Game Panic II: Parcel Success from John Hancock for Atari 2600
One of the really fun things that I've been able to be a part of over the years has been to be a part of the launch of different video games and accessories. From partnering with companies like Retro-bit and Retro Fighters, I have had my name in different manuals along with the YouTube channel name as well. Well, I now have accomplished a first for me and that is to have something I have created included with the launch of a physical game. Our friend, the Immortal John Hancock, just recently launched his latest Homebrew, Game Panic III: Parcel Success. He sent me one of these as a thank you for what I created for him as We Made Something That Is Going IN a Video Game Box for Game Panic III: Parcel Success!
Designed for the Atari 2600 and compatible systems, in Game Panic III: Parcel Success a new batch of games has arrived at Retro Tower only to be incorrectly delivered to random floors! Coral the carts whilst avoiding Invaders and dodging death. Grab guess boxes to meet your quota too. Guess box effects include a bonus score, warping to the elevator, and more time. Elevators open and close intermittently. Any surface that makes contact above your feet can be climbed. Once enough cartridges and guest boxes are collected the players are placed far left or right on the elevator and moved to a new set of five floors. When enemies warp and they pause and can be safely avoided. Crouch devoid flying phones. Contact with enemies or running out of time loses life. Run out of lives and it's game over.
I was honored to be able to work with John to create something special for his latest game. These were some of the first prints I did on my new Bambu Labs P1P and P1S Printers! I also set aside the very first one of these to come off the printer, along with printing a separate larger version, for him to keep. Let me know what you think of something like this, and would it encourage you to purchase a homebrew game!

Arcade Games From the 1980s I Like vs Don't Like
During the 1980s, the arcades were amazing. The sights, the sounds, the overall experience was so much fun. I spent so much money playing games at Butler Skateland and Sammy's Burger Place in the '80s, I definitely had my favorite games. Let's take a look at some of the 1980s arcade games that I like versus don't like.
Afterburner:
Afterburner was an amazing arcade title, with amazing sound, tight controls, and voice sound effects, this was such an amazing game to play. This is one I played on the regular at Sammy's Burger place in my hometown of Menomonee falls, Wisconsin. I loved slamming the stick from the top left to the bottom right to do barrel rolls. Easily one of my favorites.
Joust
Even on the Atari 2600, I was never a big fan of Joust. The controls were always very floaty, I didn't care for the gameplay style, and overall this was a game that I just did not enjoy. I know others did, it was just never my taste.
Pole Position
Oh yeah, my love for racing games started early on and Pole Position was one of the first games I fell in love with. I loved the high and low-speed gear shift, the gas pedal and steering wheel, and just the overall sense of speed. A 6-year-old me could often be found playing this.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
So unlike some of the other games on here, I don't dislike Indy because it's a bad game. It's a difficult game. It was also a game that always had tremendously long lines at Sammy's Burger Place. I rarely if ever got to play this, and when I did I typically died very quickly.
Dragon's Lair
This is another one that I did not like more so due to the difficulty level versus anything else. I love Don Bluth's animation, and being able to play a cartoon in the arcade was phenomenal. This was something that I could not figure out the patterns at a young age and always felt like I was spending a lot of money and not getting very far.
Donkey Kong
I'm no Steve Weibe but I can't help but play Donkey Kong almost any time that I see it in the arcade. This is one of the first arcade experiences I ever had and it still holds up. It's challenging, it's fun, and who doesn't love the intro music to this game? It's a classic!
Centipede
I don't know if playing it on the Atari 2600 first is what tainted my view of this game but I've just never been a fan of any version of Centipede. The trackball is neat, but the game overall just never seemed fun to me. I think this is another one of them where I just died way too easily when I was a kid therefore it was something I could never get into.
PlayChoice 10
I am totally cheating here because the PlayChoice10 could have up to 10 games in it, but I loved the overall idea and philosophy behind this. These are just NES games, make no mistake, but they were some of the best games out there. I loved playing this at Trackside Hobbies while I was waiting for batteries to charge when I was RC racing as a teenager, and I still absolutely love this cabinet now. Next to the Star Wars arcade cabinet, the PlayChoice 10 is the arcade cabinet I most want in my collection.

The Coolest RC Vehicle Ever? Losi ProMoto MX Offoroad Motorcycle
The Losi Promoto-MX isn't the first scale RC motorcycle that's ever been sold. But it is the very first one that accurately reproduces the full experience — and pure fun — of riding a real motorcycle. It's the long-awaited dream of RC hobbyists and dirt bike fans alike.
The unprecedented realism of the Promoto-MX goes much deeper than its faithfully detailed looks — the narrow frame, rider gear, and officially licensed graphics. Even more impressive is how successfully it captures true dirt bike performance, a breakthrough accomplished through a unique hybrid of mechanical and electronic technology developed specifically for the Promoto-MX. It's how these technologies work together that makes all the difference.
Promoto-MX electronics include a 2700Kv motor and steel flywheel that are both mounted in the center of the frame. The motor spins the flywheel at over 22,000 rpm to create a gyroscopic force for unparalleled stability. Meanwhile, patent-pending Spektrum MS6X technology takes your input from the DX3PM transmitter and commands the Promoto-MX to lean, turn, and control wheelies with unprecedented balance and finesse.
The mechanical technology is equally impressive. Losi's product development team studied full-size motorcycle suspension geometry to give the Promoto-MX the same terrain handling characteristics. A rising rate rear suspension provides superior grip and prevents bottoming out in landings. The completely innovative front fork design, with an internal spring and dampener, can be tuned by changing the silicone dampening fluid and also allows ride height adjustments. An innovative front and rear wheel braking system gives the bike impressive stopping power, cutting the stopping distance in half compared to rear brake only.
Both technologies, electronic and mechanical, are why the Promoto-MX performs better at high and low speeds than any previous RC motorcycle. For dirt bike fans, the "feel" of the Promoto-MX will be instantly familiar. RC car enthusiasts will discover a new way to drive that pulls you deep into the heart of the action — carving berms, skimming whoops, holding wheelies, and throwing roost.
Finally. An RC dirt bike that really works! Anytime and anywhere, just grab your Losi Promoto-MX, get in the zone, commit to your line, and begin to be the bike.

I Just Got Custom Baseball Jerseys for My YouTube Channel
I love Major League Baseball, specifically, I love my Milwaukee Brewers. I have owned a few custom personalized jerseys over the years, and I've kinda done baseball or softball-inspired shirts in the past with the Ragland sort of tees. But FanCustom.com just sent us 2 of my new favorite shirts as I Just Got Custom Baseball Jerseys for My YouTube Channel!
I learned about FanCustom from our good friend John Riggs, as they had made a jersey for him. Looking at their site I knew I had to have them make me at least one, if not multiple shirts. They can do jerseys based on baseball, like what I went with, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, and softball, along with hoodies, and jackets (I WILL be ordering a jacket in the future!), T-shirts, shorts, golf shirts, hats, and pants. I dove in and started looking and designing what I wanted!
I searched for "Milwaukee" on their site and found a number of baseball options. I went with the Custom White Royal Pinstripe Navy-Gold Baseball Jersey as I felt that closely matched the Brewer's home jersey. From here I got to customizing. The jersey itself is only $24.99, and for only $4.99 I was able to add the channel name to the front as well. You can also add a number to the front and back, along with a name.
Once I had this designed, I was off to look for a second option. I typed "Ragland" in the search bar, and then I found it. The Custom Cream Navy-Gold Authentic Raglan Sleeves Baseball Jersey! Man, I love the way this looks! The front logo has a very old-school look and feel to it. Much like the pinstripes I could have added a front number but decided against it. I did, however, add my number to the back, along with my last name.
It took a few weeks to get the jerseys and I have to say they are super soft and very nice. I got both in 2XL, but I feel like they are a bit on the small size and when I order more I'll go the 3XL route.
Thanks to Fancustom for sending us the pinstriped jersey, as they provided that one for no charge, while I did purchase the Ragland style one. If you want to get your own Fancustom Customized Jersey visit the link here:

Do You Collect Inferior Version of Your Favorite Sega Games?
I love collecting weird versions of games I enjoy. The Game Boy Advance versions of Super Mario Bros 1-3, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island come to mind. The Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 (the same game but minus the DLC). What about franchises that were on the Sega Genesis but got ported to the Master System? One of my favorites from Sega is clearly Sonic, so why would I claim it had an inferior version of one of my favorite games? Well, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 2 on Master System are why.
Released in 1992, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had little, if anything, to do with the original 16-bit Genesis or Mega Drive Version. Instead, Sonic 2 was developed for the Game Gear and the Master System at the same time. As such the gameplay and story share nothing with its graphically enhanced brothers.
From Wikipedia:
The game is split into seven levels called zones, each comprising two main acts and a boss fight with one of Doctor Robotnik's robots. While the 8-bit Sonic the Hedgehog stages borrowed thematically from those in the original 16-bit Sonic game, Sonic 2 features original levels to differentiate itself from its 16-bit counterpart. At the end of each main act, the player hits a signpost, which will spin and land on an image; it can award bonuses depending on the image it settles on. There are six Chaos Emeralds to collect throughout the stages. If the player collects them all, they will be able to find Tails at the end of the game.
I've been looking for Sonic 2 for the Master System for some time, and found it on eBay for an amazing prize. Now it is missing the manual, but the case and the game itself look great!
Have you ever sought out the inferior version of a game you love? If so let me know which ones in the comments!

Bring The Arcade Home! New Wave Toys Announce Frenzy & Berzerk!
New Wave Toys make some of the finest licensed replica arcade cabinets I have ever seen, and in August 2023 they announced 2 more. Coming from Atari and New Wave Toys, you'll once again be able to bring the arcade home with Frenzy and Berzerk.
From New Wave Toys:
Stern Electronics manufactured approximately 39,000 Berzerk upright cabs plus an estimated 1,000 cocktail tables making Berzerk one of the most successful arcade games of all time! Check out all the classic Stern upright cabinet details including the iconic Metal Control Panel and “Board Drawer” front of cab access door that opens to reveal a replica faux PCB prop inside an illuminated compartment! A fully loaded accessory pack includes a replica of the Oversized Joystick Top from early production runs, plus NEW! Customizable options like Detachable Metal Security Bar with Mini Lock & Metal Kick Plate!
Frenzy x RepliCade Overhaul Survivor Series cab features our next level of Arcade Destruction that ranges from distressed, faded & battle worn cabinet detailing to our NEW! Marquee Flicker Mode, but Overhauled to be in certified top working condition. Frenzy also includes customizable accessory options like our NEW! Detachable Metal Security Bar with Mini Lock & Metal Kick Plate!
NEW! COIN OPERATED FEATURE
We consider inserting a coin to register a credit as a big step towards achieving our goal of recreating the most authentic arcade accurate experience possible in RepliCade Amusements. The replica Stern metal coin door’s left Quarter slot accepts our mini coins for credits, plus we converted the coin return button to a press to add credits button. We’re even including a Bonus coin collection Cash Box!
Both cabs play the original 1980 Berzerk arcade game plus the 1982 sequel Frenzy.
Berzerk was one of the first arcade games featuring speech synthesis of talking robots and the unforgettable “COIN DETECTED IN POCKET” that plays in attract mode. Berzerk is widely considered one of the greatest arcade video games of all time. Eugene Jarvis cited Berzerk as an influence for Robotron: 2084 & the PC game Castle Wolfenstein was also influenced by Berzerk.
Berzerk & Frenzy are similar shooter style games with the primary objective to shoot as many robots as possible without being killed. Frenzy’s play mechanics are more sophisticated than Berzerk’s introducing different rooms, smarter robots, destructible walls for creating exits, and the ability to bounce shots off of solid walls. You can even shoot Evil Otto to make him disappear, but beware because he moves faster and faster every time he returns. The key thing to remember is never to stay in one room for too long. Doing so causes an additional Evil Otto to be released from a different direction.
This project is dedicated to Alan McNeil RIP (1951 – 2017) designer and programmer of Berzerk & Frenzy.
CRT-FX 2.0
We refined our original CRT-FX lens with a reduced curvature plus added an anti-reflection surface coating to reduce distortion, glare & ambient light reflections.
OFFICIALLY LICENSED BY ATARI
What do you think? Will you be adding these to your collection? Let me know in the comments!

Start A Japanese Famicom Collection With These 3 Great Games!
I love collecting Japanese import games! Part of it comes from the fact that it feels like I'm doing something I'm not supposed to be doing. Part comes from how amazing the Japanese artwork looks. A big part is that the games tend to be much less expensive for the Famicom than the NES. Let's show you how you can Start A Japanese Famicom Cartridge Collection With These 3 Great Games!
Paraodius Da
Loose Price: $25
If you love Gradius, Twin Bee, Salamander or Lifeforce, you'll love Parodius Da! This game combines elements of all those classic Konami shooters into one mixed-up mash-up of a shooter, and it works so well! It has great music, amazing controls, and it's just fun. Thanks to our buddy Trip for helping us find our copy at the 2018 Portland Retro Gaming Expo!
Wai Wai World 2
Loose Price:
$30
I remember watching John Riggs talking about this game so lovingly in a Metal Jesus Rocks video that I had to get to know the man and get to play the game. I now have done both, and I dare say my friendship with John is better than the game, and I love Wai Wai World 2! You get to play as Upa, Simon Belmont II, Goemon, and other amazing Konami Characters. This was never released outside of Japan, and neither was Parodius Da! on the NES. But our last game WAS released on the NES, and that is very expensive.
Bonk's Adventure (FC Genjin)
Loose Price:
$35
Compared to almost $1000 for the NES Version, I'll happily pay $35 for the Japanese Famicom version of Bonk's Adventure, or FC Genjin. Almost identical to the TurboGrafx 16 version gameplay-wise, this late entry into the library sounds, looks, and plays so well. Combining that with the inexpensive price makes this a no-brainer!
Have you ever imported any Japanese games? What games have you imported? Let us know in the comments!

Has the PlayStation 5 Slim Design Finally Been Revealed?!?
One of the most popular subjects for people to speculate about in the world of Video Games surrounds new hardware. How many times have we heard there was a Switch Pro or a Switch 2 coming from Nintendo, yet nothing has shown up. We've also had speculations when it comes to new hardware from Microsoft and Sony regarding mid-cycle updates. Microsoft has indicated the Series S and Series X ARE their mid-cycle updates, Sony has been more coy. Earlier, Twitter (or X) user @BwE_Dev posted a video to the platform that is getting a lot of attention. Is it legit? Hard to say, but there are a few things we did notice.
Model Number:
Supposedly this has a model number of CFI-2016
Features:
This maintains the overall look and feel of the original PS5 Fat, down to the front USB Ports, stand mount location, and disk drive location. The latter, the disk drive location, is what makes me think this is a hoax, as there are multiple reports that the mid-cycle revision will be digital-only, with an optional external optical drive rumored to be an optional accessory.
2 Front Facing USB-A or USB-C ports
Bottom Mounted Vertical Pedestal Mount
What appears to be an LED Light Strip towards the top 1/3 of the case, similar to the original Playstation 4 design
Forbes has come out and claimed this is simply a 3D-printed case. Having 3D printed items for some time, this doesn't look 3D printed to me. If it is, then it is set to an amazingly high resolution and would have taken a lot of time to design, mock-up, and print.
What do you think? Has the PlayStation 5 Slim Design Finally Been Revealed? Do you think this IS the PS5 Slim? I'm not sure, I don't think so, but there's a chance. Either way if this IS true we won't have long to wait as this has a rumored September announcement date! Share your opinion in the comments!

What Do You Redeem My Nintendo Rewards Points On?
Anytime you buy Nintendo hardware or software, you can accrue My Nintendo coins, either platinum or gold. The former Club Nintendo, MyNintendo offers some cool digital and physical items you can redeem your points towards. I had 800 points about ready to expire, so I needed to pick something up.
I ended up spending 500 points on Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe Kirby & Magolor Canvas Pouch. This sturdy canvas pouch has a zipper closure, so it’s the perfect place to store treasured items. Featuring the powerful pink puff Kirby and the mysterious cosmic traveler Magolor.
While I was at it, I also decided to grab one of the SNES Nintendo Switch Online controllers. Enjoy enhanced Super NES games the way they're meant to be played—using a full-size Super Nintendo Entertainment System style controller! Available for purchase only by Nintendo Switch Online members, this wireless controller offers the perfect way to play these classic Super NES games.
Features:
What’s in the box — One Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller and one USB cable.
Recharging options — Use the included USB cable or a Nintendo Switch AC adapter.

We Just Scored the Most Unique Pickups Ever! Gus and Remmi!
I've had dogs my entire life, dating back to when I was in kindergarten. Over that time we've had black labs, yellow labs, border collie/lab mixes, a beabull, a straight up mutt, but since losing our Pinetop and Murphey over the last few years we felt like something was missing. We'd talked about adopting another dog at some point, and we did just that.

3D Printed Controller Stand Design for Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird
One of the things I love about 3D printing is the ability to solve storage solutions with my ingenuity. Sometimes, however, I am thankful that the community is as fantastic as it is. I recently discovered a file for a display stand for the Nintendo Gamecube's Wavebird controller I knew I needed to mess with. That's right, it was time for me to 3D print a new controller stand design for the Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird controller.
I found the creator, ZDeanzo, through Patreon and immediately supported his work. Doing so gave me permission to remix and sell the design if I wanted to. See, I am sure I could have done that on the sly without supporting the creator, but that's just super scuzzy and slimy to me. I know how I would feel if someone did that with one of my designs, which is why I avoid it.
Looking at the files, one of the things I wanted to change from the original design was the logo and text placement. He had them inset in the file, something which makes total sense if you're using a single-color printer. Now that I have my Bambu Labs P1P and P1S, however, multi-color prints are a breeze. I created extruded versions of both the Gamecube name and Logo, imported all the files into Tinkercad, and here you see the results!
For the body, I used Kingroon Purple PLA filament for the body, along with Kingroon Grey and Black for the logo and name. The cool thing is I can print the body in whatever color I want to match the Gamecube color! For silver or grey systems, I'd just change the logo to a different color, and for black systems, I'd change the Gamecube name to white.
What do you think of this design? As a Patreon supporter of XDeanzo I'm allowed to sell these, would you be interested in one? Let me know in the comments as I am considering adding these to our site.

A Good Plug-N-Play HDMI for Original Xbox for only $42??
It seems like getting HDMI outputs from retro consoles is all the rage these days. You have cables, adapters, upscalers, and more all working to get you to that HDMI connection. For the Original Xbox, there are a few very good options out there, but some of the best require mods of the system, they are expensive, or they take forever to get. That's why the Electron Shepherd Xbox2HDMI adapter really piqued my interest. It promises to be A Good Plug-N-Play HDMI solution for Original Xbox, and it only costs $42.
The overall design is pretty simple, and if anything, it reminds me of the Carby or Prism HDMI adapters for the Gamecube. It's a basic dongle which plugs into the back of your system and then gives you a straight HDMI output. Here's more from the Electron Shepherd website:
Size: 58mm x 33mm x 12.6mm
Supply Voltage: 5V
Video Input: Component
Audio Input: Digital Surround Sound
Video Output: HDMI
Latency: LAG FREE!!
With this newest version of this module, V3, the Digital Surround Sound audio input has been fixed to work with every revision of the Xbox. V1 and V2 versions will not be shipped out any longer. All orders will be fulfilled with V3 versions.
After the first release of our Xbox2HDMI modules we received some reports that these modules were not producing sound output when used with Xbox units with Revision 1.0 hardware while connected to some specific TVs and sound bars. We released a V2 version of the Xbox2HDMI that looked to solve this issue with the addition of a small switch that allows the user to swap between analog and digital surround sound. The new V3 unit completely solves the audio issue and allows for digital surround sound on all Xbox units.
This tiny, power-packed module takes in the Component video and audio output from the Original Xbox and outputs an HDMI signal with embedded Dolby Digital Surround Sound (if that audio setting is enabled in your Xbox’s settings). This module utilizes a fully custom PCB with a higher quality, next-generation IC compared to what is typically used on the widely available Wii2HDMI and VGA2HDMI modules that are readily available online. If you are not happy with those modules, then you will absolutely be happy with them.
This module efficiently supports the 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions that are default to the original Xbox. This module is able to support all of the following resolutions although they are not all achievable outputs from the original Xbox: 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p25/30/50/60, 1080i50/60, 1080p24/25/30/50/60.
We'll be doing a full test on this in the very near future, make sure you are subscribed!!

Was the Wii Virtual Console Really Better than Switch Online?!?
In this episode, we discuss whether or not the lack of a Virtual Console on the Nintendo Switch is as big of a deal now as it used to be. The question is Was the Wii Virtual Console Really Better than Switch Online?
We recently posted a YouTube short discussing two new Pokémon games launching on the Nintendo Switch Online service. You can see that video here:
https://youtube.com/shorts/kSQfQ62ntPQ
One comment that stuck out to me was the following:
Doesn't stop Switch Online from being a trainwreck of a replacement for virtual console. Doesn't help they STILL haven't brought back the option to purchase each game individually (without the shoehorned online multiplayer). Nor do I get a good impression of Nintendo even caring to actually preserve their old games; especially Broadcast Satelleview.
This got me thinking, was the Virtual Console that much better than what the Switch offers with the Switch Online service and the Expansion Pack? I grabbed both my Wii and my Wii U to take a look at the catalogs of content that I had on each. At least in my example, I'm better off now than I was before. Here's why.
The Virtual Console for both the Wii and the Wii U had amazing titles in it, I will never say anything but that. It also had more systems available on it. We still don't have access to games from the Turbografx16 and PC Pngine, or the Nintendo DS either. What we do have is games from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Gameboy Advance, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64. And not only do we have access to all of those games, you have access to them in the home or on the go, and you don't have to buy the games individually.
For the cost of the Nintendo Switch Online service, Family or Individual, monthly, 3 month, or yearly, you have access to some amazing titles. When you look at what I would have paid just for the NES games that I would play through the Switch Online, you equally surpass the total amount spent through the eShop versus what my annual cost is. Then you expand that to add in the games from the other platforms, and the value gets even better, at least for me. One of the points of the comment was that you don't have to worry about being shoehorned in multiplayer. I don't worry about that as it is, and I never, not once, used online multiplayer with any of the Switch online games.
I think it's also easy to state that the quality of the graphics of the Switch is much higher than on the Wii or the Wii U. Since the Wii topped out at 480p resolution and composite video, that's an easy statement to make. It's a little bit closer on the Wii U since it was 1080P HDMI output, but the clarity and the sharpness of the gameplay is definitely better on the Switch.
I myself have indicated that I wish that there would be some sort of Virtual Console return to the Nintendo Switch, I've said that for years and I still believe it to be true. That being said, however, things aren't as bad or as bleak as they used to be. I think the Switch online service is a tremendous value, not as good as it was when it launched but still good, and gives me access to games on their respective platforms that I want to play. And I don't have to buy them individually. The one major downside that I have is if I am ever disconnected from Wi-Fi the service cannot verify that I have paid for access and therefore blocks me from playing them. I can't play the Switch online if I'm flying for example. That needs to be fixed. Above and beyond that, I think it's a very good service and a fairly good replacement for the Virtual Console.

I Need Your Help!! What Parts Does the Game Boy Micro Use?!?
I am never one to shy away from a project, especially if I can get something at a reasonable price. I recently managed to score a pretty nice looking Famicom Edition Game Boy Micro off of eBay, but it needs some love. This is where I am turning to you, the community, as I need YOUR help! What parts does the Game Boy Micro use and what parts do I need to get it back and working.
I've been on the lookout for a Famicom edition Game Boy Micro for some time, and I have an alert setup on eBay to notify me when one pops up under $200 it lets me know. Well, just this week one popped up that caught my eye, but it needed some parts. From the listing:
"Console is tested and works but it does have a couple of issues. There was no sound, so needs a new speaker. The power button is loose so it will shut off randomly. And it is in need of a new battery. Screen is a little faded. Comes with a charging cable. Does play games"
I've fixed or repaired systems like this in the past, but looking at the Game Boy Micro it appears that the speaker is different than other units. Most other Game Boys use a pressure fit between tabs and the back of the speaker which just makes contact on the PCB to work. The only one I've found thus far has a set of pigtail leads, but I don't want to spend almost $20 on a single speaker. What replacement speaker does the Game Boy Micro use?
Next up is the power switch. It kinda, sorta, maybe works, but it quickly turns off. I've sprayed the switch out with electronic contact cleaner, but it's still not working consistently. I've looked on a few different sites and not found a direct replacement. Again, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Finally, the screen is ok, but definitely needs some help. Doing some initial research, I've seen a few IPS Screens for around $15 to $25 dollars. Have you replaced the screen on one of these before? If so what did you use? I can't wait to hear your recommendations!

NES, SNES, Game Boy & MORE Awesome Game Hunting Pickups
We don't get out to game hunt often lately, and our Facebook Marketplace has been a bit dry. This weekend, however, we managed to get a nice score from one of our friends, a good find from Facebook Marketplace, and a new item to take to future conventions! Let's take a look at our NES, SNES, Game Boy & MORE Awesome Game Hunting Pickups.
One of our channel partners, iDPRT, sent us one of their portable 4x6 Photo Printers and several rolls of printer paper. I'm excited for this as it is something that I can not just print photos of my family on, but I can also take to conventions to get photos with people at shows and let them print and take home right on-site!
From our friend Josh, we picked up a few games for the NES, SNES, and Game Boy. For the NES, we bought the Tengen version of Pac-Man, something I've never actually owned before! The cart and label both look to be in excellent shape. For the SNES I bought Bubsy 2 and Spider-Man X-Men Arcade's Revenge. He actually had 2 copies of Spider-Man, and he sent me the version with the better label. For the Nintendo 64, I grabbed a copy of Cruis'n World, something I had back in the day but have never re-collected. Finally, for the Game Boy, I grabbed a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan.
Finally, we actually found a good score on our local Facebook Marketplace. I found an AGS-001 Game Boy Advance SP in Cobalt Blue, a MadCatz Case, and 4 games. It was lacking a power supply, and the old owner said the battery was needing replacement. Looking at the titles, Fairly Odd Parents Volume 1, Puffy Amiyumi, Quad Desert Fury, and Spongebob Squarepants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, he was asking $80. I offered him $50, and he accepted! I fired up the games and system and everything works great! I have some future mod plans in mind with this system, including an IPS Display and USB-C Power Port, so we'll see how this winds up.
What pickups did you get this weekend? Share your finds in the comments below!

Upgrade N64 Controllers with Retro-bit Hall Effect Sensor Joystick
One of the things synonymous with the Nintendo 64 has to be the stock controller. The trident design has been mocked over the years, but it's one of the most versatile ever produced. One of the weak points of the N64 controller, however, is the analog stick. It can frequently develop considerable slop and lose precision. Many manufacturers have released replacement N64 sticks, but Retro-bit is looking to change things up a bit. Instead of just offering a traditional replacement, Retro-bit has developed a replacement stick that features a Hall Effect Sensor! We've had a chance to install one and play it, and man, it's good. Let's take a closer look.
From Retro-bit:
Have years of smash attacks rendered your analog stick loose? Too many party sessions with that player who is a bit too aggressive with 360-spins? Or has the wear-and-tear caused you to stow away your favorite controller? It's time to bring it back to life with our Analog Stick Repair Module for N64® controllers. Inspired by our Tribute64®, we’ve brought an improved analog stick for use on original N64® controllers! Utilize the full range on this Japanese-made stick that features Hall Effect potentiometers that provides long-lasting performance and won’t drift due to wear and tear. The comfortable thumb grip lets you game for hours without worrying about lasting effects. The replacement process is very simple and takes less than 5 minutes!
What is Hall Effect?
In a standard analog stick, the angle, direction, and speed are all measured using potentiometers. These are very small mechanical units with moving parts that can send the data to the controller's circuitry and provide the appropriate inputs in-game. While these are currently the standard for most analog sticks, even outside of gaming, they do suffer from wear and tear as well as drifting. Drifting is when the analog stick output becomes less precise over time causing it to "drift" away from its intended target. The reasons for this could be a faulty potentiometer, a dirty stick, or just natural wear-and-tear.
This analog stick comes equipped with Hall Effect sensors which utilize electromagnetic density to measure the output through the resistance level of the circuit. Basically, this means that rather than using a mechanical potentiometer, it instead uses electromagnetism to produce the same effect without needing small parts to move around. As such, the performance is much more consistent and with good care, can outlast most standard analog sticks. You won't encounter the same issues that can lead to stick drift with Hall Effect sensors.
Let me tell you, these sticks are terrific! I've helped with some of the early testing and feedback and the prototype I've been using has been nothing but terrific. Make sure you hit that subscribe button as we'll be featuring this stick and installation process in the near future.

RetroTink 4K | The Ultimate Retro Upscaler is Coming in Late 2023
We have been huge fans of the RetroTink line of upscalers since the original RetroTink 2X, having owned every single version Mike Chi has ever released. Just a few days ago he put out information regarding one of my most anticipated releases of 2023, that being the RetroTink 4K. That's right, we will be able to upscale our retro consoles all the way up past 1440p to 4K. Let's take a look at the RetroTink 4K which looks to become The Ultimate Retro Upscaler and is Coming in Late 2023
From Mike himself:
Where, When and How Much?
Currently targeting a late-2023 release. The exact price is to be determined since we are still exploring multiple options on how to best source the FPGA. Best guidance is to budget $1,000 and we hope you will be pleasantly surprised when the actual price is determined.
A sale date will be posted on Twitter and the RetroTINK website as soon as we are ready. No pre-orders: units will be sold and shipped from inventory.
What Inputs are Supported?
We've designed the RT4K to accept virtually all retro video sources to best serve everyone's unique requirements. On the back, we have a component, HD-15 (VGA), and HDMI inputs plus a TOSLINK receiver for optical audio.
The SCART port lives on the side, and the front has an S-video and composite jack hidden behind a sliding door.
We've also tried hard to make the RT4K accept signals from non-mainstream console sources such as PCs and arcade boards. There are currently settings for standard consumer video (240p/288, 480i/576i, 480p/576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) as well as retro PCs (EGA/DOS 70 Hz, VGA, SVGA, XGA, UXGA). Custom profiles with the correct sampling and cropping can be quickly set up for sources that do not yet have built-in definitions using the menu.
The HDMI inputs can accept virtually any custom resolution and frame rate within the maximum bandwidth of the receiver. This means that the RT4K will fully support off-spec sources, such as MiSTer DirectVideo.
What Does it Output?
The primary output of the RT4K is, of course, 4K60 (3840 x 2160, 60 Hz). Other standard built-in modes include 1080p, 1440p and 480p. If you need a custom resolution, drop a modeline text file on to the SD card and they'll automatically appear in the menu!
The RT4K HDMI 2.0 transmitter also supports high frame rate outputs (with some input side limitations) for advanced users.
The RT4K inputs are super flexible. Both the HD-15 and SCART inputs can accept any analog format (with the exception of RGBHV for SCART), opening up options for streamlining your switching setup.
How Does it Scale?
In short? Whatever you want. The RT4K scaling engine lets you scale/crop your source precisely to your individual specifications. Aspect ratio correction and filtering mode (sharp pixel, bilinear, etc.) are adjustable. Or use a free-scaling mode to just define the exact pixel numbers you need.
At 4K resolution, you can perform perfect integer scaling for many common resolutions with perfectly sharp pixels, if you prefer that versus a CRT look. Even non-integer scales look great with bilinear sharp filtering that maintains a crisp look.
And yes, you can get optimal sampling at perfect 4:3 aspect ratios at the same time! The RT4K can automatically perform the necessary PAR transforms for you as well.
Don't worry if this sounds like too much work, by default, most sources will automatically be centered and cropped correctly. The RT4K also has modes to automatically expand/shrink the image while keeping the correct proportions to make adjustments quick and easy.
Other Common Questions
Does it work with MiSTer/Analogue - Yes! The MiSTer direct video mode works great with the RT4K. Analogue consoles may require a little more adjustment, but we expect pre-made profiles to appear in no time.
Rotation -- theoretically possible, but not planned for release.
Smoothing -- same as above.
Movies -- the goal of the TINK products has always been games and games first, but expect to see developments for options to enhance video playback and the movie experience.
Control/Integration -- the RT4K has facilities for control via the HD-15 as well as USB ports. We are planning on some sort of command interface, to be developed post launch.
Does it take TTL sync -- yes on the HD15. SCART port is protected against TTL damage, but would recommend caution as always.
Power -- USB-C 5V 2A.
Is it 4:4:4 -- The RT4K is exclusively RGB444 with an internal deep color processing pipeline and can output deep color HDMI to compatible displays. Sources that are not natively RGB444 (such as composite video) are converted to RGB444 at the front-end.
Is the TINK-5X dead -- we still plan on supporting the TINK-5X and will continue to share development across the two platforms as much as possible. Keep in mind though, that we are still very much a 1-person team :)
What do you think about the RetroTInk 4K? Let me know in the comments!

The New Top Switch Grip? Nexigo Gripcon Gen2 With Hall Effect Sensors
In this episode, we unbox and test out the Gripcon Gen2 from Nexigo, a grip case designed for the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED.
One of the most appealing features of the Nintendo Switch is its dual personality. You have both a home console and a portable all-in-one. Many people, myself included, aren't the biggest fans of playing the Switch in handheld mode due to the stock Joy-Cons. Nexigo has long been making accessories for the Nintendo Switch and has in the past released a grip similar to the Hori Split Pad Pro. They are now upping the game with their new Gripcon, not only designed to give you better ergonomics but better performance with new hall effect sensors on the analog sticks.
The overall design is fairly simple. Larger control sticks on the left and the right-hand side of the unit are joined by a central back. You slide your Switch or Switch OLED down into the rails and your system should connect. I say should because while it worked perfectly for my Switch OLED I could never get my original Switch to connect. I'm reaching out to Nexigo to try to get an answer to this issue.
One of the improvements they have made on this versus their previous generation grips is the inclusion of LED RGB lighting around the analog sticks and the buttons. There are a number of different display modes you can cycle through and a number of different colors. I don't know why but I always like the rainbow color and the breathing where the lights fade in and out. I just think they look neat.
The key improvement on the Gripcon versus other grips out there is the inclusion of hall effect sensors. The stock Joy-Cons use potentiometers to measure the travel and distance of the left and right analog stick. These are inexpensive to produce but because it's a mechanical part it can wear out over time and fail. This is specifically what causes joint. And I don't care what people say on the internet, electronic component cleaners will not repair a broken connection. Hall effect sensors replace this entire mechanism with something that is more robust and resilient, it's also more precise.
As I mentioned, you can insert both the Switch and the Switch OLED into the Gripcon. There are no extra spacers included to use with the Switch so that may have a slight wobble to it side to side, but it's minor. The rubberized back of the Gripcon holds the Switch in place using friction, and a holds it fairly well. The one thing that I found extremely puzzling is the fact that it would connect wirelessly to my Switch OLED while trying to pair to my Switch. I deleted all of my controllers and hit what I thought was a reset button on the Gripcon, but no matter what I could not get it to unpair from my Switch OLED so that I could pair it to my Switch.
Testing what extremely smoothly, minus the issue of connecting it to my original Switch from the OLED. The D-pad felt Good, and in my testing, I could pull off all the moves in Street Fighter using either the analog stick or the D-pad. Both the left and right sticks felt precise without feeling overly sensitive around the center, an issue some controllers have. I was also pleased to see the gyroscopic controls worked properly, as Kirby Tilt and Tumble was perfect. If I wanted to charge through the Gripcon while playing I could via the integrated USB-C port on the bottom.
Why it RoX:
- Hall effect sensor joysticks
- RGB LED lights
- Works with gyro controls
- Reasonably priced
- I don't know how but it worked wirelessly
What could be improved:
- Could not unpair from my Switch OLED
- Still a bit thick for my tastes
- No changeable thumbsticks
- Lacks Amiibo support
Should you buy one?
Even with something like this, I am not the biggest fan of the Switch and handheld mode, call it old man syndrome but for me, the screen needs to be a little bit bigger. That being said this is a very comfortable way to play, the sticks are very accurate, the button presses just work, and this is probably the finest grip case that they have ever produced. I would say it is virtually identical in performance to the NS32 controller that I just recently tested and also really like. If grip cases are your thing, this should be one of the first ones that you look at. When you add in the optional carry case, you have a complete package to play, carry, and protect your Switch.

3 Favorite Wrestlers Who Were Never NWA, WCW, or WWF Champions
As a child of the '80s, there were things I loved. I loved video games, clearly, I loved RC Car racing, Saturday morning cartoons, and of course, I loved wrestling. As such I've continued to watch since then. Originally a WWF kid, I moved over to WCW during the nWo era. I've gone back to watch stuff from the '60s and '70s to see things I've missed, matches I've forgotten, and wrestlers I never saw. I've also gone back and watched the NWA era and Jim Crocket Promotions to see what I missed by sticking to the WWF. Over all that time, and now today, I've watched a lot or wrestling, which got me wondering who are my 3 Favorite Wrestlers Who Were Never NWA, WCW, or WWF World Champions.
Honorable Mention:
Mr. Perfect Curt Henning
One of the greatest technical wrestlers, he was an amazing talent in the ring. Between Perfect and Bret Hart, they set the standard higher than almost any one else. While he was US and Intercontinental champion, he never won the big belt.
Number 3
Scott Hall
Whether he was Razor Ramon or Scott Hall, he was one of the best in the business. The Bad Guy had the best working punches ever, and he sold his rear off. While he won TV Titles, US, Tag, and Intercontinental championships he was never given the strap to have a run. Maybe he was just too cool for it?
Number 2
Rowdy Roddy Piper
Talk about talkers, Hot Rod had the gift for gab! He was the best sort of heel wrestler, the guy that could talk smack and you had to nod because he was right! He had a few face runs too, but Hot Rod never won gold, except for a single Intercontinental Title run and a couple tag team title runs. The argument could be made that he never needed the World Title to get over, he was so over already, but he deserved it.
Number 1
The Enforcer Arn Anderson
Part of the 4 Horsemen, Arn Anderson was so good in his prime. I got to see him in the '80s when he and Tully Blanchard came to the WWF, but until I went back to watch his NWA and WCW runs I never appreciated him. He was so crisp in the ring, and unlike many others, he didn't need to yell to make his point.
Who was your favorite Non-World Champion? Comment Below!

We Can't Believe We Bought Every Atari Jaguar Game We Wanted!
Have you ever bought a video game system just to be able to play a few titles? What about a specific variant? Well, I've done both, most recently with the Atari Jaguar. My friend Russ had one as a kid, and I loved playing it back then. I had a chance to get my own, finally, in the Spring of 2023, but I still needed games. Thankfully the system came with 1 of the three I wanted, Cybermorph, but that still left 2 others I needed to add.
The first one I added was in July 2023 at the Southeast Game Exchange. SEGE has always been a great place to find deals on great games, and I figured I'd be able to find one, if not both, of the games I wanted at a reasonable price. Well, I didn't find it, Jay from @SquarePegs for it for me, and that was a boxed copy of Tempest 2000. It doesn't have the controller insert, but it does have the manual. For the price, I was glad to add this to my collection as the soundtrack is absolutely amazing on this game! Not only that but it's also just a fantastic title too. With this, I was 2 down, 1 to go.
The final game I wanted was Alien vs Predator. Russ had it, I played it back in the day and knew I had to have it. I didn't see any for sale at SEGE, but I looked again when I was at the MoGameCon 2023 in St. Louis, MO. I actually found 3 different copies, all of which I was interested in. Pat from @show-meretro had a beautiful CIB copy for sale, and it wasn't just CIB, it was CIB with all 3 of the controller inserts. He was actually priced below another boxed copy that had the game and the manual, but no controller inserts. Then I saw what I would finally purchase.
One table had a LOOSE copy of AvP for sale! He was asking $70, but came down to $55. We haggled back and forth a little and he eventually came down to $50. For me, I was more than happy with this as I am looking at this to play, not to flip. I Can't Believe We Bought Every Atari Jaguar Game We Wanted, along with the system, for under $350 total.
Have you ever gotten all the titles for a system you've wanted? If so, what system and how did you do it? Let me know in the comments!

Power A Spectra Infinity Enhanced Wired Controller Review
In this episode, we unbox and test out the Spectra Infinity Enhanced Wired Controller for the Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, and Xbox One S from Power A.
One of the most popular accessory manufacturers on the market is Power A. They make controllers, accessories, and other items for a variety of different systems. Over the years I've been a bit harsh on them as a brand as I feel what they provide for features does not match what they provide customers and value. For example, many of their Nintendo Switch controllers are priced at a $50 and higher price point and offer fewer features than other controllers at half the price. The build quality has been okay, the functionality has been decent, but the value for what you pay, at least for me, has not been there.
In early 2023, we tested something from Power A that really surprised us. They had a new charging stand for the Nintendo Switch that, for the money, delivered what they were charging people. After I posted that review, Power A actually reached out to me to ask if I would like to take a look at some of their other accessories. I let them know about my bias ahead of time, that I felt that they had decent equipment albeit overpriced. They still extended an offer to allow me to take a look at one of their latest controllers, the Spectra Infinity Enhanced Wired Controller for the Xbox, which is what you see here.
Out of the box, this is a very close design ergonomically to what Microsoft themselves released. And that does make some sense as this is officially licensed by Microsoft. And speaking to Power A, that's one of the reasons why their accessories and controllers tend to have a higher price tag, that official licensing cost them money so they have to pass that cost on to consumers. It's basic economics and it makes sense. The question I have is how important to the end user is that official licensing agreement? For me, depending on the accessory, not very much.
The Spectra is a wired controller that has a number of RGB lights throughout to give you a level of personalization. There are three different zones where you can customize the lighting, around the left stick and the buttons, around the d-pad and the right stick, and around the center part of the entire controller. Changing colors is fairly easy and it looks darn good. From an aesthetic and style standpoint, this is a good-looking controller.
To connect your controller to your system power A includes a rather long USB cable. The bummer is that it is a Micro USB connection and not USB C. This is a perfect example of how I see them cutting costs and other areas, and quite honestly going USB-C over Micro USB is not a major price difference from a manufacturing standpoint. I really wish they would have included USB-C here. I will say they do include a very nice and very long braided USB cable that has a connector on it to help prevent it from being pulled out accidentally during gameplay. It's a very nice touch and detail.
Connecting it to the Xbox was super easy, both my Xbox One S and Series S connected instantaneously as soon as I plugged in the USB cable. The performance was very good as well, the button presses were accurate, and the D-Pad was a definite improvement over previous generation Xbox systems. One neat feature is that it does also have travel limiters for the triggers on the controller. This gives you a further level of personalization so that you can customize how the controller feels. I can see this being very helpful in certain racing games to make sure that you are smoother on the throttle or brakes depending on what you are needing to accomplish.
Why it rocks:
- Officially licensed by Microsoft
- RGB lights for customization
- 10 ft long braided cable
- Very good performance
- Terrific ergonomics
What could be improved:
- Replace micro USB with USB-C
- $40 for a wired controller seems expensive to me
- It's not wireless
- More color options would be nice
Should you buy one?
I don't quite understand the market for wired controllers at this point, especially for the Xbox. To me, it's one of those things that I think the target audience matters. Xbox players are highly demanding, compared to those who play the Switch for example. That being said, the performance on this is great, it's very comfortable, and it just works. But there are corners cut such as the micro USB versus USB-C port and wired versus wireless in general that just leaves me scratching my head a little bit. If you're looking for a wired Xbox controller, this is definitely a good one, just know you're going to overpay a little bit because of the official licensing.
