If you want to have sixpack and strong core like gymnasts have, you can’t make a mistake by training as they do.
Of course unfortunately the sixpack doesn’t depend only on your training, there are several important factors to achieve it, but this is for another video.
But one thing is for sure: you definitely need to train your abs and all around core, since core stability has an important role in your everyday life, not to mention your workouts.
I don’t think that I need to explain this.

How gymnasts train with dumbbells?
Wait, do gymnasts train with weights at all?
Of course they do.
Gymnasts use weights as well, however not necessarily the same way as weight lifters or body builders, but they do use weights.
And in this video, we’re going to take a look how, focusing on the dumbbell exercises.
First of all, let’s clarify: in gymnastics, weight training is not primary.
It’s obvious that gymnastics is all about bodyweight strength.
As i’ve mentioned in my previous video, gymnasts don’t aim to build more muscle than what is needed. They don’t need any extra muscle and bodyweight since that would make their routines harder.
This is why you’ll never see a gymnast to do deadlift or squat with heavy weights, they won’t have thick legs either, it’s time to accept this and get over it.
Since in this sport is all about relative strength, they only need the muscle mass that they can move easliy and do their routines the most optimal way.
The principle of specificity also applies here: if you want to train and develop bodyweight exercises and skill as effectively as possible, you need to do specific progressions with your bodyweight.
However, this doesn’t mean that there is no place for weight training in gymnastics.

The secret of the huge gymnast biceps is the straight arm exercises.
Particularly rings specialist gymnasts have really big biceps, however you don’t see them to bend their arms during their routines.
Even if they do bent arm exercises during their strength training, the straight arm exercises bring the most gains for the huge biceps, not to mention the other muscles.
And one thing is for sure: gymnasts spend most of their time perfecting their routines, and strengthening specifically for that - as I mentioned, mostly with straight arm exercises.
The bent arm strengthening exercises have a supplementary role since they don’t do such movement during their routines.
By the way, this specificity is important because a professional gymnast doesn’t aim to build more muscle than what is needed, as the extra pounds only make the routines harder.
Therefore, they have no interest in unnecessary pumping and muscle building. We could say that every muscle you see comes from the characteristic of the sport itself.
For them, not the aesthetics of their physique which is important but the aesthetic of the routines they do, and they build their bodies to perform those the best way possible.
Then how is it possible that some gymnasts look like body builders?
Well, as I’ve mentioned you can notice the best physique by rings specialists or all around gymnasts.
And if something the gymnastics rings routine requires a decent amount of muscle.
So if a gymnast has something to do with gymnastics rings and he’s not another event specialist like pommel horse or high bars etc. Then he’ll have muscles for sure.
Also don’t forget that genetics play a key role as well, that’s why you’ll see gymnats to do the same insane skills but one is more muscular than the other.
However, whatever your genetics is, if you want to get the most out of your biceps, you should take over the development of straight arm strength from gymnasts, because as you can see, this is a really effective way to build muscle.
Not only in terms of biceps, I only highlighted this because it is most spectacular, this muscle plays a key role in the straight arm exercises, but in addition, the entire upper body is involved in the load, depending on what exercise it is.

How gymnasts have such huge biceps?
In this video I’ll tell you the secret of the insane gymnast biceps, highlighting the most important information that I bet many don’t even use.
So if you want to have bigger biceps and want to get the most out of your training, stay with me and let’s get right into it!
If we talk about biceps training everybody’s thinking about the good old biceps curls with bars, dumbbells or cables.
You can improve your biceps with those exercises for sure, but surprisingly gymnasts almost never do those and they still have huge bicepses.
But how?
To put it simple, the insane gymnast biceps comes from the charachteristic of their sport and the complexity of their strength training.
In general we can say that they do many type of exercises and yes, their strength training covers many pull-up variations for example.
This is not surprising, how else would you do strength training in a sport where you need to be able to move and dominate your whole bodyweight easily if not with compound exercises such as the pull-ups and chin ups.
They do a whole variety of pulling exercises: inverted rows, pull-ups, chin-ups, muscle ups etc. And other complex pulling exercises such as the ice cream maker or buttermaker.
The brachialis and biceps play a key role in all these exercises and even if it’s a surprise for many, this is enough to build decent bicepses - isolations are not absolutely necessary.
As I said before, many people use only isolations when it comes to biceps training and neglect the compound exercises such as the chin-ups which work the bicepses like no other exercise if done properly.
Besides all these exercises I’d like to highlight a really important one which is the king of bent-arm strength when it comes to gymnast biceps training, and this is rope climbing.
That’s an absolute must if you want to build big arms and I already made a video on how to master it step by step along with all the exercises I’ve mentioned so check them out after this one, but don’t go anywhere because here comes the point:

You believe it or not, you can achieve all these with one exercise that I bet you barely or never do, but gymnats use it a lot...
This exercise is rope climbing.
Let’s see why is this exercise such a game changer:

In this video, I’m going to show you an epic pulling exercise that gymnasts do, but you may have never even tried!
So, which exercise is it?
The so called buttermaker.
What? Excuse me?
When you are in hanging and you do a circular movement with straight body. That sounds impressive right?
So this is the exercise we’ll talk about today, a typical gymnast strengthening exercise which you may have never tried.
An easier variation of this one which is known by more people is the ice cream maker, when you basically do the same movement but without the circles.
This is a separate exercise as many know, but actually an important prerequisite of the buttermaker, so we’ll discuss it in this video.
How can you benefit from these exercises?
So I think that’s clear that gymnasts always do their routines with maximal precision, tightness and control, and this is what they strive for while they do strength training.
During the buttermaker and ice cream maker you will not only use your core, back and arms but will improve the whole body tension and your coordination as well, so these have more benefits than just building strength and muscle.
