be. The way it was built and it's form factor allow for the unit to be worn. But in practice, the way I was using it, it didn't work very well for me. I found it to be pretty awkward to navigate with. While I wanted to attach it to a rifle optic, the adapter didn't seem to fit any standard US optic objective lenses in my experience.
You can find more information about the TILO-3Z+ here.

1st Look: B.E. Meyers MAWL
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/1st-look-mawl-c1-by-b-e-meyers/
While attending the 2019 Shooter Symposium down in Texas, I had the good fortune of putting in some time with the MAWL C1+ by B.E. Meyers. MAWL being an acronym for Modular Advanced Weapon Laser, which is exactly what it is. Featuring a green visible aiming laser as well as IR (Infra Red) aiming laser and illuminator.
My first look with this, was over the few days there at the Shooter Symposium. During that time I attended the Night Fighter Course with Chuck Pressburg of Press Check Consulting and did some training with Bill Blowers of Tap Rack Tactical. Through all of it, the MAWL did an amazing job.
The particular model I used is the MAWL C1+, which is specifically made for civilian sales. This is in part due to the lower power laser. B.E. Meyers did some amazing stuff with that lower power restriction though…
Hopefully I'll get my hands on one in the future to put in some more time with.

Uncanna Full Spectrum CBD Oil: Part - 4
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/uncanna-full-spectrum-cbd-oil-part-4/
If you have followed my journey with the Uncanna Full Spectrum CBD Oil, you have seen that it has had some great benefits for me. First and foremost among them, is improving the quality of my sleep. Sleep translates into every aspect of your life, and getting good sleep is incredibly important. For me, being well rested absolutely gives me more patience in dealing with my two young boys. This is very important for me. Another unforeseen benefit has been with the reduction of tinnitus for me. *Keeping in mind, I'm not a doctor, giving medical advice, or anything of the sort. I'm just sharing my experience with it.*
After stopping taking the Full Spectrum CBD Oil for a month and a half or so, I've revisited how I'm feeling.
Here is the TED Talk on Sleep being your Superpower.
If you would like to purchase any of the Uncanna products, you can use the code: "KITBADGER" to save 10%.

1st Look: Ferro Concepts Slickster 1.0
It is time to take a new plate carrier for a spin. After using the Brig Plate Carrier by SKD Tactical for the last 3 Tactical Games, I’m changing it up. SKD sent out the Ferro Concepts Slickster.1 Plate Carrier. While it pretty much mirrors the regular Ferro Concepts Slickster, the plate pocket is cut specifically for the SKD Tactical Level 4 Stand Alone Ballistic Plates.
Where better than to try it than some force on force training? I throw the carrier on and get some runs in at the Defensive Action Center. The DAC is a pretty cool indoor training facility that offers both UTM and SIM training. As well as hosting classes by Continuum of Force Concepts.

1st Look: Hi-Point C9 Pistol
As a statement of fact: Operator has gotta Operate. That statement has nothing to do with the following video
I recently got my hands on the Hi-Point C-9. It is their 9mm pistol which has been in production for quite a few years now. Taking my first look at the pistol, I shoot the Baer Solutions Cold Start out of the gate. Just missed the par time. After that I spend some time at the range working my way through the rest of the box of ammo provided by Minuteman Munitions. Overall, good times with this little gun. I'll check back in when I get more time with it.

1st Look: Sig P320 X5
You can find the pistol here: https://tinyurl.com/ycy5rv76
Today I take my first look at the Sig Sauer P320 X5 Coyote. Overall I think it offers some amazing upgrades right out of the box. From the flat faced trigger, 21 round factory magazines, forward slide serrations… This pistol has a lot going for it.
Since I don't have a holster for it yet, I went ahead and threw a Surefire X300 Ultra on the front rail. This let me run the pistol in the Phlstr Floodlight Holster, which indexes on the light and has room for most any pistol. I jam up some mags with some Minuteman Munitions 9mm and try my hand out the gate at with the Runenation Cold Start…

How to Replace a SureFire Pocket Clip
You can find the light here: https://amzn.to/3ztZDFh
Surefire makes some outstanding flashlights. Whether we are talking about EDC (Every Day Carry) lights, tactical flashlights or weapon mounted lights, Surefire has some great offerings. However, the pocket clip can become snagged and made unusable if it gets bent open. Fortunately there is an easy fix.
To start the process, you can reach out to Surefire customer support to get a replacement pocket clip here. After that, it is just a matter of swapping the pocket clips out. Then your light is as good as new again. In the video I demonstrate how to replace the pocket clip on my Surefire EDCL1-T flashlight.

Shooting with Mike (Mrgunsngear)
Check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvtuPgvFmA--W404WkST8GA
Occasionally you get a chance to shoot some rare pieces… Mike, from MrgunsNgear, was kind enough to let me shoot some awesome firearms. First he punished me with a Smith & Wesson 460 Performance Center, followed by the incredibly iconic Colt Python. Both were cool in their own right. I also put a few rounds through his old school clone M16-A1 with Grenade Launcher.
If you haven't subscribed to Mike's channel, you can do so here.

Baer Solutions: Pistol 1 Course
I recently had the good fortune of taking the Baer Solutions Pistol 1 Course with Drew. A solid foundational pistol course. Running you through the basic mechanics of firing a handgun, presenting, drawing and transitioning between targets as well as a number of other skills.
Drew did a great job running this course. Smoothly transitioning from skill to skill, building and pushing further and further into the material. All the while circling back and reinforcing previous topics.
If you are interested in taking one of his courses, you can find out more information here.

Trailhead Shoes by Lems
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/trailhead-shoes-by-lems/
Here is my look at the Lems Trailhead Shoes. I've been wearing them for over 6 months now. Ran them in 2 different Tactical Games events in 2019, a day of the 2019 Shooter Symposium, working out, around town and numerous range sessions.
Long story short, I think they are too narrow. They are a definite departure from the rest of the Lems line like the Primal 2 Shoes and the Boulder Boots, both of which I've previously reviewed. I do like them though. I think they are well made and good looking for a jack of all trades shoe.

Iliad Field Jacket by Prometheus Design Werx
Today I am taking a look at the Iliad Field Jacket by Prometheus Design Werx. There are a ton of jackets on the market these days, but not all are created equal. There are some really well executed design elements in this jacket. Whether you are looking to hike into the backcountry on a backpacking trip, spend a day training on the range, or pretty much any other activity where a might need a performance shell, the Iliad Field Jacket will treat you well.

1st Look: Uberleben Stoker Stove and More...
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/1st-look-uberleben-stoker-stove-and-more/
From the top of Strawberry Mountain I take a 1st look at a number of new pieces of gear. The Uberleben Stoker Flatpack Stove, Hexa Fire Starter, Stanley Camp 24oz Cook Set and a pretty awesome enameled mug by my friends over at Wise Men Company.
The Stoker Stove is a Stainless Steel stove that packs flat and stores inside a canvas bag. It allows you to use small sticks in order to cook, and in my case, melt snow for drinking water as well.
Overall, I'm really pleased with how everything preformed. I'll be following up with more videos as I put in more time with this gear.

There are a lot of watch caps out there, and they are not all created equal. Today I take a look at the Prometheus Design Werx A.G. Watch Cap. I've been running it quite a bit over the past fall and winter.
While a lot of beanies are made out of "wool" this one is next level. Made out of an amazing Merino Wool and actually knitted into the shape of the hat, rather than a tube that is simply cut and re-sewn.

1st Look PDW SHADO Pack and Coros Vertix
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/1st-look-pdw-s-h-a-d-o-24l-pack-coros-vertix-gps-watch/
Here is my 1st look at the Prometheus Design Werx S.H.A.D.O. 24l Pack and the Coros Vertix GPS Watch. While I don't have tons of time with either of them, I have had the opportunity to take them out on a pretty cool adventure. While on vacation in Maui, my boys and I, ages 7 & 9, went for about a 12 mile hike down through the Haleakala Crater. It was amazing. During that time the backpack did great and the watch gathered some pretty cool data points.
I'm looking forward to taking them both on more adventures into the back country on hikes and backpacking trips.

Kalashnikov USA KR-9 / Liberty Mystic X / A-DAP Target: 1st Look
You can find links here: https://kitbadger.com/kalashnikov-usa-kr-9-liberty-mystic-x-a-dap-target-1st-look/
Time for a 1st Look at the Kalashnikov USA KR-9, Liberty Mystic X Suppressor and the A-DAP Target System by Tactical AR500 Targets Inc. All these together combine to make for a pretty awesome trip to the range…
If you are unfamiliar with Kalashnikov USA's KR-9, it is basically a 9mm version of the AK-47. Or more correctly, the Russian Vityaz. Fortunately it is threaded 1/2x28, so I can use my 3 Lug Adapter on the Mystic X by Liberty Suppressors.
After assembling my A-DAP Target, I jam some mags with 147gr 9mm from Minuteman Munitions and go to town. Good times…
I'll be revisiting all of these as I get more trips to the range with them.

Strawberry Mountain Adventure: 3.0 Part - 1
Another adventure to Strawberry Mountain! In this small Adventure Log series, I once again attempt to reach the top of Strawberry Mountain for a short solo backpacking trip. There have been a series of setbacks and misadventures on previous attempts, but I'm keeping after it.
In Part 1 I have a near miss with a Moose, negotiate a raging stream and come across some large tracks, Wolf I believe…

Strawberry Mountain Adventure: 3.0 Part - 2
In Part 2 of the Strawberry Mountain 3.0 Adventure Log, I make it! All the way up Strawberry Mountain after a number of setbacks on other attempts. Sometimes backpacking trips don't go as planned, but perseverance took me to the top, finally.
Once at the top, I go through a number of regular camp chores, setting up my tent and camp site, "making" water, eating etc. On this trip I brought a brand new stove I had never tried before by Uberleben. It is a wood stove. Fortunately I was able to scrounge enough dry wood to feed the stove and melt snow for drinking and cooking.
I also gathered enough wood for a pretty awesome fire. Fires out in the mountains are amazing and such a morale booster when it is cold out. There is something hypnotizing about them. Overall it was a great day in the backcountry…

How to Climb a Rope: The Tactical Games
I've been asked a number of times about creating a "how to climb a rope video", with respect to the Tactical Games. So to that end I teamed up with my buddy Matt from Crossfit Coeur D'Alene. As a competitive athlete and coach, he walks us through the progression to enable someone to climb ropes.
After the pro approach, I chime in with my bastardized version of how to climb a rope. Largely the mechanics are all the same, just a little less technique involved in the footwork. In the Tactical Games, I find this way to be somewhat easier if your technique isn't totally on point. It also saves your shins…

New Guns: For the June 2019 Tactical Games
New Games - New Gun: Coming into the June 2019 Tactical Games at Atlanta, Georgia, I have some new hardware I'll be running. After running the prototype Sugar Weasel Q built for me, I have a legit one. A true to life Q Sugar Weasel built off of their new upper and lower receiver sets and all of the other goodies. Still topping it with the Scalarworks PEAK Fixed Iron Sights and a Primary Arms Cyclops 1x Prism Scope in a Scalarworks LEAP Mount.
Since the Tactical Games has a no muzzle brake or compensator rule (lame), I opted to run the Trash Panda silencer on it. The one I built as part of my Factory to Table Series, as well as the suppressor cover I made with Cole-Tac.
Pistol-wise, I'll be rolling with a Heckler & Koch P30. I borrowed it the other day from a buddy. I'll order a Safariland ALS holster and I should be good to go.
We'll see how this combo and I do down at the Tactical Games in June 2019…

Security Contracting: What it is and How to get Started
A lot of people are asking "How do I get into Security Contracting?" And with that, I think there is a misunderstanding or lack of information on what Security Contracting is and how the contracts come about.
First and foremost, even though a bunch of people will want to argue on the internet (the best place to try and change someones mind), Security Contractors are not Mercenaries. The roles are polar opposite. Put that to bed.
If upon watching this, you still want to contract and think you can meet the statement of work, start applying. Reach out to as many companies as you can and submit your resume. Good luck and stay safe.

Life doesn’t always go to plan. Here in Part - 8 of my Factory to Table series, I take my MiniFix out into the field in search of game. While it isn’t the most uplifting story of my hunt, it is what happened and probably a story that a number of people can relate to. Some times you just have bad luck…

The Contour Sling by Lunar Concepts
You can find the sling here: https://wisemencompany.com/contour-padded-sling/
When it comes to slings, the Contour Sling by Lunar Concepts has some pretty awesome stuff going on. From the way the padded contour section is shaped, to the slings adjustment method, the extra long tails it comes with… …I think this sling provides a lot of value.
After running it in the Reveille Ranch 2019 Tactical Games and the 2019 Shooter Symposium, as well as training on the range, here are my thoughts…
You can find the Contour Sling through Wise Men Company.
