Changing the Installer Code on a LYNX Touch Security System

In this video, Joe shows users how to change the Installer Code on a Honeywell LYNX Touch Security System. The default code on a Honeywell LYNX Touch is 4112. We usually advise keeping this code at the default to prevent the user from being locked out of programming. But it can be changed if needed.

Keeping the Installer Code at its default setting does not present a security risk. This code can only be used to disarm the system if it was the code used to arm it in the first place. So even if an intruder knew the default code, it would not matter, provided that only the Master Code or a general user code is used to arm the system. And by keeping the code at the default, a user is less likely to become locked out of programming. Even if they forget the code, they can just look it up later.

The Installer Code is not usually needed for daily tasks on an alarm system. But this code is needed for performing most programming functions. This includes adding new sensors and editing any programmed wireless zones. That is why it is important for an end user to know their system's Installer Code or have the ability to readily look it up.

But if a user does want to change their Installer Code, they do have the ability to do so. To change the Installer Code, the user will need to provide the current Installer Code for the system. The Installer Code cannot be changed using the Master Code. And after exiting programming, a user should always choose "Yes" when if asked if they want to allow the Installer to re-enter programming. If they choose "No", then a user will become locked out of programming. In that situation, they would have to use the backdoor method to get back in.
