Genesis 12:10-13:18 Bible Study - Abram's Sister???
This week we cover Genesis 12:10-13:18 looking first at Abram’s trip down to Egypt in which an odd thing happens, to protect his life Abram tells his wife Sarai to tell everyone that she is his sister (rather than his wife). This odd practice is also repeated by Abraham in Gen 20:1-18 and then by his son Isaac in regard to his wife Rebekah in Gen 26:1-11.
Dave spends the majority of the time discussing what we know of this practice and what we can learn from it today. Dave finished this week’s teaching by going through the historical events outlined in chapter 13.

Genesis 14 Bible Study - Who is Melchizedek?
Who are all the kings mentioned in the start of chapter 14 and what do they have to do with anything? Also who is this priest of God Most High, Melchizedek? Is this a “Christophany” a pre-incarnate sighting of Jesus Christ in the book of Genesis?

Genesis 15 Bible Study - The Abrahamic Covenant and God’s timing.
This week we look at Genesis 15 in which we see the “cutting of covenant” the formal covenant ceremony between God and Abram. We also cover the significance of a very important verse: “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited to him as righteousness.” (Gen 15:6). We look at the implications of Gen 15:6 as it is spelled out in the New Testament. Also covered is the geographical area of the promised land, spelled out by God in Gen 15:18-21. As well as; Eliezer of Damascus, Abram’s first conversation with God, Righteousness, Children of Abraham, the sin of the Amorites (and Canaanites). As well as God symbolized by fire! Lots to cover!

This week we look at Abram/Abraham, as an amazing man of faith in the bible. We cover only the first 9 verses of chapter 12, but in them, we will look more closely at the Abrahamic Covenant; God’s promise to Abraham and to his descendants, the Jews.

Genesis 10 & 11 Bible Study - Table of Nations & Tower of Babel
This week we cover the genealogy from Noah to Abraham, in the midst of that we also have the story of the Tower of Babel.
Genesis 10 & 11 shows us the spreading of all the nations from Noah’s three sons to the ends of the earth. The story of the Tower of Babel, gives us the reason why God confused their language and differentiated their cultures.

Genesis 9 Bible Study - Carnivores, Covenants, Rainbows, & a Drunk Noah
This week we look at life after the flood. God reaffirms his call for mankind to be stewards of the earth. God puts meat on the menu, yes, we were all vegetarians before the flood! Dave also looks at God's first covenant with humanity, the Noahic covenant. Finally, we look at a strange incident involving a drunk Noah and his sons.

Genesis 6-8 Bible Study - NOAH'S ARK & THE FLOOD
(CORRECTION: Dave says that a Cubit is the distance from the INSIDE of your elbow to your wrest; the correct definition is the distance from the point of your elbow to the tip of your longest finger. The length of 20.4 is the standard "Hebrew Long" cubit that is used to calculate the size of the ark.)
This week we cover Genesis 6:09-8:22 as we look at the account of Noah, the Ark and the Global Flood. We look closely at what we know about the Ark as a 510-foot wooden boat made to house roughly 7,000 of God's creations. What do we know about Noah, the man said to walk faithfully with God? We also ask, how could one boat house all the animals in the world? Lots to look at in this Sunday school story that actually happened.
Note: The images in this video are taken from Answers in Genesis, the Ark Encounter which we talk about in the full video. Watch the full video for details on this amazing life-size replica of Noah's Ark!
Questions to consider:
- What did Noah tell his friends and family while he was building the ark?
- How do you think they responded?
- How did Noah feel, knowing that God was going to save his wife, his three sons and their wives, but everyone else was going to die in the flood?

Genesis 4 Bible Study - Cain, Abel, Jealousy and Murder!
-Why did God "look with favor" on Abel's offering and not Cain's?
-Why, if God is God, did he ask Cain, "Where is your brother?"
-Cain, after killing Abel feared that others would kill him, who else was on the earth that he feared?
-What is the mark that God puts on Cain?
-Who was Cain's Wife?
-Who was Seth's Wife?
-What is the meaning of Lamech's statement at the end of chapter 4?
-Finally, what is the meaning of the final verse in chapter 4, "At this time people began to call on the name of the Lord."
Dave looks at all of these questions in this week's talk on Genesis 4.
Final discussion questions to ponder:
In Gen 4:9 we see God ask Cain “Where is your Brother?” In Gen 3:9 - God asks Adam “where are you?” - What was the purpose of this questioning? Have you been similarly questioned by the Holy Spirit? How and Why?

Genesis 2 Bible Study - Creation, Eden, Marriage & Sex!
This week Dave walks through Genesis Chapter 2, in which we see a continuation of the creation story. Included in conversation this week is the beauty of how God created, accented by Dave actually reading the creation story told in C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia. Dave also hits on the Hebrew meaning for various different elements in chapter 2 including this idea of the Breath of Life, Eden, the Garden and the “suitable helper” God created for Adam. The rest of the time Dave spends opening up what the Bible has to say about Christian marriage and Sex (within and without that context). Lots to discuss!

Romans 15:14-16:27, Paul Makes Plans & Sends His Greetings. A Bible Study.
In this final study of the book of Romans, we see Paul lay out his plans to visit Jerusalem then start on his fourth missionary journey making his way to Spain, stopping in Rome along the way. As is often the case, Paul's plans do not come to fruition as he has planned. Paul concludes his letter to the Romans with some personal greetings to his friends and fellow workers awaiting him in Rome.

Romans 14:01-15:13, Is Alcohol outlawed by the Bible? What about Pork? A Bible Study.
This week we look at Romans Chapter 14 as well as the first 13 verses of chapter 15 in which Paul calls the believers in his day (as well as us today) to not hold too critical people's choices as to when they celebrate the sabbath, whether they eat kosher or whether they do or do not drink alcohol. We are called to love each other and allow our fellow believers to do what they think is best, as they feel led by God. We have freedom in Christ, but Paul warns us to be careful never to do anything that might cause our fellow believers to stumble.

Romans 13 - Putin, Hitler, Nero & Antichrist, all in places of "Authority." A Bible Study.
Where you are in the Bible, is where you are in life. This week, in our continuing study of the book of Romans we look at chapter 13 in which the apostle Paul talks about what we, as Christians, are called to do in regard to those in places of "Authority" (Exousia). In Paul's day, it was the emperor Nero, in our day we have such world figures as Hitler, and now Putin. What are we as Christians called to do? Is Putin the Antichrist? Many thought it was Hitler (and in Paul's day, they thought it was Nero). In this video, we look at all of this, as well as the true signs to look for to identify the Antichrist (spoiler alert, it is not Putin)!

Romans 12 - We are the Body. Spiritual Gifts. A Bible Study
This week we get into a new section of Paul's letter to the Roman Church. Chapters 1-11 have outlined Paul's theological perspectives, now Paul looks at how we ought to live in light of that information? In light of the mercy that Christ has shown us, we ought to focus on the service of others within the body. We look at each element of that.
Discussion Questions:
1) In what ways are you conforming to the pattern of the world?
2) How can you renew your mind, what does that look like?
3) Are you part of a body of believers? Why/why not?
4) What could you be doing as a “living sacrifice” for others within the body?
5) Who do you want revenge on? What would it look like to follow Paul’s wisdom in Romans 12:19-21? What could that lead to?

Romans 11 - God is not Done with Israel. A Bible Study.
This week we see Paul wrap up chapters 9, 10, and 11 in his discussion of what to do regarding the Jews. We see two illustrations laid out, that of the Remnant and that of the wild olive branch (the church) being grafted into the cultivated olive tree (Israel). Paul speaks of the "fullness of the Gentiles" which leads to a quick touching on the end times. God is not done with the Jews, nor is He done with you.

Romans 09 - Is God Done with the Jews? We are the clay, He is the potter. A Bible Study
This week we look at Romans Chapter 9 in which Paul starts a three-chapter look at Isreal and what the Expositors Commentary calls, "The problem of Israel: God's Righteousness Vindicated." In this study, we look at Paul's explanation of the sovereignty of God with examples from Jacob and Esau (among others). God is the potter and can make from us whatever he likes. Ultimately the question is, are you moldable clay, or hard as a rock?

Romans 08 - Nothing can separate us from the Love of God. A Bible Study
Romans chapter 8 has some of the most quoted verses in the Bible:
v1, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
v28, “in all things God works for the good of those who love him..."
v31, “if God is for us, who can be against us?”
vv38-39, “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the Love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This week, in Chapter 8, we look at what Condemnation is and why we are no longer bound by that. We do take a slight tangent, with v1, looking at Textual Criticism and how we can be sure of the text we have today. Additionally covered is God as our Abba Father, as well as our being heirs to the kingdom of God, as well as predestination, God's calling, and the un-yeilding love of God.
Discussion Questions:
1. What is the difference between Condemnation & Conviction?
2. How is the believer to deal with either in their life?
3. If God predestined you to be saved, did you have a choice?

The Bible teaches that people are justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and YET will also be judged according to their works. Is this a contradiction in the bible? An intolerable impasse?

Romans 03:09-31 - All are broken, but now... A Bible Study.
In this week's study, we look at Romans chapter 3 vs 9-31. Subjects Dave covers include: What is the point of the Mosaic Law? What role does the Law play (for the Jew in Paul's day and for the believer today)? What is Covenant Monism? How do Jesus' sacrifice and atonement contrast the bleak backdrop Paul has established over the last few chapters?

Romans 06 - Slave to sin or Instrument of Righteousness? A Bible Study.
This week we look at Romans chapter 6. Within this chapter, we cover and define SIN, Antinomianism, and Baptism (John's Baptism vs Jesus' Baptism). Additionally, we cover the definition of a Dolous, Bond Slave and compare the Old Testament perspective on a slave by choice to a slave by bondage. We also look at the courtroom of heaven, and the Great White Throne Judgment.
Everything comes back to this question: having been born again through Jesus, no longer a slave to sin and its bondage... how can we still remain in our bondage to sin. Will we be a slave to sin or will we accept the freedom and be an instrument of righteousness? Lots to discuss this week!

Homework:
Watch and listen to this amazing song from North Point Worship, "Death Was Arrested."
Music Video:
https://youtu.be/AwgWbIOt0ko
Lyrics:
Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin
Lost without hope with no place to begin
Your love Made a way to let mercy come in
When death was arrested and my life began
Ash was redeemed only beauty remains
My orphan heart was given a name
My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance
When death was arrested and my life began
Oh, Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It's your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You
Released from my chains I'm a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He cancelled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began
Oh, Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It's your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You
Our savior displayed on a criminal's cross
Darkness rejoiced as though heaven had lost
But then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand
That's when death was arrested and my life began
Oh, Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It's your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You
Oh, we're free, free
Forever we're free
Come join the song
Of all the redeemed
Yes, we're free free
Forever amen
When death was arrested and my life began
Oh, we're free, free
Forever we're free
Come join the song
Of all the redeemed
Yes, we're free free
Forever amen
When death was arrested and my life began
When death was arrested and my life began
When death was arrested and my life began
