There's been a major development to a story I first brought you in May. A lawyer sued New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the Department of Health and won big time. Some background -- there was a quarantine regulation on the books in New York state. It allowed the health department to call on law enforcement to detain and quarantine anyone who may or may not be sick with any possible disease for an indefinite, undefined amount of time. It could have been someone of any age, including kids. It was the equivalent of medical concentration camps. A lawyer named Bobbie Anne Cox took on the legal fight with some state lawmakers. On Friday, a New York State Supreme Court judge ruled that Governor Kathy Hochul’s forced quarantine regulation was unconstitutional. That's right - it's null. It's over. There’s an award-winning, popular children’s book sitting in classrooms and library book shelves all over the country. Parents from across the country have quietly reached out to me about it with questions. It’s called “Flamer” by Mike Curato. It’s a graphic novel about a boy going to summer camp. Some parents are concerned that this graphic novel is, in fact, graphic. The book's website mentions "Flamer" is best for kids 14 and up. However, the book has been found in some elementary school libraries, as well as middle and high schools. Based on my records requests and tips from parents, the book seems to be particularly common in Texas public schools. However, you'll find it in school libraries in the "teen" section from California to Tennessee to Virginia. On Wednesday, the FBI arrested a 26-year-old man named Nicholas Roske from Simi Valley, California, for attempting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his Maryland home. According to court documents, the man said he wanted to kill Kavanaugh and then kill himself. Police said he had a gun, knife, ammunition, hiking boots, and other supplies on him to carry out this crime. Wait until you hear what his motive was, according to an unsealed affidavit. On Thursday, the California State Senate passed SB 866. Senate Bill 866 allows children as young as 12 years old to get vaccinated without their parents' consent. It’s also called the “Teens Choose Vaccines” act. That means that if parents say no, kids can legally go to a free pizza clinic at their school and be bribed into getting the vaccine. There's a new regulation on the books in New York State. If you haven't heard about it, you should, because New Yorker or not - this could set a precedent nationwide. It allows the state to use its law enforcement to quarantine anybody it believes to be possibly sick with any contagious disease and remove them from their home. This goes for a New Yorker of any age for an undefined amount of time, so this could apply to children or the elderly. "For the purposes of quarantine orders, quarantine locations may include home quarantine, other residential or temporary housing quarantine, or quarantine at such other locations as the public health authority issuing the order deems appropriate, consistent with any direction that the State Commissioner of Health may issue," it reads. Bobbie Anne Cox is an experienced attorney in New York taking on Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state's Department of Health. Abortion policy. Roe v Wade. It's the topic of conversation across the country. On May 3, 2022, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed that someone leaked a draft opinion from the Supreme Court seemingly overturning Roe v. Wade. Roberts also called for an investigation into how it happened. While the legal battle over abortion policy would likely be ongoing, the ruling would make abortion policy a state issue rather than a federal one. Los Angeles County has a vaccine mandate for all its employees. If an employee receives and exemption, he or she must get tested weekly through one company - and one company only - to stay employed. The game of chess between the state of Florida and Disney is heating up. For context, Disney World is so influential that it really has its own little world. It has something called the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It’s a special taxing district for Disney World in Florida. However, the Florida Senate just voted to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District. This will make Disney’s life more difficult. For example, Disney would no longer be able to grant itself permission to renovate buildings. Florida lawmakers voted to strip Disney of its special tax status - something Governor Ron DeSantis will likely sign into law. To summarize, a tech reporter with The Washington Post named Taylor Lorenz wrote a piece about the popular Twitter account @libsoftiktok. She largely accuses the account owner of being anti-LGBTQIA. A lot of the content focuses on schools, with sometimes teachers or people posing as teachers bragging about corrupting their classrooms on their social media pages. Lorenz is accused of doxing the woman behind the Libs of TikTok account, harassing her family members by showing up at their front doors in-person, and of dishing it out...but not being able to take it.
