The Tactical Games: Meridian, MS 2019 - Part 2
If you are unfamiliar with the Tactical Games, think Crossfit meets 2 Gun Competition. The Games were started by Tim Burke, comprised of highly physical events, coupled with rifle and pistol shooting while wearing kit (body armor, holster, etc.)
My first introduction to the games was in 2018 Fayetteville NC. I went to compete as a sponsored athlete for RECOIL Magazine. I ended up coming in 2nd place in the Elite Division and overall had a great time. RECOIL put out a great video on that event which you can see here.
Because I placed, I was invited back to the next games which was late February in Meridian, MS. While there I had an amazing time. This video documents my 2nd day of the 2019 Meridian Tactical Games.

Radical Firearms 7.62x39 AR - Review
You can find their rifles here: https://www.radicalfirearms.com/default.asp
Here is a look at the Radical Firearms 10.5" RF-15, chambered in 7.62x39. A handy little pistol that brings the AK round to the AR-15 ergonomics.
After a rough start with the RF-15, having to send it back twice for light primer strikes, it eventually got ironed out. I believe they initially replaced the firing pin and then replaced the hammer spring with something stronger. At any rate, it eventually came back and works great now.
I shot the little pistol at a Runenation Level 1 Carbine course as well as other range outings. For the course I topped the gun with PEAK Iron Sights by Scalarworks, Slate Black Industries Slate Grips and swapped the SBA3 Brace for a SBA4 Brace by SB Tactical. Because I like shooting suppressed, I cut part of the rail off to make room for the numerous cans I eventually tried on it, to include the Liberty Infinity X and the Q Full Nelson. I will say it is a fun gun to shoot.

Radical Firearms 7.62x39 AR - 1st Look
You can find their rifles here: https://www.radicalfirearms.com/default.asp
I recently received a 7.62x39 AR Pistol from Radical Firearms. I'll be honest, I was really looking forward to this little blaster. I like that the round is as cheap as it is and readily available, but the AK platform is admittedly not my favorite. So this has the potential to bridge that gap.
Having said that, things did not go as I would have liked. I'll be following up with a full review later when I get time behind the gun after getting it back from Radical Firearms. And to their credit, when I reached out and said, hey these are the issues I'm having, they said go ahead and publish the video. Good on them!

Strawberry Mountain Adventure 2.0 Part - 3
You can find links to the gear here: https://kitbadger.com/strawberry-mountain-2-0-part-3/
After a rough start to my Strawberry Mountain 2.0 Adventure, I wake up and meet the day. Probably not my best nights sleep, and a cold start, but I get some coffee going and make the most of this backpacking trip. Eventually cutting some wood, doing some filming, packing up camp and making it back down to my vehicle…

Radical Firearms 7.62x39 AR - Part 2
You can find their rifles here: https://www.radicalfirearms.com/default.asp
After a rough first outing with the Radical Firearms 7.62x39 AR Pistol, they said they'd make it right, which I appreciate. I sent it back to them and had it returned a few weeks later. Apparently a standard firing pin made it into the gun, rather than the enhanced firing pin. This in turn led to light strikes with the surplus ammo.
This was my first time shooting the pistol after receiving it from them. I'll be honest, it was somewhat disappointing. I have since sent it back to them a second time and have once again received it back. I have yet to take it out a 3rd time…

Henry .45-70 Lever Gun: 1st Look
You can find the Rifle here: https://tinyurl.com/2ker9dew
I finally got a chance to head out to the range with this new Henry All-Weather Lever Action chambered in .45-70. First off, I will say it is a beautiful gun, really nice aesthetically. I will also say, coming from shooting AR platforms, the .45-70 lets you know when you crack one off. :)
I'm looking forward to putting in some more time with this rifle. Getting it dialed in, seeing what kind of groups I can get and overall just putting more rounds through it. I'll follow up with a Part 2 taking a more in depth look later on.

Strawberry Mountain Adventure 2.0 Part - 2
At this point, I feel like there is a curse surrounding Strawberry Mountain. Every time I try to get up there, something comes in the way of it. To be honest though, it just makes me want to conquer it even more.
There were some lessons learned and some silver linings, even though things did not go to plan. I will say, hands down, that was the most amazing fire I've ever got going out backpacking, especially in the snow.
Join me for part 3 when I round out this adventure. And as to Strawberry Mountain, I'm coming for you, sooner or later…

Strawberry Mountain Adventure 2.0 Part - 1
My last Strawberry Mountain Misadventure did not go as I had wanted… While technically I made it up, I didn't bring the right gear, forgot my gaiters, and big picture had to turn around to come back down due to wet feet. Of course after that, things went sideways as well. But I'm not to be deterred.
Wanting to make it back up, even though it is further into winter at this point, I set my sights on Strawberry Mountain once again. In this video I go over packing up my gear for the adventure. What I choose to bring backpacking with me, why and how I end up packing it up.
Getting ready to set off on an adventure…

The Pros and Cons of Security Contracting
So you want to be a contractor…? I'll say this, it is a mixed bag. Security Contracting overseas, for me anyway, had some positives as well as some pretty heavy negatives.
If you have spent some time in the Military, or even Law Enforcement, in order to have a resume to be considered for Security Contracting, I'd recommend taking a good look at this video.
As an aside, one thing I forgot to mention was camaraderie as a Pro.
While some of the people you end up working with aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, there is a underlying sense of camaraderie that a lot of people miss upon leaving the service. But frankly, it can be found other places…

How to make Pine Needle Tea
If you spend enough time out in the backcountry, hiking or backpacking, eventually you get tired of drinking water. Some variety is nice. Enter Pine Needle Tea. In this video, my buddy Matt, from Jerking The Trigger, and I go over how to make some pine needle tea. It is honestly pretty tasty, especially as a welcome treat compared to cold water on a cold day out in the mountains.
If you are unfamiliar and not able to properly identify the trees in your area, don’t try this.

Minuteman Munitions in the Badger Den
After much searching, I'm really excited to bring a great Ammunition Company into the Badger Den!
If you are unfamiliar with the Badger Den, it is a way I've come up with where everyone wins. If you appreciate my content and want to support it, it is a method that allows you to do so, but in a unique way. I've found good companies willing to work with me in order to bring you exclusive valuable discounts. So by supporting my content through the Badger Den you not only help me, as well as some other great companies, but if you use those discounts, you can more than pay for your access to the Badger Den over the course of the year.
Minuteman Munitions is an incredible addition which I'm excited to bring aboard. They make a number of different training loads for pistol as well as .223/5.56, not to mention their Subsonic 300 Blackout, or my favorite, their incredibly accurate 68 grain BTHP .223 rounds.

Uncanna Full Spectrum CBD Oil: Part - 1
When it comes to Cannabidiol (CBD) it seems there is a lot of misinformation or just lack of information. I didn't understand it myself for quite some time. But I have slowly learned about it through some good friends. I'll be honest through, with it in its infancy, it almost seems like snake oil.
Well, I'm going to embark on a journey of my own and see how and what it does for me. While the list of uses for CBD is long, I feel I could benefit from some of its effects. Namely the potential effect it has to reduce stress and regulate healthy sleep.
To that end I am going to be documenting my journey taking Uncanna Full Spectrum CBD Oil for about two months. Over that time I will revisit the subject and let you know how it does for me.
The company Uncanna is unique unto itself in that it is veteran owned. The owner found himself on a slew of prescription drugs the the military had prescribed him. That in turn led him down the path to Uncanna, a way for him to move past the pharmaceuticals to a natural and healthy life.

How to Field Strip the Q Honey Badger
If you are fortunate enough to have a Honey Badger by Q (probably the best hiking companion out there) and aren't sure how to field strip it, let me show you.
While the Honey Badger shares a lot with your standard AR-15 / M4 pattern rifle, there are some nuanced differences. For example, to have a package that small and compact, it uses a proprietary recoil system. Due to this the take down is a little bit different.
Big takeaways is keep the upper and lower receiver parallel and close together when taking it apart or putting it together. And guide the spring when re-assembling.

Henry AR-7 Rifle: 1st Look
You can find the AR-7 here: https://tinyurl.com/4h42yvdy
If you have ever read the story Hatchet, you're probably familiar with the AR-7 Survival Rifle. It is a pretty cool self nesting rifle, all of the components break down and fit inside the butt stock.
The AR-7 and Survival Pack are offered by Henry Rifles. Today I take a first look at the kit as a whole. How long do you think I can survive in the woods with it? It has provisions for shelter, fire, water, taking game and the catch all 550 cord. We'll see…

The Cost of Free Stuff
Who doesn't love free stuff? I'll admit I love getting packages in the mail. Whether it is warming layers, knives, pack-able solar panels or how about free firearms? Awesome right?!
Well, none of it is really free. Yes, there isn't a exchange of "money", but there is an exchange of value. The reason I bring this up is because some people get wrapped up on, if people have stated how they came about a product that they are reviewing.
I rarely mention if I paid for something, have it on loan, or was given something. Reason being, it doesn't matter. Kit Badger is predicated on trust and honesty. Regardless of how I get something, you will have my honest take on it. How I've used something, how it has preformed for me in those circumstances, what I liked and dislike about it and why. So if I don't mention how I came about something, don't worry. You're still getting a honest take.

Down Range Hooded Jacket by Tactical Distributors
All down jackets are not made equal. And like most pieces of gear, it comes down to intended use. The Down Range Hooded Jacket 2.1, by Tactical Distributors, is on the lighter side of down jackets.
This jacket isn't very high loft, which plays out in a couple ways. While not being as warm as a larger and thicker jacket, it does offer the ability to layer. You can fairly easily pull a hard shell over this jacket should you need increased warmth or just to keep the elements off of you.
For the Down Range Hooded Jacket to work as an outer layer, you either need to have the temperature not drop too low or keep your activity level higher. Overall, depending on your needs, it is a pretty good offering from Tactical Distributors. It is right at home hiking, doing some training on the range or hanging out in a coffee shop.

A Winter Hot Dog Hike
There is nothing like a Hot Dog Hike in the winter time. And if you are unfamiliar with a Hot Dog Hike, it is hike that culminates in roasting hot dogs over a fire. What is the significance you might ask? It is a platform for skill building.
Whether it is with adults or kids, it is a matter of hiking out into the woods, gathering fire making materials, processing wood, and not only getting a fire started, but keeping it lit. Long enough to get some coals going to roast a hot dog.
While this is fairly easy in the summer time, stepping off in a few feet of snow changes the game. My buddy Matt from Jerking The Trigger and his daughters, along with myself and my boys, headed out to try our skills this North Idaho Winter on a little adventure.

SHOT Show 2019 Rundown
SHOT Show (sometimes referred to as SHIT Show) is a mixed bag. Tons and tons of stuff to see, most of it not worth a passing glance. Sifting through the heap I did find a few gems. Such as the new SBA4 Arm Brace from SB Tactical, Surefire XVL2 weapon light and laser, Genesis Arms Gen-12 Shotgun, the new Aimpoint Magnifier flip to the side mount by Scalarworks, Aimpoints ACRO P-1 pistol optic, not to mention a really amazing rifle package from Accuracy International.
The best part though? Catching up with old friends and making new ones. Overall it was a good time at SHOT Show 2019.

Sig Sauer SHOT Show Range Day - 2019
While SHOT Show 2019 officially starts on Monday, Sig kicked it off a day early with the Official Sig Sauer 2019 Range Day. It was a incredible day. It started with a live fire demonstration after a number of guys parachuted in from a helo… …pretty good start.
I got to shoot a number of pretty cool little weapon systems, meet some cool people and catch up with some friends. Good times.

Strap Management: Bike Tube Hack
Webbing on backpacks and tactical gear can get out of hand fast. Pretty soon it just looks like a yard sale with webbing hanging off all over. While you can approach it different ways such as taping down or cutting off excess webbing, how about something that stacks functions?
By using a old bike tire, from a road bike, about 1 1/8" wide, we can created basically rubber bands. These work perfectly to get loose 1" webbing out of the way and at the same time still give us easy access to adjust and a added benefit.
If you ever saw my video on the Bike Tube Hack, you'll know that inner tubes burn really well. They are great emergency fire starters. If you get in a bind out in the mountains or woods, you can pull a few off of the webbing and light them on fire to buy you time to get other tinder burning. Pretty handy if you're in a tight spot.
Check your local bike shop for all the old tires you could ever use.

11 Years with my Arcteryx Fugitive Hoody
After about 11 years of use my Fugitive Hoody by Arcteryx is about to give up the ghost. I first bought this fleece back in early 2008 and wore it throughout the years till the beginning of 2019. Having worn it that long, there are a few things I like and a few things I dislike.
I will say this for Arcteryx, their gear does last. This hoodie has been through about 6 years worth of deployments to the Middle East while I was working as a security contractor. Not to mention numerous adventures out into the mountains backpacking.

The Grey Man, Velcro and Morale Patches
While I can appreciate the "Grey Man" concept, I think the practical application of it is incredibly narrow in scope. Largely I see it pertaining to people in under cover roles, possibly in foreign countries, where the stakes are high. This is not the case when you sit down for a meal at Waffle House. Sorry bro.
More to the point though, people hassle people about standing out with their velcro fields, morale patches or PALS webbing on their backpack. Don't worry about anyone talking down to you based on you wearing this, because they will do it anyway, regardless of how much you conform. Those people are insecure.
Guys, there is no gate keeper. You do you.

Kenyon Repair Tape: Part - 1
You can find the tape here: https://amzn.to/41PDSwo
Sometimes things break while you are out on adventures. Or more to the point, get cut or ripped. That is where the K Tape Repair Tape by Kenyon comes in.
K Tape is a adhesive backed repair tape that is made of a ripstop nylon. The tape comes in a 3" x 18" roll. It can be used to repair most anything. From rainwear, duffel bags, tents, backpacks, parkas or most anything else. I even used it to repair a fishing pole. Kind of outside its intended use, but it worked.
This being a 2 part series, I will revisit these items in a matter of months after I put in some more time with them and see how these patches wear.
