Hollywood's output for 2024 is pretty grim. Hollywood spent billions on films in 2023, only to get millions in return. The superhero fad came to a screaming halt with the MCU crashing down and the DCEU finally being put out of it's misery. Other big franchise fare stumbled out of the gate, never to recover and several smaller budget films tapped for greatness, failed to get off the ground. Shohei Ohtani signed a record breaking 10 year/ $700 million contract to become the face of the Los Angeles Dodgers. But it was a contract that almost never happened. One of the teams on the short list for Ohtani was supposedly the Dodgers inter-division rivals, the San Francisco Giants. According to Buster Posey, the Giants floated a nearly identical contract, but Ohtani was discouraged to sign in the Bay Area due to the dilapidated condition of the once great city. Grand Theft Auto 6 dropped its first trailer and set a tentative release date to get hype over. Did it work? It became the most viral video in history, so yeah, it worked. There is a lot to go over in the 91-second trailer, not least of which the main character, Lucia. The first female protagonist in series history and there is a rumor that she might also be the first transgender protagonist in series history as well. But take that and many other rumors with a bucket of salt. Everyone appears to be somewhere between astronomically excited and cautiously optimistic. The Holiday season is accusation season. In a matter of days, Axl Rose of Guns 'N Roses, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Jamie Foxx and Sean "Diddy" Combs all catch separate #MeToo claims out of New York. All of the accusations are also from years gone by, some as "recent" as 2015, but others from the late 1980's. But what binds them all together is that there is a temporary law, the Adult Survivors Act, that extended the statue of limitations on such "crimes" indefinitely, and it was drawing to a close before the end of November. So either these guys are real dirt bags, or the ticking clock was about to strike midnight and the opportunity to secure a bag was about to evaporate. Marvel is in big trouble on several fronts. The Marvels disaster will eventually blow over, but they have a slate of projects that are on the way that look equally troublesome, as well as a core villain who is the biggest problem of all. Insider reports have it that Kang the Conqueror is on the way out. Jonathan Majors going to court is only a slight reason behind this decision, as Kang just never really landed like Disney hoped for. What they do from there is anyone's guess, but the other rumor is Doctor Doom will be brought in, but how will that be better under this current regime? Of the projects they are scheduled to put out, Captain America: Brave New World is headed back into production. It was essentially finished and ready for a May 2024 release, but getting pushed back a year to redo certain aspects is a must.
