PicoFlasher has been a super popular solution for people wanting to program their Xbox 360 NAND due to the low cost of entry and easy accessibility of the Raspberry Pi Pico. While it works well for many motherboards, the dreaded Corona 4GB motherboards seem to be hit or miss with PicoFlasher. These might generate a 0xFFFFFFFF error or a "Console Not Found" message within J-Runner. Hardmodded Xbox 360 consoles have access to an "unlocked" original Xbox emulator thanks to modified backwards compatibility files which allow every original Xbox game to boot. While the emulator is impressive, it also has several compatibility issues depending on the game being played and even which specific emulator executable is being used. This could be manually adjusted by renaming the emulator files, but Derf made it much easier thanks to Xefu Spoofer! The much teased SystemOS Kernel Vulnerability for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles has been released! It goes by the name Collateral Damage, the first iteration of it is quite early in development in terms of usability for end-users, but this initial release is mostly targeted for developers to start tinkering with. This works on any Xbox One or Xbox Series console, but it does require the console to be on an outdated Dashboard update along with being prepared with the Game Script application installed. The Flash Writer returns, this time updated to work on firmware 4.91! If you have a compatible PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.91 or lower, you can easily jailbreak your PS3 using only software! No hardware flashers, no need to take apart the console, not even a need to downgrade! As long as the updated 4.91 Flash Writer can be accessed on your console, a compatible PS3 can be patched to allow for Custom Firmware (CFW) installation. If you have a CFW capable PS3 the first thing you should do is backup your console's NAND or NOR flash to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This should be done on every install, just in case your system needs the flash restored at any point in the process. After verifying your flash dump is proper, you can patch your console for CFW within the browser! This process will download a specific file to your console and "patch" the console so it's ready for CFW. After verifying your PS3 has been patched successfully, you can simply reboot your console, take a 4.91 CFW of your choice, and install it directly through the XMB! In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. All Fat/Phat models work! If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that have a 3.56 or lower minimum firmware version will work, any console with a higher minimum firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim (30XX) models and all Super Slim models. Although this tutorial was recorded on firmware 4.91, the jailbreak process with Flash Writer is the same on higher firmwares as long as all of the software needed has been updated. The only differences would be a firmware specific patch, which Flash Writer will download for you, and a different CFW matching your firmware version. If you see the video title and description shows a higher firmware number than what is shown in the video, that means Flash Writer has been updated for that specific firmware version. This requires an application called Game Script, but as of recently it seems the app was not only removed but is also being revoked from any consoles that are only with it installed! A bit of a forgotten gem on the Xbox 360, the long lost Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG) selection once had a ton of indie choices available to digitally download on the console. I've done plenty of tutorials and one-off builds related to different Xbox 360 consoles here on the channel, but I've always had a specific build in mind that I've wanted to accomplish for myself as my "main" console to use. I always loved how the Halo 4 Xbox 360 Slim console looked, and a few years ago I finally ended up buying one for a respectable price! It was console only, not in the greatest shape, but it was good enough for my liking. As things usually go, the console got put to the side and wasn't worked on until recently. After working on a Halo 4 console for a friend of mine, I finally decided to pull my own out of my closet as I was struck with inspiration needed to work on it. This might not be the most impressive build out there, but it's my own personal build, and one that I've wanted for years! This build is a Corona motherboard which comes in the Halo 4 edition of the Xbox 360 Slim. It has had the RGH modification applied to it, meaning it can now be unlocked to play unsigned code in the form of custom Dashboards, game mods, emulators, homebrew, and more! As I still wanted to go online cleanly, this console has also had the Viper V2 Dual-NAND board installed. This will allow the console to flip between a clean Retail NAND and a modified NAND, essentially squishing two consoles into one. This will cover the prerequisites needed, the difference between Extracted or Games on Demand (GoD) formats, handling Title Updates when needed, setting up AutoSwap, and of course the actual installations. Some games have required content to be installed, some games are to be played across multiple discs, and there's at least one outlier game out there in the form of Wolfenstein: The New Order. In the world of emulation on desktops, laptops, consoles, and single board computers, what exactly is MiSTer? I've personally been soldering with a microscope for a bit now and have been pleasantly surprised over how much of a benefit I've had from it. Not only does it make daunting tasks much easier while soldering, but it has also had the side effect of increasing the quality of my work due to becoming more critical of seeing it up close and personal. The Dreamcast ended up getting a big English fan translation patch, with this being the first fan translation for an officially released visual novel on the console! A couple years ago the PS Vita had the KyuHEN homebrew contest, but it looks like it returns in the form of FuHEN which I cover a bit of here. Although nothing has released on this, we take a look at a proof of concept showing full self-booting PS1 backups being possible.
