Unfortunately last month of ModChat was missed so... I figured I'd double up and pack two episodes worth of content into one for hitting the ONE HUNDREDTH episode milestone! PS3 Toolset makes jailbreaking a PS3 easier, faster, and safer than ever before! If you have a compatible PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.90 or lower, you can easily jailbreak your PS3 using only software! No hardware flashers, no need to take apart the console, not even a need to downgrade! Thanks to the team over at PS3Xploit, anyone with a compatible PS3 can patch their console and install Custom Firmware (CFW). If you have a CFW capable PS3 the first thing you should do is backup your console's NAND or NOR flash to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This should be done on every install, just in case your system needs the flash restored at any point in the process. After verifying your flash dump is proper, you can download the required patch for your console and install it all directly within the browser! This process will download a specific file to your console and "patch" the console so it's ready for CFW. After verifying your PS3 has been patched successfully, you can simply reboot your console, take a 4.90 CFW of your choice, and install it directly through the XMB! In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. All Fat/Phat models work! If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that have a 3.56 or lower minimum firmware version will work, anything showing a higher minimum firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim (30XX) models and all Super Slim models. Although this tutorial was recorded on firmware 4.90, the jailbreak process with PS3 Toolset is the same on higher firmwares as long as all of the software needed has been updated. The only differences would be a firmware specific patch, which PS3 Toolset will download for you, and a different CFW matching your firmware version. If you see the video title and description shows a higher firmware number than what is shown in the video, that means PS3 Toolset has been updated for that specific firmware version. With the PS3Xploit team's domain changing, automatic updates have had trouble working since older versions of PS3HEN were pointed towards the old domain. This has now been updated as of PS3HEN 3.2.0 to point to the new domain, so any automatic updates pushed from the new site should work seamlessly in the future. The Flash Writer returns, this time updated to work on firmware 4.90! If you have a compatible PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.90 or lower, you can easily jailbreak your PS3 using only software! No hardware flashers, no need to take apart the console, not even a need to downgrade! As long as the updated 4.90 Flash Writer can be accessed on your console, a compatible PS3 can be patched to allow for Custom Firmware (CFW) installation. If you have a CFW capable PS3 the first thing you should do is backup your console's NAND or NOR flash to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This should be done on every install, just in case your system needs the flash restored at any point in the process. After verifying your flash dump is proper, you can patch your console for CFW within the browser! This process will download a specific file to your console and "patch" the console so it's ready for CFW. After verifying your PS3 has been patched successfully, you can simply reboot your console, take a 4.90 CFW of your choice, and install it directly through the XMB! In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. All Fat/Phat models work! If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that have a 3.56 or lower minimum firmware version will work, any console with a higher minimum firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim (30XX) models and all Super Slim models. DKOldies is an online retailer specializing in buying, selling, and trading video games, consoles, and accessories. Although they've been around for a while, they gained quite a bit of popularity within the past 2-3 years due to their TikTok presence. Although they've always been criticized for being more expensive than the competition, in recent times several YouTubers have purchased consoles from DKOldies and inspected them on camera. These consoles are proudly sold as "refurbished" but the results we've seen repeatedly have been shocking. Multiple consoles have had issues on first boot, such as games not reading in a disc drive. Many have come in questionable cosmetic shape. Several have been dirty internally, and sometimes externally! Although the worst offense might be these consoles not having their thermal paste replaced. I could have purchased a console from DKOldies, given it a teardown, and laughed about the lack of work done on the console for how much it costs. I decided against that and wanted to do something different, so in this video I take a console I picked up from a thrift shop and show DKOldies what they SHOULD BE doing to classify their consoles as "refurbished" units. Here's to the first episode of 2023! We take a look at a whole slew of systems, first of all we cover ENLBufferPwn being disclosed impacting the 3DS, Wii U, and Switch!
