"#DrunkenSailor" is a #SeaShanty, also known as "What Shall We Do with a/the Drunken Sailor?"
The #shanty was sung to accompany certain work tasks aboard #SailingShips, especially those that required a bright walking pace. It is believed to originate in the early 19th century or before, during a period when ships' crews, especially those of military vessels, were large enough to permit hauling a rope whilst simply marching along the deck. With the advent of merchant packet and clipper ships and their smaller crews, which required different working methods, use of the shanty appears to have declined or shifted to other, minor tasks.
"Drunken Sailor" was revived as a popular song among non-sailors in the 20th century, and grew to become one of the best-known songs of the shanty repertoire among mainstream audiences. It has been performed and recorded by many musical artists and appeared in many popular media.
Although the song's lyrics vary, they usually contain some variant of the question, "What shall we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?" In some styles of performance, each successive verse suggests a method of sobering or punishing the drunken sailor. In other styles, further questions are asked and answered about different people.
The song is No. 322 in the #RoudFolkSong Index. For more details see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Sailor

How I Create My Channel Art - Man #Duck - 28 Hours of Drawing in Under 8 mins

If you’ve been a watcher of my channel for a while now, you’ve probably noticed my channel art!
From the finger that points to my instruments to many of the instruments themselves, along with the many other obviously “drawn” people and things throughout my tutorials.
Well, in this video, I’ve decided to unveil my technique and demystify how it is that a simple wanna be musician like myself is able to draw such a wide range of peculiar art pieces for my videos.
My main concern is that the demystification process will prove me to be a hack, artistically speaking at least! If you watch my earlier videos you will notice that my pictures were terrible! The fingers were creepy, the instruments a joke and the animation even jokier!
But the more time I spent in Adobe Animate, the more determined I became about delivering better quality. I imported pictures of the things I wanted to “Draw”. I traced them and ended up with better pictures but still with a cartoony outline… so I zoomed in and traced again. I discovered that the more I zoomed into a picture and traced around the various shapes and colours the better the “drawing” became. At one point I discovered I could create photorealistic pictures the more I zoomed in and traced around whatever shapes appeared on my screen…. but not only was that incredible time consuming, it also crashed my computer half a million times!
And like my wife said, “Why not use stock photos instead?”
Which was of course a good point.
Recently I was introduced to the work of artist Sue Cooper. She had seen one of my Duck photos on Unsplash and recreated a beautiful watercolour of the same Duckling in this video. I discovered she had a channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS7b...) in which she did timelapse videos of her process, which I found captivating.
Now obviously there are a bagillion artists who do the same, but none of them had ever done one of one of my photos, so there!
But it was after watching these time lapse paintings that I began to really consider that maybe some of you might like to see how I do mine?
And this video was there result! What you are watching in this video is the result of approximately 28 hours of screen time by yours truly. Thankfully I've been studying lately and had a lot of important lecture notes to listen to while I did this, otherwise I would have gone insane!
The final product of this video will be available to purchase on opensea.io by the way... eventually. Stay tuned for the link.
My apologies if the video is too fast. But I was determined to fit 28 hours worth of giggery pokery into just over 7 minutes of video, or in other words the music I was setting it to was 7 minutes long and I didn't want to go beyond that!
Speaking of music, the piece this video is set to is "And There is Madness in Our Hearts" by Kerin Gedge and I'll share a link to where it can be downloaded eventually!
If figured this would be a good, sneaky way of forcing people to listen to my music in any case ;)
As mentioned above, all my work is done using Adobe Animate, but if you wanted to give this technique a try yourself I'm sure you could do an even better job using Adobe Photoshop.
All my work is also done on a MacBook Pro. Sorry to disappoint you PC enthusiasts, but I love my Mac... I think it's pretty rad.

This is to protect the channel, Kerin Gedge, from any complications that may arise due to copyright claims. But it also aids the musical student with the belief that most popular public domain songs are already deeply embedded in the player’s subconscious, which lends itself to the learning experience. For example tunes like #TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar, #HappyBirthday or even #ChristmasSongs like #SilentNight or #JingleBells are so entrenched in modern western minds that learning the songs is “easy” because you’re already half way there!
Although on occasion #KerinGedge will provide a lesson on a modern popular song without monetising the video. Examples include #TheCoffinDanceMeme which became very popular during 2020, #BillyJoel’s #PianoMan or #Snufkin the harmonica playing wanderer from the #Moomin series.

Mary Had a Little Lamb" is an English language nursery rhyme of nineteenth-century American origin. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 7622.
The nursery rhyme was first published by the Boston publishing firm Marsh, Capen & Lyon, as a poem by Sarah Josepha Hale on May 24, 1830, and was possibly inspired by an actual incident.[1] As described in one of Hale's biographies:
"Sarah began teaching young boys and girls in a small school not far from her home [in Newport, New Hampshire]...It was at this small school that the incident involving 'Mary's Lamb' is reputed to have taken place. Sarah was surprised one morning to see one of her students, a girl named Mary, enter the classroom followed by her pet lamb. The visitor was far too distracting to be permitted to remain in the building and so Sarah 'turned him out.' The lamb stayed nearby till school was dismissed and then ran up to Mary looking for attention and protection. The other youngsters wanted to know why the lamb loved Mary so much and their teacher explained it was because Mary loved her pet. Then Sarah used the incident to get a moral across to the class:

#HappyBirthdayToYou, also known as #HappyBirthday, is a song traditionally sung to celebrate the anniversary of a person's birth. According to the 1998 #GuinnessWorldRecords, it is the most recognized song in the English language, followed by #ForHesaJollyGoodFellow. The song's base lyrics have been translated into at least 18 languages.[1] The melody of "Happy Birthday to You" comes from the song "Good Morning to All",[2] which has traditionally been attributed to American sisters Patty and Mildred J. Hill in 1893,[3][4] although the claim that the sisters composed the tune is disputed see more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Birthday_to_You

Today’s quick tale comes from YouTube user Panda-pye365 of Montana, Who recalls how at the young age of only 5 years old she saw what she described as a “strange object in the air.”
There was nothing unusual about that day before the event took place. She had made new friends with a girl who had just moved in across the street, who, along with the new girl’s brother, taught her the intricacies of a new game they called hide and seek tag.
The three of them played the day away, having a lot of fun, until in the middle of the game, while Panda made a mad dash for an old Ford Bronco which had been designated as the game’s “Safety Zone”, she suddenly felt a strange urge to stop running and to look up…
She recalls that the sky that day was clear and blue. No wind nor a simple breeze was felt by the tall pines as they stood perfectly still, pointing like giant wooden fingers to the mystery in the sky…
There was an object above, perfectly round and in her words, impossibly reflective. She stared at the strange orb and felt her entire body turn cold. She found herself having the curious sensation that even as she observed this suspended sphere in the sky, it too was watching her.
Only moments later it moved, first in a little loop and then zooming away at an unearthly speed.
Being a 5 year old child, Panda went right back to playing her game of hide and seek tag with her new found friends.
Considering the length of time that has passed since she saw the strange silver eye in the sky, Panda has wondered if this was perhaps a dream, did it really happen?
Perhaps if this was a one time happening it would be easy to dismiss, but the truth is that human beings have been encountering objects in the sky for hundreds of years.
More recently, in 2020, according to www.satelliteinternet.com, Montana ranked number two among the US states with the most UFO sightings that year. https://www.satelliteinternet.com/resources/states-with-the-most-ufo-sightings/ , so it is not outside the realm of possibility that she saw something, and perhaps wasn’t the only one who saw it that day...

Yankee Doodle" is a well-known American song and a nursery rhyme, the early versions of which predate the Seven Years' War and American Revolution.[1] It is often sung patriotically in the United States today and is the state anthem of Connecticut.[2] Its Roud Folk Song Index number is 4501. The melody is thought to be much older than both the lyrics and the subject, going back to folk songs of Medieval Europe - learn more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Doodle

If you can follow the this how to video then you’re well on your way to becoming a musician. But don’t expect to “get it” over night. Practicing your instrument will always make perfect. What else can I tell you?
If this isn't the song for you or you're looking for something else to play on your harmonica then click on my playlists! I have tons of other easy songs available for not just the diatonic harmonica but also for Tremolo and Chromatic! Am I repeating myself? But seriously, check out my playlists!
All my tutorials are made using Adobe Animate. Special thanks to Unsplash for the stock photos and Logic Pro X for the audio which I painstakingly record myself!
The harmonica sounds are unfortunately made with a Sampler. What you hear in these videos is actually my harmonica which has been recorded and modified on Logic Pro X, which is why it sounds "synthy"... but doing this way allows me to make my tutorials faster!
Finally special thanks to Free-Notes.net (https://www.free-notes.net/cgi-bin/no...) who for many of my tutorials have helped me greatly while hunting for the notes for my lessons. I really hope you subscribe and share my work. Though this is mainly a massive labour of love, my personal love for making music, it is also nice to see my subscriber base grow!

How to Play the Streets of Laredo on the Harmonica

#StreetsOfLaredo, also known as the #CowboysLament, is a famous #American #cowboy #ballad in which a dying cowboy tells his story to another cowboy. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 #Western songs of all time.[2]
Derived from the #TraditionalFolkSong #TheUnfortunateRake, the song has become a folk music standard, and as such has been performed, recorded and adapted numerous times, with many variations. The title refers to the city of #Laredo, #Texas.
Tune Basics is the popular music #education series created by #NewZealand based #musician/content creator Kerin Gedge. It is designed to teach anybody who wants to learn the fundamentals or very basics of how to play #MusicalInstruments which includes #DiatonicHarmonica, #TremoloHarmonica with 24 holes, Tremolo #Harmonica with 16 holes, Tremolo Harmonica with 20 holes, #ChromaticHarmonica, kalimba with ten keys, recorder and #PennyWhistle (also known as #TinWhistle).
The aim of Tune Basics is to acquaint the student with clear graphic based #instructions for how to play simple and recognisable songs. Tune Basics will typically avoid delving too deeply into technique or musical styles but will, where possible, provide the pupil with relevant links to professional musicians who can take the learner deeper when they are ready to move on from basic #lessons.
Generally speaking Tune Basics will focus more on popular songs that are in the #PublicDomain.
#TuneBasics also provides #HarmonicaTabs #TinWhistleTabs /#PennyWhistleTabs and #KalimbaTabs on the Tune Basics blog, link provided above. Please be sure to browse our #TABS list as often we will provide TABS that are yet to be animated into #Tutorials. In other words you may find TABS for songs that aren’t available on the channel.

"#WaltzingMatilda" is #Australia's best-known bush #ballad, and has been described as the country's "unofficial national #anthem".[1]
The title was Australian slang for travelling on foot (waltzing) with one's belongings in a "matilda" (swag) slung over one's back.[2] The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker, or "swagman", making a drink of billy tea at a bush camp and capturing a stray jumbuck (sheep) to eat. When the jumbuck's owner, a squatter (landowner), and three troopers (mounted policemen) pursue the swagman for theft, he declares "You'll never catch me alive!" and commits suicide by drowning himself in a nearby billabong (watering hole), after which his ghost haunts the site.
The original lyrics were written in 1895 by Australian poet #BanjoPaterson, and were first published as sheet music in 1903. Extensive #folklore surrounds the song and the process of its creation, to the extent that it has its own museum, the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, in the Queensland outback, where Paterson wrote the lyrics.

The song has been covered by various artists such as Robin Mark, David Nevue, Kathryn Sarah Scott, Selah, Kathy Troccoli, Michelle Tumes, Matthew Ward, and Kelly Willard. It appears in twenty hymnals and has been described as a 'classic.

In today’s tale we’ll be visiting the strange occurrences of a supernatural nature that have occurred in the 110-year-old St James Theatre in Wellington, New Zealand.
I like sharing the tales of ghosts that are common to my own country because we are a young nation in the greater scheme of Western civilization. So often it is a given that we associate hauntings with centuries old castles and other ancient buildings; the edifices of whatever society left them to be occupied by generations of human interaction, whilst here in New Zealand the oldest European building is The Mission House at Kerikeri, built only in 1822. Even New Zealand’s indigenous people, the Maori, made these lands their home as early as the 1250s, a time when England’s Windsor Castle was already close to 300 years old! And yet my country maintains its own rich traditions of hauntings and happenings of the bizarre, proving that the age of a thing is not necessarily a prerequisite for ghostly appearances…
Located in New Zealand’s capital, and home of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the St James Theatre has been described as the jewel in the crown of Wellington's flourishing theatre scene… and yet, while it has staged countless performances over the past century for the delight of many an audience, behind the scenes a different type of performance has unfolded, acted out by the unusual and unseen....

#YankeeDoodle is a well-known #Americansong, the early versions of which date to before the #SevenYearsWar and the #AmericanRevolution.[1] It is often sung patriotically in the United States today and is the state #anthem of Connecticut.[2] Its Roud #FolkSong Index number is 4501. The melody is thought to be much older than both the lyrics and the subject, going back to folk songs of #MedievalEurope

"Itsy Bitsy Spider" (also known as "Incy Wincy Spider" in Australia[1] and Great Britain,[2] and several other similar-sounding names) is a popular nursery rhyme and fingerplay that describes the adventures of a spider as it ascends, descends, and reascends the downspout or "waterspout" of a gutter system (or, alternatively, the spout of a teapot or open-air reservoir). It is usually accompanied by a sequence of gestures that mimic the words of the song. Its Roud Folk Song Index number is 11586.
Most common lyrics are:
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the waterspout.
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again

These TABS are for a Tremolo Harmonica with 24 holes / 48 tones.
If you find they are moving too fast then please slow the video play back speed down or press pause so you are able to master each phrase before moving on.
So now, a little bit about this song and its history (thanks wikipedia!) In 1910, in Bath, Somerset, the English lawyer and lyricist Frederic Weatherly initially wrote the words to "Danny Boy" to a tune other than "Londonderry Air". After his Irish-born sister-in-law Margaret Enright Weatherly (known as Jess) in the United States sent him a copy of "Londonderry Air" in 1913 (an alternative version of the story has her singing the air to him in 1912 with different lyrics), Weatherly modified the lyrics of "Danny Boy" to fit the rhyme and meter of "Londonderry Air".
Weatherly gave the song to the vocalist Elsie Griffin, who made it one of the most popular songs of the new century. In 1915, Ernestine Schumann-Heink produced the first recording of "Danny Boy".
Jane Ross of Limavady is credited with collecting the melody of "Londonderry Air" in the mid-19th century from a musician she encountered.
Personally I've never even heard of Londonderry Air, but if you're looking for a harmonica lesson on how to play Londonderry Air then this is the tutorial for you I guess!
The original lyrics by Frederick E. Weatherly wen something like this.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, It's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow,—
Oh, Danny boy, Oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Avé there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend
and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
That sounds about right.
As for what the lyrics actually mean you can read more about this classic song by visiting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Boy
Now as for the various other things in this tutorial, the crazy gold bathing Leprechaun was drawn by me. That's right, I drew that. It was borrowed from my story The Majestic Unicorn which for the curious among you can be read hear https://kertoons.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-majestic-unicorn.html If enough people ask me, maybe I'll make a video based on it one day. I would have done it already but no one seems to like my songs/stories, they just want me for my tutorials.
The wonderful green clover patch was pulled from Timothy Dykes on Unsplash https://unsplash.com/@timothycdykes
I drew the rainbow myself too. The special effects. Those were me, with a little help from Adobe Audition and the audio, all recorded by me on Logic Pro X and using my snow ball blue, for the most part... well, for the some part... can't remember what the name of my other mic is. Anyway, if you are the impatient type and can't wait, and I mean really can't actually wait for reals, until my next video comes out then don't forget, you can check out my TABS page, there's a link in the description below, and until next time stay tuned.

"Drunken Sailor", also known as "What Shall We Do with a/the Drunken Sailor?", is a traditional sea shanty, listed as No. 322 in the Roud Folk Song Index. It was sung onboard sailing ships at least as early as the 1830s, and it shares its tune with the traditional Irish folk song "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile".
The song's lyrics vary, but usually contain some variant of the question, "What shall we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?" In some styles of performance, each successive verse suggests a method of sobering or punishing the drunken sailor. In other styles, further questions are asked and answered about different people.
"Drunken Sailor" was revived as a popular song among non-sailors in the 20th century, and grew to become one of the best-known songs of the shanty repertoire among mainstream audiences. It has been performed and recorded by many musical artists and appeared regularly in popular culture.
Refrain:
Weigh heigh and up she rises (/Hoo-ray and up she rises)
Weigh heigh and up she rises (/Patent blocks of different sizes)
Weigh heigh and up she rises
Early in the morning
Traditional verses:
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
Early in the morning?
Put/chuck him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Put him in the long-boat and make him bail her.
What shall we do with a drunken soldier?
Put/lock him in the guard room 'til he gets sober.
Put him in the scuppers with a hosepipe on him.
Pull out the plug and wet him all over.
Tie him to the taffrail when she's yardarm under
Heave him by the leg in a runnin' bowline.
Scrape the hair off his chest with a hoop-iron razor.
Give 'im a dose of salt and water.
Stick on his back a mustard plaster.
Keep him there and make 'im bail 'er.
Give 'im a taste of the bosun's rope-end.
What'll we do with a Limejuice skipper?
Soak him in oil till he sprouts a flipper.
What shall we do with the Queen o' Sheba?
What shall we do with the Virgin Mary?
Additional verses:
Tie him to the mast and then you flog him.
Keel haul him till he's sober.
Shave his chin with a rusty razor.
Beat 'im o'r wi' a cat-o-nine-tails.
Shave his belly with a rusty razor.
Give 'im a hair of the dog that bit him.
Put him in the bilge and make him drink it.
Put him in bed with the captain's daughter.
Hit him on the head with a drunken soldier
Put him in the back of a paddy wagon (Great Big Sea)
Take him to the pub and get him drunker
Have you seen the Captain's Daughter? (various)

Generally speaking Tune Basics will focus more on popular songs that are in the #PublicDomain.

In some styles of performance, each successive verse suggests a method of sobering or punishing the drunken sailor. In other styles, further questions are asked and answered about different people.
The song is No. 322 in the #RoudFolkSong Index. For more details see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Sailor

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is an English Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The carol, based on Luke 2:14, tells of an angelic chorus singing praises to God. As it is known in the modern era, it features lyrical contributions from Charles Wesley and George Whitefield, two of the founding ministers of Methodism, with music adapted from "Vaterland, in deinen Gauen" by Felix Mendelssohn.
Wesley, who had written the original version as "Hymn for Christmas-Day," had requested and received slow and solemn music for his lyrics, which has since largely been discarded. Moreover, Wesley's original opening couplet is "Hark! how all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings".[1] The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, most notably by Whitefield, who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one. In 1840—a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems—Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of movable type printing, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", that propels the carol known today
Common lyrics
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the newborn king;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the new-born king"
Christ, by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb:
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King"
Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness![a]
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings;
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the new-born king"
