It's not magic, but it does work! To clarify right away, this won't make VAST changes to your waistline. Diet and exercise for losing fat will do the most for that.
However, it's a useful exercise to know that may add some strength and definition to your core.

Also, I was taught this exercise a while ago and figured it was pretty simple. After looking it up a bit, I realized the way I was taught was different from the conventional method. Or I got it messed up. Not sure. Wouldn't be the first time either way. I'll try to be more careful in the future so you all get the most accurate information!

This is how I overcame my depression
Hey friends! This video idea came out of the blue for me. It took a while, but I wanted to share it.
I wanted to talk about my experience with depression and how I overcame it.
I'd love to hear your own stories in the comments section.
Because mental health is such a personal issue, I know many people feel strongly about it.
It's not my intention to make anyone angry. I'm not saying this will work for everybody. I'm not saying all depression is curable.
But this IS what definitively worked for me. I not only managed my symptoms, but I decidedly overcame depression and changed my life. I've since been very resilient to it.
I talk in the video about 3 things I did:
1.) ACKNOWLEDGED my depression but did not accept it as part of my core identity.
2.) Took ACCOUNTABILITY for things I PERSONALLY did to cause my current mental state.
I resolved issues and accepted blame for things that were my fault.
At the same time, I freed myself of guilt from things that were NOT my fault.
I forgave people that had wronged me, even if only for my own inner peace.
I actively identified fears and insecurities that wrongfully controlled my behavior.
3.) I focused on giving to OTHERS.
The last one is perhaps the most controversial, but it was a MAJOR game-changer for me.
Focusing on giving, loving, and helping others has radically improved my mental health.
I discovered that the days I felt the worst were the days where I was focused on MYSELF... even for justifiable reasons.
Reframing my worries and concerns into how I can benefit others leads to similar actions, but a better mental process for me.
Learning to want the best for others has been an extremely empowering mindset.

You CAN Do Clutch Flags, My Friend!

This fun exercise is great for training your core, sides of your body, and total body control!
It's also a neat trick to show at parties.
Special shout out to Paul Wade for teaching this exercise to me and many others.
While it's not necessarily easy (depending on how fit you are), it IS easier than it might look with the right progressions and technique!
It does require decent strength before starting though.
I recommend being able to do at least:
-25 Pushups
-9 Pullups
-15 Hanging Leg Raises
If you can't do these, will you be able to begin training for the clutch flag?
I don't know. Maybe. BUT I think you'll make faster and better progress working on building those exercises up first than you would with training the clutch flag.
Don't worry. These exercises will still be here for you to learn when you're ready! Gravity isn't going anywhere.
The progressions I show in this video are:
1.) The Grip
2.) Single-Leg Diagonal Flag
3.) Bent-Knee Diagonal Flag
4.) Diagonal Flag
5.) Tuck Clutch Flag
6.) Single-Leg Clutch Flag
7.) Bent-Knee Clutch Flag
8.) Clutch Flag
Work each stage until you can hold it for 9 SOLID seconds on BOTH sides of your body. On steps 6-8, you be able to get away with building up to 6 seconds or something. In my opinion, just buckle down and build up the extra 3 seconds. It'll improve your later progressions as well.
Train 2-3 non-consecutive days in a row. During training, do 5-6 sets with a few minutes break in between the sets.

What is the Best Workout Plan?
Hey friends! It occurred to me earlier today that a lot of people ask me this question and it may help if I made a video addressing it.
Here's a copy paste from the tl;dr section at the beginning:
The best workout schedule for you is the one you can do consistently long-term while still making progress. Beyond this, there are other factors such as your goals, lifestyle, and recovery ability.
For consistency, I recommend keeping a “core” part of your routine—a workout
that you can do in 10-15 minutes a few times a week. When you feel like doing more, you can supplement your workout with related exercises. Make sure your core allows room for growth as you get stronger.
You can do train an exercise once a week and still make progress. Perhaps even less, depending on the individual and the exercise. Experiment with volume to see what works best for you.

How to Do More Pullups
Hey friends! After I made the video on doing more pushups, people asked a very natural follow-up question
"How do I do more pullups? Does this also work on pullups?"
The answer is yes. Kind of.
Pullups are a different, inherently more difficult exercise than pushups. The principles remain the same but the numbers are different.
Like with pushups, the best way to increase your number depends on your current fitness level. Wherever you're at, there's a way for you to improve!

How many pullups can you do? Follow the information below.
1.) 0-3: Work on PREPARING yourself for pullups. This can be done by doing easier variations. For pullups, this means horizontal pullups and jackknife pullups. You can do these on a stable table or railing. Having gymnastic rings makes it easy. You can buy these online or make your own (DIY tutorial on channel). Remember that just because you can do a pullup doesn't necessarily mean it's the best way for you to practice them. Take your time on the easier variations and you may improve faster! The easier variations also work to increase your strength and athleticism, so don't feel like they're a waste of time.
2.) 3-15: Work on developing your pullup STRENGTH. During this stage, you'll tend to build hefty chunks of strength and muscle. Your grip also gets much stronger. Enjoy this stage! Practice these 1-2 a week for 2-3 sets. Be safe, but push yourself HARD. Leave yourself plenty of rest time as you'll get stronger and more muscular during this stage. We grow when we rest, not when we train. So rest.
When you can do 8-9 repetitions with good form, you can explore "neurological training" of pullups. In essence, you can "practice" pullups without getting tired by doing many sets with low reps. For example, you can install a pullup bar in your doorway and do 1 or 2 every hour or every other hour while still "staying fresh."

ONE THING I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED DURING THE VIDEO is that this method doesn't exhaust your muscles and your muscle growth will not be nearly as fast as it would be with the hard sets. This is mostly for strength.
3.) 15+: During this stage, you'll likely be very comfortable with pullups. You'll heal quickly from them, so you can train them every day or every other day. Like with pushups, your sleep and diet will have a large impact on the number of pullups you can do on any given day.
You may find it more worthwhile to instead train weighted pullups or harder pullup variations (like working towards the one-arm pullup). If you train this way, you'll still increase the number of regular pullups you can do while building strength and muscle. Throw in a set of regular pullups every once in a while to remind your body of the movement.
However, the inverse is not true. Simply increasing the number of regular pullups that you can do will almost certainly not make you strong enough for a one-arm pullup even if you can do over 50.
Different training methods have different benefits, so find one that suits your goals and use that. You can always change it, so don't fret.

Ultimately, I think building strength throughout our full range of motion is one of the best things we can do for joints, including our wrists. Learning to gently load our wrists from the wall can help, as well as using easier pushup variations!

Bent Knee Dips - 3 Sets of 30
Bench Dips - 2 Sets of 25
Elevated Bench Dips - 2 Sets of 20
Elevated Parallel Dips - 2 Sets of 20
Assisted Parallel Dips - 2 Sets of 25
Parallel Dips
Here's how to progress:
1.) Find a variation you can do competently and safely. When in doubt, start with the first one (bent knee dips).
2.) Work these hard 1-2x a week for 2-3 sets. For each set, do as many as you can OR until you hit the number in the goals. For example, if you're doing Bent Knee Dips, it might look like: 30 30 17. Or 30 25.
3.) When you can hit the goals, move on to the next step and repeat!

Question: can you all tell me if the clip about the lats is too bright and may trigger any problems for people with light sensitivity? I didn't notice it while editing but now I'm wondering if I should change it.

How to Do More Pushups
Hey everyone! This video is just to address a very common question I get:
"How do I do more pushups?"
Whether for personal reasons or to pass a fitness test, lots of people want to increase their pushup numbers!
Well, it depends on what level of fitness and strength you're currently at. You can kind of see this based on the number of pushups you can currently do:
1.) 0-5: Work on PREPARING yourself for pushups. This can be done by doing easier variation of pushups, like kneeling pushups or incline pushups. Remember that just because you can do a pushup doesn't necessarily mean it's the best way for you to practice them. Take your time on the easier variations and you may improve faster!
2.) 5-25: Work on developing your pushup STRENGTH. This is probably the stage where pushups will help you the most. Practice these 1-2 a week for 2-3 sets. Be safe, but push yourself HARD. Leave yourself plenty of rest time as you'll get stronger and more muscular during this stage. We grow when we rest, not when we train. So rest.
3.) 25-100+: During this stage, most would consider pushups to be an ENDURANCE exercise. Pushups won't necessarily be doing as much for your strength and muscle. You'll need more resistance for that. For more info on why this is, look up "Henneman's Size Principle." We need to work our larger muscle fibers with increasing resistance! If they don't activate, they aren't worked. You'll notice that you'll recover from your pushups a lot faster at this point. You can start training them 5-6 times a week for several sets. Proper breathing, technique, diet, and rest will have a large impact on your numbers.

The Fastest Way to Lose Weight is Amputation but Don't Do That

It's not meant to anger anyone or try to be clickbait. It's just to try to encourage people to think about their long-term results and not focus on sacrificing health for speed.
By the way, if "eat less" is not working for you, my favorite way to lose FAT is to just put on some extra muscle. Growing the large muscles of the body with squats, deadlifts, and pullups really increases the energy demands of the body, which can put you in a caloric deficit even if your diet remains the same. I've found it can make a big difference.

Thoughts on Reducing Stress and Anxiety

This is a video topic I've thought about for a few weeks now. I considered how I face and overcome my own stress. As usual, I don't profess to be an expert on this. People have asked for my thoughts on this topic, and I'm sharing this in the hopes that some people can learn from my experience and mistakes.
I discovered that most of my stress came from doubt and uncertainty. As we try new things—which we SHOULD do sometimes!—we're bound to face this.
An important factor I could have emphasized more in the video is the importance of introspection. Discovering what is causing our stress and mitigating the causes will bring us peace in the long run. Ignoring our stress can sometimes make it worse.
My philosophy on stress management comes down to 3 things:
1.) Accept that some things are out of our control and plan accordingly. Our doubt and uncertainty is almost always paired with a fear of failure. Sometimes the results we want are not the ones that happen. Rather not ignoring this possibility, allow yourself to know that it may happen and ask yourself what you will do if it does. For example, some students face stress in exam season. Nobody wants to fail their finals, but what happens if they do? After the initial onset of panic from this thought, I think our minds start to realize that it's NOT the end of the world. Acceptance of a bad outcome prepares us to adapt and overcome if it becomes reality.
2.) Adopt the things that ARE in our control into a routine. Rather than relying on bursts of motivation, translate your goals into a PROCESS. If you're stressed about your personal fitness, find a routine you can do a few times a week. The example I use in the video is about brushing teeth. Most times, we don't feel inspired to brush our teeth. If we only brushed our teeth when we're motivated, most of us would probably have poor dental health. Keep this process realistic. If you're new to fitness, don't suddenly try to exercise 2-3 hours a day. Keep a CORE to your routine that you can do no matter how busy or tired you get. Commit to the core and then do more when you're able to. Having this realistic process gives us solace because we know we're taking steps towards our goals.
3.) There are times when you may get misidentify if something is in or out of your control. Remember to be forgiving to yourself about these mistakes, and they are part of our learning process.
