Some Hard Realities Regarding Air Service
We take 8 minutes to outline the fact that a potential Supreme Court decision could mangle regional air service. We talk about how pilot shortage are NOT what is causing airlines to curtail service to small communities. Finally, we look at the threat of DOT intervention in airline service issues.

Air Travel Demand - Can It Remain Robust?
Invest seven minutes. We're covering critical areas regarding where air traffic will be headed in the second half of 2022. It's data and insights not covered elsewhere.
- Higher Seat Loading - airlines raising fares to return to 2019 revenues, but over a lot less capacity.
- Inflation. When food is up 13%, gas hitting close to $5, and diesel facing a shortage, plus consumer sentiment heading south, that is not a recipe for air traffic growth. Jet-A prices? Plan on up, up, and away. Considering that the occupants of the White House have spent the last 18 months choking off oil and gas production, the airline industry can't look for relief.
- Our latest 2022 Airports:USA forecast... and caveats.
- Estimates of capacity for rest of year v 2019.
- The four major air travel sectors - what we can expect for each.

Electric Airliners - Questions Nobody Wants To Ask
Summary: The excitement over electric air transport is the next new thing. Invest ten minutes with this video for some perspectives not often covered.
Unfortunately, the aviation industry is looking mostly at the tailpipe to justify their use. The hard facts are that several key economic and environmental aspects have not yet been properly researched.
First, much of the mineral sources are not responsibly managed. Second, the supply chain of battery supply is uncertain. Third, the real cost of battery power - assuming responsible production and supply - is not yet certain. Finally, there is insufficient planning for handling post-use batteries.

Small Community Airports: The Economic Opportunities Are Enormous
Join us for nine minutes of exploring the real future of America's small community airports. It is unfortunate that many are being lead down a dead end with attempts to reestablish commercial air service that's all about the past, and not the future. In this video we take a look at the new directions that small communities across the USA can pursue to attract industrial investment that are going to be fleeing from states where doing business is becoming progressively - literally - more difficult.

Time To Recognize Air Service Realities
The restructuring of the US air transportation system is in full motion, regardless of the efforts of many ASD programs to reverse it. In this video we candidly and directly outline how communities and the DOT need to stop assuming that the 1980s can be brought back

Danger! Electric Airplanes Are Great. But The Supply Chain Isn't Secure
Electric aircraft are a viable and important part of the future. But current battery technology and supply chains are not secure. It makes no sense to plan a future transportation modality when the sources of power are based on problematic supply, politically-vulnerable sources, and production that represent major social and environmental problems.

Oil At $130: Plan On More Air Service Cutbacks
The increase in oil to over $130 a barrel will translate into near-term and permanent airline service cutbacks, particularly to smaller cities where consumers have alternative air travel options.
Add in 10%+ inflation and a White House that wants to squeeze oil prices up to "encourage" purchase of electric vehicles, and the consumer is in the financial middle.

The Ukraine War Will Have Major Effects on Both Global and US Air Service
The economic and geopolitical fallout from the Russian invasion of the Ukraine will actually accelerate a number of air service trends already in play in the USA. To start, the spike in oil will translate into higher jet-A costs, and accelerate both the retirement of 50-seat jets and further consolidate air service access. Further, the changes in international traffic demand may temporarily threaten trans-Atlantic service from secondary gateways including Austin, New Orleans, Cincinnati/Norther Kentucky, and others. The shooting is in the Ukraine. The stray economic bullets are hitting air service at smaller communities and others in the USA.

Air Service Incentives...Let's Stop Wasting Money
Air service incentives are a waste without professional business-case analyses.
The public, politicians, and civic leaders are often completely unaware of the economic realities of air transportation and of emerging consumer communication dynamics. Too often the goal is defined only as “more service” or just “scheduled flights” – with no discussion of how it will be a communication channel that delivers specific, defined benefits.
Here’s the direction of this week’s Aviation Unscripted video. Financial incentives for “commercial service” or “more flights” are a business transaction. Specifics on what is intended, what the service will accomplish, whether the consumer has better options, and whether the proposed incentives will deliver viable air access, should be clear and defined before any checks are written. Typically, that is not the case.
In this week’s Unscripted we spend just 7 minutes outlining how the approach to air service incentives must change. Invest the time to hear a different perspective - click on and join us. And let us know your thoughts. We’re posing questions that challenge the consensus.
