The Ukraine War Will Have Major Effects on Both Global and US Air Service

The economic and geopolitical fallout from the Russian invasion of the Ukraine will actually accelerate a number of air service trends already in play in the USA. To start, the spike in oil will translate into higher jet-A costs, and accelerate both the retirement of 50-seat jets and further consolidate air service access. Further, the changes in international traffic demand may temporarily threaten trans-Atlantic service from secondary gateways including Austin, New Orleans, Cincinnati/Norther Kentucky, and others.
