Gas Facility - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Gas Facility".
Map author: Martin Badowsky
Map review:
The premise of Gas Facility is the following:
"Your squad of Marines have been sent to investigate various SOS calls made from a Weyland-Yutani facility which uses aliens' acidic blood to create poisonous gas for use in warfare.
If things get bad, your priority is to evacuate personnel and activate the self-destruct sequence to destroy all the evidence."
Gas Facility is a fairly good map. It has some scripted sequences with the ai to give some life to the environment. Gameplay is primarily navigating through tunnels and encountering various aliens.

Frosty's Nightmare - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Frosty's Nightmare".
Map author: Cyburk. This map is included in Cyburk's map pack.
Map review:
Frosty's Nightmare is an updated version of the map "sk_royal_flesh". Royal flesh was a decent skirmish map where you play as a human fending off respawning aliens in a hive. If you stay on the upper levels the aliens can't get to you at all unless you lead them there. There are some turrets propped about which help a bit, but it if you venture down into the lower levels, or into the water, it is a death sentence.
In this updated version, a story is given to the map. You play as Frosty (Harrison) who is having a nightmare which consists of him fighting off aliens in their hive. It is the same exact map as the royal flesh version with a few notable exceptions. These include one tunnel that has been blocked off, some ai marines have been added, one synth enemy was added, frequent cutscenes and there is actually now an ending to the map. To beat the map, the player must get past the Queen who is blocking the exit. Once the player reaches the exit, Frosty will wake up from his nightmare.
Frosty's Nightmare is recommended as it is a great upgrade over the original royal flesh map.

Frosty Aliens Predators - POD 1 + 2 - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Frosty Aliens Predators", containing the secret levels called "POD 1" and "POD 2".
Map author: HHO.
Story:
"The Mission"
"Frosty has been sent in to Investigate. Frosty's mission is to find a way in and out of this Weyland supply ghost ship? Battle through Aliens and Humans and Lots of nasty ol preds. Is it an experiment gone wrong? Can Frosty make it?"
Map review:
As previously reviewed here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKIWrzxDkrU , Frosty Aliens Predators (aka FAP, lol) is a massive marine-based singleplayer map reworked from an older multiplayer map. This video highlights the most recent version and probably final release of the map at the time of this upload. For reference it is called FAPSE_UPDATE2017.
This video is somewhat of a redo of my previous playthrough as I had salvaged a quick-save right before I finished the map. Turns out that the author, HHO, has hidden two "expansion levels" in the latest FAPSE map. These maps are POD 1 and POD 2. These maps warranted their own separate review anyway. They can be activated by destroying an egg right before the escape area (near where the player spawns). When the egg is destroyed, POD 1 can be accessed by a newly revealed hacking terminal. Once POD 1 is cleared, a hacking terminal opens up for POD 2 right next to it.
POD 1 is a hedge maze-style map similar to Maze1 (see previous review) with a different look and layout. The player must navigate the maze while being attacked by various enemies. Like in the Maze1 map, POD 1 has the zombie marine and health-regenerating synthetic that will chase the player until the end of the map. It's very challenging and hilarious to watch at times. If the player beats POD 1, he/she is rewarded with POD 2.
POD 2 is another maze-style map, but with an alien hive theme. This map has some traps to kill or slow down the player while fighting off aliens. If the player reaches the end of POD 2, they are teleported inside a cage with Jones. Predators are on top of the cage, while a wall slowly moves to crush Jones and the player. The predators need to be taken out, then the player is teleported again to a predator arena where the player faces off against numerous predators. Once the predators are defeated the player then returns back to the normal FAPSE map. POD 2 is a lot easier than POD 1, but the predators can be quite fast in chasing down the player. Their arena fight is a bit tough but fun nevertheless.
These "expansion levels' are quite fun to play through. I especially enjoyed POD 1. The only problem with these maps is finding them as they are hidden quite well inside the FAPSE map. I should also mention that Jones can be saved before the wall crushes him (I didn't save him) and the predators fight can be played with an exosuit, but I didn't access it earlier in the map. Make sure you check these secret levels out when you play FAPSE. I highly recommend them.

Frosty Aliens Predators - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Frosty Aliens Predators".
Map review:
Frosty Aliens Predators (aka FAP, lol) is a massive marine-based singleplayer map reworked from an older multiplayer map. The author, HHO, released several versions of the map, each with improvements. I actually showcased an early beta release here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctTb5iTEzr4 which was excessively difficult at times.
There are three main versions/editions of the map, each with their own small variations. The first is the original FAP, then there was the special edition version (FAP_SE) and then there is version FAPSE_UPDATE2017 which I played in this video. The 2017 version is the most up to date version of this map at the time of this video and it is probably the final release.
In the map, the player controls Frosty and must infiltrate a large space ship complex loaded with corporates, aliens and predators. Nearly all enemy types appear in the map, even the strikers (mosquito-looking npcs). The initial main mission objective is to stop the corporates from placing bombs to blow up the hive. As the player progresses, he/she must locate the torch and hacking panel. To finish the map quickly, all the player has to do is hack a computer panel to activate the escape ship for launch.
However, what makes this map special is as the player progresses, the map slowly turns more and more treacherous with an ever-increasing hive goo, alarms and ship-shaking galore. It gets VERY intense if the player continues the map beyond the minimum effort required.
The reason for the player to stay extra long on the map is that various new enemies appear as bonus challenges for the player. These are extra predators, a queen, etc. There are various cutscenes in the map indicating that the player has the option to go back and face them if the player chooses to. The player is rewarded with collectible prizes (large in-game actions figures, yes really) for doing so. I know for a fact I found the marine prize, but I'm not sure on the others.
The only real problem with the map is that it can be very confusing at times in where to go or what to do. I had played this map previously and still got lost at one point. This map is great for those who love to explore though and it's very challenging. The ai can be pretty intense and sometimes slightly unfair. The aliens are very headbite-happy and at times the player will have two or more predators spawn at point blank range in front of them.
Personally, I love the challenge. I especially like that this map offers a lot of predator enemies, whereas most maps only have one or two max. I would say for me, the highlight of the map is fighting the predators on the catwalks and in the cramped vents. Moments like this are very adrenaline pumping. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this map.

Friendly Welcome - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Friendly Welcome".
Map author: Red_Riot
Map review:
Friendly Welcome is one of the more unique maps for AvP2. It is somewhat of an on rails shooter, as the player must jump on a fleeing truck while be chased down by aliens. Once on the truck, you can move about a little bit, but it is better to stay still as the trucks are buggy and you can easily fall off and die.
The map is a bit laggy in some of the tunnels, but it is a fun map nevertheless. Be sure to quick save often, as you will randomly be killed by fellow marines or jettisoned from the truck quite often. See my video "Unfriendly Welcome" for examples.

Forge of Honour - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Forge of Honour".
Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk
Story:
"The Yautja's honour is all. Without it, he is worthless. He is nothing to his society; and pride is everything to the clan. Occasionally, a Predator may come to disagreement or cause grievous insult to another of his tribe; and honour must be protected and preserved. A test of Yautja pride is a fight to the death. To this end, the 'Trials of Pride' are conducted amidst the magma-heated background and sulphuric fumes of the great natural furnace arena known as the 'Forge of Honour'."
Map review:
This is a rather unique and interesting map. Forge of Honour is a predator-based skirmish map, in which the player fights off aliens to the death. The map layout is basically a gladiator style map based in hell due to to all the lava, spikes, etc. I should note that in my playthrough I lagged quite a bit, as this map doesn't run that great on my computer. The lightning strikes seem to cause short and sudden lag spikes which greatly interfered with my speargun shooting and crouch jumping.
Nevertheless, this map was still playable. I just made sure to quick-save where appropriate. I would also advise on quick-saving for this one, as the map is indeed a challenging one. While the map isn't a small map, navigating the tight cliffs, wooden planks and broken bridges over the lava pits can be pretty difficult when under alien attacks. Furthermore, you will have to navigate these paths if you intend to pickup the various predator pickups scattered across the map. In my playthrough I tried jumping on top of one of the cages (this cage is used to keep non-predator characters contained in the multiplayer version of the map) but to no avail.
As far as I could tell there is no "safe place" where the player can stand and not be attacked. So the strategy here is to keep moving and grab all the predator powerups/weapons, then challenge the queen by spawning her at the center of the map. The queen can be defeated (not shown in this video), but she takes a ton of damage before she goes down.
Forge of Honour is probably one of the best predator maps due to it just looking really cool and being challenging. Recommended.

Fear 3 - AvP2 Custom Map Campaign (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map campaign titled "Fear 3".
Map author: Brian "PsyKore" Irving.
Map review:
The Fear series of AvP2 maps are wildly regarded as some of the best maps for the game. In Fear 3, PsyKore decided to make this installment a full length campaign with multiple levels. The Fear series never really had any backstory or mission objectives as the player was always just forced to survive. In Fear 3 the player takes the role of a convict (Harrison) who is trying to navigate his way out of harm's way. However this time, there is a bit of story scattered throughout a bunch of computers, pdas and a bunch of sequences leading up to the big boss predator battle.
Fear 3 level design is once again full of dark and creepy corridors with a lot of neat ambient lighting going on. The levels are a bit reminiscent of Doom 3 or any lab in a Resident Evil game. As the previous installments, there is a touch of evil, satanic stuff going on in the maps. New to the series is a bit of psychological horror with ghosting aliens early in the campaign. As in the Fear 3 demo, PsyKore introduces custom textures, sounds and skins to further fit the horror atmosphere.
Difficulty in Fear 3 ranges from difficult to easy. Certain areas in the maps have a bunch of jumps scares with attacking aliens that can easily catch you off guard. Whereas some maps in the campaign are more about exploration and investigating to progress. If the player quick saves often, they should be able to beat the campaign in around an hour or so. Fear 3 is a near perfect campaign that could easily rival the Monolith campaign as it is well executed. If I were to nitpick, there is one missing texture, a predator that is unfortunately invincible halfway in the campaign (to later be defeated) and an underwhelming ending.
The ending of Fear 3 leaves the player, or at least me, wanting a final installment for Fear 4. Unfortunately, it looks like it won't be made. While I still think the original Fear map is the best in the series, Fear 3 gives the most bang for your back in terms of both quality and quantity. Fear 3 is highly recommended.

Fear 3 Demo - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Fear 3 Demo".
Map author: Brian "PsyKore" Irving.
Map review:
The Fear series of AvP2 maps are wildly regarded as some of the best maps for the game. This is the demo for the Fear 3 map. Interestingly enough, the demo and the final version of Fear 3 are quite different. As far as Fear 3 goes, the player once again plays as a marine that is dropped in a scary map with no objectives or story. The goal like the previous Fear maps is to reach the end of the map and survive. PsyKore decided to use some custom content for the Fear 3 demo, in that there are new shotgun and level sounds, new level textures and new alien skins. The alien skins look darker and are harder to see in the dark corridors.
Speaking of level sounds, the map has a constant mechanical and grinding loop that never stops. While it fits for the map, it is a bit annoying to hear it over and over. The rest of the map is great though. The map looks extra detailed, probably due to new textures and great use of ambient lighting once again. Level design returns to dark and spooky corridors as in Fear 1, although they aren't as cramped here. The map's difficulty is fair, but since it is just a demo, it is not deep enough to test how hard it is to go far on health and ammo. However, it should be noted that the alien ai tend to wall-walk and pounce more than in the previous installments.
The Fear 3 demo is sometimes overlooked by players who just play the main Fear maps, not realizing that the demo is very different from the final Fear 3 map. The map is very short, but great nevertheless. If you enjoyed the other Fear maps, check this one out as it is also recommended.
Fear 2 - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Fear 2".
Map author: Brian "PsyKore" Irving.
Map review:
The Fear series of AvP2 maps are wildly regarded as some of the best maps for the game. This is the second installment in the series. In Fear 2, the player plays as the marine and is once again dropped in a scary map with no backstory or objectives. The player starts off outside and eventually makes their way underground. Once here the player will encounter creepy corridors and spooky lighting effects similar to the original Fear map. However, the horror element feels toned down a bit this time as the corridors and rooms are a lot less cramped. Some of the rooms are actually very spacious as the player has more freedom to roam around.
Fear 2 marks the first time marine npcs are introduced. They can easily die and don't help much, but they're there. The difficulty is also a bit easier this time, probably given the more generous ammo pickups and extra room to evade enemies. It should also be noted that the map isn't as dark as the first. The most memorable part of the map for most people is the jump scare with the dog. Every person that plays this map for the first time seems to get surprised by this very moment. However, for me personally, the best moment of the map is the ending. It is the ending where PsyKore ramps up the horror element. Like the first Fear, the author likes to end the map with some satanic praetorian room with creepy sounds galore.
Fear 2, like the original Fear is a must play for those seeking horror-based AvP2 maps. This map is highly recommended.

Fear - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Fear".
Map author: Brian "PsyKore" Irving.
Map review:
The Fear series of AvP2 maps are wildly regarded as some of the best maps for the game. This is the first and original installment in the series. In Fear, the player plays as the marine and is dropped in a scary map with no backstory or objectives. There is an immediate sense of dread and isolation as the entire map has an incredibly eerie and creepy feel. The corridors are all very dark with slight glimpses of light popping up every now and then. Often times the player will be in complete darkness and must rely on the shoulder lamp and flares.
Not only is the level design geared towards horror and suspense, but the gameplay is too as enemies will often pop out with little to no notice. Ammo and health pickups are rather sparse and must be thoroughly searched for to find them. Quite honestly, the map is near perfection and rivals the maps that Monolith made for the game. One could easily argue that Fear is scarier than any of the Monolith maps. If I were to nitpick, some of the infinite respawning aliens in the vents come off a bit cheap and there isn't a true ending cutscene per say. Regardless, as far as horror-based AvP2 maps go, Fear is a masterpiece. Highly recommended.

Exosuit Arena Marine - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Exosuit Arena Marine".
Map author: Modmaker.
Map review:
"Exosuit Arena Marine" (EAM) is by far my favorite custom map ever made for AvP2. This may surprise some as the map is not the most advanced and there are other maps out there that have way more attention to detail. But for me personally, EAM does something unique that none of the other maps really do. What is this? Well it is spawning a ton of ai npcs from all three species at the same time all over the map. As soon as the map starts, there are npcs running around looking for a fight.
There are predators, aliens, marines and corporates galore. There are even synthetics spawning. Many of the npcs are carrying various weapons as well. Modmaker attempted to create a singleplayer, skirmish/team-deathmatch feel with this map. Thus all the chaos. As for the player, the player will spawn as a marine next to a wall. If the player doesn't get moving within the first 10 seconds of the map, the player will either be attacked by aliens or receive a rocket to the face. It's a pretty intense map. Truthfully, all of the enemies are pretty dumb in their ai. They will target the first enemy they lock onto and walk past all other npcs, including the player, unless they are attacked by a new target or their original target is destroyed.
As for the map layout, it is somewhat a rework of one of the original AvP2 prefab/sample maps. Modmaker made tweaks here and there to change the look to the point where it looks like a whole new design. The map has multiple levels. There is the floor level the player spawns on, two basement levels, an upper level above ground and a rooftop level. As the player walks around the map, enemy spawns will trigger new enemy types. In my first playthrough, I attempted to trigger all enemy types to attack me simultaneously. In my final playthrough in the video, I played a more passive strategy to let all the ai attack each other and just observe. Once the player figures out the spawns, the ai can be toyed with quite a bit.
As mentioned in the map name, there are exosuits available. They can be accessed by the player, but once inside the exosuit, the player can't step out of them unfortunately. Another interesting note about this map is that it is my go to map for testing any mod I make for AvP2. Due to so many npcs spawning and fighting, it's a quick way to see how the game is affected with a new mod. It may not be the best map out there, as it is certainly one of the oldest maps. However, Exosuit Arena Marine is a classic in my book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND playing it.

Encapsulation - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "SP_Encapsulation" or "Encapsulation".
Map author: Randall_Boggs_Rocks

'The journey will be a hard one but frankly I don't give a flyin'...' and 'Get milk on your way home.' Shortly after we recieved co-ordonates to a certain place on the planet LA-666.
Since we don't have anything better to do we're sending you to investigate. But since I think this is a load of crap I'm only gonna waste one soldier.
Things are about to get trippy..."
Map review:
Encapsulation is probably the most "out-there" map for AvP2. It starts off as a standard marine-style map, but then it quickly becomes an acid trip. There are a series of VERY weird rooms consisting of unusual texture choices, sounds an unused AvP2 models that are better left to seeing with your own eyes than me explaining what they are. The author did include a kaiju-style monkey, which I thought was a very nice touch.
Unfortunately the map doesn't really have an ending as it just ends. Nevertheless, I would say this is a fun map because it will leave you asking wtf. However, you'll want to keep seeing what other odd things will be introduced as you play the map.

This map comes from the twisted mind of Windebieste, who thought it would be fun to leave the player unarmed in a pit, while being chased by angry praetorians. Dropship Down - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Dropship Down".
Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk
Map review:
Dropship Down is a marine-based skirmish map in which the player fends off enemy aliens. The setting of the map is as the name suggests; a dropship crash site in a canyon forest. This is actually one of the hardest skirmish maps even though the map layout is quite small. The smallness of the map makes the player cramped with little freedom to evade the npc aliens. The canyon is actually a perfect ambush site for aliens to attack the player. Thus, it is difficult to survive long.
The only real negative is that the player will often be running circles while evading the aliens on this map. While this is true for most skirmish maps, due to the small size, the player will quickly notice that they are doing laps around the map. Regardless, the map is fun for a quick run.

Doom E1M1 - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Doom_E1M1".
Map author: leatherface5883
Map review:
This map is a port of Doom's episode 1, map 1. It has pretty much all the Doom textures and is a near perfect port in terms of level design. Many of the secrets or hidden areas of the Ultimate Doom version of the map are not here though. While the map looks cool, it does not play as fun as the original Doom. The pistol and shotgun feel tremendously under-powered compared to Doom's weaponry.
This is not a fault of the map, but it's two different games. In Doom, it's a lot easier to shotgun enemies from long distances. In AvP2, you must be REALLY close to make shotgun blasts work. However, the enemies in this map are far more lethal with the shotgun than the player. You will have to use your pistol a lot more and run around in circles to evade enemies.
For some unknown reason, the famous E1M1 music is not included in the map. I've added the song to my gameplay video because the map feels wrong without it. If you choose to play the map, note that there will be no music at all.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "DM_Outpost29".
Map author: HHO
Map review: This looks like a cool tower defense map based on the Starship Troopers movie, in which the player fends off aliens as a marine. However, in this custom map the aliens only target the player. The difficulty can be quite challenging as swarms of endless aliens will attack you and easily pin you down if you venture onto the field. The turrets can help a bit, but they can also take you down if you get in their line of fire. There is a multiplayer version of this map as well, which I would recommend over the singleplayer version as both versions play the same, but it is more enjoyable for the map to be played with teammates.

Story:
"You and your squad embark on your last and final mission, go out with a bang as it will be your last. How long can you survive with your team? Or without? NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, IT'S A DEAD END FOR YOU!!!"
Map review:
Dead End is a marine based skirmish map that is heavily influenced by the film Aliens. The map layout consists of long corridors, long ventilation shafts, plus a few rooms reminiscent from the film Aliens. The added Aliens music and Hudson sound effects further emphasize the film reference. KrazeD threw in some weapon and aliens skins as well to give the map a different feel. The difficulty is pretty good, as if you get cornered the aliens will rip you apart. The ai marines will aid you in stalling the enemy aliens, but they can get ripped apart pretty easily. It's a fun map until you realize you have no where else to go (hence the name dead end), then the map starts to get a bit dull.

Map review:
Snakebite is one of my personal favorite maps due to the large size and its unique desert look. Due to the large size of the map, the player can take approaches from different directions to get past the apc. Furthermore, depending on your approach, some other ai will spawn such as another predator and some aliens. The player can also attempt to save the corporate allies if fast enough, but I let their fight play out to see what happened. The difficulty of the map is on the high scale, with many traps and enemies that can quickly kill you via long range. I haven't played this map in a long time, so I died in a few sections. This is a highly recommended map.

Crash Land - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Crash Land".
Map author: Modmaker.
Map review:
Crash Land is one of the earliest custom maps made for AvP2 and it tries to do quite a bit. The map starts with an opening cutscene of a predator ship forcing the crash landing of the marine dropship. This is where the player takes control of a marine leading his squad. The goal of the map is to essentially reach the endpoint of the map.
The map is broken three major sections. The first is where the marines encounter predators npcs, then a section of alien npcs, followed by the third section of mostly human npcs. The ai marines in the player's squad are supposed to accompany the player throughout the level. They are extremely buggy and often stand around doing nothing. Once they do start following the player, they will follow but always lag behind in the distance. One of the marines is a medic which can resupply the player with health upon activation.
For whatever reason, the marines stop following the player once they make it to sentry gun/turret in the hive. From here on out, the player must complete the remainder of the map solo. I had played this map in the past multiple times and have been able to beat it easily without dieing. In my replaying of this map, I had forgotten what to do and mess up a few times. Towards the end of the map the player must grab a bomb to plant on the apc to proceed to the final door of the map. I attempted to grab the bomb early and it wouldn't work. It should be noted that the apc must spawn first, then the player can grab the bomb.
This map can be a bit difficult at first. There are a few traps and some of the ai can instantly kill the player. While not perfect, it does a lot of neat things and is a classic map.

Combat Pit - AvP2 Custom Map (Complete Playthrough)
Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Combat Pit".
Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk
Map review:
Combat Pit is a marine skirmish map built off Windebieste's predator map called Gladiator. As the marine, the player fights in the same gladiator arena against hordes of aliens. If the player tries to retreat back into any of the spawning chambers, the player will fall into one of many death traps. Thus, the player is encouraged to stay in the arena and continue fighting until their ultimate demise. To stay alive, the player must grab the shotgun and frequent the ammo boxes. There are a few other weapons to get a hold of, as they are hard to access and spawn new enemy types.
Combat Pit is essentially the marine version of a shortened Gladiator map. However, I much preferred the original map as it let the player explore a bit in the underground tunnels. Nevertheless, its fun for quick skirmish.

Aliens vs Predator 2 singleplayer custom map titled "Circle of Death: Char Grilled Edition".
Map author: Phil 'Windebieste' Wlodarczyk and Tutonic Monkey
Map review:
Circle of Death: Char Grilled Edition is one of the more unique skirmish maps for AvP2. The map layout is a series of floating rock platforms that hover over lava in the center of an active volcano. One of the platforms has a control panel that can be activated to spawn various alien enemy types. The player takes control of the predator and can spawn the enemies as they please. There isn't much room to fight and weapon selection is limited. Thus, that is the real challenge for the player. Overall, its a fun and quick map to play.
