The Real Tomb of JESUS

✝️ The traditional location of Jesus' tomb is believed to be at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem's Old City, which dates back to the fourth century. This belief stems from Emperor Constantine's order for his representatives to find Jesus' tomb upon their arrival in Jerusalem in 325 A.D. They found a tomb made from a limestone cave, including a shelf or burial bed, which matched the description of Jesus' tomb in the Bible. However, it is impossible to say for sure that Jesus Christ was buried there due to the persecution of early Christians and the discovery of other likely tombs, such as the Talpiot Tomb and the Garden Tomb.

✝️ The Talpiot Family Tomb, located about 5km south of the Old City of Jerusalem, is one of the best examples of a first-century rolling stone tomb in all of Israel. It is believed to be similar to the one in which Jesus was buried, as the gospels record that the tomb in which Jesus was buried had a rolling stone.

✝️ The Garden Tomb, located in Jerusalem, is considered by some Protestants to be the empty tomb where Jesus of Nazareth resurrected. This belief contrasts with an older tradition according to which the death and resurrection of Jesus occurred at a site known as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Garden Tomb is adjacent to a rocky knoll known as Skull Hill, which some Christian scholars proposed to be Golgotha, where the Romans crucified Jesus.

✝️ The rock-cut tomb was unearthed in 1867, but archaeologists argue that it was likely created in the 8th-7th centuries BCE or the Hellenistic era, the 4th-2nd centuries BCE. The re-use of old tombs was not an uncommon practice in ancient times, but this would seem to contradict the biblical text that speaks of a new, not reused, tomb made for himself by Joseph of Arimathea.

✝️ The Garden Tomb is administered by the Garden Tomb Association, a member of the Evangelical Alliance of Israel and the World Evangelical Alliance. The association refrains from claiming that the Garden Tomb is the authentic tomb of Jesus, and instead emphasizes the site's utility as a visual aid because of certain similarities to the biblical descriptions of the tomb.
