You Can Help the Refugees! - Liz
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
The Syrian Civil War has created an overwhelming refugee crisis, displacing millions upon millions of people from their homes. Men, women and children have been forced to leave their jobs, schools, and possessions behind — just to stay alive. Though a large number of refugees have been accepted into neighboring countries, the majority still face severe hardship and lack basic necessities. Elsewhere in the Middle East and Africa, civilians are being forced to leave their homes due to the threat of ISIS and other radical Islamic groups. As the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, what should Christians be doing to reach out to this enormous population of people in need?
A situation as devastating and large in scale as the current refugee crisis can seem utterly hopeless—what can any one person possibly do to address a need so great? But in this episode, Kevin talks with someone who has resolved to do her part nonetheless. His guest is a 25-year-old American woman named Liz who works with refugees in the Middle East (this pseudonym, as well as the omission of certain details, are intended to protect the privacy of her and her work). Years ago, Liz began to attend a Christian church near her home that was made up of refugees and immigrants from Arab nations. As she formed relationships with members of the congregation, she developed a love for the Arab people and their culture. Liz realized that those who are forced to relocate to a new country need more than food and shelter: they also need love and friendship. After having the opportunity to visit several Middle Eastern nations herself, Liz felt God calling her to move across the world and work with refugees. Today she lives in the Middle East full time, helping to provide both physical relief and emotional/spiritual support to those in need.
Even if you aren’t able to relocate like Liz, you can still help refugees. One way is to do what Liz did at the start: find refugees who live near you already (which likely won’t require going far) and simply befriend them! This is an incredible way to display the love of Jesus, even to people who don’t believe in Him as their Savior. Another great way to help is by supporting organizations such as The Hope Collective, which are working to provide sustainable solutions to get families struck by this crisis back on their feet for the long term. (If you would like to help Liz carry out her mission, contact Kevin at this page for information on how to donate.)

Jesus in Prison - Roger Ziegler
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Jesus provided his followers with an excellent example of ministering to those who are in the greatest need of salvation: the poor, the outcasts, the orphans, the captives. This week Kevin’s guest is Roger Ziegler, who for the last 15 years has been following Jesus’ example by taking the Gospel to R. J. Donovan Correctional Facility. There are over 2.3 million prison inmates in the United States, and over 100 thousand in California alone. Roger works with Pastors to Prisoners, a ministry dedicated to reaching as many of these people as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
God has undoubtedly been working through the efforts of Pastors to Prisoners, touching the lives of more inmates every week. In addition to Roger, Kevin talks with two men who were personally impacted by the ministry: Freddy and Ralph. Freddy joined the LA street gang the Crips in 1973, and ran with the gang’s founder Tookie Williams. His lifestyle of drugs and violence landed him in prison multiple times for a total of 21 years. Ralph struggled with an inescapable drug addiction for 35 years, spending 18 of them in prison. Through Roger’s ministry, these men both found the one thing that could permanently change their lives when all else had failed: a relationship with Jesus. Today they both act as living testimonies to the power of God, ministering to others who are just as broken as they once were.
For more information about Roger’s ministry, including opportunities to get involved, visit http://www.pastorstoprisoners.org/

Alternatives to Abortion - Julie Dowler and Heidi Cessna
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
“I’ve never met a woman who regretted having her child; but I’ve met many women who regretted having an abortion.” —Heidi Cessna, CAPS
This week Kevin talks with Julie Dowler and Heidi Cessna of College Area Pregnancy Services (CAPS), a licensed medical clinic that serves women who are dealing with unplanned pregnancies. CAPS provides pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, information about all the options, and counseling for those who have suffered as a result of abortion. All of these services are free of charge.
Julie started as a financial supporter and prayer partner of CAPS when it was founded in 1998. She started working as a volunteer pregnancy counselor in 2000 and became the program director in 2004. She was promoted to her current position of Executive Director in 2008.
Heidi is the nurse manager for CAPS. She began her career as an RN at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, and started at CAPS as a volunteer receptionist. She is currently working at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in labor and delivery.
Kevin talks with Julie and Heidi about what CAPS does for pregnant women and why their work is so important. If you or someone you know, whether male or female, is unsure of what to do about a pregnancy, visit CAPSonline.org to learn about the options and make the best choice possible. For more info about why abortion is wrong and how to talk about it, look at Stand to Reason’s SLED Test and Living Waters’ 180 Movie.

Audacity: the Courage to Speak Out - Ray Comfort
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
This week Kevin talks with Ray Comfort, Founder and CEO of Living Waters Publications. Ray discusses his latest movie, Audacity, which focuses on the controversial topic of homosexuality.
Unlike Ray’s previous films, Audacity is not a documentary, but a scripted “Hollywood movie” with professional actors. The movie follows the story of a stand-up comedian who finds himself increasingly confronted by supporters of homosexuality, and faces the challenge of lovingly voicing his own convictions rather than giving into the pressure to remain silent.
Though the movie is fictional, the subject matter is all to real: in light of the recent Supreme Court decision it is already becoming more difficult for Christians to hold to biblical principles, and many are capitulating. After talking with Ray, Kevin discusses various scientific, social and medical issues related to the subject of homosexuality in order to address some of the toughest questions and objections Christians face.
Audacity is available for download now on AudacityMovie.com, and it will premier for free on YouTube on August 19th. For more resources, visit Ray’s website LivingWaters.com. You can view his previous documentary films (such as Evolution vs. God and Noah) and many other videos on the Living Waters YouTube channel.

Curing Poverty - Star Parker
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Whose job is it to take care of the needy: the government, or the church? In this episode, Kevin talks with national black conservative leader Star Parker. Parker is the founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), a think-tank devoted to creating market-based solutions to fight poverty. She has spoken on more than 190 college and university campuses about anti-poverty initiatives. In addition to these qualifications, she is intimately acquainted with the issues of poverty and welfare from experience: Star spent seven years of her life in and out of welfare dependency.
How did Star overcome her disadvantaged situation? It turns out that the welfare system only caused her to remain dependent, and prevented her from working for fear that she would lose all of her support. It wasn’t until she became involved in a church, which encouraged her to entrust her needs to God and release herself from the welfare system, that she was able to rise out of poverty.
To this day, Star believes that it is the church and not the government that can truly help the poor. Government welfare is one-size-fits-all, but every impoverished person and family has different needs that only individual attention can address. Kevin and Star discuss a variety of topics in a search for real solutions to this tough issue.
Go to UrbanCure.org to see what Star and her organization are doing to address current social issues.

Could another ice age be coming? - Dr. Lisle and Dr. Hebert
Climate change is a big topic today and is hotly debated. It has been held responsible for hurricanes, tornadoes, and the ice age. Mainstream scientists believe it has been responsible for a series of ice ages over millions of years. In fact, they warn that if we're not careful about what we do with the environment, another ice age will be triggered causing a worldwide catastrophe. But are they right? How many ice ages have there been? How volatile is our environment currently? Today on Kevin's show we have two experts that have been studying this very topic. They will share how much environmental science has been influenced by the worldview of the scientists doing the research. Dr. Jason Lisle and Dr. Jake Hebert will share exciting research that supports a biblical view of science and a single ice age caused by a worldwide flood.
Dr. Hebert is a research associate at the Institute for Creation Research. He joined ICR in 2011 as a research associate and focuses much of his work on climates before and after Noah’s Flood, among other research endeavors. He earned a master’s degree in physics in 1999 from Texas A&M University, where he studied optics and was a Dean’s Graduate Fellow from 1995-1996. He received his Ph.D. in 2011 from the University of Texas at Dallas, where his research involved a study of the possible connection between fair-weather atmospheric electricity and weather and climate.
Dr. Jason Lisle is the Director of Physical Sciences and the Institute for Creation Research and leads ICR’s gifted team of physical scientists who continue to investigate and demonstrate the evidence for creation. He graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University where he double-majored in physics and astronomy and minored in mathematics. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Colorado. Dr. Lisle specialized in solar astrophysics and has made a number of scientific discoveries regarding the solar photosphere and has contributed to the field of general relativity.
These two experts will share their wealth of knowledge today on Kevin's show and will share evidence that supports a biblical ice age. You will also learn just how much science is influenced by the worldview of the scientist. Tune in for an exciting, informative show. If you want to learn more about Dr. Lisle and Dr. Hebert and the research they're involved in, you can visit icr.org.

NASA Saturn Researcher Fired For Sharing God - David Coppedge
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Imagine this. You come into work one day and learn you're being investigated for harassment. Why? Because you shared a DVD with a co-worker about the science of intelligent design. Worse still, your boss fires you because you dared to share your beliefs. Sound unbelievable?
Well, that's exactly what happened to David Coppedge. For 14 years, David F. Coppedge worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for NASA’s most ambitious interplanetary mission, the Cassini Mission to Saturn. For most of that time, he was Team Lead System Administrator, responsible for 15 networks and 200+ computers across America and Europe. He received high ratings for his work, until he was reprimanded for sharing his beliefs. He was ultimately fired. But David Coppedge decided to fight back and took his case to court.
Tune in to Educate For Life to listen in to this discussion between Kevin Conover and guest David Coppedge. David Coppedge will take you through what happened in his case and present some stunning evidence that backs up his belief in intelligent design. He continues to write science news from a biblical world view which you can follow at crev.info. To learn more about David Coppedge and his work, visit davidcoppedge.com.

Unapologetic - Dr. Joseph Holder
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Many Christians go through life with many questions about their faith and may feel surrounded on all sides by the opposition. They are faced with tough questions such as, how can a good God allow evil? Does the Bible contain errors? How can we know it's the word of God? Because of questions like these, some lose their faith. Others keep their faith but no longer believe in important aspects of Christianity.
But there is a place where everyone can have all these questions answered. Dr. Joseph Holden from Veritas Evangelical Seminary is here to emphasize the importance of learning to defend your faith through the study of apologetics. The mission of Veritas Evangelical Seminary is simple. Their vision is to prepare a generation of spiritually mature, biblically equipped, academically advanced, and socially developed individuals for a life of opportunity and service to the glory of God.
Dr. Joseph Holden teaches at Veritas Evangelical Seminary and holds a Masters of Divinity in Apologetics and a Ph.D. in Philosophical/Systematic Theology. He also has multiple publications on various apologetic topics. He shares his wealth of knowledge with Kevin on today's show and we hope you toon in to learn more about apologetics and find answers to the tough questions. Out of a Far Country - Dr. Christopher Yuan
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
The journey from openly homosexual agnostic drug dealer to Bible-affirming Christian scholar and professor is a long and difficult one, as Dr. Christopher Yuan can attest. Dr. Yuan's parents were two Chinese expatriates who escaped the cultural revolution by fleeing to Taiwan and later came to America for higher education. They lived out the American Dream, achieving financial success and providing a bright future for their children despite having arrived in the US with nothing. But this dream turned into a nightmare for Christopher, who grew up with no religious influence in his life, was ostracized from other boys for being different and began to feel same-sex attractions after being exposed to pornography at a young age.
Dr. Yuan tells Kevin about his incredible testimony, which took both him and his mother to rock bottom before God brought them into the light. In her darkest hour, Christopher's mother heard God's voice in the form of a small pamphlet. Soon Christopher's father and brother came to know the Lord as well, and after many years of faithful prayer and fasting, so did Christopher himself. Dr. Yuan's story goes to show that God's grace can redeem anyone, even a despairing mother who is contemplating suicide and a prodigal son running as hard as he can in the opposite direction. Dr. Yuan and his mother co-authored a book about their experiences, called Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son's Journey to God. A Broken Mother's Search for Hope. To learn more about their inspiring journey, visit ChristopherYuan.com. You can also hear Christopher speak at the Veritas Apologetics Conference at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in November.

Teachers can talk about their faith - Jennifer, Janel and Camilo
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
It's not easy being a teacher—which explains why a lot of them are quitting! A recent article from The Atlantic examines some of the challenges that teachers face: from long hours of overtime to less than average pay, to having to buy missing supplies with their own money, to overwhelming stress verging on nervous breakdowns. Hard to imagine why not enough young people are choosing or sticking with a teaching career anymore! And teachers who are Christians have one more thing to worry about: potential lawsuits they might face by showing any indication of their personal faith at school.
Fortunately, there are a variety of perfectly legal ways that Christians, whether teacher or student, can live out their faith at school. Sadly, many Christians are simply not aware of these rights and have been silenced by fear. To help solve this problem, Jennifer Kvalvik created the Apples for Teachers ministry at the Rock Church in Point Loma. Kevin talks to Jennifer, Janel, and Camilo about their experiences as Christians who have worked in San Diego public schools for many years. Jennifer explains what her ministry does, as well as sharing some excellent resources for Christian teachers (such as Christian Teachers in Public Schools by Julia and Gloria Stronks).
This ministry meets once a month as a support group for Christian teachers to mutually encourage one another. Learn more and get involved by visiting SDRock.com/ministries/ApplesForTeachers! And even if you are not a teacher, you can assist them in their current service project by donating small school supplies that will go to Syrian refugees.

Rescuing Millennials from Bad Politics - Audrea Taylor
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
"In every action we take, we are doing one of two things: we are either helping to create a hell on earth or helping to bring down a foretaste of heaven." These are the words of Chuck Colson, and Audrea Taylor, the founder of im2moro, has taken them to heart. In this episode, Audrea and Kevin discuss the crossroads that America has arrived at with the upcoming presidential election, and what millennial voters must do to secure the future of the nation.
While performing with her choir in Washington D.C. as a young teen, Audrea heard an event speaker state that the political future of America rests on the next generation. She suddenly realized that almost no one from this "next generation" was present or showing an interest in politics! That's why she and a group of like-minded individuals formed im2moro, an organization devoted to promoting the principles that make America great, as well as encouraging young people to think critically and get involved in politics.
You can learn more at im2moro.com, and find them on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. You can contact Audrea or even book her as a speaker by visiting the website, or emailing her at audrea@im2moro.com.

Reasoning With God - Michael Bossman, Conor Anderson, Evan Young
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
At the beginning of a new school year, most students are worrying about settling into their dorm room with a new roommate, finding their classrooms, or how they're going to pay for textbooks. Their parents may be worrying about how well their child will do academically and hoping they stay out of trouble. But if you are a Christian student or parent you may be worrying about how you, or your child, will survive college or high school with a faith that is intact.
According to recent studies, about 25% of college professors are professing atheists or agnostics whereas only about 7% of the general public are atheists or agnostics. Only 6% of professors believe the bible is the actual word of God and 51% say it's an ancient book with good moral precepts. 75% of teachers and professors say that religion has no place in public schools. With statistics like these, a Christian parent or student has a reason to be worried. In fact, 8 out of 10 young people will leave the faith due to questions they encounter in public school.
But today on Education For Life, Kevin is joined by three guests who are actively working to turn the tide with the Ratio Christi organization. Ratio Christi means "The Reason of Christ". Kevin will speak with Michael Bossman, Vice President of Ratio Christi, Conor Anderson, Chapter Director, and Evan Young, a student who has been mentored by Ratio Christi members. Their mission is to equip university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for following Jesus Christ. They aim to show young adults how reasonable a belief in Christ really is.
Tune in to hear the amazing testimony of these three men and learn about the purpose of Ratio Christi. The learn more about Ratio Christi and their program you can visit ratiochristi.org. You can also get involved and be a mentor for a student or schedule a member to run an apologetics class at your church. There are many ways to get involved and you can view them all at http://ratiochristi.org/partners/get-involved/. Gay and/or Christian? - Candice Czubernat
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
To many, the chasm between Christianity and homosexuality is insurmountably large. Some people believe that a person can be both a true Christian and openly homosexual. Is it possible to hold this position without compromising the Bible's teachings? Kevin discusses the issue with Candice Czubernat, a therapist, writer, speaker and professing Christian who is raising two kids with her female spouse.
Candice is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Washington and an MFTI in the state of California. She has a Masters in Counseling Psychology and has been working in the mental health field for over a decade. Candice grew up in a loving home, but her Christian roots did not provide any context or support for her struggle with the notion of being gay.
Kevin and Candice fall on opposite sides of the debate, but come together in spite of their disagreement to express their thoughts in a civil discussion. Tune in to hear Candice explain why she holds the position she does and how she views scripture, as well as Kevin's response.

Jews For Jesus - Dan Sered
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
If you had to guess the number one belief system in the state of Israel, what would you say? If you said "Jewish" you would be right and wrong. The majority of Israelis would say they were Jewish simply because it is their nationality. However, the major belief system in Israel is atheism or secularism.
Furthermore, the majority do not recognize Jesus as a jew, much less the savior of the world. Many simply do not know who Jesus was or that his name in Hebrew means salvation. Israel is one of the most unreached parts of the world. Today on Educate For Life, Kevin speaks with a man who has made it his mission to reach these people. Guest Dan Sered knows first hand what it is like to have never heard the name of Jesus.
Dan Sered was born in Israel on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. His upbringing, like that of many Israelis, was secular, though he was bar mitzvah at age thirteen. Two years later, his family moved to New York where Dan attended Stony Brook University and met Dinah, a Jewish believer in Jesus. Dinah shared the Gospel with Dan explaining that the name of Jesus in Hebrew is Y'shua, and showed Dan how the Hebrew Bible spoke of His coming. Dan committed his life to Y'shua, but not before telling his parents first. Surprisingly, they didn't respond negatively and Dan discovered that Dinah, her family, and the church had all prayed about his parents' response. Dan's parent's reaction was one of 'you will get over this Jesus' which of course Dan did not. This led to Dan's parents' disowning him.
Tune in to hear the rest of Dan's amazing story and how God is working among His people. You can learn more about Dan and his group Jews For Jesus at http://jewsforjesus.org/. You will also find information on how to get involved or to support Dan's mission.

Democratic Socialism vs Democratic Republic
Did you know that America is not a democracy? In fact many of our founding fathers and early presidents abhorred democratic government. James Madison once said, "Democracy is the most vile form of government. ... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as the have been violent in their deaths."
However, the founding fathers realized that certain properties of democracy would benefit America which is why they framed the United States as a democratic republic. They also recognized that a democratic republic would only be stable as long as God was at the center.
Today's political atmosphere has shifted. Democratic socialism has become popular to some and to others it is still a taboo. Join Kevin Conover to dissect these often confusing political terms. What is democratic socialism and is it something to be feared? If we allow it in American are we opening the door to communism and ultimately fascism. Is this issue being blown out of proportion? Hightlight: Jews For Jesus

Lawsuit Against God - Clay Jones and Sean Taylor
The debate over the existence of God and the presence of evil is ages old. The greek philosopher Epicurus pondered this seeming contradiction. He wrote, "Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
In the modern age, this debate landed in a court of law. In 2007, a state senator sought an injunction against God for His many malicious acts. In his lawsuit, the senator claimed God has caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.” The judge eventually dismissed the case because the Almighty could not be properly notified of the lawsuit because of his unlisted home address.
Today, that debate continues on Kevin Conover's Educate For Life radio show. He is joined by guests Clay Jones and Sean Taylor. Clay Jones is a professor at Biola University and is writing a book, Why God Allows Evil, and speaks widely on that subject. Find him on the web at http://www.clayjones.net. Sean Taylor is an active member of the secular humanist, skeptic, and atheist communities in Southern California including the San Diego Coalition of Reason.

A Legacy of Creation - Dr. Henry Morris III
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Not long ago, the debate between creation and evolution was almost entirely one-sided—at least in the scientific sense. Although Christians long opposed the evolutionary explanation of life on Scriptural grounds, they had no answers to any of the scientific arguments. That is, until Dr. Henry Morris published The Genesis Flood in 1961. This book became, as Dr. Steven Jay Gould commented, the "founding document of creationism," and Dr. Morris the founder of the modern scientific creationist movement.
In this episode Kevin talks with Dr. Morris' son, Dr. Henry Morris III, about his father's legacy, the ongoing success of the Institute for Creation Research, and other issues relating to creationism. They discuss current creation research projects, the future and challenges of creationism in the church, and more.
In addition to the many free resources they offer on ICR.org, the Institute for Creation Research provides creationism training at special conference events. One such event will take place at Calvary Chapel in Oceanside this October, and feature leading creation scientists Dr. Henry Morris III, Dr. Jason Lisle and Dr. Jake Hebert. Don't miss out on such a great opportunity! Visit ICR's event page for more information: http://www.icr.org/event/1623/

Leave Parenting to Parents - Michael Farris
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
A 13 year old boy told a school counselor that he felt he should not have to go to church three times a week with his parents. The counselor called for an "emergency removal" of the boy from his home. At a subsequent hearing the judge mandated that his parents only take him to church once a week to retain custody of their son.
This scenario occurred not under a communist regime or in a George Orwell novel, but in modern-day America. It is just one example (albeit an extreme one) of the government undermining parental rights. This week Kevin talks with Michael Farris, President of ParentalRights.org and Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. Michael is a constitutional lawyer (and the litigator on the above case) devoted to the issue of parental rights. He explains how the government has given itself the ability to take rights away even from responsible, non-abusive parents, and what we must do to correct this injustice.
When our nation was founded, the right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children was so obvious that it didn't require mentioning in the Bill of Rights (c.f. the 9th Amendment). Today, however, this sense is not as common. That is why Michael is leading the charge, and garnering support from people of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and political affiliations, to add a parental rights amendment to the Constitution.
For more information and to sign the petition for the amendment, visit ParentalRights.org. You can learn more about this issue from two free 30-minute documentaries: Overruled and Building the Machine.

Healing Hurting Families - Dr. Julie Hayden
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
This week Kevin talks to psychologist Dr. Julie Hayden, Dean of the Graduate School of Behavior Sciences at Southern California Seminary. Julie is trained not only in psychology but also in religious studies (in which she has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s). This dual focus enables her to approach psychology from a Biblical perspective, in order to best understand how God has designed humans to function. It also allows her to understand how certain behaviors, such as pornography abuse, are harmful to both individuals and families.
Maintaining a family is never easy, but it’s much harder when a member struggles with something like addiction (whether drugs or pornography), PTSD, or infidelity. However, as traumatic as they are, even these issues can be overcome: with the proper methods, there can be healing. But how do you confront a loved one about something so sensitive, and how can you be sure that they will make a lasting change instead of just ending up back where they started? To answer these and other questions, Dr. Julie Hayden is hosting the second annual Family Conference at Mapleview Baptist Church, from April 22-23. For more information and to sign up in advance, visit FamilyConference.info). You can also check out Julie’s website, GoRhombus.com, for information on other events and training opportunities.
