What will the Janus case do for Christian Values - David Schmus
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Would you donate to a cause that you don’t believe in? What if you were forced to support a cause because you were part of a certain organization. If you are a teacher, you are likely in a union. If you’re not in a union you still have to pay dues to the union. If you are a conservative and/or a Christian, your dues are being used for causes you may not be willing to support. But, there is a Supreme Court case that may soon change all that.
Today on Educate For Life Kevin has David Schmus. David Schmus has been involved in the public schools for over 15 years, as a high school AP US History/Government teacher and a Christian Club adviser. He has been repeatedly honored as Most Inspirational Teacher. David and his wife Elizabeth have been married since 1992, and have 4 daughters. He holds an M.A. in Biblical Studies and Theology from Biola University, taught Biblical Worldview classes as an adjunct professor for 14 years, and was recently a featured speaker in the Talbot School of Theology Chapel Series. Now on staff full-time with CEAI as Outreach Director, David is passionate about coming alongside Christian educators to provide them with the resources and encouragement to walk out their calling.
David Schmus will also talk about Janus v. AFSCME, a Supreme Court case that many expect will get a favorable ruling. Many observers expect that the U.S. Supreme Court is going to free all public school educators from forced unionism in the Janus v. AFSCME case, with a ruling expected in June.
After Janus, you may have the choice to join a union, join another professional association like CEAI, or join nothing at all. We encourage you to get the facts and pray about this important decision. The people at CEAI are not anti-union but are opposed to forced union membership. If you feel God is leading you to stay in your union, then do that. But if you feel Him leading you to other options, then they would love to serve you as a member.
Tune in for a very informative episode. If you are a teacher or know someone who is a teacher you can find great resources and information at https://ceai.org/.

Young Life - Tobias Haglund and Kristi Fox
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as guests, Tobias Haglund and Kristi Fox. Tobias and Kristi are with Young Life a Christian Youth Ministry. Young Life is a group of caring adults who go where kids are, win the right to be heard, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
The vision began in the early 1930s when an elderly woman, Clara Frasher, recruited a group of her friends to pray for the teenagers attending Gainesville High School in Texas. Six years later, during the spring of 1939, a young seminarian, Jim Rayburn, started a chapter of the Miracle Book Club in Gainesville, Texas, a small town 75 miles to the north of Dallas. As he was developing the program in Gainesville, Rayburn also worked with a local pastor, Clyde Kennedy.
Today, the Young Life mission is still committed to incarnational witness: embodying and expressing the love of Christ through relationships with all kinds of kids: WyldLife is our outreach to middle school kids, Young Life for those in their high school years, and Young Life College is our program for college and university students. In addition to the ministries mentioned above, Young Life reaches military teens through a program called Club Beyond, the Small Towns/Rural initiative brings Young Life to communities of fewer than 25,000 people, and Amicus is Young Life’s student exchange and hosting program for international kids.
Tune in to hear more about Young Life and their incredible ministry and how they are changing lives one kid at a time. If you want to explore more, head over to https://www.younglife.org.

Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Marijuana recently became legal in California and many other states are sure to follow. But just because it’s legal does that mean it’s right to use it? How addicting is it? What are its effects on the body and mind?

Dr. Julie Hayden is a licensed Psychologist, the Dean of the Graduate School of Behavioral Sciences at Southern California Seminary, and the Executive Director of Rhombus. She is also the co-chair of the San Diego MFT Consortium and involved with the San Diego Domestic Violence Council. Dr. Hayden has a BA in Biblical Studies, a Masters of Religious Studies, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and a Doctorate of Psychology.

Is Design Undeniable? - Doug Axe
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Doug Axe. Douglas Axe is the director of Biologic Institute. His research uses both experiments and computer simulations to examine the functional and structural constraints on the evolution of proteins and protein systems.
After a Caltech Ph.D. he held postdoctoral and research scientist positions at the University of Cambridge, the Cambridge Medical Research Council Centre, and the Babraham Institute in Cambridge. His work and ideas have been featured in many scientific journals, including the Journal of Molecular Biology, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature, and in such books as Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt by Stephen Meyer and Life’s Solution by Simon Conway Morris.
Throughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the “design intuition”—the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need the knowledge to accomplish can only be accomplished by someone who has that knowledge. According to Axe, for the ingenious task of inventing life, this knower can only be God.
Starting with the hallowed halls of academic science, Axe dismantles the widespread belief that Darwin’s theory of evolution is indisputably true, showing instead that a gaping hole has been at its center from the beginning. He then explains in plain English the science that proves our design intuition scientifically valid. Lastly, he uses everyday experience to empower ordinary people to defend their design intuition, giving them the confidence and courage to explain why it has to be true and the vision to imagine what biology will become when people stand up for this truth.

Is Genesis History Revisited - Thomas Purifoy
Join our team, get educated, make a difference. http://join.educateforlife.org
Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Thomas Purifoy. Thomas Purifoy is the producer of “Is Genesis History?”, and movie all about determining whether Genesis can be proven to be actual history or a series of mere legends.
Is Genesis History? features over a dozen scientists and scholars explaining how the world intersects with the history recorded in Genesis. From rock layers to fossils, from lions to stars, from the Bible to artifacts, this fascinating film will change the way you see the world.
The film’s goal is to provide a reasonable case for Creation in six normal days, a real Adam and Eve, an actual fall, a global flood, and a tower of Babel. Dr. Del Tackett, creator of “The Truth Project,” serves as your guide—hiking through canyons, climbing up mountains, and diving below the sea—in an exploration of two competing views … one compelling truth.

How An Atheist Became a Christian - Mary Jo Sharp
“Religion is for the weak-minded.” That is the mindset among many who are non-religious or atheist. Kevin’s guest, Mary Jo Sharp, thought exactly that. But then she discovered otherwise. How does that happen?
Mary Jo is a former atheist from the Pacific Northwest, who thought religion was odd at best. But then she went looking for answers to her questions and she found the answers in the Bible.
She now holds a Masters in Christian Apologetics and is an assistant professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University. Several years ago, a friend asked her, "Why would a woman want to go to a session on apologetics?” Her question hit me like a load of bricks. She was so excited about finding answers to her doubts that she had never considered there was a lack of women in this field (or, as the question implies, a lack of interest from women). She came to discover, however, it is not so much a lack of interest as it is a lack of acquaintance.
She finds that apologetics serves us in three ways: it answers doubts, builds confidence, and changes our lives. Apologetics is a field that handles the difficult questions people have regarding belief in God. Some of those questions include: 1) How can anyone say God is good when there is so much evil in the world? 2) How do I know that Jesus rose from the dead? 3) Why should I trust the Bible? and 3) How do I know God exists? Unanswered questions may eventually lead to doubt. Those doubts, after festering for many years, can lead a person to live a defeated life; one that lacks the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, a person cannot reasonably trust God if they do not know whether or not He exists: in bigger things such as salvation, or even in smaller things found in daily living. Yet, when a person begins to answer their doubts those answers can build their confidence in what they believe. As a person gains confidence in their faith, that confidence can begin to change their lives.
Tune in for a great show!

How Rome Fell - Professor Edward Watts
In 509 BC, the Roman Republic was born. The Romans established a republic, a government in which citizens elected representatives to rule on their behalf. A republic is quite different from a democracy, in which every citizen is expected to play an active role in governing the state. This is the governmental model America’s Founding Fathers chose to emulate.
Because of the close similarities between Rome and America, some use it as a model to predict what the fate of America may be. Is America fated to fall and repeat the same mistakes as those of the Roman Republic? Here today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Professor Edward Watts.
Professor Watts received his Ph.D. in History from Yale University in 2002. His research interests center on the intellectual and religious history of the Roman Empire and the early Byzantine Empire. His first book, City and School in Late Antique Athens and Alexandria (University of California Press, 2006), explains how the increasingly Christian upper class of the late antique world used a combination of economic and political pressures to neutralize pagan elements of the traditional educational system.
His second book, Riot in Alexandria: Historical Debate in Pagan and Christian Communities (University of California Press, 2010), uses Greek, Latin, Coptic, and Syriac sources to reconstruct an Alexandrian riot that erupted in 486 AD. Riot received a 2010 PROSE Award Honorable Mention in Classics and Ancient History. His third book, The Final Pagan Generation (University of California Press, 2015) offers a generational history of the men born in the 310s that traces the experience of living through the fourth century’s dramatic religious and political changes. It was awarded the 2015 Phi Alpha Theta Best Subsequent Book Prize. His fourth book, Hypatia: The Life and Legend of an Ancient Philosopher (Oxford University Press, 2017) recounts the life of an important female philosopher whose work redefined philosophy and whose death resonated as a symbol of dramatic religious and social change in the early fifth century. He is also the author of Mortal Republic: How Rome Fell into Tyranny (Basic Books, 2018).

How School Unions Bully Teachers - Rebecca Friedricks
Teachers in America are under attack by the very organization that was set up to protect them. There are stories nationwide of teachers who have been harassed and intimidated by the Teachers Unions. But now that the Janus Case has passed, those teachers now have the freedom to leave the union but still many do not.
Here on Educate For Life today Kevin has as his guest Rebecca Friedricks to help break it all down and explain what is actually going on. Rebecca Friedrichs has been an elementary school educator in Southern California for 28 years. Since the first day of her career in 1988, she’s been concerned about the policies and politics of the teachers’ union she’s forced to financially support.
Although she “opted out” of the political dues for the first ten years of her career, she later joined as a full member in order to gain a voice because “agency fee payers” lose all rights of membership, including the right to voice their opinions and vote within collective bargaining.
She served on her local union board for three years with hopes that union representatives would listen to common sense and reason in order to bring about positive change in her district and in union expenditures of members’ dues. She discovered that many union representatives agreed with her concerns, but to her disappointment, she was unable to make any positive impact because even the union representatives were afraid to speak up to union bosses. Rebecca knows from personal experience that even union representatives have no real voice in union policies, and are bullied and silenced if they dare to question the unions’ narrow views.

How to Reach Muslims For Christ - Pastor George Saieg
Recently in the news, there has been the story of the ISIS bride. Hoda Muthana left Alabama at the age of 19 to join ISIS of her own free will. Now she wants to come home, with her young son, but whether she will be able to get back into the United States is completely out of her hands.
Muthana, now 24, insists she has the right to come back, and she's pleading for a second chance. The Trump administration, however, does not consider her a U.S. citizen.
So, should she be allowed to return to the US? Here today on Educate For Life is Pastor George Saieg to provide a unique perspective on this story. Born and raised in Sudan Pastor George Saieg is all too familiar with Islam. Now the founder and director of Ministry to Muslims, his lifelong experiences with Islam have given him a burden to reach Muslims with the truth of the Gospel.
God revived Saieg’s passion in 2001, with a vision. While Saieg stood in a shopping center parking lot in Southern California, he envisioned a tent overflowing with Muslims that needed to hear the truth. Saieg immediately asked the parking lot owner for some space to hold a book fair. The man granted his request and went a step further – he provided a location for an Arabic Christian bookstore.
Just a few weeks later the attack on 9/11 occurred and George realized his calling to expose Islam’s deceptive teachings while also mobilizing American Christians to reach out to their Muslim neighbors. Soon after, he began a Weekly Outreach to Islamic Centers and has been training Christians to share their faith ever since. God has given George a platform to speak in churches and at conferences all across the US. In 2006, George was ordained as a pastor.

How Can God Allow Pain
What if you could feel no pain? At first, you may think that may be great. There is a real disease called Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhydrosis. People with this disorder can’t feel severe pain and they can’t regulate their body temperature by sweating. They can die from a severe injury that they don’t even realize they have.
So maybe it’s not so great to feel no pain after all. But why is there any pain at all? How could God allow the pain and suffering that we see around us? Today on Educate For Life, Kevin dives deep into the topic of pain and suffering. You will learn some of the reasons why suffering exists.

Reaching India For Christ - Alexander John and John Mathai
India is the second-most populous country in the world and the seventh-largest by landmass. The majority of the people practice Hinduism. A small minority of the people are Christians. As a mission field, India is extremely dangerous and in some areas, it is a crime to convert to another religion.
Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as his guests Pastor Alexander John and John Mathai. They are with India Christian Fellowship in San Diego. ICF's beginnings can be traced to 2003 when three families began to come together regularly to pray. For many months, these gatherings took place on alternate Saturdays. The Lord directed more families to this fellowship from those migrating to San Diego for work. As the number of attending families increased, they began to meet in homes on a weekly basis.
They also support missionaries in India. India is an area with unique dangers and challenges and today you will hear all about it. Tune in for a great episode

In New York, Only Infants Get The Death Penalty
Recently, in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that legalizes abortion up to nine months. How did we get to a point in this country where this is acceptable? The very definition of being a human has been changed.
What is the difference between a fetus 2 days before birth and a baby 2 days after birth? Virtually nothing except for location. If a baby is inside the womb it is legal to kill it but after birth, it is considered infanticide. Does the size, level of development, environment, or degree of dependency (SLED test) change the value of a life? Today on Educate For Life Kevin will make the argument that none of these things change the value of the life of an unborn child.
Tune in for a very informative episode and learn some way you can talk to your family and friends about this difficult topic.

Are Ghosts Real? - Nichole Strickland
Polls suggest that 45% of Americans believe in ghosts. Around the world, there is rich lore of people encountering entities or the spirits of loved ones long gone. Yet in today’s culture of materialism and science, the majority of people believe that the paranormal does not exist.
So, what, if any, is the evidence that the paranormal exists? Today on Educate For Life, Kevin talks with Nichole Strickland, a paranormal researcher. She founded the San Diego Paranormal Research Society. They investigate and research happenings in the San Diego area to determine whether or not it can be paranormal.
Nicole Strickland currently resides in San Diego, California, and has been innately intrigued with the paranormal since childhood and has studied the field for many years. 53 Biblical figures confirmed by archaeology
There are at least 53 people in the Old Testament whose existence has been confirmed by archaeology. In “Archaeology Confirms 50 Real People in the Bible” in the March/April 2014 issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, Purdue University scholar Lawrence Mykytiuk lists 50 figures from the Hebrew Bible who have been confirmed archaeologically. His follow-up article, “Archaeology Confirms 3 More Bible People,” published in the May/June 2017 issue of BAR, adds another three people to the list. The identified persons include Israelite kings and Mesopotamian monarchs as well as lesser-known figures. Mykytiuk writes that these figures “mentioned in the Bible have been identified in the archaeological record. Their names appear in inscriptions written during the period described by the Bible and in most instances during or quite close to the lifetime of the person identified.” -Biblical Archaeological Society For more evidence proving the Bible is true visit EducateForLife.org

Possibly The Best Homeschool Platform? - Christina Robinson and Julie Friesen
Homeschooling is gaining popularity. Among many the reasons why parents choose to homeschool their kids are crowded classes and a decrease in the quality of education from public schools. But what if you’re not a teacher? That’s where homeschool platforms come in.
Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as his guests Christina Robinson and Julie Friesen. They are both involved with Classical Conversations Homeschooling. They are a Christian-centered homeschooling program. The purpose of Classical Conversations® is to lead the home-centered education movement by teaching parents and students the classical tools of learning so that they can discover God’s created order and beauty— and as a result— enable others to do the same.
Classical Conversations fulfills its mission and purpose by establishing and supporting Classical Conversations communities across the United States and in several countries, and by empowering parents in the classical, Christian teaching of their children through Parent Practicums. They enable parents everywhere to equip their children with a Christ-centered worldview and the classical “tools of learning” in order to impact the world for God’s glory.
Tune in to learn more about Classical Conversations and the benefits of homeschooling.

How the Sexual Revolution Has Changed Schools - Dr. Judith Reisman
Ever think that sex education has a link directly to abortion? In the words of Planned Parenthood, “[We must] be ready as educators and parents to help young people obtain sex satisfaction before marriage . . .and we must be ready to provide young boys and girls with the best contraception measures available so they will have the necessary means to achieve sexual satisfaction without having to risk possible pregnancy.”
Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Dr. Judith Reisman to illuminate the growing problem with abortion and sexual education. As a researcher and author, historian and teacher, Judith Reisman has focused on pornography as a pandemic, addicting men, women and children and upon exposing Dr. Alfred C. Kinsey's fraudulent sex science research and education.
Dr. Kinsey is considered one of the pioneers of the sexual revolution. Dr. Reisman’s research aims squarely at Dr. Kinsey’s research and demonstrates how it has degraded and damaged our society, particularly the impressionable minds of school children. To read much more on Dr. Judith’s research, check out https://www.thereismaninstitute.org

Caleb and Kevin discuss the "why" behind atheism and theism
Recently, Caleb Sampson, messaged me on Facebook and asked if I would be willing to get together and discuss some of the big issues that he and I disagree on. He attended Christian High but ending up transferring to a local public high school and graduated last year. He never took my apologetics class at Christian High. Many of the issues he brings up in this discussion are typical of students graduating from public high schools these days. Please pray for him. Equip your kids with answers at EducateForLife.org
