Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is an English Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The carol, based on Luke 2:14, tells of an angelic chorus singing praises to God. As it is known in the modern era, it features lyrical contributions from Charles Wesley and George Whitefield, two of the founding ministers of Methodism, with music adapted from "Vaterland, in deinen Gauen" by Felix Mendelssohn.
Wesley, who had written the original version as "Hymn for Christmas-Day," had requested and received slow and solemn music for his lyrics, which has since largely been discarded. Moreover, Wesley's original opening couplet is "Hark! how all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings".[1] The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, most notably by Whitefield, who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one. In 1840—a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems—Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of movable type printing, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", that propels the carol known today
Common lyrics
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the newborn king;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the new-born king"
Christ, by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb:
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald-angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King"
Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness![a]
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings;
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the new-born king"

"Be Thou My Vision" (Old Irish: Rop tú mo baile or Rob tú mo bhoile) is a traditional Christian hymn of Irish origin. The words are based on a Middle Irish poem that has traditionally been attributed to Dallán Forgaill.[1]
The best-known English version, with some minor variations, was translated in 1905 by Mary Elizabeth Byrne in 1905, then made into verse by Eleanor Hull and published in 1912. Since 1919 it has been commonly sung to an Irish folk tune, noted as "Slane" in church hymnals,[1][2] and is one of the most popular hymns in the United Kingdom.
English Lyrics by Eleanor Hull
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;Be all else but naught to me, save that Thou art;Be Thou my best thought in the day and the night,Both waking and sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;Be Thou ever with me, and I with Thee, Lord;Be Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son;Be Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my Breastplate, my Sword for the fight;Be Thou my whole Armor, be Thou my true Might;Be Thou my soul's Shelter, be Thou my strong Tow’r,O raise Thou me heav’nward, great Pow’r of my pow’r.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise;Be Thou mine inheritance, now and always;Be Thou and Thou only the first in my heart,O high King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, Thou heaven's bright Sun,O grant me its joys, after vict'ry is won;Great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,Still be Thou my vision, O Ruler of all.
Although there are quite a few variations, not the least of which being the original Old Irish version.

"Soft Kitty" is a children's song, popularized by the characters Sheldon and Penny in the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory, and which elsewhere may be rendered as "Warm Kitty".[1] A 2015 copyright lawsuit alleged the words to "Warm Kitty" were written by Edith Newlin, however the lawsuit was dismissed, because the court found that the plaintiffs failed to show they had a valid claim.[2][3][4][5] “They have failed to establish that they own a valid copyright as necessary to state a copyright infringement claim.” [5]
In The Big Bang Theory, the song is described by Sheldon as a song sung by his mother when he is ill. The lyrics on The Big Bang Theory are: "Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur! Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr purr purr!" A scene in an episode of Young Sheldon, the prequel series to The Big Bang Theory, depicts the origin of the song. This aired on February 1, 2018, and shows Sheldon's mother Mary singing the song to her son, who is suffering with the flu.[6]
Versions of the song have been released by Australian children's performer Patsy Biscoe,[7] and by the long-running ABC children's program Play School[8]—a recording sung by Philip Quast and Barbara Frawley was released on the show's 1993 album The Best of Play School,[7][9] which predates The Big Bang Theory and has the lyrics reversed, instead going: "Warm kitty, soft kitty, little ball of fur. Sleepy kitty, happy kitty, purr purr purr."[citation needed] The song remains part of Play School's catalog of children's songs regularly performed[7] on the program: the show's presenters occasionally perform the song for their young viewers.

"Jesus Loves Me" is a Christian hymn written by Anna Bartlett Warner. The lyrics first appeared as a poem in the context of an 1860 novel called Say and Seal, written by her older sister Susan Warner, in which the words were spoken as a comforting poem to a dying child. The tune was added in 1862 by William Batchelder Bradbury

"O #Tannenbaum" (German: [oː ˈtanənbaʊm]; "O fir tree", English: "O #ChristmasTree") is a German #ChristmasSong. Based on a traditional #folksong, it became associated with the traditional Christmas tree by the early 20th century and sung as a Christmas carol. Read more about this song on #wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Tannenbaum
Tune Basics is the popular music #education series created by #NewZealand based #musician/content creator Kerin Gedge. It is designed to teach anybody who wants to learn the fundamentals or very basics of how to play #MusicalInstruments which includes #DiatonicHarmonica, #TremoloHarmonica with 24 holes, Tremolo #Harmonica with 16 holes, Tremolo Harmonica with 20 holes, #ChromaticHarmonica, kalimba with ten keys, recorder and #PennyWhistle (also known as #TinWhistle).
The aim of Tune Basics is to acquaint the student with clear graphic based #instructions for how to play simple and recognisable songs. Tune Basics will typically avoid delving too deeply into technique or musical styles but will, where possible, provide the pupil with relevant links to professional musicians who can take the learner deeper when they are ready to move on from basic #lessons.
Generally speaking Tune Basics will focus more on popular songs that are in the #PublicDomain. This is to protect the channel, Kerin Gedge, from any complications that may arise due to copyright claims. But it also aids the musical student with the belief that most popular public domain songs are already deeply embedded in the player’s subconscious, which lends itself to the learning experience. For example tunes like #TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar, #HappyBirthday or even #ChristmasSongs like #SilentNight or #JingleBells are so entrenched in modern western minds that learning the songs is “easy” because you’re already half way there!
Although on occasion #KerinGedge will provide a lesson on a modern popular song without monetising the video. Examples include #TheCoffinDanceMeme which became very popular during 2020, #BillyJoel’s #PianoMan or #Snufkin the harmonica playing wanderer from the #Moomin series.
#TuneBasics also provides #HarmonicaTabs #TinWhistleTabs /#PennyWhistleTabs and #KalimbaTabs on the Tune Basics blog, link provided above. Please be sure to browse our #TABS list as often we will provide TABS that are yet to be animated into #Tutorials. In other words you may find TABS for songs that aren’t available on the channel.

This tutorial is for a Tremolo Harmonica with 20 Holes
TuneBasics believes that ANYONE can learn to play. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what your musical background is. If you can follow the simple instructions provided in these videos then you’re well on your way to becoming a musician. But don’t expect to “get it” right away. Practice will always make perfect. Sometimes you may need to watch these tutorials a few times to get the hang of it. Most songs on Tune Basics are broken up into simple manageable phrases so learn one phrase at a time! Pause, practice and then continue. And when you’re ready to move onto more complicated lessons check out #LiamWar at #learntheharmonica.com or #TomlinLecki at #tomlinharmonicalessons.com.

"#DrunkenSailor" is a #SeaShanty, also known as "What Shall We Do with a/the Drunken Sailor?"
The #shanty was sung to accompany certain work tasks aboard #SailingShips, especially those that required a bright walking pace. It is believed to originate in the early 19th century or before, during a period when ships' crews, especially those of military vessels, were large enough to permit hauling a rope whilst simply marching along the deck. With the advent of merchant packet and clipper ships and their smaller crews, which required different working methods, use of the shanty appears to have declined or shifted to other, minor tasks.
"Drunken Sailor" was revived as a popular song among non-sailors in the 20th century, and grew to become one of the best-known songs of the shanty repertoire among mainstream audiences. It has been performed and recorded by many musical artists and appeared in many popular media.
Although the song's lyrics vary, they usually contain some variant of the question, "What shall we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?" In some styles of performance, each successive verse suggests a method of sobering or punishing the drunken sailor. In other styles, further questions are asked and answered about different people.
The song is No. 322 in the #RoudFolkSong Index. For more details see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_Sailor

#StreetsOfLaredo also known as the #CowboysLament, is a famous American #cowboy ballad in which a dying cowboy tells his story to another cowboy. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.
Derived from the traditional folk song "The #UnfortunateRake", the song has become a folk music standard, and as such has been performed, recorded and adapted numerous times, with many variations. The title refers to the city of Laredo, Texas.

In today’s tale we’ll be visiting the strange occurrences of a supernatural nature that have occurred in the 110-year-old St James Theatre in Wellington, New Zealand.
I like sharing the tales of ghosts that are common to my own country because we are a young nation in the greater scheme of Western civilization. So often it is a given that we associate hauntings with centuries old castles and other ancient buildings; the edifices of whatever society left them to be occupied by generations of human interaction, whilst here in New Zealand the oldest European building is The Mission House at Kerikeri, built only in 1822. Even New Zealand’s indigenous people, the Maori, made these lands their home as early as the 1250s, a time when England’s Windsor Castle was already close to 300 years old! And yet my country maintains its own rich traditions of hauntings and happenings of the bizarre, proving that the age of a thing is not necessarily a prerequisite for ghostly appearances…
Located in New Zealand’s capital, and home of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the St James Theatre has been described as the jewel in the crown of Wellington's flourishing theatre scene… and yet, while it has staged countless performances over the past century for the delight of many an audience, behind the scenes a different type of performance has unfolded, acted out by the unusual and unseen....

Plato the Potato
Check out my Instruments on #Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/shop/keringedge (paid link)
Here's a quirky song I wrote for my kids a while back...
The Lyrics are
I had a friend called Plato
Who although was a potato
He was my favourite mate O
Till the day he met his fate O
He went down to the store so
He could buy a fresh tomato
Which was his worst mistake O
For a chef known as Alfredo
Had gone down to the store so
He could be a fresh potato
And when he saw old Plato
He said "Great a free potato!"
And so he took poor Plato
Down to his restaurant-o
And that's how my late mate O
Soon became a baked Potato
As for me I am afraid O
At that time that I did not know
What had happened to poor Plato
So I went out to Alfredo's
Which was my worst mistake O
For I order baked potato
And that's how my mate Plato
Ended up upon my plate O!
So if you're friends with a potato
Don't make the same mistake O
For the thing about potatoes
Is when baked they taste so great O!
I hope to make more quirky songs like this in the near future so stay tuned!
In the meantime

#OhMyDarlingClementine is an #American #western #folk ballad in trochaic meter usually credited to #PercyMontrose (1884), although it is sometimes credited to Barker Bradford. The song is believed to have been based on another song called "Down by the River Liv'd a Maiden" by H. S. Thompson (1863). It is commonly performed in the key of F Major. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. - Find out more on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_My_Darling,_Clementine
"God Defend New Zealand" was written as a poem in the 1870s by Irish-born, Victorian-raised immigrant Thomas Bracken of Dunedin.[3] A competition to compose music for the poem was held in 1876 by The Saturday Advertiser and judged by three prominent Melbourne musicians, with a prize of ten guineas.[4] The winner of the competition was the Vandemonian-born John Joseph Woods of Lawrence, Otago, who composed the melody in a single sitting the evening after finding out about the competition.[5] The song was first performed at the Queen's Theatre, Princes Street in Dunedin, on Christmas Day, 1876.[4] In February 1878, sheet music was published.[6]
A Māori version of the song was produced in 1878 by Thomas Henry Smith of Auckland, a judge in the Native Land Court, on request of Premier George Edward Grey.[4] A copy of the Māori lyrics, using Aotearoa for its title, was printed in Otago newspapers in October 1878.[6] In Smith's original text the word "whakarangona" was used to translate 'hear', rather than the modern "whakarongona".[7]
In 1897, Premier Richard Seddon presented a copy of words and music to Queen Victoria.[4] The song became increasingly popular during the early 20th century, and in 1940 the New Zealand government bought the copyright and made it New Zealand's 'national hymn' in time for that year's centennial celebrations.[6] It was used at the British Empire Games from 1950 onwards, and first used at the Olympics during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.[note 1] Following the performance at the Munich games, a campaign began to have the song adopted as the national anthem.[9]
"God Save the Queen" was New Zealand's sole national anthem until the 1970s.[9] In May 1973 a remit to change the New Zealand flag, declare a New Zealand republic and change the national anthem was voted down by the Labour Party at their national conference.[10] In 1976 Garth Henry Latta from Dunedin presented a petition to Parliament asking "God Defend New Zealand" to be made the national anthem. With the permission of Queen Elizabeth II, it was gazetted as the country's second national anthem on 21 November 1977, on equal standing with "God Save the Queen".[11]
An alternative official arrangement for massed singing by Maxwell Fernie was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Allan Highet on 31 May 1979.[12] Woods' original score was written in the key of A-flat major (concert pitch) and was better suited for solo and choral singing; Fernie's arrangement changed the key down a semitone to G major.
Until the 1990s, only the first verse of the English version was commonly sung. The first public singing of the anthem in both Maori and English was by singers Vicky Lee and Cyndi Joe at the Kiwis-Britain league test in 1992.[13] A public debate emerged after only the first Māori verse was sung by Hinewehi Mohi at the 1999 Rugby World Cup match between the All Blacks and England, and it then became conventional to sing both the Māori and English first verses one after the other.

Happy Birthday to You", also known as "Happy Birthday", is a song traditionally sung to celebrate a person's birthday. According to the 1998 Guinness World Records, it is the most recognized song in the English language, followed by "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". The song's base lyrics have been translated into at least 18 languages.[1] The melody of "Happy Birthday to You" comes from the song "Good Morning to All",[2] which has traditionally been attributed to American sisters Patty and Mildred J. Hill in 1893,[3][4] although the claim that the sisters composed the tune is disputed.[5]
The song is in the public domain in the United States and the European Union. Warner Chappell Music had previously claimed copyright on the song in the US and collected licensing fees for its use; in 2015 the copyright claim was declared invalid and Warner Chappell agreed to pay back $14 million in licensing fees. #NearerMyGodToThee" is a 19th-century Christian #hymn by #SarahFlowerAdams, which retells the story of #JacobsDream. #Genesis 28:11–12
The hymn is well known, among other uses, as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank.

In Memory of my Guinea Pigs Marshmallow and Whats-yer-face
Check out my Instruments on #Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/shop/keringedge (paid link)
And now for something completely different.
Here's a silly (and hopefully funny) song about two of my favourite pet guinea pigs who met their untimely demise last year when a local stray cat wondered onto our property.
I wrote this song to cheer myself up. I hope you enjoy it.
Please note, no guinea pigs were harmed during the making of this video. I've tried to make this video appropriate for all ages, so please forgive me if I've failed.
For those of you waiting for more harmonica tutorials - stay tuned there are heaps more coming soon!
Now, here are the Lyrics:
I had a little guinea pig
In fact I had 11
Now I only have 9 left
2 of them went to heaven
Wish that I could say that they
Walked there but instead
They took a shortcut through a cat
And now they are quite dead
Chorus One
Marshmallow O Marshmallow
I hope you've ended up where all good guinea pigs go
Instead of on that barbecue way down below
I like to think you're snacking on a holy meadow.
Someone left the cage open
What idiot did that?
Oh that's right, it was my fault
Your exit was a cat
I wish that I could find a way
To make it up to you
But I have a feeling
Just saying sorry won't do!
Chorus Two
Whatsyerface of Whatsyerface
You're the little guinea I could never replace
I'm sorry that bad kitty had himself a taste
And now you're up in heaven only with half a face.
Hope that you don't mind but
I put what was left of you
Underneath my plum tree
And my cabbage patch too!
Knowing that this world was something
You'll no longer see
But next time that I eat a plum
You'll see it through me!
Repeat both chorus'
Now IF this song goes to trending, I'll make a tutorial for it, but that's entirely up to you lot!

#GodDefendNewZealand (Māori: "#Aotearoa", lit. 'New Zealand') is one of two #NationalAnthems of #NewZealand, the other being "#GodSavetheQueen". Legally the two have equal status, but "God Defend New Zealand" is more commonly used. Originally written as a poem, it was set to music as part of a competition in #1876. Over the years its popularity increased, and it was eventually named the second national anthem in 1977. It has #English and #Māori lyrics, with slightly different meanings. Since the late 1990s, the usual practice when performed in public is to perform the first verse of the national anthem twice, first in Māori and then in English.
